Blake Lively in Monique Lhuillier at ‘Adeline’ premiere: showgirl-chic or fug?

wenn22404233

Blake Lively finally got her big premiere for The Age of Adeline. She’s been shilling this movie for weeks (if not months). And I really don’t think it’s going to do well or launch Blake into super-stardom, but maybe someone out there will buy it. But the point is that Blake got to put on the biggest, frilliest, most look-at-me dress she could find and shockingly, the dress was not Marchesa. This is Monique Lhuillier, the designer famous for making gowns look like lingerie.

Thoughts? I don’t mind the red and I don’t hate the cut from the waist up. But I hate pretty much everything else about this dress. I hate the frills, the feathers and the design of the bodice. Ugh, she looks like a modest showgirl! And I guess that’s Blake deal – she likes a showgirl look. I’ll give her some credit – the fit is really great and if I didn’t know better, I would say it doesn’t even look like she gave birth just a few months ago. As for her sweet baby James, E! News says Ryan Reynolds stayed home last night to watch the baby.

And in case you’re wondering about the hot piece posing with Blake, that’s Dutch actor Michiel Huisman. You might know him as the second Daario in Game of Thrones. He replaced the first Daario, who looked like Fabio if Fabio was a serial killer. I actually prefer Huisman on GoT, although I’m worried about his career long-term if he’s the third-tier love interest in a Blake Lively movie. Still, hot man is hot.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Yes!!!!!!!!! Miss Kitty at The Long Branch Saloon!

    • Snazzy says:

      ha ha ha ha ha

    • Babyswans says:

I know…BUT I totally want to wear it…what’s wrong with me?! I blame that can can western show my parents use to take us to at the Diamond Horseshoe at Disney World.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Haha. I used to want to be a showgirl when I was about five and saw a movie about the Ziegfeld follies. My mother was like “no.” But I thought slowly descending the stairs with arms outstretched and a two foot hat on looked so glamorous. Luckily, I have revised my style somewhat since.

    • boredblond says:

Hehe..didn’t miss kitty wear her feathers on her head? It’s a bit much..

    • Nikki says:

Gnat, I also thought “Miss Kitty!” before I read the first comment! 🙂

  2. Audrey says:

    That’s a little much.

  3. Jan Harf says:

Huisman Is fine as all get out. Love him.

    • Bridget says:

He really is – and he’s charismatic enough to almost have chemistry with Blake.

      • polonoscopy says:

Huisman is above a Blake Lively movie. Not only is he on Game of Thrones, but he played a big role in Treme and is now on Orphan Black – the OTHER breakout genre show.

      • dc4b says:

Don’t forget Nashville! He had a small role in seasons 1 & 2 of Nashville as Liam and he is dreamy as hell! Only reason I’m seeing this (likely shitshow of a) movie!

    • jammypants says:

      UNF

    • EC says:

you bet he is. I wouldn’t kick him out of bed. His career is on the up and up too. He has done SO MUCH tv work (esp in the UK, he’s Dutch) so I guess now he might be jumping into movies.

      • Boxy Lady says:

Have you ever seen Young Victoria? He has a smaller part playing Prince Albert’s brother Ernest. Prince Albert was played by Rupert Friend so it was hotness overload when they had a scene together. 🙂

  4. Val Cherry says:

Looks like the movie is going to be a fun train wreck to watch! I’ve seen the trailer several times for the last 3 months at the movies and, oh boy, looks like Showgirls bad!

    • Liz says:

I’m looking forward to seeing this, if for no other reason then the costuming looks totally gorgeous.

      • Dawn says:

Yep that’s what I thought too! Great costumes and her make up looks spot on in the trailers as well!

    • kennedy says:

I honestly think Blake Lively is one of the worst actresses in her age group and yet she works with decent directors (and sometimes really good directors like Ben Affleck). She is a total marblemouth.

    • mia girl says:

I though the same, but I just check on Rotten Tomatoes and the movie sits at 83% . Only a handful of reviews so far, so I guess it could drop.

    • SW says:

I saw a snaek peak of this movie last week and it was actually really good!

      • Camille (The Original) says:

I hope it does well just to upset her detractors lol. I’ve never understood the raving dislike that she gets. It’s…odd.

  5. Lee says:

Oh boy….where do I start? Too much, as usual. Seems like she came off from Lady Marmalade video…too much red, too much feathers and the lace, it comes off as tacky and the jewelry is too much too. I see she likes the bling bling, but less is more Blake.
Glad you haven’t included pics of her after party look. That was even worse.

