George Clooney hasn’t thought about having kids, ‘it hasn’t been high on my list’

FFN_RIJ_TOMORROWLAND_050915_51735878

I feel like George Clooney is just one week away from referring to Amal as “the old ball & chain” and doing an old Don Rickles routine. That’s what it feels like, right? A shtick. Oh, haha, George Clooney is an old married man now, that’s so charming. Isn’t it nice that George is so happily married and he keeps talking about his lovely bride? Chuckle, elbow, etc. When in all honesty, I’ve never been more convinced that George went through all of this as an effort to rebrand his image. He had gotten to the point where his bachelor lifestyle was a punchline rather than an aspiration. So he changed the subject in a big way. In any case, George is still talking about Amal, obviously.

He was on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night. It may seem like we’ve already covered this stuff, but we haven’t. George is the one recycling his own quotes. It’s almost like his publicist handed him a sheet of cutesy quotes and easy stories to tell about married life. George told Kimmel that Amal hates that George wears the same t-shirt all the time: “There is that moment when I’ve worn the same T-shirt like for a week that she says, ‘Really?'” He also says Amal “hasn’t taken away” his motorcycle. Yet.

That interview is pretty meh. Not so meh? Clooney’s interview with Charlie Rose. I talked about the first clip yesterday (go here to read), which was Clooney talking about his proposal, of course. And since Charlie Rose is a real journalist (seriously), he totally asked Clooney about babies. When asked flat-out if he thinks about becoming a father, George said: “I haven’t really. I’ve thought about it I suppose, but I haven’t really – it hasn’t been high on my list, uh, I’ve been asked a lot lately because I’ve gotten married and I’m doing a movie with kids in it. You should see how creative the way they ask me.”

George also appears on a pre-taped episode of The Graham Norton Show, airing on Friday. He chatted about the country mansion he bought for Amal in England, saying: “We’ve bought a place in a wonderful little town called Sonning and we are re-doing the house so that we can live in it, which would be nice. We will move in in a couple of months.” George also said they “do normal things” at home, and they go out to the local pub, etc. George also explained how he ended up at the New York Comic-Con when he was supposed to be on his honeymoon:

“I got the call while on my honeymoon and was told it was really important that I fly in. First I had to explain that to my wife which didn’t play well. And then, the whole idea of spending part of your honeymoon with people dressed up like Captain Kirk and Star Wars’ characters somehow wasn’t easy to explain to my new bride. But, I showed up and it was actually fun.”

[From The Daily Mail]

He also described a long-standing prank he’s done on Brad Pitt. Apparently, Clooney had some stationary made with Brad’s name and everything, and George has been sending out letters to famous people AS Brad.

  1. Molls says:

I have never understood the attraction to this man.

    • Anne tommy says:

Me neither. And surely whether u want to have kids or not is a subject that should be talked about between partners Before u get married.

    • Esmom says:

I found him charming and hot in ER, but that was about the only time I felt that way about him.

      • lisa says:

i liked him on facts of life but i was a little girl so my judgment was not all that

      • Kitten says:

I had a huge crush on him when he was on Facts of Life and thought he was sexy as hell on ER. For me, it ended shortly after that.

      • Size Does Matter says:

I thought he was hot on ER, which rolled over into the Ocean’s movies. Stopped thinking that when his dating life became such a cliche.

Wonder if he’s been sending rentboys notes on his Brad Pitt stationery.

      • tracking says:

I agree. Somehow I never found him hot once he made the jump to movies. Same with Olivia Wilde.

      • PunkyMomma says:

I cried when he was killed on Sisters. And then he came back as Teddy’s ghost lover.

      • noway says:

I liked him with Sela Ward on Sisters.

      • tracking says:

Ooh, I forgot about him on Sisters. Loved him with Sela Ward, great fictional match.

    • bettyrose says:

Thank you! I’ve said that for, literally, decades. I didn’t dig him on Facts of Life, or Roseanne, or ER (by which point he was starting to look a little grandpa-ish) . . . and I’ve been called out so many times by his fan girls & boys in my life. I know a lesbian couple that rushes to his defense cuz he’s so dreamy? WTF kinda spell does he have over people?

