Yes, Bethenny turned the tables on Andy… and then promptly turned them back on herself becase of course she did.

  2. Kitten says:

    They’re remaking Point Break? Noooooo!!!

BTW, I saw Fury Road on Sunday and it was AMAZING.
Dessert Hardy was delectable and Charlize was the hottest ever.

    • Abbott says:

I loved Fury Road! I’ve been driving like Furiosa all week. I just need a flamethrowing guitar man.

Did you see it in 3D?

    • pamspam says:

It hasn’t tested well. I have an ex BF who is working on this (VFX/post) and he’s embarrassed. 🙁

      • TotallyBiased says:

pamspam–I’m going to presume you’re referring to Point Break, rather than MM:FR! 🙂 (Sorry about the ex’s reaction–my friends in the industry really hate it when they can’t be proud of a movie they worked on, even when the issues are completely unrelated to their contribution.)

      • pamspam says:

Yes – TotallyBiased – Point Break! Eh…he’s worked on a lot of flops and I know he’d like to get more A-list work, but given so much of the work has dried up and gone north to Vancouver, he’s lucky to have this project at all!

    • zinjojo says:

There is no reason to re-make the perfection that is Point Break!!! Young Keanu! Patrick Swayze! Stupid dialogue, hot guys — it’s the best.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’ve been spray painting my teeth silver all week!

      • Kitten says:

Ha ha…so much brilliance right? My friend keeps IGing pics of the concept art and every image is cooler than the next.

    • littlestar says:

Family and friends that have seen it have been raving about how good it was. I’m going to have to break my no theatre rule and go watch it soon.

    • J-G says:

That is exactly my thoughts. Leave Point Break alone.

    • msd says:

The thing that stands out for me in this trailer is the fake-looking CGI waves. Why not just go out and shoot big wave surfing? It’s not like it doesn’t exist. There are documentaries!

Contrast this with Mad Max Fury Road. There was CGI sure (the big dust storm, the Citadel) but the whole foundation of the film is practical effects. Real desert, real cars, real people, real crashes, real stunts, real jeopardy. Then CGI to clean things up, and create or composite the shots you can’t do practically. I think the audience’s tolerance of CGI is waning and Mad Max is pre-empting a real shift away from its overuse. Or at least I hope so.

Seems like a fine twist on a bank robbery movie – but why does it have to be Point Break?! Give them different names and go with it. I am not sure if I can watch it because I fell in love with PS in Point Break and even the trailer just made me feel nothing but sad. 🙁

  3. Samtha says:

    Who asked for this??

I couldn’t make it all the way through that trailer. Point Break is one of my favorite bad movies of all time, and this looks like a freaking mess.

    • Lilian says:

This is wrong on all levels.

    • iheartjacksparrow says:

Unfortunately, the only movies that seem to make the big bucks are sequels and re-boots. People keep screaming for movies that aren’t recycled from old ideas, but then basically no one goes to see the new stuff. So Hollywood goes back to sequels and re-boots.

  4. Jag says:

I won’t watch that trailer. It will be a blasphemy, no doubt.

    #TeamKeanuForever

  5. Miss M says:

    A Point break remake? Why?!

    • Samtha says:

They already did it with the first Fast and the Furious–except it was racing instead of surfing. This is so unnecessary.

      • lucy2 says:

This trailer totally looks like a F&F rip off too. Why not just write an original rip off instead of calling it Point Break and making fans of the original mad?

      • Miss M says:

I love F&F, at least the scenario was different and the cast of FF is very diverse…

        #keanuandswayzeforever

      • Miss M says:

@Lucy2: totally FF rip off. The rip off of the rip off… *Shakes head in disapproval (and no Keanu)*

  6. smcollins says:

I was just commenting about this lastnight on a FB page belong to. Whyyyyyyy do we need a Point Break remake?? The original was so bad that it’s awesome! One of my all-time favorite guilty pleasure movies. This is just wrong. So very wrong.

    • Alice says:

We don’t need it anymore than we needed a remake of Psycho or a remake of The Manchurian Candidate. Some things are just perfect the first time around. I can watch Point Break(the original) anytime and love it every time.

      • Nicolette says:

Exactly, why mess with it? Swayze and Reeves were so good and so hot. Honestly what’s with all the remakes? Leave well enough alone. I’m pissed they’ve redone Poltergeist which is a classic to me. I still get chills up my spine when the medium they bring in turns to Jobeth Williams and says “to Carol Ann is simply is another child. To us it is The Beast”. I’ll save my money and watch the originals.

