Bethenny Frankel: ‘Sometimes I do agree that I look too thin. I weigh 115 lbs’

Bethenny Frankel & Daughter Bryn Hit The Beach In Miami
Above and below are the latest photos of Bethenny Frankel at the beach in Miami. They’re from this weekend and last week. We seem to get new photos of her in a bikini once a month, or roughly corresponding with her promotional schedule. Bethenny was a guest on The Today Show yesterday. She’s one of many celebrities promoting books out this spring, and hers is a self-help tome called I Suck at Relationships So You Don’t Have To: 10 Rules for Not Screwing Up Your Happily Ever After. A woman involved in a contentious, public divorce who has short, high profile flings with younger men has published a relationship book. Radar has some salacious details from the book, which include Bethenny’s tips for self pleasuring. It’s TMI but that’s her thing, and she’s not wrong.

In her Today Show interview, Bethenny explained that she wrote a relationship book because she “learned more from my mistakes than from my successes.” She also claimed “I can still give advice on something that I’ve made a lot of mistakes in” and added “do as I say not as I’ve done.” I guess celebrities can do just about anything regardless of whether they have a clue about it or not.

She says she has a gift for writing
I do feel that, when I’m going through something, I write. It’s kind of like it pours out of me… so now I’m going through something, if I can help people and talk about what I’m going through and express it, which I do think that I have a gift for, I think it’s great. And I really do love this book so much and all of the practical advice in it.

Claims she was offered Shark Tank, Cinderella and DWTS
People say that because of the failure of my talk show I had to come back [to RHONY]. I was offered Shark Tank and Dancing With the Stars and Cinderella, but I wanted to go home again. I really never thought I’d go back. It had gotten to a point where I didn’t enjoy it anymore. Now I’m so glad that I waited, because I’m really enjoying it. I respect the women, I respect what everyone’s going through… Some of [the women] I’ve known for so many years and it feels like I’m going back to high school.

On criticism of her weight
People do comment a lot. I do say ‘yeah, I am thin.’ I mean, I have a brand called Skinnygirl, so it’s not a big giant mystery. You can’t please everybody. You try to please everybody, you end up pleasing nobody. Sometimes I do agree that I look too thin, especially when I’m tired, especially when I’m haggard. I do eat. There are nutritionists that comment that I don’t even weigh a hundred pounds. I weigh 115 pounds. I’ll be happy to get on the Today show scale.

“People don’t talk about people that are overweight”
People don’t talk about people that are overweight. If someone thought you were overweight imagine being like ‘wow, that person looks really overweight’ and keep talking about it, that wouldn’t be nice. But that’s not something I’m going to complain about.

[From The Today Show via US Weekly]

People do talk about celebrities who are overweight. Look at the idiots who are bashing Kelly Clarkson after she had a baby. As far as Bethenny’s weight, she is 5’7″ tall, so at 115 pounds her Body Mass Index is 18, which is under the 18.5 cutoff for being in the normal weight range. She is technically underweight. I know that the BMI guidelines are inadequate for measuring lean body mass, etc, but if anything they err on the side of labeling very fit, muscular people overweight. As for Bethenny’s argument that she runs a company called “Skinny Girl,” she’s used that one before. Plus she’s written a diet book, she constantly stages bikini photo ops, she’s posed in her daughter’s clothing on social media, and she’s compared herself to a skeleton. She wants the validation that comes with people calling her skinny.

Oh and I watch Shark Tank. I doubt Bethenny has the business skill or the capital to be on the investors panel.

  1. Abbott says:

Even LeAnn Rimes is like ‘Cool it on the bikini pics, B.’

  2. Santia says:

She’s thin, but she doesn’t look emaciated to me. To each her own.

    • jwoolman says:

That’s my feeling, too. She looks healthy so 115 lbs might be the right weight for her frame or at least within her healthy range. The BMI is not really meant to be used the way folks tend to use it today and often is less than useful for individuals. My normal weight throughout my 20s and 30s would put me just barely in the normal range for BMI, and yet I was never even close to thin.

      • qwerty says:

I agree, she look healthy. Don;t know much about her but in these pics she looks great.

      • Gea says:

Yes, she looks great in all picts but she should work far more on her attitude towards life and people around her.

      • Boopybette says:

She reminds me of jennifer aniston and chelsea handler…homely women who know their faces are jacked and so can’t stop dropping trou. Lol

    • Kitten says:

I cannot stand this woman but she looks very fit to me. She looks like someone who does a lot of strength-training and watches what she eats.
      Meh.

    • Esmom says:

I agree, she looks healthy and fit looking. And who knows if she’s telling the truth about how much she actually weighs.

    • bettyrose says:

Agreed. At one point she looked gristly and gross but she looks fine now. I don’t but 5’7″ though. Maybe 5’5″ and 115 is fine. But I think she had cosmetic work on her belly.