    • Christin says:

I have always been very neutral about him. Yet lately there is a desperate smugness (as if those go together) that is off-putting.

      • Aussie girl says:

I too am completely over George’s need to ram his ‘love’, down our throats. It’s soooo OTT & we are chocking on it to the point of suspicion. George has never really done much for me but if I had to I would say, yes he is handsome. But lately I can’t help but think he looks yellow mixed with pale in colour. I suppose I’m trying to say he doesn’t look healthy.

      • Christin says:

He does look like he’s either in poor health (or under stress) or has had an aging spurt. Hopefully it’s not due to mixing meds and alcohol.

      • Lady D says:

An aging spurt? Because aging isn’t hard enough? Never heard of such a thing, and what a horrifying thought. Do aging spurts really exist?

      • Christin says:

Aging spurt is a term someone once used on here. I think it is when someone’s appearance ages suddenly and rapidly, yet then stays relatively the same for some time.

Not only have I seen this happen in others, I am going through it myself. My only consolation is to think it really is an aging spurt that will stop (eventually).

    • Dr.Funkenstein says:

LOL you and my wife. She says she thinks he looks like he smells.

    • Citresse says:

Generally, this guy is overrated. However, I did enjoy his performance in the film Michael Clayton.

  2. chaine says:

That is the MOST. BORING. PRANK. EVER. George, here’s my advice for a better prank, hire a rent boy and charge the bill to Brad Pitt’s credit card.

  3. Renee says:

George Clooney makes me roll my eyes but the Brad Pitt prank actually made me laugh.

  4. Kiddo says:

Why is he on a relationship promotional tour? I like Amal, but he seems positively dedicated to changing that.

    • paola says:

He’s still relentlessly trying to convince us all he’s not gay.
He knows that getting married isn’t a good excuse anymore. He needs to be head-over-heels-in- la-la-la-la-loveee at least on every inteview or magazine on the planet.

      • Ethelreda says:

But does he not understand that this massive over-sell is having precisely the opposite to the desired effect? It’s not just cynics like us who are not buying it. I’ve been – pleasantly – surprised to see that just about everyone thinks this is a farce, and every gushy interview just confirms them in their view. People who consider this a real marriage are given the same side eye as those who think John Travolta is straight. It’s that much of a joke.

      • nicole king says:

I agree with you, I always get the feeling he is embarresed by the gay rumours.

  5. Shambles says:

At least they’re finally asking the mens about the babies, too.

  6. Sara says:

I highly doubt if this was a 54 year old female newlywed, she would be asked about future children. Actually, she would be called selfish if she did want children at this age. Because apparently in our society, anything over 39 is considered geriatric.

    • Jessica says:

Well no, you wouldn’t ask a 54yr old woman about having babies because there’s such a minute chance it’s even a possible. It would be kind of a dick move to ask someone who you’re 99.9% sure can no longer have children, whether they want children.

    • Lisa says:

It’ s not necessarily possible with a man his age, even with ivf. A recent study of young women with 50 year old men found 80% were not pregnant a year later. Miscarriage rates are insanely high with men his age because of lower quality sperm.

Male fertility actually declines a lot like a woman’s , they just never researched it much until recently. Sperm quality is lower even by 35, making them less fertile. FYI.

      • Truthful says:

Excatly!! But very few people know about this , and well patriarchy is very careful in maintaining the false idea that men are fertile for ever…

    • Bess says:

Funny and true. On a serious note, a 54 year old woman who is healthy and active would certainly have the option to adopt a child too.

  7. paola says:

As an influential gay couple they shouldn’t have any problems in adopting.

  8. Esmom says:

I’m having a hard time focusing on the story because I am so fascinated with how utterly haggard he looks. When did this happen? It seems beyond normal aging.

    • paola says:

He looks in pain 99% of the time. In serious pain.

    • Ethelreda says:

He’s aged about a year for every month he’s been married. George has always looked mature for his age, but now he looks like an old man. Must be the strain of having to enthusiastically sell his fauxmance every hour and minute of the day.

      • PunkyMomma says:

Ethelreda – You said it better than I did – I share your sentiment.

      • wow says:

Ha! Completely agree with you, Ethelreda. You summed it up nicely. He is looking haggard. Beyond just getting older. Is he filming anything currently or is he just on his romance tour (lol) as some called?

