Salma Hayek in Gucci at the Cannes Film Festival: stunning & beautiful?

Here’s one more weekend wrap-up post for all of the Cannes Film Festival fashion. These photos are all from Sunday’s premieres, actually, and I think the majority of them are from the big premiere of Todd Haynes’ Carol. Salma Hayek is attending this year’s Cannes because she’s promoting a movie, but she’s been doing a lot of high-profile events and it’s turned into a pretty major fashion show. She wore this purple Gucci last night and… wow. I think this is the best, most flattering gown I’ve seen on Salma in a really long time. I tend to think Salma does better with this kind of clean, simple styling.

Charlotte Casiraghi came out to Cannes wearing this rather blah Gucci. Charlotte is one of the faces of Gucci, which means she would have had her pick of all of the gowns. It seems like this was a weird call for her to make.

Poppy Delevingne in Burberry Prorsum. I kind of love this? Am I alone? Very few ladies are wearing green, so she really stood out. Plus, I love the design.

Erin O’Connor in Ralph & Russo Spring 2014. She looks like ribbon candy, the kind you get at Christmas. Man, how good is ribbon candy? You have to be in the mood for it, but when you are, it’s SO GOOD. Anyway, I like that she went for a bold, show-stopping dress, but her hair and makeup just feels like she didn’t put much effort into it beyond putting on the dress.

Sienna Miller walked a carpet with director Xavier Dolan. She wore this totally goth Sonia Rykiel Pre-Fall 2015 which I totally hate.

Aishwarya Rai in Elie Saab… WHY? She’s one of the most beautiful women in the world. Why would you put her in this cheap-looking gown that doesn’t even look finished?!

Li Bingbing in Elie Saab Fall 2014. Simple, pretty, elegant. A little bit boring.

    There’s a Li Bingbing now?

    • LAK says:

Yes there is. Unrelated. Li Bingbing is 40something. Fan Bingbing is 30something.

    • oneshot says:

BingBing is their given name, not their family name. They’re no more related than two women who have the first name Mary.

    • Elly says:

In Eastern cultures the family name is regularly put in front of the given name. So Li and Fan are two different family names. The given name Bingbing sounds cute and very girlie. No idea what it means.
Fan Bingbing has awesome red carpet style.

  2. tracking says:

Bingbing is flawless. Hayek looks stunning. Meh on the rest.

I love Poppy Delevigne’s dress, it’s cool and pretty all at once and the colour and shape saves it from being twee. Erin O’Connor’s too, she looks like she could be on an actual runway. As for Sienna, I don’t mind the gothy summer cape thing – if you’re going to do Cannes, do it properly – it’s wtf but she is no Reese Witherspoon. I’d rather have wtf than boring.

Aishwarya Rai is gorgeous but has always had terrible style. I feel like that’s the case with so many women who have faces as conventionally beautiful as hers – their personal style is kind of crap or completely basic because their faces do all the work. If they have the face + they’re slim enough, they don’t have to try to develop any kind of eye for style, or even real personal taste.

Salma looks great, I think the color itself is such a wow factor that there was no need for anything else to be added to it.

Love both floral dresses. Li is so beautiful and her dress is pretty but would have been better in a deeper/rich color

YOWZA!! That’s a DRESS on Salma!!, extremely gorgeous the color is a Dream!! I actually kinda Love everybody minus Sienna and Aishwara… Ribbon Candy Lady Coulda Used more makeup but it’s not bad

    • sills says:

Ditto, I’m feeling everybody here, lots of color, pattern, movement, excitement in these dresses…but I just can’t with Sienna in Marilyn Manson’s shower curtain. No.

  6. oneshot says:

Also Kaiser, can we get a pic of Go Ah-sung? (the girl who was in Snowpiercer).

She’s a hella talented young actress and I love her, would love to see what she wears here. Apparently people in her home country love to savage her for her looks, and I wonder what they are smoking, because she has the cutest little kitten face.

  7. Lisa says:

Colour is lovely but think her boobs are way to big to wear a dress like that. Does not look good in my opinion she is a small woman and that dress looks strange on her. That dress would look better on a taller and smaller busted woman.

I think Salma would look better wearing something without all that cleavage, like a strapless gown straight across the bust line. Anyways not a good look in my opinion but then I hate seeing big boobs spilling out of a dress, looks tacky.

    • Ethelreda says:

Those deep v-lines are very popular on the red carpet now, but imho they are unflattering on almost everyone. If, like Selma, you are busty, then your boobs look ‘squished’ and a bit vulgar. If you’ve got medium boobs, like say Jennifer Aniston, then they can end up looking a bit ‘spaniel ears’. And if you’re flat chested, like Lupita, who seems to love this neckline for some reason, all you can see is sternum. Never a good look.

At least this dress has a lot of support and a heavy fabric, so Selma imho is — just about – carrying it off without looking tacky. But generally speaking, this neckline is best avoided by just about everyone.

      +1

    • lucy2 says:

      I agree, it’s a gorgeous dress but it’s a bit too much.
      I like Poppy’s and Li Bingbing’s too.

    • lana86 says:

yeah, great colour and great figure, but vulgar, vulgar!

  8. Eleonor says:

I like Salma dress, but not with all that cleavage-showing, it makes an otherwise gorgeous gown kardashian-esque, sorry.

  9. Jayna says:

Salma has the most beautiful boobs. Love the color on her. Li’s gown is so beautiful. I also really love Poppy’s dress on her.

Charlotte’s Gucci on someone else would have been so striking. It doesn’t work on her.

Sienna’s ensemble is soooooo heavy looking on her for the summer and too much dark material on such a little frame.

Aishwarya, the color is absolutely stunning on her. I’m not a fan of the gown, though.

  10. paola says:

    That is one great rack.
    I have boobs envy now.

  11. Nikki says:

I always think too try hard when the boobs are on a platter in your face. It screams BOOBS and detracts from a total effect much as overdone jewelry. Not prudish, just never like this look unless it has more flair or whimsy to it.

  12. ¡mire usted! says:

Salma looks amazing! The dress is such a beautiful color on her.

  13. canadiangirl says:

I think charlotte casiraghi is an extremely beautiful woman.. I’ve seen other angles of her dress, and although it’s not my fave, she looks stunning.. she seems to wear whatever she’s in the mood for at the time. To be honest when your that lovely and natural anyone can look good… anyone else in that dress would be a hot mess.. (same goes for Ash, gorgeous but not my fave look)

    Just my thoughts ☺

  14. poppy says:

    just NO to sheer skirts.

  15. Lola says:

Did not like Eli Saab’s blue dress nor Sienna Miller’s … why all black? Is Cannes, it’s May! Color could be nice.
    The rest, I did like.
