People Magazine is suspiciously trying to make Tala Alamuddin ‘happen’

136519PCN_Tala02

If you’ve been following the saga of When George Met Amal, you might remember that I covered some photos of Amal’s sister Tala last August. In that post, I called Tala “Pippa-esque.” Tala is Amal’s younger sister, and Tala has been around for every step of Amal and George’s courtship, apparently. I’m pretty sure Tala lives full-time in London, and her “job” seems to be just as socialite-y as Pippa Middleton. Tala was just in NYC last week visiting her big sister and their parents. Tala got photographed a lot and she seemed to enjoy it. Since there were so many photos of her last week, People Magazine decided to do a blatant PR-plant story on how Tala is the “new Pippa Middleton.” Well I never! The main part of the story:

Just like her sister, Tala’s got some serious style. The meal may have been an intimate family occasion, but Tala looked glamorous enough for a night on the red carpet in a white ensemble (complete with a sexy slit) finished off with a pair of sleek snakeskin boots.

That’s just one of her killer outfits. She’s also been spotted sporting a Moschino purse, wearing an on-trend fringe skirt and owning a straw cowboy hat on the sidewalk. Amal’s younger sister is practically her twin, too: Their resemblance give away their connection instantly (just like Kate and Pippa!), and they both have long, thick raven hair. She may be her sister’s double, but Tala’s got an identity that’s all her own. On her LinkedIn, she says she’s an events planner and branding specialist (remember that other celeb event planner?)

When she’s not turning heads on the streets of Manhattan, Amal’s globe-trotting sibling calls Singapore home. She’s married to Singaporean businessman Nagi Hamiyeh, with whom she has a daughter, Mia. They may not always be living on the same continent, but Amal and Tala’s bond is still super-tight. At her sister’s 2014 wedding, Tala took on all the traditional maid of honor duties (Amal elected not to have an official maid of honor because of the small guest list) – and her daughter Mia was the flower girl.

“Tala is a jewel,” an Alamuddin relative tells PEOPLE. “She’s a giver. And very close with Amal.”

[From People]

Much like the Middleton sisters, I feel like Amal and Tala struggle with their casual clothes. Much like the Middleton sisters, the Alamuddin sisters put a lot of focus on hair. Much like the Middleston sisters, the older one frequently gets the “cat that got the cream” face. Much like the Middleton sisters, I feel like Amal and Tala might have some passive-aggressive issues. And much like Amal, I feel like George Clooney’s press people are trying to make Tala “happen.” Why? Does Tala’s events-planning business need some hype?

    Those boots are truly awful.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I jumped when I saw them. Dreadful.

      • Sullivan says:

        Yep, the boots are startling.

      • Kitten says:

        I whimpered in fear.

I like ripped jeans but there’s more holes than fabric on these.

      • FLORC says:

Startling is the perfect word. Waist up that outfit is great.
Amal and Tala have the worst styles. Although, now Amal more than likely has a stylist or some guide.

      • Tessy says:

Gum boots are now made with flowers and other designs on them and they make going out to muck out the chicken coop or work in the garden mighty fashionable. Those pants have seen better days though.

    • jugstorecowboy says:

      Awful-magified by those jeans.

    • Christin says:

To bad the shredder did not get to the boots after chewing up the jeans.

    • Pandy says:

Combined with the jeans – awful. I like the jacket though. Much like Pippa – she won’t happen.

    • Alison says:

Hilarious … I physically jumped when I saw those boots. The jacket looks beautiful though.

    • guest says:

Her casual fashion sense seems more like early twentieth century rag picker to me…

    • Moxie says:

Throws off everything… even the background

  2. Fa says:

    No gonna happen

  3. Jegede says:

I agree that there appears to be a Pippa Middleton strategy going on.

But I also find it very odd.

  4. MelissaManifesto says:

I laughed out loud every time I read the just like the Middleton Sisters part.

