Katie Holmes: ‘I never used to wash my hair, now I like to wash it every day’

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes is promoting her Olay ambassadorship, which is a good fit for her gorgeous skin (as this new ad image shows). She’s done several interviews lately and always comes off calm and collected. There’s a running joke amongst some gossip bloggers that Katie isn’t the most interesting interview. She used her super exclusive People cover to rave about glitter and pancakes. Last week, she met with Yahoo’s Style Sessions to detail her sock obsession. After years under Tom Cruise’s thumb, I imagine she’s relieved to maintain normalcy. I get it (and still suspect she’s more interesting than she pretends to be).

Katie’s latest interviews include a talk with E! about how a Dawson’s Creek reunion wouldn’t work because the show “was of a certain time. It was pre-Internet. There was an innocence there.” She also spoke with Into the Gloss about hair and makeup. Katie admits doing her makeup in the car. I hope she doesn’t mean she applies it while driving. Nope, she had better not:

She likes low-maintenance makeup: “My schedule is pretty busy, so I’ve learned to do my makeup quickly because I prefer to sleep. I’ll wait until the very last minute to wake up and get ready in about 20 minutes. First thing, I drink about a liter of water … And in New York, I’ll actually wash my face more because I feel the city’s a dirtier place. Whereas in California, it’s very dry, so I actually drink more water and moisturize more when I’m there. I’ll do my makeup in the car sometimes. In the summertime, it’s all about putting the sunscreen on, then some mascara and maybe a light eyeshadow that’s in the same shade range as my lipstick–something really natural. Tom Ford has a good lipstick called Blush Nude … I do wear purple eyeliner instead of black. It makes my eyes look greener.”

Her hair habits have improved: “When I was a little girl–if I could have–I would have gone a year without washing my hair. I hated it, to the point where my sisters had to pay me to wash my hair. I think after experiencing that, I like to wash it every day.”

Her Met gala wig: “I put my hair in a wig for the Met gala this year, and people thought I actually cut it again, but no. Sometimes it’s tough with the internet–you’ll do something different and get dressed up just to get cut down because they don’t like your new haircut or something. But that’s probably a bigger problem. Either way, if I were to cut my hair again, I wouldn’t cut it so short that I couldn’t put it in a ponytail.”

[From Into the Gloss]

The internet really thought Katie chopped her hair off for the Met gala, which I didn’t understand. The new ‘do looked so costume-y and fake. That was the plan, right? The part about Katie not wanting to wash her hair as a child is gross but cute. Now she washes her hair every single day. Some people (not me) think that’s an overkill move.

I washed my hair every day till I was 22 as I’m so oily skinned. Everyone kept saying it was bad but my hair was always soft and silky and lovely. Then I moved to France for a year and the water is much harder there and I dried out a bit. Now I wash my hair once a week. It is such a time saver but I’d never have been able to do it without experiencing the dryer harder water. I use dry shampoo and my hair looks good and is thicker. Noone can ever tell I haven’t washed in a week.

I transitioned to every second day to every third and fourth day and then it was easy to wait a week.

    • INeedANap says:

OK, so dry shampoo still leaves my hair oily. Am I using it wrong? I spray or sift it on my roots and rub it into my scalp. Yay or nay?

      • Detritus says:

        You are doing it right.
You can try more but I found spray powders didnt work for me. Whatever the aerosol is ruined the effect of the powder, with the exception of B&B, which was too expensive for my frequent use.
I had a lot of luck with loose powder, Lush does a cheap effective one.

      • Sarah says:

Try spray it in and leave it to sit while you brush your teeth or put makeup on or whatever (leave for 10 mins), then try rub with your fingers into your scalp. Then get a brush and comb it through your hair. See if that works. Maybe try change brands too.

If you have really oily hair, it might be too far gone by the time you go to put it in. Try putting the dry shampoo in before you go to bed and then brush your hair in the morning and add a little more if you need to. That way, the oils absorb overnight and don’t overwhelm your hair. Best of luck! I loooove dry shampoo!!!! When I first started using it I got it wrong a bit but now it’s great

      • Chris says:

Maybe the brands you have tried don’t work on your hair. I have tried quite a few and for me personally Batiste works the best. They have an XXL Volume dry shampoo that I love.

