Charlize Theron & the ‘Mad Max’ premiere ladies: who was the best dressed?

wenn22459114

Here’s Part 2 of our coverage of last night’s LA premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road. Part 1 is here – that was Tom Hardy, Jason Momoa, etc. What I like about this film and the film promotion is that it’s pretty clear that Charlize Theron is very, very important to the story. She’s not playing an accessory to Mad Max. She is her own character, and some even say that Charlize’s Furiosa is the one driving the plot and Max is secondary. George Miller even brought in feminist Eve Ensler to advise him how to strengthen the female characters in the film. Which is nice, you know?

Anyway, Charlize came to the premiere with her lover Sean Penn. Why is Penn is red and leathery these days? He looks like a ham hock. Charlize is wearing Dior. I feel like I’ve seen her in variations of this same dress about a million times, but this version is fine. It’s flattering, it’s sexy, it’s deceptively simple.

More photos from the premiere… Zoe Kravitz wore this dark Valentino Fall 2015 gown. For a summer movie premiere? It’s a little bit much.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore this great little Rodarte’s Fall 2015 dress. This is one of my favorites – it feels like a very rock n’ roll choice.

Riley Keough was probably my absolute favorite. She wore this leather Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2015 dress. This could have looked bad, you know? It’s burgundy leather after all. But she really pulls it off. She’s such a pretty young woman too.

Thandie Newton isn’t in the film, but she came out anyway. She wore this princess-y Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015. I don’t really have a problem with it.

I feel like for this kind of movie, you have to wear something badass to the opening, you know? Charleze, Riley and Rosie seemed to have gotten the memo

    • Bobbityboo says:

Charlize’s dress is meh. Looks like she’s going to a wedding not a Mad Max premiere.

Zoe Kravitz looks like she’d fit right in on Game of Thrones as Khaleesi’s half sister…and by that I mean, stunning.

Sean Penn looks the best he’s looked in EONS, maybe EVER (as sorry, I never thought he was attractive to begin with) – now, if he would only stay OUT of the tanning booth and off the beach. It’s crazy, especially because his natural skin tone is a very pale pasty redhead. ( https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/a1/f1/58/a1f158b37006e8da8efcd14a33d7e86f.jpg ) The damage he is doing, ugh.

Don’t know what Thandie is doing…in her Cinderella ball gown, did she fail to get an invite to the Met Ball?

  2. Kiddo says:

Charlize looks the best and I’m not even in love with that outfit, but she has a model’s body to pull it off.

    • Tristan says:

100% right. She is so beautiful, has great posture & looks great in most things

      • MsGoblin says:

I can’t get behind the “great posture” compliment. To me, it looks like she’s slouching, so as to not tower over the baked ham.

      • QQ says:

I Love what charlize is wearing, and actually Rosie’s situation is Very very Cute

      • ISO says:

@msgoblin my feelings exactly. Charlize man is so Rangeylooking, no offense to the range, but he gives off burnt vibes. Yeeesh.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      For the same reasons,I agree

    • Kitten says:

I’m in love with the leather dress, bell sleeves, and anything from the 1970s including bell bottoms, disco, KC and the Sunshine Band, and avocado green walls.

  3. Pixi says:

Maybe Thandie can wear that to her OWN premier?

    • tracking says:

Yes, it’s an odd choice for someone else’s premiere. Charlize looks amazing, but for her +1.

    • Patricia says:

oh! I thought she was in the movie! Then I take back what I wrote: no bueno trying too hard at somebody else’s movie premiere!

  4. lucy2 says:

I like Charlize’s and Riley’s looks. Thandie’s is pretty but seems a bit much for a Mad Max premiere.

  5. the blonde one says:

The post questions why Penn looks like a ham hock- coincidentally, my first question was why was Charlize’s dress made out of the stuff that wraps hams and turkeys?

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      Dior’s dress!

    • Chrissy says:

I had a similar thought. It looks like the styrofoam netting they put around soft fruit at the grocery store. I love Riley’s dress.

    • Esmom says:

My thoughts exactly. It looks like a Project Runway grocery store challenge.

  6. Catelina says:

Whitely looks the best to me, what a cool dress and she definitely carries it off well.

  7. MeeMow says:

I don’t have very good expectations that this movie will be any good. It’s been delayed for so long. She shaved her head for this role (in 2012!) and she’s already back past her shoulders. 3 years until release doesn’t bode well I think.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Apparently it was visually amazing but there is zero script .It’s just craziness

    • Kiddo says:

I’m thinking maybe special effects/editing added after filming?

    • jinni says:

The trailers do nothing for me. It’s just a whole lot of meh. I hope it bombs so that it will force these blockbuster moviemakers to put some actual substance in their movies and not just depend on visuals to carry the movie. For the amount of money these tickets cost I want an actual story not just special effects.

      • Kiddo says:

That’s how I felt about Avatar. It was so MEH.

      • FingerBinger says:

@Kiddo That meh film made 2 billion.

@jinni The creator George Miller wanted the special effects.

      • Kiddo says:

FingerBinger, That’s all good and fine, but it doesn’t make it a good film.

      • Chrissy says:

So much CGI and no script is a pet peave of mine as well. Also, I really bothers me when they remake classic films. They’re just begging to fail.

      • FingerBinger says:

        It’s not a remake. It’s a sequel or maybe a reboot.

      • jinni says:

@FingerBanger: A lot of movie that aren’t worth watching make a lot of money doesn’t mean they’re good (ex. Adam Sandler’s entire career). Because when all of the cgi in those movie become old looking the only thing they’ll be able to stand on/ that makes it a true classic is the storyline and a lot of those movie are seriously lacking in plot and character development. You really think that because the Transformer franchise or Avatar made a lot of money that they are good or are movie that people will want to revisit? I don’t think so.

