Miranda Lambert spends a lot of time ‘planning spaces’ for her 15 rescue animals

ML1

Miranda Lambert is the first ever celebrity to cover Country Living magazine. I actually love these types of home-decorating magazines. I don’t like the super-fancy ones, where it’s like “I combined three massive Manhattan apartments because I just didn’t have enough space for my wine and cigar collection.” Those magazines make me feel like a class warrior. But the home decorating magazines that are like “I bought a terrible little cottage and I redid the kitchen and just painted everything else”? I love those. Miranda actually guest-edited this issue of Country Living, and she did the cover interview (obvs). Most of the quotes are blah, blah, I’m a country girl, blah. But she talks about trying to incorporate enough space in her home for her 15 RESCUE ANIMALS. Some highlights:

How Country is “in her blood”: “I grew up in Lindale, Texas, where the town motto is Good Country Living (really!), so you could say country life has been in my blood since birth. Even now, my husband Blake [Shelton] and I live in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, which is roughly two hours from any major city. There’s just a peace that comes with country life.”

On her summer plans to make jam with Blake: “My dad taught me to live off the land. I now have my own garden, but Blake is really the gardener. This year, we’re planting tomatoes and strawberries to make jam. I have a little downtime this summer, so I’m looking forward to this task.”

On her beloved pick-up truck, Tammy: “I’ve had Tammy, my candy apple red ’55 Chevy stepside, since I was 17. It’s named after Tammy Wynette, because that was the cassette tape in the player when I got it. Blake and I had it on display at our wedding, although I still won’t let him drive it!”

Miranda’s love for her pets and obsession with Pinterest: “We’re building a new house, and I’ve been saving inspiration on Pinterest. A friend of mine recently said, ‘I can see your Pinterest boards, and all you have on there are dog rooms.’ My husband [singer Blake Shelton] and I have 15 rescue animals, and I spend way too much time planning our pets’ spaces. I’m like, okay, I probably need Miranda Lambert, to move on to the laundry room!”

[From Country Living]

I have just one dog and let me tell you… he makes every room his own space. My bedroom is HIS room. The living room his play area. My office is his nap space. The foyer is his other nap space. The hallway is his thinking space. The bathroom is his drinking hole (I’ve grown to accept that he will always drink from the toilet). But I can understand how Miranda might need to create special areas and spaces just for her animals, since there are 15 of them. Good God. Does she have a full-time staff member just to take care of the dogs?

Oh, and the idea of Blake Shelton as a gardener? Interesting. I keep getting a weird vibe from their marriage though, so I kind of think he’s spending time in another woman’s garden.

  1. It is what it is says:

I always unabashedly love anyone who rescues animals!!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, I can’t help but love her for this.

      • qwerty says:

Never ever clicked on a story about her, don’t even know who she is but from now on she’s on my radar. I had 1 rescue and foster another one for now but if I’m ever as rich as her I’m gonna have 15, and each is gonna have their own room. And a napping room, and a thinking room…

      • qwerty says:

Nevermind. Scrolled down and learned she’s a hunter, **** her.

    • kcarp says:

I live in the same area as them about 40 miles away. ….she is for real with the rescues she is always doing some adoption event where she lives and she always calls in to the radio station to talk about what dogs they have available etc.

I agree though I think they have a weird thing going on with the 2 of them

  2. Loulou says:

Seems excessive, but honestly if you have her kind of money… Those are 15 rescue pets that are way better off.

  3. Lindy79 says:

Anyone who champion’s the rescue animal cause is great by me for that reason.

Cats are as bad for claiming every space in the house and throw you dirty looks if you happen to be in one at a time of their choosing, they also just walk across you waving their bumhole in your face until you move

    • Izzy says:

LOL. Then my admittedly small dog must have some cat in her, because she does the same thing.

I’ve never cared about Miranda Lambert one way or the other, but I like her more now knowing she’s given 15 rescues a second chance and a good home.

    • Sadezilla says:

Lindy79, they surely do! I have tried in vain to keep my Himalayan off my pillows and out from under the covers of my bed, and it’s not happening. She’s a persistent little four pound thing!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, my cat breathes in my husband’s ear in the morning to wake him, and I often awake to the cat bottom in my face. It’s not a great start to the day.

    • Lindy79 says:

One of mine farted in my face while walking across my laptop.

I was on a conference call

    • Pandy says:

LOL yes I appreciate her more now because of her rescues. We’ve counted 18 different spots that our cat has claimed for sleeping. That’s not including any random items of clothing on a floor that he claims.

    • Wren says:

I had to be very strict with my cat for awhile because she tried to kick my boyfriend out when he moved in! So now she’s actually pretty submissive about space. We give her plenty, but there is no territoriality allowed.

  4. Bellaboo says:

She seems like a sweet person andI love hearing that she is an animal rescuer! I really enjoyed reading this except for your very last sentence. Was that necessary? Seems like a pretty mean joke at her expense. It kind of kills the positivity of the post.

