Bristol Palin avoided her canceled wedding-BBQ in Kentucky like it was the plague

bristol4

Bristol Palin was supposed to get married this holiday weekend. She was supposed to marry Dakota Meyer after a whirlwind courtship and engagement – reportedly, Bristol and Dakota met sometime late last year, got engaged in March and set the wedding date for May. It happened pretty fast – maybe too fast. Maybe it was so fast, Bristol only recently learned that Dakota had a brief starter marriage and his ex-wife has some issues about the way he treated her (and continues to treat her?). So, long story short, the wedding was canceled. We learned about that last week.

But there are still questions. What happened exactly? Did Bristol know about Dakota’s starter marriage? When did she know? Did Dakota learn something about the Palins? Was he too gun-happy around children? Did they call off the wedding because they were afraid of another Palin family brawl? One of the best questions was: why did Sarah Palin still insist that the two families were going to get together on the day of the now-canceled wedding to celebrate the couple? That question has particular importance because it looks like Bristol Palin didn’t even show up.

It looks like there was one very important person missing from Sarah Palin’s Memorial Day barbecue: daughter Bristol, who was supposed to get married this weekend. Bristol, 24, was set to wed U.S. Marine Dakota Meyer on Saturday but canceled the nuptials less than a week before the wedding was supposed to take place.

Onetime Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah, 51, told PEOPLE that the couple’s families would still gather at the would-be groom’s Kentucky farm – where the wedding was supposed to take place – to celebrate the holiday. But Bristol has been posting Instagrams of herself back home in Alaska.

[From People]

I’m including some of Bristol’s Instagrams below. She made sure people knew that she was nowhere near Kentucky, posting the photos with messages like “enjoying this beautiful weekend in AK.” She really wants to put the emphasis on the idea that she called off the wedding, that she wants no part of making it look like there are no hard feelings. It’s interesting. I would imagine there is A LOT more to this story besides “cold feet.” Oh, and there are Twitter photos from the BBQ and people are analyzing the heck out of one photo where it looks like Sarah Palin is yelling at Dakota – go here to see.

Here’s an interesting sidenote: the blonde woman in one of Bristol’s Alaska-roadtrip photos is Marina Lupas, described as an “exotic model/video vixen.” Um…

Wow. This ended quicker and more spectacularly than my wildest dreams. Well done!

  2. Greenieweenie says:

Wow she looks different from the chubby teenager she was on the campaign trail. Like a totally different face.

    • BritaBae says:

      Chubby? Don’t you mean pregnant?

And she bought herself that new face.

    • Becks says:

She had drastic plastic surgery, don’t ‘ cha know? She had a recessive chin with no definable jaw line that made it look like she had a double chin. That probably frustrated her that no matter how slim she could have gotten she would always look like she had a double chin.

I think the procedure she had was a jaw implant and reconstruction.

    • Lori says:

I can’t get past all the veneers in that first photo. Its like an advertisement for cosmetic dentistry.

  3. lucy2 says:

She probably got more plastic surgery and couldn’t risk damaging it in another Palin Family Brawl.
To be fair though, if I called off a wedding, I wouldn’t want to go hang out with the families that weekend either. But I wouldn’t add fuel to the media fire by posting photos.

    • Jules says:

The Palin’s are mediawhores, fanning the media fire is what they desperately live for.

    • Sunny says:

Yes. When my friend called off a wedding a whole group of us (bride included) purposely went out of town the weekend of what would have been the wedding, as did her parents. The distance was a nice distraction!

  4. NewWester says:

Bristol is certainly giving the middle finger to someone by posting those pics from Alaska. I can understand not wanting to go to the bbq and having to deal with questions and looks from the guests. But why not just hide away and be with your own thoughts.Instead she posts photos to Instagram? There is a lot more to this story

    • mia girl says:

My hunch is that the middle finger is pointed in the direction of one Sarah Palin.

  5. Becks says:

I clicked on the link. It looked like she was ordering one more beer for the road. Seriously, you can see how close they are standing to other people. People who seem to be paying them no attention, so I doubt she was dressing him down.

    • PrincessMe says:

      ^^ This ^^

I think if she was telling him off, the people around them would be looking at them – nobody looks concerned.

    • Ange says:

Yeah it doesn’t look like they’re fighting at all, she could be giving him directions for all we know.

I do love the whole ‘Sarah Palin dared to disrespect a MARINE!’ tweet. Ummm soldiers aren’t gods, they aren’t above reproach no matter how many medals they win. They deserve as much respect as the rest of us.

  6. jen2 says:

Don’t like to revel in other people’s misery, but this has been quite a week for the “we are better than you and we have family values” families. Bristol must have had a fight with her mother as I don’t understand why Sarah would still have the party if Bristol was not going to be there. The whole thing just seems so odd. She should have not gone through with what is a terrible charade in order to make it look so civilized.

    • Becks says:

I think with them cancelling less than a week before the wedding, all the plane tickets were already bought and paid for.

      • Dena says:

And as a reality TV star for small town republican family values, Sarah may have felt that (1) she had to brazen this out or (2) this situation could lead to something lucrative. Does she still have her exclusive pay per view channel?

