Lindsay Lohan took 74 year old director Garry Marshall out on the town

Lindsay Lohan

Garry Marshall, famed director of Pretty Woman, The Runaway Bride, Beaches, and about a billion other films and TV shows, seems to have finally made his peace with Lindsay Lohan, who he directed in Georgia Rule. That was at the height of Lindsay’s first round of chaos, when the CEO of Morgan Creek had to send an embarrassingly chastising letter to Lohan, her mom, and her publicist due to her excessive partying. She held up production of Georgia Rule for several days because she was too hung over to show.

But relations between Lindsay Lohan and Garry Marshall seem to be copacetic now. He told Pop Tarts that Lindsay took him out on the town in L.A. – after dressing him up appropriately. At his behest, no less.

“She and I always got along terrific and she goes out at night, so when we were working I said, ‘I keep hearing, reading in the paper you’re out there,’ and I said, ‘can I come with you?’ And she said, ‘yes but not dressed like that, you don’t dress for my crowd.’ So she went and she bought me a shirt, she bought me a hat and took me on the town and we went to all the places, mostly what they talk about is boys (oh, really??) and we had a nice evening,” Marshall told Tarts at last week’s premiere of Race to Witch Mountain.

“We were at some nice hippy dippy restaurant, Koi or something, and I said, ‘how am I doing Lizzy, am I happening?’ And she said, ‘almost,’ she said, ‘you have Velcro shoes, we don’t wear Velcro, just put your feet under the table and you’ll be happening more.'”

Velcro shoes can get in the way of an otherwise happening outfit. Pop Tarts asked Marshall what he thought about reports that Lohan is off the wagon again. He was very kind, though I think he did make a (deserving) dig at her family.

“I wish her well and I hope she find whatever she’s trying to find, which is a life with a center, because she’s really truly is a sensational actress. That’s what she really does well,” he added. “I think that part of it is you want to have a solid family, and that’s very important, that’s why I do family movies.”

[From Fox News’ Pop Tarts]

It sounds like Marshall is implying Lohan doesn’t have a solid family, which is true. Or even a sane family. I’m sure he had to deal with Dina Lohan a lot during the filming of “Georgia Rule,” so he probably has an unfavorable opinion of her. At the time all she did was make ridiculous excuses to the press for Lindsay’s bad behavior. And all that enabling did was get Lindsay into rehab three times.

I find this story incredibly bizarre, and if it were coming from anyone less reputable than Garry Marshall I’d assume it was bull. But as odd as it is, it must be true. He has a way of putting a nice, congenial spin on things. He also doesn’t note when this happened, but I’m going to assume it was well after the movie wrapped. Maybe if Lohan focused on her career and spent a little more time with men who wear Velcro and a little less swigging straight from the bottle, things would turn around for her.

I like him. I think it’s cute that he’s all “Am I happening?”

And I think it’s nice of her to just go with it.

  2. Baho says:

I’d love to hit the town with Penny Marshall, she’s a riot!

I know I wouldn’t understand a thing she was saying to me, that’s why it would be such a gas to hang with her. After a couple of glasses of wine she wouldn’t understand me either so we’ be perfectly sympatico. We’d NEVER get a cab…

Wow, how painful was it for Jay Bird to recycle a piece on Lindsay Lohan that was impossible to put a negative spin on?

  7. cheekemunkey says:

For someone who has had a DUI, been in rehab 3 times, and is in a court-ordered safe driving program, she sure spends an awful lot of time in clubs.

This sounds like a really old story rehashed by her publicist to put her in a positive light in the papers for something other than an outstanding arrest warrent, latest public fight with Sam or looking like a skeleton / coke head on the red carpet.

Looking at photos of her, I still find it hard to believe she’s only 22. I can’t imagine how wrecked she’ll be in 20 years, provided she lives that long

Seriously, old dudes out clubbing rocks my socks. Some of my best clubbing nights have been with the parents and grandparents of my friends.
Hmm…although I’ve only seen ‘LiLo’ in “The Parent Trap” during middle school rainy-day gym classes, my mother thinks she’s a terrific actress and wishes she’d get her sh*t together. My mom is closer to Garry Marshall’s age than my own, so maybe Lindsay’s fan base is actually pre-Boomers and she hasn’t realized it. She ought to try to market to ’em!

  17. Baho says:

Lem, yeah except I spelled it like my internet provider…LOL! Force of habit.