      • Ethelreda says:

I’m not one to get at people for ageing – happens to all of us and anyway I’m not that much younger than Clooney myself. But he really has been looking awful since his Kardashian wedding. I hope he’s not ill and it’s just the self inflicted strain of lviing a spectacular lie. But let’s just say his heartthrob days are long gone.

    • Jenns says:

I agree. He does not look good and it has nothing to do with his age. I do think he is living with chronic pain and it’s clearly taking its toll.

    • PunkyMomma says:

I had the same reaction. He does not look well at all, and I imagine spewing forth this continual “I’m in bliss” routine adds to the weariness.

    • Kiddo says:

      Maybe he’s not well?

    • Jessica says:

He’s always looked significantly older than his age, and now he has to deal with chronic pain so bad that he’s said he used to seriously contemplate suicide. Considering that, I think he looks pretty good really. I know some people in their 20’s living with chronic pain, and they could easily pass for late 40’s. It takes a hell of a toll.

  9. Greek chic says:

George talking about Amal once again. Impressive.

Totally random but please write something about Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Its so sad.

    • Colette says:

      ? Did he die?

    • Miss M says:

What’s happened to JRM that is so sad?

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Did you read DM’s article on JRM today? Sad sad sad

    • Greek chic says:

He has a serious problem with alcohol. Look at the daily mail article, the pictures are heartbreaking.

    • Shambles says:

Oh, my god… I could weep. I was absolutely in love with him on The Tudors. Such beauty, such talent. And then this… Absolutely gut-wrenching to see.

      • PunkyMomma says:

He was so exquisite beautifully on The Tudors. I hope someone steps in to help him soon.

      • Ethelreda says:

I’m not sure anyone can do much to help in situations like this. First, he has to want to be helped and maybe he doesn’t want.

      • Jib says:

If someone doesn’t step in and intervene with JRM, he will die. That’s all I got.

  10. Tough Cookie says:

ugh, I feel like very soon he will be sharing his sperm count with us. Please stop talking, George.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

That prank was funny when Newman and Redford did it.

He told the same story about the house and pub on Norton and Letterman.

Disney must really wish he would talk about the movie they are paying him to promote

  12. wow says:

George, please sit down and just enjoy your marriage. Stop trying to sell us on it. A lot of us aren’t buying it. The more he goes on about her, the more annoying they both become and I hate that because I use to like George.

  13. Christin says:

Once again, isn’t he supposed to be promoting a movie*?

*Not this overhyped personal life production

  14. Ann says:

He is way too old to have kids.

    • FingerBinger says:

No he isn’t. There are men older than George having children.

      • Lady D says:

Doesn’t mean they are not too old. I really don’t agree with men in their 70s-80s, attending their child’s graduation ceremonies. It’s just not fair to the child, and lately, it seems like there are so many men who will be elders early in their child’s life.

      • Jib says:

My sister-in-law was about 35 when she married a 60 year old. He died a few years ago, leaving her a widow with a 13 year old child. I would never.

  15. Kara says:

for all the bragging about his marriage he seems to easily see a promotional appearance at Comic Con as more important than his honeymoon.

    • Nimbolicious says:

Yeah….that little reveal was pretty telling. Unless he was contractually obligated to appear at ComiCon in connection with promoting one of his projects. Still, though, I wonder…..

  16. boredblond says:

Note to Siri..surprised? Hehe. Recap: Clooney, vying for the coveted ‘ Most Unconvincing Salesperson’ award (in a dead heat with the Kardashians ‘natural beauty’ claims) has called out everyone who hides behind a fake identity on the internet, while he’s pretending to be brad p. in a childish prank. Begged to leave honeymoon? Odd..The filmmakers, interviewed live, said they were surprised by your unplanned visit. This constant barrage of George and his pr team trying to convince everyone to blindly buy his scenario started as ridiculous/funny. Now it’s seems he’s just trying to convince himself, to save face. It’s all rather sadly pathetic.

