Chelsea Handler is popular. Who knew? The mistress of E!’s Chelsea Lately just signed on to a really great contract. She’ll be on E! through 2012, and the contract is rumored to be worth “eight figures”. The contract also includes provisions for Chelsea’s own production company, and she’ll probably get another couple of books and a few E! specials out of it. Someone put the rumor out that Chelsea was being wooed by the networks, but I don’t really believe it. Reuters has more:
Late-night comic Chelsea Handler has signed a deal to extend her E! Entertainment show “Chelsea Lately” through 2012.
Under a sweeping pact with E! parent Comcast Entertainment, Handler also is establishing a production company, Borderline Amazing Prods., which will have a first look-deal with Comcast’s suite of cable networks.
“Chelsea Lately,” which launched in 2007, attracts more women aged 18 to 34 than broadcast rivals Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and Carson Daly. Sources say the contract is worth eight figures and that Handler had suitors from the broadcast networks.

Is it just a coincidence that Chelsea is living with Comcast CEO Ted Harbert and that she got such a sweet deal with E!/Comcast? More power to her, but let’s not pretend she’s the next Oprah or David Letterman. She’s a pretty blonde with a dirty mouth who just happens to be the boss’ girlfriend.
As if you couldn’t tell, I’m rather ambivalent about Chelsea. She’s not the best and she’s not the worst of celebrity commentary/entertainment. Sometimes she’s funny, but mostly she’s mean. Some celebrities deserve it, granted, but Chelsea just goes after everyone. Looks like we’re be seeing even more of her now!

I enjoy her show because she’s not shy about saying what’s on her mind, and even to the person face-to-face.
I don’t understand the “Chuy” situation but I quess everyone has a gimmick.
True, the deal might not have been so sweet if she wasn’t f*cking the boss, but she makes no secret of that she is.

Geez, there are a lot of Chelsea haters. I like Chelsea. To all the people who say she is only successful because of her boyfriend, well that’s not true. I read her books first, which were very witty and some parts made you laugh out loud. Also, anyone who knows Chelsea’s standup routines knows she is very self-depreciating. She isn’t malicious. She doesn’t just stand up there and make fun of other people, she also makes fun of herself. She would be a successful comic no matter who she was dating. Read her first book My Horizontal Life and then make judgements about her.

When you are sleeping with one of the men making the decisions it is not hard to understand the quick rise. Note how her show knocked E’News back 30 minutes. I bet Ryan is pissed to no end. She is funny and sometimes not. I actually like some of her staff guest better. She kisses ass to a select few and trash the celebs she knows will never be on her show. Funny uh..

Read her bio she got with him after her show was signed she met him at her party for the show ! Chelsea got her show and contract because she is a wickedly funny ! Chelsea is not funny at all!! I was always wondering how she even got her own show. Reading the comments here I see she is sleeping with the boss. That answers a lot for me…..she is cocky and literally NONE of her jokes are funny. On one show, SHE called Lou Diamond Phillips Diamond Lou Phillips and then proceeded to make fun of her own guest like he did it. Then she turns to the camera and says something about dyslexia. What a complete idiot…SHE was the one who said it wrong. She is always trying to dog her own guests like that, at their expense.

i’m sorry but Chelsea handler is not funny at all. she possesses no wit, no intelligence, nothing. There aren’t punchlines to her jokes. The only good thing about her show are the other comedians who really are quite talented and sharp and fresh. She is just a total retard. And by the way, while she’s calling people out for looking “horse-y” and being ugly, can we just state for the record that chelsea is way “horse’y'er” than even tori spelling? to be such a bitch about peopel’s looks, she better be drop dead gorgeous. if someone could lay into her the way she lays into others, she would drink herself to death.

Can’t understand anyone that finds Chelsea Lately funny. And it has nothing to do with her risky comments and topics. I’m a huge fan of QI and Mock the Week who also aren’t afraid to say it like it is. The difference is they can take a sensitive topic such as Gazza or gays and actually make it funny. She does come off with some potentially funny lines, however her lack of timing and work play just messes the whole thing up. What she reminds me of is the Drunk aunt at a wedding sitting in the corner making snid remarks about people

Saw Chelsea last night at the Paramount in Seattle. She was embarrassingly lame and just-not funny.What little material she did have, I had already heard. Not one thing was new-which could have been okay if her delivery had been good.
At times she just stood on stage and stared out into space like she didn’t know what to say next…or, when she couldn’t think of anything to say- she’d wander over to the edge of the stage and sign a book.
What a waste of time and money.