      • Sarah says:

I love Batisse too but HATE that XXL one.. it absolutely mattes my hair! Major rats nest when using it. Also don’t like the smell of that one.

I love the original one and the cherry one and the coconut one. Yum!

      • FLORC says:

You might be doing it wrong.
I get the roots from about a 6inch distance. Just little spritz/blasts. Then A flurry in all of my hair in a flip/toss. That only takes a second and it’s to thicken/texturize.
It took me a while to find the right dry shampoo. They’re not all the same and some left my hair really greasy.

And I never rub into my scalp anymore. That did no good. Only made my hair look and feel oily again. Instead I do a quick brush.
        Hope this helps!

Outside of that I highly recommend Wen! It takes some time to figure out the process and is very pricey, but I use it here and there to repair. Hair overall reacted better in all conditions once it was treated with it.

      • Erinn says:

I have always had oily hair – if I want to skip a day of washing, I put the dry shampoo in before bed (I use the lush no drought powder stuff) and let it work its way in as I sleep. I apply it a bit heavy handed but not cakey. I find that seems to work best for me – but I had a matrix brand spray that I was able to use and almost always keep my hair down with. The lush one I end up pony tailing a good deal, though not always.

      • Suzanne says:

I love Suave dry shampoo – hella cheap and the best one i’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot!).

And @FLORC, I make my own Wen, which saves me a ton of money! I buy Mane N’ Tail conditioner and add my own essential oils. Just google “homemade wen” if you’re the DIY type :). It works just as well and is about a 1/10th of the cost!

      • FLORC says:

        Suzanne
I’ve used Mane N’ tail before. It’s actually pretty great, but hard to find as it isn’t always in stock. I’ll look into this. Wen is great, but so expensive it’s like a rehab for my hair.

    • kcarp says:

I wish I was brave enough to make the change. My hair is fine and it is oily. I feel like it is thinning so I am growing it out right now just to see how much hair i really have then make an assessment.

I am so boring to think this much about my hair.

      • Sarah says:

I have fine oily and fair hair too but I did it!
I have fine hair but lots of it and the less washing has lessened my hair breakage a lot meaning I have more hair. Dunno if others would have this same result.

      • Erinn says:

I have a simillar thing to Sarah – very fine hair, but a decent amount of it. Unfortunately, it’s pretty straight and kind of limp. But I have it a long way down my back anyway. Screw it. I’m happier with long hair. I used to HAVE to wash it daily – I’ve dropped down to every other with dry shampoo and hair styles to hide any oilyness. Most people don’t see it as being super oily, but I can tell, and I’m self conscious.

Have you tried the faux-poo thing? Baking soda and water to scrub (this will get rid of any left over gunk from product buildup – and you can use water and vinegar and water to soften. A summer or two ago I’d done that quite a bit in place of shampooing. I would occasionally do a quick scrub with a gentle shampoo at the end if I didn’t find it felt great. But after a few weeks my hair had the most body it had ever really had while still being long. Since I had oily hair to begin with – I didn’t fully cut out the shampooing. But this definitely at least gave my hair longer between shampooing.

      • boredblond says:

Going sulfate free seemed to help my hair –I do miss the suds though.

      • JenniferJustice says:

This is all very interesting. I have washed my hair every day all of my adult life and thought nothing of it. I have fine, pretty much straight hair, but alot of it. If I don’t wash it every day, it gets oily and won’t behave. Sometimes when we’re at the lake in the spring and summer I’ll let a day go by without washing it but only because it’s going to get wet from the lake anyway. I don’t notice any problems and it hasn’t thinned with age, but I’m going to try this everyother day regime some of you speak of and see if my hair changes in any way. I’m just curious.

      • lisa says:

i have fine oily hair too. i wash it once a week now, use dry shampoo in between. shampooing less has helped my hair and scalp so much.

    • Eme says:

Well, I had oily hair all my life and lately, probably due to coloring, it began to fall out more.

Recently I started using amla powder mixed with water once a week and then I wash my hair with a -nona free shampoo. I did it to stop the shreding but it has also dried out my hair a little. Now I only wash it once a week and it looks better than ever.

I am not one of those “everything natural is better” kind of people but amla has been a godsend. It is very cheap and it saves me a lot ot time!