  6. LAK says:

    Honey, no, no, NO!!!!

  7. Jaded says:

Whoa…just spat my coffee out – she looks like a saloon floozie from a spaghetti western.

  8. Jayna says:

Way too much for the premiere of this movie. Although, I saw the trailers. The movie looks good.

  9. OSTONE says:

Time to hire that stylist, Blake. Hideous dress!

  10. embertine says:

Erm. I generally love Monique Lhuillier (maker of the malachite fabric, a.k.a. The Dress I Would Stab My Grandmother In The Kidney To Possess) but this is some Valentine’s Day lingerie, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas ruffled scarlet fug.

  11. Tracy says:

Love Blake. Amazing figure, hair, face, etc. but the dress…just too much. All those ruffles are bad on their own, but combine them with the light and too-bright red color and yeeeeech.

  12. amp122076 says:

Fug and I’m totally over that hair style on her.

  13. TeresaMaria says:

Michiel Huisman is so hot. Ever since he appeared on Treme. There is something about him that just does it to me.

  14. pk says:

I miss Michiel Huisman on Nashville 🙁

  15. Mimz says:

I actually am the minority (i.e. the ONLY one) but I actually like this dress. I think she looks great.
And I don’t like that type of skirt detailing I would never design something like that BUT I think it worked well here.
and I saw the trailer once and I actually am looking forward to watching it. I know I know people here only want to see AMAZING acting, and if you are not amazing just get out, but I happen to think she does have SOME talent. And why not use it? It’s not like we’re seeing her in blockbusters or on 300 movies a year, we actually seldom see her on the big screen (contrary to less or equally talended girls we are being shoved down our throats just because they found the right door to stardom and not Gossip Girl).

Anyway.. I like her. I want to watch this. I will support it.

  16. Greek chic says:

I’ll go with fug. I don’t like red lace in general.
For underwear sometimes is nice, but I don’t like it for dresses.
Also although I like her hair color,I think that hairstyle is aging her.

  17. lower-case deb says:

from afar it looked like Murray from Sesame Street had been sacrificed to make that skirt and she’s strangling Nemo.

surely there’s some meta thing going on with the dismantling of childhood memories vis a vis her character never dying. but i’m not a psychoanalyist or sociologist so i’m just going to say NO BLAKE, NO!

  18. Caitlin Bruce says:

I will say one thing girls skin is flawless so looks airbrushed all over.

  19. Bridget says:

Blake is a really lovely woman. I can see why she’s made so many friends and connections – she seems to possess an innate personal charisma. Stick with that, because onscreen… acting isnt really her forte.

  20. A.Key says:

    Jesus.

  21. India says:

    I love it.

  22. dulcinea says:

Michiel is a really good actor! I hope he continues to get roles, he’s perfect as Cal in Orphan Black and I had to do a double take when I saw him on GoT last week. But I’m also not sure as to why he would agree to this movie.

  23. Merritt says:

The movie looks so terrible. The concept is not great and then adding in Blake’s bad acting, it looks like a train wreck.

  24. roxy750 says:

She needs to stop with the open mouth thing–like JLo. It looks really stupid. Hate it.

  25. mar says:

    her face looks very off

  26. Twinkle says:

    fug

  27. lolamd says:

Gurlll bring it down a notch

  28. Queen says:

I’ve seen the movie, and I really enjoyed it! I’m not usually a big Blake fan, but she does well in this role

  29. Patty says:

Saw a preview of this last week. It is actually a pretty good entertaining flick (dramatic voiceover withstanding). Huisman is hot as all get out. Blake has an amazing wardrobe in the flick but I still cannot get into her. I will admit her performance was fine, but she continues to talk as though she has a mouth full of marbles and she looks very harsh from certain angles. But I’d recommend it. Harrison Ford and Huisman are pretty awesome, as is the actor who played Harrison Ford’s character as a youngster.

  30. Foile says:

Johnny Weir has also worn this dress. Last year.

  31. Amy says:

I actually live very close to where the premiere for the movie was held! My roommates walked past the tent last night and saw Blake from afar. Also the same theater where I glimpsed Hugh Jackman promoting Chappie a few months back.

Also why is nobody talking about the fish clutch?! It’s all I can see here!

  32. funcakes says:

    Something nice
That dress looks like a vintage Rita Hayworth gown.

    The bad news
This movie is a bad rehash of “Orlando” staring Tilda Swinton. Originally a Virginia Woolf novel.