I like Amal. Yes Vogue, People, and other media and fashion outlets are obsessed with her, but I like the fact that she’s educated even if some people have been trying to downplay that and make it seem like nothing. We don’t ever really know what is going in someone’s marriage, celebrity or otherwise, that’s why I always try to refrain from commenting unless there is some sort of official announcement or reliable source.

Back to Tala, her hair is amazing.

    • Esmom says:

I laughed, too. And I agree that Tala’s hair is amazing. They win in the hair game by a huge margin.

    • Heather says:

Me too! Funny reference and smart writing here on this post — just like Pippa she will be a flash in the pan. But seriously, these girls have GREAT hair!

    • oneshot says:

Her hair really is amazing, Amal’s has nothing on it. That level of shine combined with the length…wow.

The part that makes me most jealous is, it very likely all grew out of her own head. Middle Eastern (and South Asian) women seem to get killer hair and eyebrows as part of the package, it seems.

      • MelissaManifesto says:

I agree about the hair. I am half Middle Eastern from my father’s side and his sisters hair are Tala amazing.

  5. Loulou says:

Stop trying to make fetch happen.

  6. LAK says:

Love the pink outfit. Dress, earrings, coat, shoes and all.

    • Kitten says:

Me too. Her coat game is strong.

    • FLORC says:

The shoes? Aren’t they velvet and glitter platform heels? These girls have (imo) some of the worst shoe game i’ve ever seen.
Her coat game is awesome though.

      • Suzanne says:

IF you ever view a website called Zulily….the often offer shoes from Britain…and I’ve noted for the record…England has some AWFUL shoe styles. You can pick them out of a line up of shoes….they have a sort of Pilgrim-ish look to them…and some are just down right UGLY…like these boots Pippy wanna be is wearing.

      • FLORC says:

It’s on this sites side ads sometimes. I looked into it and it’s not a great deal. Poor quality and returns can be $80 for a $15 purchase. And it’s likely you will have to return since the sizes are often incorrectly marked. The styles are expected from a company that operates like that.
And I have ordered from clothing companies within England. They do have lovely clothes and shoes there, but also junk. It’s not like she only has junk to pick from.

      • LAK says:

Yes they are Florc. I can’t wear anything like that at the moment, but come the summer, i’ll be strutting down a high street in a pair of those!!!

Ps: Miu Miu tend to do glitter heels every year and I love my Miu Miu…a company that makes ugly fabulous shoes!!

On the other hand, those boots should be burnt.

      • FLORC says:

        LAK
If that’s the shoe style you like you sure picked a good brand!
And I thought her boots were wellies. They look like wellies!

  7. INeedANap says:

Re: the last picture: what is she wearing and why is she wearing it??

And why the press? She has a husband and child, it’s not like she’s hunting for a “personal financier” a la Pippa.

    • Div says:

I feel like this is more than press on its own than Tala herself (even if Tala is enjoying it). There really aren’t any old-school, interesting society figures like there used to back in the day (or even a JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette) in the States and so the press is trying to create some figures to get the public’s interest.

      • Esmom says:

I hear you but does the press really need to create any old-school style society figures when we now have so many more average Joes jockeying for their moment of fame?

      • guest says:

No, this is their mother Baria, who has a PR firm who is pushing most of the stories about both daughters.

    • TeaAndSympathy says:

I don’t know, and have no interest in, brands – designer or otherwise. But can you ladies please discuss that red bag? I think I love it and know I need it.

  8. PHD Gossip says:

people magazine is nicknamed kneepads for a reason.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Really. What with the Duggars and the “sweet” romance between the underage Jenner girl and that 25 year old, I just won’t even read People in the dentist’s office anymore. Does that qualify as a boycott?

      • Bridget says:

I am so over People. It’s just such blatant PR it’s not even fun to read anymore, and even the awards show stuff stinks now. You can practically predict what the content will be for each subject at this point.

  9. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

    “Ah, it’s a happening thing
    And it’s happening to you
    Full load and thunder
    Ribbons of blue
    Ice on the window
    Ice in my heart
    Filling with Thunder
    Every time we start”

  10. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I wish my sister would get off her behind and marry some famous dude so I could gain from it. Lazy. That’s her problem.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Listen, mine’s not helping me out either. It’s downright rude.