    • pikny says:

my hair below shoulders thick..crap water pressure so wash every 30 or 40 days.doesnt smell and less hair damage.weird.use to wash every day..

  2. Josephine says:

She looks much better with the shorter hair with bangs. To me, she always looks like a closet slob. She gets a lot of coverage for someone who’s not working much these days, and not in high profile roles.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

You know, that’s an interesting point about the coverage. I wonder if she’s still riding on the sympathy from escaping Tom?

      • lisa says:

right or wrong, that’s what i think about both her and nicole

and i really am happy for anyone who gets away, even if nicole was dumped

    • magda says:

I get the impression that she’s working quite a lot but there are not high profile or even good quality projects. Now she is on the screens in Woman in Gold, I plan to see this film at the weekend

    • QQ says:

Exactly Josephine, I really don’t get the press and gossip’s circuit fascination with this girl and trying to make it happen just cause she was in a CW show, cause the rest of her Career has left much to be desired, she isn’t engaging, she dresses like a fool 69% of the time, she is a crappy actress and her singing voice makes bats cry and then some and she is Bland Like Oatmeal with water, not even milk or sugar. I think is almost a desire to cackle in Tom Cruise’s face that keeps her in the press, she won Us All in the divorce… Tom Got the Overseas public and the ability to keep doing his little Geriaction Movies ( Geriatric Action Films see; Neesam, Liam)

      • Josephine says:

Yeah, I certainly don’t hate her but you have to wonder how it is fair for one person to be handed so darn many opportunities and never really capitalize on any of them. I think she’s probably a nice enough person but she’s just not talented, or certainly not talented enough to garner so many opportunities.

      • Esmom says:

Josephine, you could be describing any number of people in Hollywood. Fame and celebrity is a strange thing, although I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that. 🙂

      • lisa says:

omg dresses like a fool 69% of the time has me laughing so hard, i think it is the randomness of the number

  3. Jessica says:

I don’t think she’s more interesting than she makes out. She’s always given a deathly dull interview, even when she was starting out and could have used some press. If that was a calculated move to stay private and mysterious, then she never would have gone near Cruise.

I remember the first interviews she gave after hooking up with him. People were freaking out about how weird she sounded, how she just kept repeating the same nothing statements over and over. But 3-4 months before that relationship happened I remember she had a big cover story for In Style, and the whole thing was made up entirely of gems like ‘I love cupcakes. Cupcakes are really nice. I really, really like cupcakes’ and then a whole lot of filler from the poor interviewer. That’s just how she is.

    • Jem says:

Your description of her pretty much explains why Tom was probably drawn to her. She’s pretty much an empty vessel isn’t she?

      • Aussie girl says:

        Agreed Jessica

      • Christin says:

That is probably how she ‘won’ his alleged auditions. Plus he was her teen crush.

      • JenniferJustice says:

I don’t like to call her or anybody an empty vessel. She was super young, way younger than he was, and she was somebody he thought he could mold. Evidentally she wasn’t that pliable because she fled both he and the COS. She has some integrity, priorities (her daughter), and alot of courage. She may have been young and niaive, possibly even easy to please as in not needing a lot of hoopla to be happy, but I don’t think she is dumb or empty. I actually find her endearing and her simplicity refreshing. She never went under the knife or got all weird about herself like many actresses do and considering her youth in the business, that actually impresses me. She also doesn’t seem to have one iota of pretention about her. I can’t help it – I find her charming.

      • mayamae says:

Pretentious: attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed.

Following that definition, I think she was pretentious when she decided to represent Suri as a fashion child prodigy – picking out all of Katie’s clothes since she was two. Katie couldn’t leave the home prior to a main event without Suri’s approval.

I also recall watching So You Think You Can Dance, and being forced to watch Katie Holmes sing and dance. That was her attempt at being a Broadway star. Then there was the design career that Tom Cruise attempted to buy her – Yang and Holmes.

Katie got a lot of goodwill for leaving Cruise, but she went into that relationship with her eyes open. CO$ has been known as an insane cult for more than a decade. She was in her late twenties when she married him. Prior to marrying him: the audition, the contract, the Oprah couch jumping incident, the “you’re glib” Matt Lauer interview, the attack on Brooke Shields for taking an anti-depressant for PPD, the silent birth, the eating the placenta, the leaving the newborn alone in a dark room, a 24/7 Scientology minder, etc. All of this preceded her marriage.