      • FLORC says:

        bettyrose
No way is she even 115 at 5’5″. I’m 114ish at 5’5″ish. And I look far healthier than her. Plus her muscle mass (which we know is dense and weighs more than fat) looks minimum for someone lifting a kid and doing cardio/yoga.

      • Thinker says:

        She’s not 5’7″ – I’d put her in the 5’4 – 5’5 range

      • bettyrose says:

FLORC, you could be right but she looks healthy to me here. But I’d believe she added 2-3 inches to her height and 5-10 pounds to her weight in this description.

      • perplexed says:

I thought she was 5’2″. She look short in pictures, although pictures I’m sure can be deceiving. I have no real opinion on her thinness – she looks muscular, so I assume she weight-trains.

      • FLORC says:

        Thinker/perplexed
Her stats on google say she’s 5’7″. So, who knows unless we catch her exiting a bank or gas station.

  3. runCMC says:

She actually looks really strong and fit in these bikini pics. Maybe she’s gotten healthier.

    *shrug*

  4. jen2 says:

The women’s weight police need to take a vacation. It’s either lay off the pizza or eat a sandwich. The obsession with how much women (but not men) weigh is getting old.

    • Ameoba says:

      +1

    • Bridget says:

I don’t hugely care how much Bethenny weighs, but I’m guessing that a lot of the conversations about her weight are driven by her. A big example is that photo of her in her 4 year old’s jammies.

      • FLORC says:

She makes it the topic to discuss with her. I agree with Jen2 overall, but BF actively tries to engage us into discussing her body image and weight.

  5. Miss W says:

She really doesn’t look skeletal to me. She’s lean and toned. I’ve seen her look way thinner. I think she looks really good here.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Me, too. I think she has put on a few (needed) pounds. Her arms used to be much thinner. She looks good. I’ll trade.

  6. David says:

    She looks strong and fit.

  7. Belle Epoch says:

A GIFT FOR WRITING? She did not write that book. Rrrrrrrr

  8. Jen43 says:

I cringe that her brand name is skinny girl. She has made a lot of money, so good for her? She is no expert on relationships, though, and capitalizing on that fact is ridiculous.

    • Kitten says:

I refuse to buy any food product with the word “skinny” in it.

    • Jane says says:

I never got the Skinny Girl thing either? Do you buy ir because you are skinny and part of a ‘club’ and if you’re chubby you can’t buy it? I am chubby, I am trying to lose weight, the Skinny Girl thing felt kind of exclusionary, but maybe that was the point? I don’t really know the product, is it some other idea?

      • Dani says:

I never personally bought it but have a friend who does and I’ve had it by her. It’s mostly alcohol. Like the mixed margaritas are supposed to be flavored but its 98% alcohol 2% juice which is I guess why she calls it ‘skinny’. It’s not awful, and the wine selection is actually pretty decent but the name just rubs me wrong.

  9. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I think she looks fine/good here, but what gets me is that it seems like her weight is her “thing”. Like no one who isn’t proud of the fact that she’s tiny/really thin would pose for a pic in her preschooler’s clothes and post it on the internet.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, I think anyone who names their brand “Skinny girl” clearly has a fixation on weight. I think what’s maybe sadder is the people who buy her crappy drinks because of their own fixations.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I just have visions of her weighing herself every morning, and whenever she goes even a few pounds over her ideal weight, that means she’s gotta hit the gym for another two hours….

  10. Tracy says:

    Big yawn. Let’s move on.

  11. Isa says:

She looks fine to me. She is skinny but she has muscle and doesn’t look like she’s wasting away. Of course she could still be unhealthy but so could anyone.
I think her problem is her face. She’s got what looks to be naturally deep set eyes. I’ve heard it said that you have to chose your body or face as you age. Sounds like that’s what’s happening here

  12. snowflake says:

she actually looks fit to me. she’s thin but you can see she’s toned and has muscle.

  13. candice says:

I think her implants disguise how thin she really is. If she didn’t have the implants, it would be obvious.

    • Anony says:

Can I just say how much I hate implants? It used to be skinny girls had being thin, bigger girls got to have boobs….now the expectation is to be rail thin but with boobs somehow. Aka a body mainly only achievable through surgery with the previous body types no longer deemed desirable.

      • candice says:

For most, that is the case — they don’t have the boobs and the skinny body naturally. Taking a look at Hollywood, I could come up with a list as long as my arm on who has had a little help in the boob department while maintaining their super thin physique. Tara Reid and Tori Spelling would not be on this list as their work is not just obvious but clear examples of plastic surgery gone wrong.

  14. Greek Chic says:

I must admit that I like her body here.
Does she have implants? I am a little taller than her and if I weight 115 pounds I would be completely flat.