But it doesn’t sound like Tala is trying to do some social climbing here. I seem to remember that she married well and is already pretty well connected? So not quite the new Pippa.

    • Ange says:

I don’t even have a sister, my parents obviously didn’t love me enough to provide me with one.

  11. MinnFinn says:

Tala’s clothes remind me of Paris Hilton in that they are too young given her age. She has gorgeous hair/extensions. And she appears to be a healthy weight.

It does sound like Tala is going for the Pippa style gravy train. Pippa’s declared income last year was supposedly $250k which is not chump change given how little work she actually does. And people like Pippa get thousands of dollars of free and discounted luxury goods and services which they don’t have to account for nor pay tax on the value of those things.

  12. Greek chic says:

    She’s way prettier than Pipa.
I never got Pipa’s hype. She has a plain face and her “famous” booty isn’t that impressive.
At least Tala has cuter features and lovely shiny hair.

  13. LDUB says:

    Who? Followed by a, huh?

  14. Eleonor says:

But unlike the Middleton Sister Amal has a job.
(I don’t know about her sister)

    • Franca says:

Exactly. She’s successful in her own right, let’s not paint her as a glorified housewife ala Kate.

      • noway says:

Wow what with the hate for the Middleton’s. Here I thought Duchess Kate was going to be married to the King of England someday, not just a glorified housewife. Also, what is wrong with a housewife either?

First, we are not painting anyone anyway. People is a known PR push for celebrities thus George’s PR team is painting Tala and Amal this way, as this is an article in People.

Second, Amal may be successful and educated in her own right, but she does not have a “job” in the way most of us would think with a salary. Barristers at Doughty Chamber in the UK are what us the US would call freelancers, and work by case. This is the reason she has all the time to travel. Second she does have a temporary lecturer position at Columbia, but that is only for one semester and not even sure if she is teaching each class or just lecturing someone else’s class. In this essence she is very similar to Pippa Middleton’s type of job. Granted, Amal’s work may be a more important or impressive type of work, but to each his own.

The only thing I would say is that George’s PR people are really trying to elevate them all to royalty or US royalty as in the Kennedy’s status.

      • emmet says:

noway – you are looking at 2016 as the run for office for GC?
This is all I see for them

  15. AG-UK says:

Call me old fashion but WHEN will this strategically ripped jeans look be over.. good lord. Those boots are awful.

  16. kri says:

Those shoes are so hideous they made my eyes water.

  17. Becks says:

Oh wow!!! I just had a close look at her earrings (first picture).

    I don’t know what to think….

  18. Christin says:

Good thing I am due for an eye exam soon. Because I am not seeing this incredible double likeness between the sisters.

Maybe my optometrist can incorporate sister comparisons as part of the many little vision exercises.

    • LAK says:

She does look like Amal circa 2013. Since then, Amal has lost weight, had a nose job and made her teeth over, not to mention the fashion/style make over.

      • Christin says:

Good point. I had forgotten about the big makeover.

      • GingerNYC says:

she was definitely the prettier sister pre-makeover. Amal had a lot of work done and it was done very well.

      • lisa says:

even post makeover, i find amal’s face to be really harsh like if mr bean lost 50 lbs

i give the edge to tala, who looks like a manly rachel griffiths

  19. Jayna says:

    Horrible outfit.

  20. Debb says:

    She has Amal’s original nose.

  21. I think the Clooney PR machine seems to be confused. The peasants are interested in Pippa because she is the sister-in-law of Future King of England and Tala is sister-in-law of an aging actor, who was once a famous bachelor. I have read on some of the gossip rags comparing Almudin sisters as the next Kardashians, really nothing to aspire to. Next is their own reality TV show.

    • PHD gossip says:

+1,000,000. Try hard Squared. I will always be convinced that the Clooney marriage happened because of a confluence of factors: Bad reviews for the Monument Men movie and a public fight with Steve Wynn that he wasn’t winning. Wynn basically called him a narcissistic alcoholic.

