Michael Fassbender brings out his dirty cowboy for ‘Slow West’: hot or meh?

slow west2

I’ve been missing Michael Fassbender a lot lately. Not just Fassy gossip, although that would nice and, I’m sorry, but Alicia Vikander isn’t doing it for me. But I’m been missing him on-screen too. Did anyone go and see Frank last fall? It was such a small movie and it was barely in a handful of theaters. I saw X-Men: Days of Future Past, but it didn’t even feel like that was Fassy’s movie (like X-Men: First Class) as much as Hugh Jackman’s movie or even Jennifer Lawrence’s movie.

So, yes, it feels like we’ve been going through a Fassy drought. But maybe this year will be better. He’s got Macbeth, The Light Between Oceans, that Terrence Malick movie (which might even be released this year, you never know), possibly the Steve Jobs movie, and then this long-gestating project, Slow West. Fassy produced Slow West and he stars as some kind of Wild West outlaw with a heart of gold (or something). Here’s the brand new trailer:

It looks like what the Coen Brothers attempted with their remake of True Grit. Sort of sassy and darkly humorous, but with people actually getting killed. And yes, that’s RORY MCCANN. Also known as The Hound from Game of Thrones. He’s one of my favorite actors on GoT. The young kid – the actual lead of the film, it seems – is Kodi Smit-McPhee, an Aussie-American actor. He’s only 18! He’s adorable.

So, would you watch this? I ended up enjoying the Coen Brothers’ True Grit, so I would probably watch this. Plus, it’s Fassy. I need a dose of Fassy every now and then.

Any chance of a hot-man Friday again soon?I feel as though there’s been a lack of my faves recently, where are Tom Hardy and Askars? But thanks for this, it helped.

Oh, he is in The Light Between Oceans? A friend of mine just finished the book. She said the writing is beautiful and it started out great, but ended up a pretty terrible book. I think the female lead is especially frustrating, and the male lead has no backbone and goes against his better judgment to please his wife. I told her they were making a movie of it, and she didn’t think a good film from the book could be pulled off.

I also red the book and your friend is right. The only sympathetic character is Grace’s mother who is played by Weisz

I cannot understand anything anyone is saying in this trailer. Am I deaf, or is the sound as bad as I think it is?

    My vote? Definitely HOT.

  15. Lola says:

Grew up with Spaghetti Westerns, (took me ’till I was 16 to figure out that everyone was talking in different languages and they were being dubbed into English), so I will probably watch it.
PS. Is it just me, or the pictures that came out when Fassbender was or was not dating the Olympic athlete (forgot her name) he kind of looked like Clint Eastwood?

I’ve been having major Fassie withdrawals to ever since ‘Shame’ but didn’t actually realize it until I picked up and (finally) watched ‘The Counselor’ last week.

Oh my God was that movie GOOD and um, let’s just say that it was the opening bedroom seen between Michael and Penelope Cruz that brought me back to the fandom!! (“My goodness. How did you get yourself into such a state?”) Amirite ladies? Love.Him.

  17. P.J. says:

P.S. On the topic of new Westerns, I also picked up ‘The Homesman’ with Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones recently after reading nothing but rave reviews and it is absolutely FANTASTIC. Dark, and I didn’t particularly care for the (brief) portrayal of Native Americans as “savages” (ugh) but otherwise the movie itself is a treasure. (Hailey Steinfeld from ‘True Grit’ also makes an appearance in it towards the end.) I highly recommend it.

  18. Grace says:

Fassy reminds me of one of those handsome actors from the 1950s trying to revive his career in the 1960s -70s by doing westerns.

  19. Camille (The Original) says:

Hot as always and I’ll definitely be watching this.

  20. juls says:

Hot. Without doubt. Slow West won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance ,I’ll see it. I like how he’s managing his career, still doing indies (with his money too) and choosing different roles.

  21. sweetface says:

    Its Micheal. I’m in.

  22. Col says:

What makes Kodi Smit-McPhee “an Aussie-American actor”? He is an Australian actor, from a family of Australian actors. Also worth mentioning Ben Mendelsohn, another great Australian actor, has a major role.
