Star: Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield hit a ‘rough patch’ & they’re on a ‘break’

wenn21323001

There’s a rumor going around Star Magazine that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are over. Dun dun dun. Even though I have mixed feelings on Garfield in general – he’s given some weird interviews – I really, really liked them as a couple. They got together nearly four years ago when they met while filming The Amazing Spider-Man. I’m pretty sure they live together too – Emma has an apartment in NYC and I think Andrew lives there with her. Anyway, Star Magazine says that Emma and Andrew are “taking a break” because of competing work schedules and never seeing each other.

Oh no! Hollywood’s most adorable couple, Emma and Andrew, are no longer together, according to a new report. Find out what happened to the pair who have been together for over 3 years! Don’t worry, Emma Stone, 26, and Andrew Garfield, 31, are not over for good, but they are taking some time apart to figure things out, according to the sad new report. The long distance nature of their relationship has really taken its toll on the stars.

“It’s clear they’ve drifted apart. It’s an unspoken issue, but everybody knows they are on hold,” an Insider shared with Star magazine.

The couple has been going through a “rough patch” and being thousands of miles apart hasn’t helped. Andrew has been shooting a film in Taiwan and will soon be filming in Australia.

Nobody suspected anything was wrong with their relationship until Andrew was a no-show at the Oscars and The Golden Globes, where his girlfriend was nominated.

“Yes, Andrew was filming but he could have gotten away if he really wanted to. The fact was, neither one of them wanted to plaster on a smile and pretend everything was OK when it wasn’t,” the source explained.

“They are taking some time apart to figure things out. They need to know if what they once had is worth saving. They aren’t ready to call it quits just yet,” the insider insisted.

[From Hollywood Life]

Does this make you sad? I’m sort of sad, but I also feel like… yeah, maybe they need some space from each other. They were such a cute couple but I sometimes worried that Andrew wasn’t as supportive as he should be of Emma’s career. But hey, maybe this is just a temporary break and they’ll be back together by the end of the year. You never know.

Here’s hoping Emma finally realized that she’s too good for him and yes, I’m an unapologetic Garfield-hater. Come at me.

    • Kiddo says:

I wrote my comment before yours posted, see below.

    • Dońt kill me i'm french says:

What did he? He’s super nice with the fans and he’s not famewhore

      • Kitten says:

I just dislike him as an actor, and his appearance annoys the hell out of me.
Sorry if you were looking for a better answer but, gossip right?

      • Kiddo says:

I am the same. You can call it irrational dislike, or a chemistry/intuitive/gut reaction to him, but NO LIKEY.

      • Kitten says:

Having a punchable face isn’t a rational reason for dislike?
        Boo.

      • Kiddo says:

@kitten, That’s my instinctual drive toward Mark Wahlberg, although he has a personality that matches his punchable face.

      • Kitten says:

        Agree about Marky Mark.

Also, I’m waiting for someone to say “would you say that about a woman?” because that’s the new thing around here.

      • Kiddo says:

I kind of used to want to punch Nicole Kidman in the face. I am a horrible person. Not so much now, I just feel sorry for her. But she had a sort of snoot-look (maybe her nose, or something) that was so completely off-putting, it ruffled my feathers, even tho I knew she was a decent actress and objectively attractive.

      • manta says:

I’ve absolutely no idea if he’s nice to fans, don’t care for comics on screen so can’t tell anything about Spiderman, but liked him in The Social Network.

He also made me live one of the most heartbreaking scenes in recent years in Never let me go. For that only I can’t hate the guy. Funnily enough, the effect he seems to have on posters here is the one Emma Stone has on me (couldn’t stand her in The Help or Gangster squad)

      • Kitten says:

        Kiddo-Nooooo! Don’t punch Nicole. She’s a great actress, even if she’s annoying-looking.

@Manta-Emma SUCKED in Gangster Squad. So did Ryan Gosling, and I like both of them as actors, but they were both atrocious.

She was ok in The Help but I hated that movie with a passion.

        I hate everything, apparently.
I need Mark to straighten me out and teach me right from wrong….

      • holly hobby says:

Shailene Woodley has a punchable face and a annoying personality. I’ve said that about her here and someone lectured me. I hope they can see how annoying she is now!

    • EC says:

I just always thought they made each other happy so this gives me the sads. But….relationships in your 20s (her) and early 30s (him) often don’t work out. However IF they are broken up, I want her with Jake G. Too soon for that speculation? I don’t care.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

I feel “meh” on him either way but agree she can do better.

    • mark says:

      @TOK

You wouldn’t say that to a woman though yesterday everybody was talking about gross Trevor Noah is because he made a joke punching a woman, so it is the same and you are a hypocrite.

This whole site is you want to be equal but you never blame female for the break up of a relationship.

      • Kitten says:

Thank you, Mark, and how did I know that you would be the one to fulfill my wish?

You’re always there for me when I need you ♥

    • perplexed says:

I don’t really have an opinion on him, but I think she’s better looking than he is.