Like Jennifer Gardner, Katie was a nice girl from the Midwest. I’m a nice girl from the Midwest. We’re not idiots. We’re not incapable of recognizing insane cult maniacs, in fact we’re probably better at it. We tend to be straight forward, sensible, practical people. If she was blind, it was willfully.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        I agree, mayamae.

      • miss t says:

I get what you’re saying mayamae, but half of the things you mentioned are pure tabloid gossip. Contract? Where’s the proof? Leaving their baby alone in a dark room? Unless you lived with them, you have no idea that they did that. Anyway, I think it’s interesting that she’s always either portrayed as being this naive little victim OR she’s this cold calculating shrew. Personally, I don’t see her as either. I think she fell in love, got married, and for whatever reason, it didn’t work out. To me she’s no better or worse than the millions of other people get married and get divorced.

      • DottieDot says:

Jennifer Garner is from West Virginia not the Mid West.

    • bella says:

i respect your take on her, but i have a different one.
I remember her from several years ahead of TC.
she hosted SNL – she was great!
I saw her in another show….not sure if it was VH1 or MTV or some other where a celeb was profiled.
she went for a pedi…1st time.
      had a wardrobe makeover.
she was SO uncomfortable and said through the entire piece how out of place all the attention made her having grown up in the Midwest where vanity wasn’t fed…
I think she’s truly that uncomfortable whenever she’s interviewed.

and she was naively swept away by the TC thing not jaded enough to recognize his CRAZY.

anyone who could escape that can’t be a vacant vessel.
      she’s genius in my book.

      • Esmom says:

I don’t think she’s a genius by any means but I agree that she doesn’t have the savvy and hustle that others who aspire to fame seem to have. She’s might be extremely awkward but seems harmless enough.

  4. Maya says:

I totally understand about the hair wash thing – I hated washing my hair when I was younger too. Obviously I did it few times a week but not voluntarily.

These days I wash it every 3rd day because I have curly hair and it’s not good to wash it daily.

    • Kitten says:

Curly hair is tough like that. Mine tends to get really dry so I shampoo once a week and co-wash once or twice a week, depending.

      • Shambles says:

        Co-wash? My interested is piqued.

      • Nicolette says:

Co-wash? Never heard of that, please elaborate.

      • Erinn says:

Have you seen the new stuff Matrix put out? They have different cleansing conditioners for different hair types. I’m waiting for my fine hair one I had a hairdresser pick up for me. I’m kind of curious because I’ve never done the co-washing thing. But I find my ends have gotten a lot more dry lately, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt. I’ll probably just not go right up to my roots even though this one is cleansing, unless I try it when I don’t need to go anywhere.

      • QQ says:

Conditioner Wash: Co-Wash, Black women do that a lot cause shampoo it’s too harsh on kinky/curly already sorta dry fragile hair, conditioner technically has the same stuff as a shampoo minus the Detergent aspect of it

      • qwerty says:

I put lots of oil on my hair (almond, jojoba, coconut, whatever. I read even olive oil will d ) a few hours before washing. Some people sleep with oil in their hair even. It’s amazing for my hair and I find it strengthens its curl. Just have to wash it twice to get all the oil out or it looks bad the next day, I also avoid putting it on my scalp cause it makes it look flat/greasy after one day but I should probably do that sometimes, apparently it’s great for making it grow faster and thicker.

  5. Anastasia says:

I have extremely dry, color-treated, naturally coarse hair. If I washed my hair every day, it would probably break off.

And I agree, her wig at the Met looked very…wiggy.

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    My God, she’s boring.

  7. bettyrose says:

I have curly/frizzy hair that was huge and wild when I washed it daily. Every 3 days keeps it soft and manageable. It is a tad oily on that last day, though.

    • mayamae says:

I have some natural wave. I hate freshly washed hair – it’s prone to frizz. Second and third day hair is the best. My hair is dyed, but very healthy. I could wash daily, but it looks better if I wash it two or three times a week.

  8. Birdix says:

I have a kid who is like that–fits the character in The Pigeon needs a Bath so perfectly that the book totally offended her. Healthiest kid in school though-she’s never sick.