The show is good for a few chuckles, but she’s not hilarious by any stretch of the imagination. And anybody who thinks that people don’t like her because she’s “edgy” or a “potty mouth” must be a sheltered individual. Chelsea Handler is not edgy or shocking. Wow, a woman who speaks her mind, curses, and likes alcohol and sex! It’s almost like we aren’t living in the 40′s anymore!!

I have absolutely no idea what is funny or entertaining about Chelsea Handler. Her jokes are of the, “Come on! Am I right about this or what, folks?” variety with no punchline. As for being risque – are you serious? Because she drops an innuendo and sensationalizes her drinking habits? Howard Stern, Trey Parker, Seth McFarlane, Conan O’Brien – to name a few – have pushed the envelope much further and for longer than Chelsea Handler. The people who like Chelsea are uncomfortable when a man talks about boobs and farts, but find it just “hilarious” that this “pretty” woman would talk about them.
And for the record: Her panel and guests suck. Not sometimes but every time. Has she ever had anything more than a D-list hack celebrity on there?

I really don’t get it. She isn’t the least bit funny. It must be a generational thing–a friend at work who is her age (34-35) likes her. I am still not sure why. She has nothing to offer and the format of her show with those other morons talking back and forth (a la Howard Stern) is extremely irritating. Unlike Kathy Griffin, who is actually smart, witty and funny she trashes famous people, but it’s still not funny-when Kathy G does it–it is funny.

As you probably noticed by now, her type of humor is very divisive or polarizing. If what comes out of her mouth would have come out of the body of a fat, unattractive middle aged bald republican male, he would have been labeled as an unfunny inbred along with Rush Limbaugh or Elizabeth Hasselbeck. In a shallow media world based mostly on physical attraction, her act targets the young, angry, drooling males and the marginally educated or with low brow taste. The same shallow ones that give her a hard time on how badly she has aged. The rest has the IQ to see her for what she is, a high school educated ambitious angry media player.

When Handler first started the CHL show I thought she was unique and even a bit empowering to women. I became bored with her schtick about 3 months into her 1st go-round. Chewey then became the reason I continued to watch the show – albeit, sporadically. I guess I felt like I should support her efforts at breaking through the “glass ceiling” for female commediens. “Support your Sisters” and all that PC-ness. I actually recommended the show to friends & co-workers!
HOWEVER: NOW I’m pissed…REALLY pissed. Why, you ask? Here’s 2 GIANT reasons:
#1) As it turns out – she, (Ms. Handler) produced “Pretty Wild”. It was THE most gawd-awful piece of misogynistic child abuse & overt parental neglect ever recorded in the annals of human history. How could you, Chelsea? What happened to your life that would ever justify selling your soul to the money-devil for THAT tripe? How could you have hoped for success with that den of screaming freaks, spoiled sluts and phenominally stooopid thieves?
2) You had Khole and Lamar Odom on your show 2 months after their fake wedding. You said NOTHING to them about the obvious game they played with their fan’s loyalty. I’ve only recently learned that the whole wedding was another load of dung dumped all over their fan base (and yours, as well). I read of this mock wedding crap-fest whilst perusing an article about your intimate relationship with your boss (conveniently for you – the head of comcast).
And then – to frost this “stink cake” came the news of your working relationship with Mr. Seacrest, the producer of the K’s reality shows. No wonder you didn’t use your hot-seat to quiz the “newly-weds” – for the benefit of your audience (the fans who make your bank account possible). You couldn’t be the no-holds-barred interviewer because you would’ve been gnawing on the hands that feed you.
As it turns out – Chelsea Handler is just ANOTHER sell-out, Hollywood fame whore. She represents nothing and stands up for nothing. Trust me: I’ll be sure to pass it along.