    • siri says:

Uhh…I was gasping in disbelief;-) It’s true, there’s nothing else to say but to call it sad, and pathetic. He truly sold his soul- and for what? He looks ill, in pain, desperately trying to damage control his failing PR, only to get deeper into the mud with every new interview. He could have a pick for a brilliant PR person here on this very forum, but he choose the self-proclaimed Elizabeth Taylor of the Arab world…Did anybody notice his parents are remarkably absent for a while? They used to accompany him to his premieres…boy, this is not going the way he planned.

      • Christin says:

Wonder if he has visited Kentucky since his nuptials? I have been wondering about where his roots / parents fall into line now.

      • Heathering says:

Haha, I lol’d so loudly at the bit about his “emergency” dash to ComicCon. So many on the Tomorrowland team commented at the time that they were surprised at his arrival and how “unnecessary” it seemed. Hugh Laurie certainly appeared to have thought it unexpected.

As Amal had already been sighted back in London almost immediately after Venice, makes you wonder who was actually dialling 911.

This is what happens when there isn’t one room big enough to keep the storyboards for this serialisation on full view. Plot-holes.

The Showrunners just aren’t keeping up.

      • siri says:

@Christin: I started wondering when he received his Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Globes and didn’t thank, or even mention his parents/family. That’s VERY unusual for George. In fact, it’s unusaul in general. Instead, he made that speech about his wife, and their love affair. Can you FORGET something like that? Or is he so involved in this fairytale script by now he doesn’t even notice? @Heathering is right, it DOES appear that at times, the leading actors in this sitcom are exhausted by the speed the script requires. Did the Mrs. join him in Shanghai, like he told an interviewer, without being asked? Up next is Tokyo…it’s The Fast and the Furious Clooney edition;-)

  17. bobslaw says:

Such a weird mish-mash interpretation of feminism. “My wife is brilliant, super talented and a hard working lawyer. But she’s also the old ball and chain, nags me constantly and hates my fashion choices.” Pick a lane.

  18. Blue says:

I really can’t see him and Amal having kids, as he has never really wanted kids and amal seems to really enjoy her jet setting lifestyle which isn’t really conducive to having kids, but you never know the next thing I will read is that they have adopted a Syrian orphan.

    • Tough Cookie says:

But if for some reason they do have a kid it will be the most wonderful perfect intelligent gorgeous child ever. All other children will be overshadowed forever.

  19. Suzanne says:

I never realized he had no top lip….and her ears are the same size as his! Man ears! Eweee…

  20. Jayna says:

They are newlyweds. I doubt it is high on the priority list. Have the time of your life as a couple in love. Having a child is a different dynamic when he/she first comes into your lives. The just focused on each other in love is a special time. Enjoy that before then the miracle of a child together and all the life changes that entails.

I think she will have a baby down the road. I remember her father making that toast about time for grandchildren or something. She obviously has never said, no, I don’t plan on having children.

  21. Guesto says:

This marriage should be sponsored by Carlsberg.

  22. JenniferJustice says:

Who marries someone without discussing if/when they want children? I don’t buy this. He’s just being protective of their personal life. I have to think he and Amal have had the “to child” or “not to child” discussion.

    • Ethelreda says:

”He’s just being protective of their personal life”

Are you joking? He’s been enthusiastically selling his personal life non-stop for the past year.

  23. Liberty says:

Kids: “You are not high on our lists either, mister.”

    • Christin says:

I have no idea how many kids are in this movie (because so little is being covered regarding the actual film), but I wish a snappy kid would say — ‘Dude, had you ever been kissed before?’

  24. Sofia says:

Is he blabbing about his marriage in many interviews or are media websites reproducing different parts of the same interview in different times? Because this is so OUT OF TOUCH I can’t really process it. Is he really talking about the same stuff in many different interviews? This is so the opposite of his approach with the media, Which brought him some level of respect even as a director, right? I don’t understand.

    • KellyBee says:

From my understanding these are many different interviews that he’s been talking about marriage.

  25. Tracy says:

George is really starting to show his age. He got married just in time. Now he has to keep her.

    • Jayna says:

He is showing his age. You google his old photos under images and he was so handsome back in the day.

  26. Jayna says:

I never knew George talked about his private dating life back when after a breakup. I’m shocked he was so laid back. And nice to see him so casual and kind of open for him and so different from all the leaks about his beloved, brilliant Amal.