      • Christin says:

I also think the increased snark over his girlfriend trade-in pattern was a factor.

Definitely multiple factors that could have led him to seek an ‘on his level’ partner for PR. But now, the partner seems to be running the PR show.

      • emmet says:

go back further – 2012 nerd prom – Kimmel made jokes about dating Keibler, then the MM bomb, etc. So wants to be taken seriously and control the comments

  22. Jade says:

Pretty. Saw that she fell down pretty bad while in the pink dress. I don’t know about her job but I’d rather see her fashion than Pippa’s. Her casual style needs work ahaha

  23. Tracy says:

Tala’s a pretty girl. And seems to be a healthier weight than her sister.

  24. Bridget says:

“Small guest list” for that Venice extravaganza?

Those boots and those shredded jeans should be burned.

  25. bros says:

she looks like ben kingsley in drag. no thanks

  26. FingerBinger says:

Amal and Tala have interesting taste in clothes.

  27. Fan says:

Why not she is a beauty. She has that lightness and likability in her.

  28. lowercaselois says:

What -She’s married to Singaporean businessman Nagi Hamiyeh, with whom she has a daughter, Mia.”…so who is the guy (identified on the Daily Mail website as Nico in the picture) she was holding hands with when they visited the GC and went out to dinner.

    • Antonym says:

This is what I picked up on too! Last week the tabs were stating that Tala was visiting NY with her BOYFRIEND Nico, and now this week she has a HUSBAND named Nagi. This is the real story, scandal!!!
(Sorry for the caps. I don’t know how to do the fancy italics that Kiddo & the cool kids do😔)

  29. allie says:

The scroll-down on that coat with the ripped jeans. O. M. G.

  30. GingerNYC says:

wow, she’s got GREAT legs!! so fit and healthy, and so much better than Amal’s chicken legs. when I see Amal now all I think is “scrawny” not slim or elegant, she’s just way too thin. and her hands are seriously skeletal!

    • kibbles says:

I only came here to say that Tala looks way better than her sister Amal. That is the difference between the Alamuddins and the Middletons. Kate is the prettier than Pippa but Tala is much prettier than Amal. However both younger sisters are the same in that they are socialites who mooch off of their sisters’ marrying rich and famous men.

  31. Leslie says:

That is odd that they’re trying to make her happen. Why? Maybe she’s planning to leave her husband and become a full time paparazzi celebrity. Or she could be starting up some GOOP-like, lifestyle business.

  32. Dari says:

Mama Baria (watch out kris Jenner) must be working overtime. Another daughter to get out there so let’s see who she works her black magic on to get her daughter well known. Is this a hint that the marriage contract will soon be up for her other daughter so she has to push this one out front.

  33. meme says:

I’ll take Amal and her sister and the Middletons over the Kartrashians and Duggars any time.

  34. kellybean says:

She has gorgeous hair and beautiful fit legs. Does anyone else think she looks similar to Charlotte from Sex and the City in that first picture?

  35. siri says:

    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/04/30/22/2827FE8B00000578-3063210-image-m-141_1430429678893.jpg

As far as I know, she’s divorced, and has a boyfriend to whom she’s engaged. She lives in Singapore. I find both sisters not overly attractive, but quite manly looking. Both have harsh features. Only Tala ist not that skinny. They seem to share the same dress sense, however.

  36. MadMenluv says:

So her daughter’s name is Mia Hamiyeh? Yikes! Try saying that a dozen times!

  37. Juju says:

Not a good look at all.

  38. How much do these wannabes pay people mag to promote themselves?

  39. Christina says:

There is so much face to her!

  40. Gia says:

Regarding the photograph where Tala is wearing a dress. Her heels look like clunky ’90s stripper heels. I saw a photograph of her the other day wearing the same heels while trying to step off a curb and falling and thought the heels looked so tacky.

Her overall style looks outdated to me. Her face also looks like a manlier version of Amal’s.