I have no problem with special effects or big popcorn flicks, I just wish they’d put a more emphasis on make a good story as well as a visually arresting/ interesting movie.

      • FingerBinger says:

@jinni This whole discussion is moot since neither one of us actually seen Fury Road yet. We don’t whether there’s a story there or not.

  8. Jag says:

lol I’m so backwards with fashion because the only one I like is Zoe’s. Charlize’s hair and makeup looks good, though.

    • Anita says:

Nope, you are fashion -forward because Zoe looks fierce! She looks like a futuristic bride, I love it!

  9. Catelina says:

This movie doesn’t seem like my thing to be honest, but I like the fact that an effort was made to beef up the female characters so I wish it the best.

    • JENNA says:

I’m not sure about that. Apart from Charlize, all the other girls are models and seem to be just there because they are pretty.

      • Catelina says:

Oh is that the case? The way this article is written gave me the impression that the consulting with that feminist lady would have been about all the female characters, not just Charlize’s

  10. JENNA says:

What I mean is they haven’t been hired for their talent.

  11. morc says:

The dress looks like a bottle protector sleeve

  12. Beckysuz says:

Ham hock ?? Bahahaha!! Love it! So accurate. Like an old leather couch

    • Patricia says:

      he looks miserable, as always

    • MaiGirl says:

I sometimes wonder, does she not SEE the pictures of them together??? Does she not perceive that she looks lovely and healthy and he looks like one big cirrhosis case, among his many other fine, domestically violent qualities? DO BETTER, Charlize!

  13. Patricia says:

Something went wrong with Charlize right eye’s makeup…lashes sticking out or is it botox gone wrong? Anyway I’m happy she has gained a little bit of weight, she looks healthier with a fuller figure, her frame doesn’t allows her to look well when she’s skinny, mostly because she seems unable to put on some muscle.
If Rosie’s dress were longer it would have been the best dress of the night. Tandie newton takes the second place , All the others are meh.

  14. Beckysuz says:

Charlize looks beautiful, but her dress really smooshes her chest. That’s what I dislike about strapless dresses with no structure on top. Pancake chest

  15. manatee says:

Wow, Charlize looks like she is able to lift her Penn-Man easily. She’s great and has a really nice statuesque figure.

  16. Kaye says:

Re Thandie Newton . . . do you just decide to wear a fancy dress with a tulle skirt to the premier of a movie you’re not even in? Why?

“If I dress up maybe they’ll take my picture” ?

  17. tmbg says:

It just dawned on me that Charlize’s dress looks like it’s made out of that odd packing material. A place I ordered from used it in my box and it’s like thick paper mesh. Looks just like the dress!

She’s so gorgeous I didn’t even notice red Penn.

  18. Miran says:

I actually really like Zoe’s dress, summer or not it fits the film that they’re premiering.

  19. Tara says:

Charlize = the greatest mixture of classic beauty and talent to hit Hollywood. She has also started a trend in Hollywood of fighting for equal pay. Let’s give her props.

This dress looked better in video because you can see the sequins more, which make it even more stunning.

Charlize looks better than models half her age. Look at her.

  20. Lucy says:

Action flicks have never really been my go-to choices, but this one looks really good. I may go see it! Is it a sequel? Is there any movie (or movies) I need to see before it?

  21. bella says:

    he scares me…

  22. Laura says:

Riley is beautiful! She looks so much like her mother, Lisa Marie 🙂

  23. FishBeard says:

Love Rosie’s dress, Zoe always looks beautiful and the only thing unflattering about Charlize’s look is the lecherous little cretin on her arm.

  24. peggy says:

Ham Hock – good one!! Love Riley’s dress – that is stunning on her!

  25. Rosie HW killed it!
Zoe Kravitz looks her usual lovely bohemian self
Riley Keough is trying tooo hard to have the whole “I’m too genetically blessed to actually try”
vibe that she always gives off. Yes we know she’s Elvis’ granddaughter.. if she weren’t she’d be
working the night shift at the local Dairy Queen. She totally plays the Nepotism Card for all it’s
    worth..mehhhh..
Tandhie Newton.. Wait what?? she’s not even in the movie?? Girl Bye!!
Charlize Looks like that stretchy wrap that comes around wine/ champagne bottles
    or coincidentally ,, Ham Hocks!!
Dior did her No Favors Here!!
She must be angering someone at Dior Because the dresses they have given her lately
    Are Mehhhh..

I’m off to check out the Guy’s Thread
I would Only see this movie for Tom Hardy because I just saw him in Child 44 and I actually
liked the movie a lot (despite the crap reviews)
and now I have a new movie star crush on Tom Hardy and Naoomi Rapace
I want to see more of them both.. But he is the Only reason I would see this.
I’ll probably wait and Redbox it though

  26. Cankles says:

Sean Penn looks EXACTLY like a ham hock. Perfect description. I’m not sold on Charlize’s dress but I LOVE her hair. That’s kind of what I’m trying to get mine to do right now, with mixed results.

Zoe looks awesome, but I agree that it’s a bit heavy for a summer premiere. Rosie looks like she’s wearing fancy lingerie and I’ve not yet decided if that’s good or bad. No complaints on Riley’s and I agree with those up thread who mentioned that Thandie is way overdressed for a movie she’s not even in.

  27. Fan says:

If I didn’t have anything nice to say, I just might as well just keep quiet.

  28. LAK says:

Charlie and Robin are look simultaneously different and eerily similar.

  29. Grace says:

Sean Penn is beginning to look like Goldmember, Austin Power’s sun-fried nemesis