    • GingerCrunch says:

All about appearances. They can’t help being the trash they are despite all the dialogue to the contrary. Ha!

    • Mixtape says:

I was wondering if they had a contract for some sort of media coverage of the event (i.e., reality show wedding special, etc.) and SP felt obligated to provide them with something. Regardless of the reason, Bristol did the right thing by backing out if it wasn’t right. Apparently SP is easier to stand up to thank Kris Jenner?

  7. Jayna says:

I so wanted you to cover this. It was so bizarre. Sarah says the wedding is off, but they will all be there together at the party. Hysterically, her daughter, you know, the bride, isn’t having any of Sarah’s phoniness and doesn’t follow the plot. She does not show up In Kentucky and makes it clear in her instagram photo.

But “exotic model”? What the …?

    • JenniferJustice says:

The last part of that sentence must have gotten lost in print. I’m pretty sure it was suppose to read as, “exotic model/video vixen for the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory.”

  8. grabbyhands says:

One can’t help but wonder if Sarah continuing to have the BBQ with the former in-laws to be is because she really wants her kid to marry this guy (sketchy background or no) because he is a bonafide ex-Marine/Medal of Honor winner that can be trotted out with her daughter at future political campaigns to show how ultra American patriotic she is.

    • Jules says:

      We have a winner.

    • Esmom says:

Could be. Although I gotta say I seriously hope there are no future political campaigns for Palin.

Good for Bristol for not going through with the wedding, for whatever reasons.

    • Shambles says:

I don’t know, I heard Sarah called off the wedding because Dakota refused to participate in a sacred Palin family ceremony in which one pledges their love to their partner while standing on top of a dog.

      😉

But really, I think you’re on to something here.

    • Christin says:

Bingo! This is my guess as well.

Who knows, the media stirred dust may settle and those two crazy kids will just be available to, ya know, come out and stand up for family values and all that good stuff. (The previous sentence is in Sarahnese and should be read in T. Fey voice.)

    • anne_000 says:

I think you’re right that Sarah thought this guy was an asset for her future in politics and/or her media career. She could have brought up his name every time she wanted to push a point, as if her patriotism was stronger and greater than others.

I don’t know why she thought the BBQ should have gone on. She should have just cancelled it. Did she want to keep playing nice with this guy on the hopes that Bristol would marry him some time in the future? Very pushy. Almost like a Kris Jenner, momager type of scheming.

I don’t know who broke up with whom, but it’s good that Bristol stayed away from both her mother and former fiance instead of caving in and doing what her mother wanted her to do. Time to cut the apron strings.

  9. RobN says:

Good for Bristol. I kind of feel like she stood up to the machine during this whole mess.

I almost made the big marriage mistake in my early 20’s under a lot of family pressure (his mother and mine were best friends and had been planning the wedding since toddler days), and it’s hard to raise your hand at the last moment and say no.

    • Ankhel says:

Mr. Darcy, is that you? ( Just kidding. Good thing you picked your own way.)

  10. lisa says:

i’m happy to see anyone call of their wedding if they have reservations, no shade

so many people go through with it because people expect it, it’s embarrassing etc

    • Esmom says:

Yes, exactly. I think it takes a lot of strength and courage to walk away.

    • JenniferJustice says:

Ironic to read this after the Stephanie March/Bobby Flay divorce mess. Stephanie should have marched when Flay put that pre-nup in front of her 3 days before their wedding, but alas, she caved and went through with the wedding, I’m sure against her better judgement, and now looked at what’s happening.

  11. esthetix says:

OMG, I cant get over how fake both their teeth look in the first pic!!! It was like there was a two for one deal and they used the same mold.

  12. mURPHY says:

It doesn’t really sound like a starter marriage, it sounded like a drunk vacation mistake.

  13. Steph O says:

I really, really dislike the Palin family and think they are as entitled as they are ignorant…BUT. I can’t hate on Bristol for canceling a wedding that she felt wasn’t right for whatever reason. That’s a really difficult thing to do. I think we all know people who have had doubts but went through with the wedding because they didn’t want to waste $, cause a fuss, etc.
In conclusion: they are all still the worst, but not because of the aborted wedding.

  14. Stephanie says:

I think Bristol’s facial plastic surgery has settled quite nicely. Good for her.

  15. lunchcoma says:

This is the first time since she was a pregnant teenager that I’ve sympathized with Bristol. I don’t blame her for cancelling her wedding if she had second thoughts, I don’t blame her for wanting no part of the celebrations, and I really don’t blame her for making it clear publicly that she isn’t participating in what’s probably her mother’s publicity stunt.

    • Jayna says:

I so agree. But why in the world is she on a roadtrip with an “exotic model, video vixen” for and posting it on instagram? I can’t believe people aren’t talking about that more since she is all about #conservativefamilyvalues. and so #judgy .

  16. Mltpsych says:

Her friend calls herself the Exotic Russian and has some nude a$$ shots on her Twitter. Go Family Values!!

  17. Mary says:

I like the video vixen’s shoes.