    • Lauren says:

Lol I have that same sort of irrational hatred for the likes of Selena Gomez. I mean I can sort of explain my hate but at the same time I just know that no matter what Selena does I do not like that girl. So I get you with the Garfield hate haha

    • The Original Mia says:

I have plenty of room on my settee. Join me, please!

    • Outstandingworldcitizen says:

I liked him in Boy A and even in his SNL Bey Agency skit but his comments on sewing as women’s was over the top. Emma called him on it though.

  2. Tiffany27 says:

For some reason I really don’t care for him.

  3. Kiddo says:

I will speak for myself AND KITTEN, when I say “YAY!”.

  4. Farah says:

She really changed with him. She got scary skinny and her humor seemed forced, when it used to be so natural. I’ve disliked him since he acted like such a brat during all of the spiderman 2 promo. Emma was such a trooper, and he shaded the movie throughout.

    • Dońt kill me i'm french says:

She changed with the success.Look …all the it girls lose weight when they become successful ( just to wear the haute- couture outfits)

      • EC says:

Yep, same with JLaw and other more C list-y ladies who wish they were on the level of Emma and Jennifer. Not saying they are unhealthy, just slimmer.

    • qwerty says:

Pretty much every single actress gets skinnier once she hits it big.

    • AD says:

Eh in Jennifer and Emma’s case they also were young when they hit it big. In Jen’s case she went from being baby faced in Winter’s Bone to filming two action movie franchises that require her to do training. Emma is definitely different from Superbad to now…I don’t think that’s necessarily Hollywood. I lot the rest of my baby face from high school to college personally.

      • Renee says:

Emma was like 17 years old when she filmed Superbad, it’s been almost 10 years, of course she’s not going to look the same.

      • meh says:

Teenager girls don’t have “baby fat” they lose it once they start menstruating. If anything you naturally fill out in the hips in your early twenties.

    • Renee says:

A brat during Spider-man2 promo? What promo tour were you watching. And he never “shaded the movie throughout”. Months later, while promoting his other film In September at TIFF one reporter asked him a direct question about the underperformance of TASM2 and he gave an honest, thoughtful answer which got blown out of proportion b/c ppl don’t read original interviews from the source anymore and just read clickbait headlines…which is what I’m sure you did.

    • EN says:

It is not him that changed her, she did it to herself. Now she thinks she is too god for him. Whatever. It is her life.

  5. Diane says:

JMHO but classic case of she’s a bigger star and he can’t handle it.

  6. Dońt kill me i'm french says:

Since Garfield is not Spider-Man anymore,I guess their RP stu..oops their love story is over …yes,I’m nasty

  7. qwerty says:

It’s the pube-beard that did them in, I’m sure.

  8. Anna says:

Why is this article full of links to spam?

  9. Alex says:

I don’t like him but Emma definitely calls him out when necessary. I’m not quite sure when all this competing schedules thing happened because she just finished a stint on Broadway and Andrew was always there. I saw him the night I went to see the show. So who knows. What I do know is that Star is one of the lowest tabs out there so I’ll wait for a bigger mag like People before believing this. If its true that sucks because they are cute together.

    • Renee says:

Star Mag is a piece of trash. Weren’t they the ones who wrote a couple of weeks ago that Emma was sending him photos & videos from the Oscars all night? This whole competing schedules thing is ridiculous, he finishes the Scorsese film in Taiwan in a few more weeks and her schedule is clear for the rest of the year, she has no movies lined up (just a couple movie junkets promotions) They live together in NYC so it’s not like they don’t see each other.

  10. Angel L says:

I don’t have an opion on their breakup. I am just here to say, in that first picture, she looks terrible in the dress. That is not her color. Her make up is awful too – it is like they were trying to compensate for the dress color.
I do like her though, normally she is too cute.

    • Allie says:

Haha I was just coming to say that I love that dress! I think she looks so cute in it. I do agree her make up looks awful, but I love the dress and hair. It’s nice to see that some redheads can wear pink, as I’ve tried and it looks awful on me!

      • Angel L says:

I actually like the dress too. and I think it fits her well. I just don’t like that shade of pink (the top part) on her – too blue maybe).

    • jammypants says:

I actually love the whole look.

  11. Robert says:

This dude is a pretentious tw*t. Always comes across very smug, despite his limited acting talent.

    Garfield-hater checking in.

    • Diana B says:

My thoughts aswell. He seems really entitled to me. Like he thinks he is such a great talent, he doesn’t understand how Hollywood hasn’t bowed down to him.

  12. Caitlin Bruce says:

Actually Andrew is totally supportive of Emma’s Career he was at her Broadway show numerous times he went to Hawaii while she was filming in Hawaii, while promoting TASM2 he would light up talking about working with her. He is filming an incredibly tense film in Taiwan and he is the sort of actor who would carry that around with him hence why he never showed to the oscars. You actually posted an article about BHS at the Oscars and Emma was supposedly sending videos to Andrew all night.

    • Kara says:

i guess for some its just easier to blame it on the man. people here pretend to be so progressive but have no qualms determining guilt based on gender. maybe Emma lost respect for him because she outshone him.