    • Curious Cole says:

      +1
I always get a happy vibe from Miranda and Blake’s marriage, they’re well matched. (Their tweets are hilarious) And it’s highly unlikely that a man would cheat on the singer of “Gunpowder & Lead” 😉

      • supposedtobeworking says:

plus, her parents are private investigators. I think they just try to keep it private and it comes off less warm than they are. They show up at each others tours and are very affectionate on stage. I dunno.

  5. Jaice says:

She and her husband are avid hunters. She is no true animal lover. She picks and chooses the animals who “she” decides are worthy to live…and those that will suffer by a violent death by her own hand! NOTHING to admire here!

    • bopit says:

What is wrong with hunting to harvest the meat? It’s better for the animal to be quickly killed in their natural habitat at a mature age than to be raised in a breeder farm where they’ve never experienced true outdoor freedom/roaming and are pumped full of hormones and then killed as soon as they possibly can to get the peak market price.

      • Triple Cardinal says:

Lambert isn’t hunting to “harvest the meat.” She’s not poor and living off the land. She hunts for sport. If you want to see Miranda Lambert in action, go over to Google Images and key in: Miranda Lambert Hunting Crossbow.

Then decide if these animals are so much better off.

Small animals get rescued. Bigger ones get hunted ’cause they wandered into her cross-hairs.

      • Brittney B says:

I agree that a quick death after a life of freedom is much better than the conditions of factory farming.

        HOWEVER…

She enjoys the sport of killing animals. Period. She doesn’t hunt because she needs meat to survive and refuses to support factory farming… she hunts because she enjoys it. I can’t imagine having enough empathy to rescue companion animals, but still not relating at all to the terror or individuality or emotion of a deer in the forest. She just uses animals for personal gain, whether it’s the fun of killing one or the heroic gesture of rescuing one or the fondness for a cute one.

      • Wren says:

I’d rather eat an elk my friend killed than a factory farmed steer. People who have never been hunting seem to think it’s really easy to just go out and shoot something. It isn’t. How is it so much worse than going down to the store and buy a package of meat? I really don’t get that. I don’t hunt personally but I have no problem with people who do and then eat the meat. That’s kind of how, like, nature works. What I do hate is people who just want something to brag about and a rack of antlers for the wall.

      • qwerty says:

        @bopit

“There is no right way to kill someone who doesn’t want to die”.

    • whinybabieswhine says:

And does she eat the meat? Do you think someone who eats a hamburger can’t love a puppy? And what of the fact that even vegans and vegetarians feed their cats and dogs animal meat? Are those folks also not true animal lovers? Could you publish a list of criteria for true animal lovers since you’re the pro?

      • Wren says:

I love animals and I like to eat some of them. Being an animal lover means you want the best possible life for all animals, including the ones you intend to consume. Living in their natural state, eating their natural diet, and generally having things as stress-free as possible. I don’t believe that this is mutually exclusive with that life ending quickly and as humanely as possible so that animal can be eaten. In this country at least we have SO MANY slaughter regulations on humane dispatch of livestock. Yes there are still problems but it’s hardly the gleeful horror show that PETA and their ilk like to portray.

As one rancher I know puts it, “My cattle have only one bad day. Not even a day. One bad hour. That’s more than you can say for just about anything else.”

      • qwerty says:

“And what of the fact that even vegans and vegetarians feed their cats and dogs animal meat?”

Not all of them. There is vegan food for pets you know, and lots of people buy it.

Also, the fact that she might not be eating the meat changes nothing. The animal is dead, it doesn’t care whether you eat its body. Not eating it will not bring it back to life.

      • TrustMeOnThis says:

Cats are obligate carnivores. They cannot thrive or survive on a vegan diet. Most of their food is “by-products” of the meat industry.

      • qwerty says:

        @TrustMeOnThis

Not true. Not every cat can thrive on vegan diet, that I’ll agree with. But a lot of them do.

    • Lara K says:

Lets split the difference and call her a dog lover. She really has done a lot for dogs,
But Ive seen photos of her holding up a dead stag’s head so I can see the opposing point too. Most hunters love dogs.

Either way I think her work with dogs deserves recognition.

    • Tracy says:

I hear you, and I say this respectfully, but are you vegan? You ain’t seen cruel until you’ve been to stock “finishing” yards where stressed animals are fed only grains (not their natural diet and causes them all kinds of gastro pain) just to fatten them up for high market weights and more $$. Then go watch cattle killed by electric shocks up the anus. And don’t get me started on VEAL…

    • WhiskeyGirl says:

Comments like this show how you don’t understand how we have destroyed the natural circle of life in America just for starters.

Herd control is necessary, otherwise farmers suffer which then is reflected in your grocery prices. Deer will eat anything that tastes good. Their natural predators are few and far between in the areas that you find deer, mainly since most people aren’t comfortable living around wolves, mountain lions, bears, jaguars, and coyotes.

And let’s not even go into car collisions with deer, how many lives are lost each year.

    • Kelly says:

Agreed. I can’t stand her due to the fact that she is an avid hunter.

  6. Lama Bean says:

My dog has her own bedroom. No I did not plan it this way. But when I saw a coat of her for on the sofa and couldn’t stop her from suntanning in my favorite chair, I gave up and put covers on everything.

And LOL at Blake in someone else’s garden, because you know his shovel has been used in many gardens an awful lot over the years.