  9. keannir says:

Katie’s hair looks healthy and super shiny…wonder if she has grays…
I live in a subtropical climate and the humidity keeps me perspiring, so alas, I wash my hair daily. I color to cover my
grays and all the washing means coloring every other week. I really want to embrace the gray — “gray pride” a la Kristen McMenamy — but the way mine grows in is really unattractive.

    • GiGi says:

She does have gray hair – I remember a time when she had let the dye grow out a bit… maybe when Suri was small?

My hair is rapidly coming in white, so I stopped coloring it about 6 months ago so I wouldn’t have to grow out a skunk stripe eventually… I’m ok with it, because I’m pretty young. I feel like I’ll let it go white as long as it looks interesting… but then when I’m older I’ll probably go back to coloring it, lol!

    • Willa says:

Everything you wrote; the climate, the coloring, and embracing the grey, but grows out funky, is what I’m dealing with as well. I’m not alone!! Yay!

  10. eribra says:

I have a trick I do at work. When people start gossiping and trying to start drama, I start talking about my kids or dog. I swear I’ve even told people I do this but they don’t think it applies to them. I have a rep as being self absorbed- but not one about being a back stabbing gossiper which is the rep of 75% of my coworkers. This is how I see Katie. I’m sure she has opinions and interesting things to say but she had learned to keep things innocuous to protect her reputation.

    • Palar says:

That’s a good tip. I might try that. Thanks.

    • Hannah says:

Yeah, I think it’s a common thing for people to think you’re self absorbed if you’re not into gossip. How stupid.

    • Esmom says:

I tend to agree. That’s been my assessment of Jennifer Aniston, too. I know most people think she’s a vapid waste of space but I think she keeps it boring and predicable to deflect from anything deeper and to try to keep people minding their own business.

    • snowflake says:

exactly. I think she does that too. i think she’s a lot smarter than people assume she is.

  11. MrsBPitt says:

Sometimes, I look at pictures of Katie and think “wow, she is so beautiful”, and then I’ll see another picture and think “meh”….

  12. Hautie says:

I suspect Katie has not driven herself anywhere for years. That seems to be the one thing that she continues to maintain, from the marriage years. A driver and security guy. Cruise never drives himself anywhere…. unless there is a motorcycle involved with a camera crew to record it.

But I am inclined to believe it is an safety issue, since Katie manage to escape the Cult. As dull as she may appear. Dullards don’t escape the Cult. Then not have issues with the zealots for the rest of their life.

She has manage to stay quite about all the craziness. And I would not be surprised, if she did end up with a big fat settlement for herself. As long as she never trash talks Cruise or the idiots. She probably receives a big fat check. And her driver is thankful for the job. Even if she has issues carrying on a conversation with him. 🙂

    • TippyToes says:

Her settlement was established at the time of the pre nup, that is why the divorce was so quick, everything was settled as part of the pre nup

    • Bob Loblaw says:

Her attorney father extricated her, plain and simple, Co$ has legions of lawyers, they never want to tangle with other lawyers; she keeps calm and smiles through, Co$ plays reindeer games elsewhere.

  13. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I always wonder why celebs feel the need to share their gross hygiene habits with the world? Even when they talk about their childhood bad hygiene, which is completely understandable, because many children hate bath-time, it’s later decontextualized by the tabloids and the only thing some people remember is Katie Holmes has smelly hair.

I have an impression that many actors are more interesting than they pretend to be. The boring ones have an easier time with the tabloids, so it’s a very smart move to talk about socks and be left alone for those, who don’t seek fame. Another example – Carey Mulligan. She appears to be boring in interviews, but then the stories from friends, fans and co-workers show a completely different, fun person.

    • Pumpkin Pie says:

I wanted to say the same thing about celebs sharing their gross hygiene habits. Gross gross gross. Childhood habits or not.

  14. Lucy2 says:

For all the bullying, threats, and awful stuff said on line, I can’t help but roll my eyes a little when a celebrity says it’s tough online because people didn’t like her haircut (that wasn’t even a haircut). But beyond that, despite the dullness of the interview, I still find her likable and hope she is doing well. She looks really pretty in the picture with the red dress.

