I tend to believe that Robin Wright and Sean Penn’s kids are split on gender lines – Dylan Penn is her mother’s daughter and Hopper Penn is tight with his dad (possibly because Hopper is a chip off the ol’ block). But this week’s Star Magazine claims that Robin is still involved with both her children, to the point where she’s trying to turn them against Sean Penn’s lover, Charlize Theron. The tabloids have tried to make this into a thing before – remember the story of Chuckles Theron? Yeah. And while Sean and Robin have been taking public shots at each other for months, I’m not sure if I believe it goes this far:
Insiders tell Star that Sean Penn’s ex-wife Robin Wright “absolutely despises” his new love, Charlize Theron – and isn’t shy about venting to her kids.
“Charlize has no relationship with Hopper and Dylan, because Robin won’t allow it,” a close friend reveals. “Robin tells them what a snob Charlize is and likes to point out how much time Sean spends with Charlize’s son. It’s really twisted.”
Despite moving on with Ben Foster, Robin still wants to be seen as the jilted spouse. “Robin and Sean had already split up when he and Charlize got together, but to Robin, Charlize is still the Other Woman… she might say she has respect for Sean, but behind closed doors, it’s a very different story.”

As I said, there’s no “behind closed doors” here. Robin came right out and said Ben Foster was a better lover than Sean. Sean has been throwing shade at Robin in interview after interview too. They are very public in their distaste for each other. And I honestly believe that Robin has perfected her Icy Bitch Realness to the point where she wouldn’t even deign to acknowledge Charlize’s presence. Or perhaps Robin does acknowledge it with perfectly executed passive-aggressive comments, like “Maybe Charlize will be able to help him become a better lover and a better man. Bless her heart.” As for the situation with the kids – Dylan and Hopper aren’t little kids, you know? Dylan is 24 and Hopper is 21. They’re old enough to make their own decisions about Daddy’s New Girlfriend.

Robin versus Charlize??
That’s celebrity gossip gold. But I really believe that at those ‘kids’ ages, no one can influence them more than themselves. if anything, Robin has beef with Sean.
If Charlize was not the cause of the breakup, how can Robin possible make herself believe that she is the other woman? That is a very twisted logic. I don’t have personal experiences with exes and children involved in the midst of parental woes, but from what I have seen and heard, it is best for everyone involved to have the children interact with both parents and their respected partners peacefully as far as the environment is healthy. They are adults and should be able to make their own choice without venom being infused in their heads against the other. What a pity.
Wow you are way more mature than most people I know. You can divorce someone and hate their guts but still be jealous of their next partner. Yeah, it’s crazy but true.
Speaking of Robin, I wonder why Charlize gets so much heat for being with him while the woman who married and had kids with him, was with him for a long time, and just a few years after the Madonna incident robot is given a complete pass. Yes, she got out but its not like she suddenly realized his violent tendencies and split, he had shown his true colors with Madonna already.
I think is because while he was with Robin he pretty much seemed tamed: he didn’t punch anyone in all those years and he went on becoming a decent actor, won awards, focused on his career and family. I throw shade to her although because when they got together the Madonna episode has already had happened. But I think she kind of trapped herself in that relationship by getting pregnant very young, I think she was like 23/24YRS really young. But she really kind of tamed him those years. Then they got divorced and boom!: Penn started again punching photographers and telling racist jokes at the Oscars.
It is not possible to “tame” an abuser. They don’t change. His abuse may have been better hidden, but trust that it was still happening.
Sadly, I think you’re right. It was just a way to put it that he didn’t have any violent outbursts, at least publicly, while he was with Robin.
I agree about Robin getting pregnant at a relatively young age (by today’s standards). And Wright had told a story years ago about the first time they saw each other…I think it was one of those attractions that feels like destiny…and after she became pregnant she saw it out until the end. I always wondered if she ended up staying as long as she did in order to ensure some measure of safety for her children.
I always looked side-eyed at Princess Buttercup after she married Penn (then took his name professionally several years later). Wright was also pretty open about her first marriage being a mistake of epic proportions – to a soap actor for whom she did not hold any fondness. How bad was that guy that Penn’s your next choice?