  15. iseepinkelefants says:

I’m not going to shame her. since moving to France I now weight 50 kilos (I’m 5’6), not because I want to weight that much, it just happened. I eat food including a brownie (my comfort food) and two pain at chocolate a day, nothing makes me fatter. I hate it because I miss my American “curves” (especially my tits) but what can I do? I refuse to bash someone for being skinny, there are so many factors that might go into why that is, especially considering she looks normal. She does not look like she has an eating disorder.

  16. angel says:

she looks best in a one piece bathing suit.

  17. Astrid says:

I doubt she weighs 115 at 5’7″ She looks fine and probably weighs more then she claims. For a women in her 40’s, she looks great. She just needs to find something else to promote besides her “weight”.

  18. Bridget says:

    Someone’s got new PR.

  19. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t think people should be shamed for being too fat or too thin, and several of you on here have convinced me that thin-shaming is as unacceptable as fat shaming. But what is this thing where very thin women complain that “nobody says anything if you’re fat?” On what planet? Fat people suffer rude, hostile, unkind comments every day of their lives, at least in this country. That blindness to any problem but your own irks me.

    • klein says:

      Exceptionally good point.

Ultimately, all body shaming must stop. The fact is, you can never really tell when someone is excessively over or under weight because of illness. I knew two women who suffered speculation about their weight in different ways; one was extremely thin, the other suddenly gained a lot in a short space of time and it turned out they both had very different kinds of cancer and their weight was the result of both the disease and the treatment. So I do believe it’s just not our business what someone looks like.

That said, this woman looks as though she’s a horrible person. She has never behaved in a way that makes me suspect she’s nice at all.

    • Lisa says:

Exactly, EVERYONE says something if you’re fat. Just because the US (and Canada, we’re not exempt!) has a wealth of overweight people, it doesn’t mean that it’s accepted. Just look at the comments about Kelly Clarkson, or any ad that promises you’ll lose 5 lbs in 1 day if you just do this one weird trick.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

No one in my family complains that I’m too skinny, but I put twenty pounds on and suddenly everybody had a comment for me. Because what matters in life is whether or not your family thinks you’re embarrassingly fat.

  20. Bethany looks average weight, as she gets older, her metabolism will slow down, and she will get fatter. Her face is also very average, let’s not overrate her.

  21. lemon says:

Weight looks a little different on everybody. I’m 5’7″ and range 113-117. I carry fat in the stomach area so if I weigh 120 I look a little pregnant. At 125 I’ve been asked if I’m expecting. If you have a fat stomach you’re “fat” at any weight. If I put weight on in the butt and thighs I could wear the same size pants at 130 and look healthy. So, who knows why she arrived at the weight she is.

I don’t care what she or other women weigh or how they take care of their bodies, it’s between them and their doctors. I don’t know if her comments on her appearance are frustration or narcissism but it’s been my experience that the best thing is to not address it at all.

  22. Trillion says:

Nice technique -complaining about something and then tacking on “but I won’t complain about that”.

  23. Mrs. Darcy says:

I really like her taste in swimwear. 115 hmm…I mean the lowest I ever weighed was 113, and I was not healthy with it, and I still don’t think I looked as thin as she does. But she has bigger boobs than me and she doesn’t look as scary skinny as she used to. Her tummy shows like no evidence of childbirth whatsoever, how does that work?!

  24. PrincessMe says:

I like her black swimsuit. It’s really cute.

  25. Lisa says:

I don’t think she looks unhealthy, but I have to question her motives for naming her brand Skinnygirl.

  26. shizwhat says:

She looks super fit, not at all emaciated or tired or haggard. She looks right at the point where if she lost weight or muscle she might start looking poorly though. But Im giving her this one, she looks amazing.

  27. Samtha says:

For a while, she looked unhealthily thin, but she looks okay in these pics.

  28. YummyMummy says:

    Cinderella??!!? What??? A stepsister???

  29. Black Jack kitty says:

Weight is such a personal thing for me. I’m 5’4″ & weigh 107 lbs. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told to “eat a cheeseburger!” Or that I just SMELL my food and don’t eat it. Sheesh. I’ve struggles with restricting for many years and have been hospitalized several times for it. I’m in a good place now so those comments don’t really bother me anymore, but a few years ago they would have sent me spiraling out of control again. People really need to be careful what they say sometimes. Especially when it comes to weight. You never know what someone is dealing with.

  30. LaurenLauren says:

I’m 5’6 and I weigh 115 lbs. I have never dieted in my life and I eat a healthy vegetarian diet which includes every carb, protein and fat there is, except for meat from animals. I do not work out or try to maintain any weight, I just ride my bike to work. If anyone were to say I am unhealthy based upon my BMI, they are out of their minds. And no, this weight and height do not mean you have a very low body fat % or no boobs/ass, I have both. I do not have wide shoulders, waist and hips, so I do not look skinny.