  15. MrsBPitt says:

Oh boy!!!!! Another celeb interview about hair and makeup…Maybe, Katie and Jennifer Anniston can do an interview together, so we can decide who is more boring!!!!

  16. Tifygodess says:

I never got the “don’t wash your hair everyday” thing. I have naturally curly hair that I blow dry and straighten every single day, get colored once a mth ( yup I’m high maintenance lol ) and I also wash it everyday (shampoo and condition) and only cut it once a year. I have people gush over my hair because it’s so strong and healthy. Im always asked what I’m doing to keep it in great condition. However If I don’t wash it , it gets frizzy and gross. So Maybe I’m just a weirdo (my stylist seems to think I must have magic unicorn hair haha) but I don’t think there’s just one rule on how to manage hair properly. I apparently do everything wrong -heat, color, wash…. but it works for me. I’ve seen some women with gorgeous hair that “break the rules”. I think women should just do what works for them.

    • Hautie says:

Raises hand to high maintenance hair too. ~ Natural curly, color treated, waist length hair… yep, I wash my hair daily.

I simply do not have two day hair. It needs to be pampered daily, to maintain the curls being bouncy. And it takes a lot of work… for it to look effortless. I love how people just assume that I just have to “wash and shake it out” to get the curls to look good. Not hardly.

But I chose to have all this hair. And I will do the work to have it.

      • Tifygodess says:

@hautie – omg yes!! When I wear my hair naturally curly people are like “oh that must be so easy! You are so lucky” I’m like bish please haha. It really is a process. Depending on the weather, how my hair feels like “acting” , how I dry it, how the sunrises 😉 …..will all depend how it comes out.

    • Nicolette says:

My hair is naturally curly/wavy and I used to wash it daily followed by blow drying and straightening and it was just too harsh and drying. Now I wash every 4-5 days, touch up with the straightener and blow drier for a couple of minutes and it feels so much better. Loving the argan oil products that have come out as well. Really helps to get rid of frizz, adds a lot of shine and softness. I also take some argan oil conditioner and run it through my hair before styling and leave it in which makes it even better and more resilient to the weather. Now instead of hating my hair I get complimented on it often. For me the day it’s washed it’s too clean if that makes sense, and I find it harder to style.

      • Tifygodess says:

I love Argan oil. I use a very small amount on my ends and I swear it works wonders.
I have a trick kind of like yours with the conditioner that I love. If you know you will be in the sun all day – like a beach day or whatever , leave the conditioner in instead of washing it out after your shower. Just slightly towel dry and let the sun naturally dry the conditioner in the hair. ( I just put my wet hair in a clip or messy bun ) later on after you are done with your day just wash it out. It’s like a cheap deep conditioning treatment “trick”. I swear there is something about “baking” it in that really leaves it soft and shiny. I can definitely see a different in my hair when I do it especially if I’ve been in the ocean or the pool.

@Tifygodess I do something similar, but with my workouts. I play roller derby, so wear a helmet in two-hour increments three times a week. On those days, I slather my hair in oil, put on a doo-rag, and my helmet. It’s like a portable hot oil treatment! And my hair comes out so soft, strong, and shiny after I’ve washed it.

    • shannon says:

Thank God I am not alone. I have hair that is on the thicker side and that is also very coarse. I also wash it every single day. I work out and can’t imagine just throwing some baby powder on my scalp afterwards. I’ve (internet) researched this and many dermotologists say that washing your hair every single day does absolutely no damage and that it’s just a myth to say otherwise. Now I can understand the hard water thing, or maybe even wanting to save your blowout for a few days, but I don’t understand people saying that it’s actually “bad” to wash your hair everyday.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

“internet dermatologists” are not a real thing, do what works for you but if your scalp has issues see a real dermatologist. My actual dermatologist told me to stop washing my hair so freaking much and my scalp and hair are much healthier because of it. I wash my hair twice a week.

I wash my hair often (Every 2 days usually) and it looks soft and shiny – great diet is a part of it I’m sure but I aslo think that washing daily is fine as long as you don’t use heat afterwards. I know people who get up every single day and wash their hair, then blow dry it and also iron sometimes, their hair only looks good when it’s all made up and with lots of product. Without it, it’s a frizzy mess. I never ever use hair dryer and can wash my hair daily and it’s fine.