He does seem to attract a lot of pretty women though: Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, etc. How? I could see Scarlett being kind of dumb (though not really that dumb either), but the other two? And they’re all much younger than him too. Madonna was in his age range when they met, and he was young at the time, so the coupling of those two was less baffling to me on that level.
Robin has already thrown shade at Sean, not hard to imagine she has said negative things to her kids about Charlize. The reality is that Charlize comes across like such a b!t@h, that Robin doesn’t need to say anything at all.

Oh Robin is nicer handsdown. I read Cary Elwes memoir about the making of Princess Bride. He has nothing but nice things to say about her. Charlize on the other hand….
I just think that it would take an enormous amount of strength to be with someone like penn for 20 years. I don’t believe for a minute that Robin was a victim. I think in that relationship she gave as much as she took, they’re both strong personalities. I doubt Charlize would stick with him for 20 years*, like Robin did, but in her case there were kids involved and she actually said that they were the reason they kept trying and trying. I do believe that for a long time Robin and Sean really loved and were crazy about each other. I remember their chemistry in She’s so Lovely, such a beautiful crazy love story.
*edit: also because I doubt that poor Sean Penn will live for 20 more years, god bless him, but all that booze and drugs and cigarettes…just look at him, Clint Eastwood looks younger and healthier than Penn…
Heh. I do think for as chilly as Wright seems, as far as her kids go she’s a real earth-mother type. I believe she cut down on her work considerably to raise her kids.
And remember that carjacking a few years ago? During the 911 call she sounded pretty calm & direct. I always thought that was kind of badass.
As far as Charlize, I think being a beautiful woman with success in Hollywood did turn her into an ice queen who kicks puppies & and drinks babies’ blood to keep her youth.

I doubt Robin cares too much about Penn and Charlize. She has had moved on way before even penn started dating Charlize.
I’d tend to think the opposite: that penn is a jealous little bitch is not news, remember the jealousy scene he had years ago with then Robin’s producer boyfriend at the backstage of the Oscars. So I believe that if there’s someone who stills holds anger and resentment about the ex, that’s one in penn and not Robin, you can tell it too by the amount of negative and hurtful things he says about Robin in every interview he does. So if for one time Robin shows a little shade by hinting Penn was a lousy lover, I believe her and she gets a pass from me. She has always been infinitely more classy and private than Penn.
Dylan and Hopper hang out with both parent’s new lovers and are adult enough to handle it. So I call this BS particularly coming from Star.
Sort of OT: my boyfriend’s parents live in Venice in the same street /canal Foster’s parents live. They told me that Robin has been always seen hanging out with them and Gillian and Steven adore her. They own the Lucky Strike restaurants franchise.
I believe that Robin is a lot more like Sean, than anyone wants to believe. She has another nasty piece of work for a current boyfriend. There is nothing dainty and delicate about Robin.
So they both (Robin/Sean) fed off all that hate for years. Just think of being a child, having to deal in all that crazy. Every day, in your home.

Yeah I want to know what’s about Ben! As I wrote above, people I know have met him and his family and it appears that he’s a pretty normal guy. Besides the break up and make up Robin and Ben had, that could only mean that Robin is a volatile and takes no shit from anyone and is ready to dump you if you cross her, and could mean also that he’s very much in love, no matter the reason of the break up, to propose again to an older woman with 2 adult kids. I don’t think many 35year old guys would have the guts to get themselves in that situation if not because there’s true love.

He’s an ass but I think he has a s%$#-ton of self-confidence and maybe that was different than the other guys they dated before. Maybe other guys were kind of fawning and annoying or weren’t challenging enough for them. Word is out, anyway, so whoever takes up with him gets what they deserve.

A friend of mine is 22 and she has a slightly younger sister. Their parents divorced like 6 years ago and their mom STILL can’t get over it. The dad was a total douchebag, like in this case, but from what they tell me he was a good, caring dad. Yet the mother ALWAYS talked sh*t about him and his new girlfriends (that she hasn’t even know by name). The woman is so full of hate, the guy had a baby a few months ago and she won’t even let my friend meet her newborn sister.
If Robin is half the woman my friend’s mom is, Dylan and Hopper must have a very stressful relationship with their parents.
I’ve always given Charlize the side-eye since a friend’s mom (a psychotherapist) treated one of her ex boyfriends back in 2000. The man was having issues with Charlize’s desire to be physically dominated, which she told him was cultural, but he was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. When she got together with Sean Penn, I was the only one on my friends to say “I see it”.
A psychotherapist broke confidentiality to gossip about a patient?!? Even naming his partner?!?