  7. JLo says:

Mmm, Paul Bettany… A little disappointed to click on the article and find a picture of Andre 300 in costume instead.

  8. WinonaRyder says:

I also love the original Point Break. Keanu Reeves is one of the best bad actors around.

This remake looks stupid and dull.

    • Isabelle says:

Keanu movies are usually fun entertaining. He picks scripts well & love every minute of his bad acting.

  9. Dr.Funkenstein says:

I know I’m just wasting my breath, but is there some reason Hollywood can’t make an original film? What is with the constant stream of “remakes”, most of which are lousy imitations of the originals? I just don’t get it.

    • Lola says:

Lack of originality maybe?? Fresh out of ideas perhaps?? Not enough initiative to do something fresh and bold, could be??

    • manta says:

Because that’s the way Hollywood was built.I’m sure when speaking movies happened, there were some people complaining that stories had alread been told by the silent ones.
When color happened, same critics probably told it was pointless to re-tale what B&W already told.
Look at any post about Christian Bale, you’ll see a bunch of comments swooning over his Laurie (Little Women). Guess what, if Hollywood had been original and had passed the chance to make an umpteenth version of this story, he wouldn’t be their favorite Laurie.
Ask some people to name an iconic role of Pacino, chances are Tony Montana will be up there. Scarface had probably been already filmed at least twice before de Palma.
John Huston had trouble convincing producers for The Maltese Falcon (already adapted a couple of years prior to his version), I could go on.

So to answer you question, they do it because they can cash on it, because there’s always a new audience (potentially) and sometimes they can even make a good one.
In the case of Point Break, I imagine a not very expensive cast versus a largely distributed 3D version will do the trick financially.

      • Tiffany :) says:

This is largely true, even a lot of Shakespeare’s story lines were not original and taken from other texts. Repeating is the history of entertainment.

With Hollywood, I think it is mostly because of cost. Movies are being pirated at huge rates so they are looking to invest as little as possible where they can. If a studio has a vault of plot lines, titles and characters that they already own, business-wise it makes sense to recycle the assets that they have. With a completely original story, you have to pay the people that conceived it. Also, familiar titles and characters break through the noise to bring attention to a film. It can be hard to raise awareness, with a redo you are half way there.

  10. Amy says:

I wish you had featured the trailer that came out yesterday for The Diary of a Teenage Girl instead. It’s written and directed by a woman, and based on a graphic novel written/illustrated by a woman, and has amazing reviews. That needs more exposure than this Point Break ridiculousness.

    • lucy2 says:

I can’t wait to see that. All the reviews from Sundance were great, I like the cast, and it sounds like it was such a passion project for the director.

  11. Lola says:

Yes, true … there is no point in remaking Point Break … no point …but dam! Edgar Ramirez is like the juice! VERYFINE!!!!!!
Thank u 4 posting this trailer!

  12. Oobejabbawonka says:

Ugh I hate it: Cam Gigandet & Dominique Geisendorff are pregnant again. No, SHE is pregnant. Ugh ugh ugh. Just my opinion though 😀

  13. Jeanne says:

My first reaction was, why mess with perfection.

Then I watched the trailer. It seems very different from the original (they don’t just surf – they ski, too! 😉 ) But seriously, it does seem way different – there’s a Robin Hood angle there – they’re not stealing to use the money for themselves, they’ll trying to up-end the system, which I appreciate. And the new Keanu, although he can’t replace Keanu, is hot and seems to have Keanu’s monotonous delivery. Score!

Not sure I can buy anybody but Gary Busey as his partner, though. Utah, get me two!

  14. H says:

No to the Point Break remake. Why mess with a classically (bad) movie? No one can replace Keanu as Johnny Utah or Gary Busey as his partner. Not to mention Swayze’s Bodie. No more remakes!

  15. Boxy Lady says:

I’m glad Gerard Butler dropped out of the Point Break remake. I was mad at him for even considering it.

  16. Isabelle says:

Heck no would I go see a remake of Point Break. The number one nineties classic that should never ever be remade or even mentioned in another title. Don’t care if its a different plot, don’t even use the title. Keanu & Swayze for freaking sake, nothing could top it & it was directed by Kathyrn Bigelow. Hope it flops horrible & becomes a laughing stock of remakes.
