Renee Zellweger on her boyfriend: ‘He’s a very sweet man. I’m very, very happy’

"One Starry Night...From Broadway To Hollywood" In Support Of The Golden West Chapter Of The ALS Association
These are photos of Renee Zellweger and her boyfriend of two years, musician Doyle Bramhall II, at an event for The ALS Association on Monday night. As Fishwrapper notes, whatever Renee had done to her face and eyes last year has settled a bit, or maybe we’re just used to her new look, it’s hard to tell. She does look more like the Renee we came to know. The too-long bangs are throwing me off a bit, though.

Renee’s lace overcoat is Burberry and People reports that she has a little black dress on underneath, although I couldn’t find any photos of her with the coat off. Burberry is often fabulous, but I dislike the trend of overcoats as dresses and something feels wrong about lace on a coat. It’s like too many disparate trends that don’t go together. Plus the coat is ombre at the bottom and along the sleeves (comparison photo to runway here.) That’s yet another trend that doesn’t belong.

Anyway I feel like a superficial bitch (which I’m fine with) for focusing on Renee’s coat when she was there for such an important cause. In her speech to the crowd, Renee talked about her longterm friend and publicist, who is living with ALS. Just reading what she said is getting me choked up. On the red carpet, Renee also gushed about her boyfriend. She does seem really happy.

“I’m great. I’m busy. I’m happy,” the actress, 45, told PEOPLE at the star-studded event, which raises money to help conquer amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the progressive neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Donning a Burberry jacket over a little black dress, the Bridget Jones’s Diary star was all smiles while chatting about her boyfriend of more than two years, musician Doyle Bramhall II, who was by her side at the charity gala.

“Isn’t he cute? He’s a very sweet man,” she said. “I’m very, very happy right now.”

But the night wasn’t just any red carpet appearance for Zellweger. She explained that the organization has been extremely supportive of her close friend and longtime publicist Nanci Ryder, who was diagnosed with the disease nine months ago.

“It wasn’t hard to throw on a pair of shoes for this one,” she said.

“As a person who loves someone who is living with ALS, I’m happy to be here among so many of you who understand what that diagnosis means,” the actress said during her speech about Ryder. The audience then applauded the famed Hollywood publicist.

“We’ve learned that living with ALS does not mean being defined by the disease. She’s a beautiful example of that,” Zellweger said of her friend. “Her spirit is as vivacious as ever.”

[From People]

The ALS Association raised so much awareness and funding with the ice bucket challenge last year, and I’m sure they’re grateful when celebrities continue to support the cause. This is a disease affecting Renee’s dear friend, and right now there is no cure. It must be incredibly difficult to see someone you love gradually lose the ability to control their body. I cannot even imagine it.

Renee and Doyle also went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony together last week. I’m including photos of them there below. The late Stevie Ray Vaughn was one of the inductees and Doyle was a childhood friend. Doyle also founded a band with Charlie Sexton and two former members of Vaughn’s Double Trouble band.

Look at how happy Renee is with Doyle!

It’s a wonderful cause, a heartbreaking disease, and good for her for supporting it.

Something about her new eyes makes her look worried, but she does look more like herself.

  2. Abbott says:

Kiddo’s internal organs are going to short circuit when she catches a glimpse of that hot slab of sex Bramhall.

    • Kiddo says:

Somehow the universe is conspiring to only give me a glimpse at the jump photo, all others seem to be blocked.

    • mia girl says:

I saw these photos last night and was so happy that kiddo was going to get a Bramhall Injection today!!

Kiddo and Brahmall sitting in a tree…
      K I S S I N….No birds!! That hair is NOT your nest!!!!

      • Kitten says:

        Her hair or his?

I’m glad to see the donut is back in style.

      • Kiddo says:

Nest? I imagine an entire ecosystem in there. It’s where we will all go to live in peace and harmony, when the Duggars take over the world.

      • mia girl says:

Kitten – good question. I didn’t notice at first but the pictures show she wore the bump-bun on at least two occasions. Not sure why. Maybe Physics?

Kiddo – I know you are on a love-high, but cool it with the Duggar references, you may offend Abbott’s hair.

Why are the photos not showing!?!

  4. Barrett says:

my grandfather died at 50 of this dreadful disease. He really suffered, his body and lungs deteriorating but his brain staying totally with it. God bless Renee for the support and prayers to all who suffer.

  5. Andrea says:

Does anyone notice her eyes are squinty again?

  6. Kiddo says:

    Ahhh AHHH AHHHHH AHHHH AHHHHHHH*

*operatic scale, sung by choir in church, denoting heavenly happenings, only it’s true THIS TIME.

  7. GingerCrunch says:

How to follow the great Kiddo? But I’ll attempt it. Renée looks so much more like herself…YaY! I applaud her raising awareness for ALS. Such a devastating disease I cannot even imagine.

And one more thing if I may: SRV forever! ❤️

  8. Melain says:

Oh Renee. Doyle seems so immature and self-centered. Generalization alert: Why do these successful women get so into these narcissistic adolescent men who never want to grow up?

    • Lola says:

Ouch, really? I don’t see it. What I am glad to see is Renee Z. looking like an individual person. I mean, she has a tendency to LOOK like her men, like she becomes a female version of them.

      • Observer says:

She never looked like jack white!!

        …did she? :S

      • Lola says:

        @Observer:
je, je … I can’t seem to find the picture, but I remember it, both with Jet Black color hair and pale white. I would say, same with her other beaus. There is something, imho, from the way she carried herself and dressed that mirrored the men she was dating at the time. Granted, I know in some fashion women and men do it also.

    • JLo says:

I was thinking something similar, that the repeat top-knot is to go along with her boyfriend’s big hair. I guess you have to go big so he doesn’t look so silly standing next to you?

  9. Tracy says:

I’m just glad Renee’s squinty eyes and shiny face are back. Looks like the surgery took care of most of the inflated chipmunk cheeks she used to sport, but I’m glad it’s settled so she looks looked a modified version of herself and not like a complete reinvention any longer — that was so distracting.

I don’t mind the white lace coat, but the ombré to grey just makes it look dirty and grimy. I would have preferred it in solid white or solid grey, or ombré to another color.

  10. lucy2 says:

She does look good (though I dislike the lace coat) and it’s great that she’s lending support to this worthy and personal cause. She seems like a sweet person, I’m glad she’s doing well and is happy.

  11. Katarina says:

I’m 33 and still have not met the one. This gives me hope.

  12. Christin says:

I think it’s great she is supporting ALS. There are so many neuromuscular diseases that are not commonly known, but destroy a person’s independence and can end lives.

My father had one (MG) on top of advanced Parkinson’s, and it was devastating to watch. He tried, his neurologist tried, but it was a hard fight. Many of the medicines are double edged swords. My dad passed peacefully (stopped breathing, likely from the MG), and as sad as it is, the worst was likely yet to come from those muscle wasting, independence robbing diseases. Every single day is a battle once they take hold.

  13. I Choose Me says:

I’m one of the few who really didn’t think she looked that different except her eyes seemed more open and she had a (non-flattering) tan. I’m loving that coat, ombre and all which is surprising because I normally detest lace.

On a more serious note, ALS is a terrible disease and I can only imagine how horrible it is for the sufferers as well as their loved ones who can only watch helplessly as the endure. But the human spirit is an indomitable thing and Renee’s friend Ms. Ryder sounds like an awesome and courageous person.

  14. boredblond says:

He’s got that whole jimi hendrix- which way is Woodstock thing goin’ on. I like her and am glad her face is, uh, settling back to recognizable renee