    • Renee says:

I also don’t get why the writer stated that Andrew wasn’t supportive. He’s always gushing about her non stop and has always been super supportive of everything she does… Like you said he went to Hawaii for “Aloha” with her, he went to France with her when she was filming “Magic in The Moonlight” and also went went her to Rhode Island while she filmed her most recent movie. He was there for her opening night at Cabaret and even flew his family in from England to see her on opening night. He went to the show so many times, bringing all his friends to see her…you could tell how proud he was of her.

    • Alex says:

I said the same thing. He was with her pretty much her entire Cabaret stint. So I’m not sure where this comes from. I think its BS personally

  13. Tig says:

I just loved Emma in House Bunny and Easy A, and for that matter, Super Bad. She was so cute, and sadly, prob weighed a good 15 lbs more then than now. Comparing her then to how she looked in Birdman and Magic in Moonlight was a bit sad. I can see being that thin worked with the character in Birdman, but in Magic, it only made more glaring the age discrepancy bet her and Firth.

Back to her and AG- I think it’s the biggest kicker in these relationships- competitive rivalry. He’s the dumped Spidey, and she’s about the most wanted actress under 30 going- hope it’s not the case.

  14. Talie says:

Probably a little professional jealousy too… her career hit new heights last year and he has been stagnated a bit. Of course, he’s talented, so he will rise again. But you know how it goes…

    • Renee says:

Emma lucked out with Birdman but now she has a couple of stinkers coming up. Aloha (judging from the Sony hacked emails) is a pile of garbage. And her new Woody Allen movie doesn’t sound very good. And Woody is more miss than hit lately. Andrew on the other hand, is the lead in the new Martin Scorsese film “Silence” & he also the lead in the new Mel Gibson directed film “Hacksaw Ridge”. Say what you want about Mel, but the man is a helluva director. So yeah, Andrew’s career isn’t looking too shabby…

      • Talie says:

I know but an Oscar nomination is pretty much the tops. It’s what they all want.

  15. Ally.M says:

I saw a photo of them not too long ago looking their usual loved-up selves, not sure about this story.

Please someone explain all the Garfield hate. I love them both and they’re one of my favourite showbiz couples. I remember seeing Andrew dancing on Ellen a few years back, he was adorable. I find a few of the British actors pretentious but Andrew is definitely not one of them.

    • OhDear says:

Yeah, I don’t think the story is true and don’t get the hate against him either.

(I also don’t quite get the love for her, though my objections to her are mostly because she worked with Woody Allen *twice* after his daughter spoke out about the child abuse allegations.)

    • EN says:

I actually dislike Emma, not Garfield. She seems to have harsh personality. And he doesn’t seem to be equipped to deal with it.
I think they are not well suited.

  16. gilmore says:

Is the hate because of the feminine comment he made? I honestly think that was misconstrued and he easily checked himself quick when Emma pointed it out. I would think that’s a good thing, learning asap that you effed up and think harder next time. Anyway, he talks about her being able to do anything gig wise and that he’s proud of her all the time. I’m not necessarily sure how accurate that scenario is, I’m pretty sure he was cheering for at cabaret too from what I remember on dm.

    • Sadie says:

Yeah that comment got blown way out of proportion. I do think people should call out gender essentialism, as Emma did in that interview, but for the most part I thought what he said was so innocuous. I think he’s talented (although a lot of his better work is pre-Spiderman) and when he was doing Death of a Salesman in NY I met him a few times. He seemed like a decent guy.

  17. Susiecue says:

I’ve never really liked them together because they always seemed kinda smug together. Separately, no problem with either of them, but they are just sickly-sweet and those paparazzi signs they made I just found eye-rolley.

  18. oneshot says:

Not a fan of either of them but I still think this is bs since several people here have mentioned that he was with her through Cabaret and that they were in contact throughout Oscar night, awards season etc.

Yes he’s a pretentious hipster and she’s too skinny but they’re both decent at the acting so I can’t hate.

    • Tiffany says:

I am with you, oneshot. I think that Stone is all smoke and mirrors with a great PR team that she listens to. I seen some interviews with her recently that made me think she was as fake as a 7 dollar bill. If Andrew is so entitled and smug and Emma is so cool and can do better, than why have they lasted for 4 years. There would have to be some conflict and I believe that they are one in the same and it is not good.

  19. BetseyLu says:

Omg! She can do SO much better!!! Come on!
He seems like a cranky little biatch half the time
    Go Emma!!!!

  20. TotallyBiased says:

Jumped completely off the Garfield Hate Train after seeing Never Let Me Go on tv by accident. Cried for hours. It also greatly rejuvenated my Carey Mulligan/ Keira Knightly love.

  21. EN says:

No surprise here. He lost his Spiderman gig and has no prospects, her career is shooting up, she gets nominations. They are no longer equals.

  22. santana says:

this is a common issue on HW couples and it saddens me that younger generations still have that problem: female success. It’s so hard for a couple with same field jobs to keep on supporting each other, but the male counterpart is always more unforgiven and needy than the female.