  17. Barrett says:

Her hair looks dry in the beach wave pics. She needs to wash it at least every other day. Duh.

  18. RJ says:

Curly hair girl here. Apparently not all of us are made the same. I wash it every three days, but it gets so ridiculously oil at the scalp. The first dry shampoo I found that actually works is the Drybar Detox dry shampoo sold at Sephora.

Katie just isn’t an interesting interview. It’s the same way on a late-night show also.

I’ve never liked her nose job that she got when with Tom. It did something odd to the shape towards the end of it.

    Before and after.

    • JenniferJustice says:

That’s what they call a “pinched” style nose. Alot of celebs do that/want that. I’m bummed. I thought she was totally natural and I stated so further down the thread. I thought she was one of the few who hadn’t succumbed to the plastic surgery craze. I guess not.

      • mayamae says:

I think Sandra Bullock had the same thing.

      • qwerty says:

I think Sandra Bullock had much more, her nose was totally different before.

They probably tell them it looks bad on camera when your nose isn’t thin and tiny.

  20. Palar says:

As I’m getting older I’m finding my hair getting less oily at the same rate that my skin is getting dryer. One benefit of aging.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed. The older I get the less my hair needs washing. In fact I’d say my hair looks the best it ever has in my life. In fact I think if I’d had this hair as a teen in the 80s, I’d have had a lot less angst. About my hair at least!

  21. Mar says:

    She is sooooooo boring

  22. JudyK says:

This woman does nuttin’ for me…her hair looks dirty and greasey and like it has varmints crawlin’ around in it. But DO LOVE the jeans outfit, including the shoes.

  23. Hannah says:

I never washed my hair every day, usually 2 or 3 times a week. I really think it made my hair better. It also trained it so that it doesn’t get oily when I don’t wash it for a day. I could go 4 days without washing it (as long as I don’t workout or it doesn’t get dirty some other way, I live in the suburbs so there is less pollution) and it’ll still look amazing and shiny and silky. Can’t say enough good things about not washing your hair every day. Everywhere I go, my hair is something that I get complimented on the most.

    • littlestar says:

I was my hair every 4-7 days depending on how dirty it is from exercising, and I’m with you, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my hair. The last couple of days I put my hair up in a donut bun, so it looks good. My hair is less oily now, less damaged ends, less time spent on blow drying and heat styling it, etc.

  24. Jackson says:

    I love Katie.
    That is all.

    • Jenny says:

Me too, Jackson. Took a lot of strength and courage to break free of the scientology cult and Tom. Plus she’s gorgeous with gorgeous hair and amazing skin.

  25. Colette says:

I was wondering why there were so many comments on a Katie story. Now I see most of the comments are about washing hair and not Katie

  26. serena says:

The header photo is beauitful, I’m glad Katie is ‘back’. I mean, she may be boring but I enjoy reading her interviews.

  27. Christin says:

KH shills for Alterna. Therefore, she is not likely to say she washes her hair only once or twice a week.

    Cross-promotion at play.

  28. nic says:

    SHE IS SO BORING

  29. lila fowler says:

She’s pushing 40 and talking about childhood hair washing trauma like it was yesterday. Did she wash her hair as a teen? As a twentysomething? She’s so dumb.

  30. Sara says:

I’m kind of sad she doesn’t get papped so much anymore, she looks great!

  31. Diane says:

    This is news?

  32. Suzanne says:

Her face was so cockeyed when she talked in her one commercial…”I’ll take beauty into my own hands” that I mimicked her the first time I saw it…thinking THAT was not exactly the most appealing face to promote makeup. The next time I saw the same commercial..they’d cut out the part where she talked to the camera….and all you heard was the voice over. LOL Must be I wasn’t the only one who noticed how unbecoming it was to watch her speak.

    • pk says:

My husband noticed too Suzanne and he’s usually doesn’t give have much to say about celebrities.

  33. Delores Smile says:

Cunning? Or should I get a life ?

  34. qwerty says:

@Bedhead “The internet really thought Katie chopped her hair off for the Met gala, which I didn’t understand. ”

She wanted the internet to think that. She posted pics on instagram with her hair stylist “just before” the cut, holding a pair of scissors next to her ponytail. She only revealed it was a wig after the MET gala… I guess she thought it’d make headlines if she goes short