George Clooney on Howard Stern 2000, back after he broke up with his three-year live-in girlfriend Celine Balitron, who was from France. I think the actress he mentioned he was dating was Renee Zellweger. He was so cute in this interview. Calm down, George, and be the old relaxed George like here, nothing to prove, and so funny about his career. I’ve never heard Robyn so perky and lively with a guest. Me thinks she had a crush.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7BQ8wnuKgw

  27. EN says:

If he wanted to have kids he would have by now. He just doesn’t want to come out and say it, probably.

    • tracking says:

Actually he has said it, many times. But people wonder if he’s changed his mind now that he’s remarried. That’s something he said for a long time he’d never do as well. People are allowed to change their minds.

      • Jib says:

Especially since he has married the Smartest and Most Wonderful Woman in the World!! How could they dare to waste her genes????

  28. nicole king says:

    cant stand him

  29. nicole king says:

i still think this whole marriage is to try to wipe out all those gay rumours about george, nothing will convince me that this is the great love story that he is trying to portray to the world he just doesnt sound natural everything that he says sounds so scripted i could’nt beleive how akward they looked together on the red carpet of tomorrowland at disneyland there was absolutely no warmth between them even the hand kiss was so fake

    • Bess says:

George is a gentleman, but also a jock who likes wearing T’s and watching sports. I say, Bring back chivalry! I would LOVE to be hand-kissed, publicly or privately.

  30. nicole says:

I dont think he is a gentleman at all. A gentleman does not make fun of people who have illnesses or tell people to there face they are 20 pounds overweight.
He likes to think he is the Cary Grant of his time but he has none of his acting talent or class.

    • Miss M says:

Exactly! That statement alone said so much about him…

    • siri says:

Agree. A gentleman also doesn’t make his last girlfriends appear as if they were just good-looking dummies. Yes, they all agreed to do the 2 year thing, yet it was him/his PR to act as if he finally found someone worthy of his grandeur- VERY bad taste. I think George is, and always has been, ACTING the smooth operator, but it never really is about others, but HIS IMAGE he wants the public to like. Fake in many ways, which also shows in his preference for tasteless, childish pranks towards his ‘friends’ that he proudly talks about with everyone willing to listen. ‘Class’ is something else. I sometimes wonder what his parents/sister think about all this.

  31. lisa2 says:

on some level.. SOME.. he is dammed if he does or doesn’t talk about Amal. If he never mentioned her then people would be saying.. why didn’t he talk about his marriage or wife. he must be over it. They are breaking up. Something is wrong. We see that with other celebs all the time. Why didn’t he talk about her. He is so over her. He is trying to escape her clutches.. She tricked him into this marriage/ relationship. Yes that would be the narrative. The problem is George is only talking about his wife/ marriage /life. All at the expense of the movie. All the quotes about him are about Amal and his marriage. I have yet to see one quote about the film. Nothing. And that is not going to help this film because no one seems to really know what it is about. I’m also shocked at the Promotion from Disney. They seem to be throwing the movie out. NO tie ins at all. With Maleficent they had some great gimmicks for the film. dolls, costumes, toys. There is nothing for this. They could have released some interesting cars or rockets or something. And What about the other cast. I haven’t seen much from them either.

I liked George during the Oceans movies. Mainly because I love his and Brad’s banter. I like the dynamic of the guys because they all see fun and like they had some secret they were keeping from the rest of us. Some private jokes. They were fun. After those I don’t care. George is always George. On and off camera. Nothing much different. I have seen only a handful of his movies outside the Oceans ones and again he is always George; just in a different outfit.

It will be interesting to see how Tomorrowland does. George has never really carried a big film to huge numbers on his name alone. And because he has been the face of this film its success or failure will be on him.

  32. LAK says:

This makes me sound like a bratty teeager, but my goodness he looks old.

  33. nicole says:

I agree with you Lisa. I think he just pushes it too much, he doesnt seem to know to pull back a little. He just comes off desperate and it makes people think it fake and over the top. I am also surprised he hasnt done any magazine articles like Vanity Fair or GQ or the like, not one magazine has had him on there cover. I would of thougth magazines would jump at the chance to interview him in print about his new wife and marriage but none of them seem to interested. I really think George needs this movie to be a big hit, but we will have to see.
