Cressida Bonas plays coy, hopes no one will use her status as a royal ex-girlfriend

Cressida Bonas has a feature in the new issue of W Magazine. This ^^ is the cheekbone-tastic photo. I’ve always thought Cressy is a pretty girl, and it’s sad to think that someone so naturally attractive won’t be joining the royal family. The camera loves her. But as Cressy’s press coverage grows, so does her newfound fame and acting career, which means that she’s less and less likely to marry Prince Harry. I suspect she’s fine with that – her goal seems to be some kind of financial independence and a genuine career. She wasn’t about to waity around for the ring. Here are the two quotes from Cressida from W Magazine:

Her comfort on stage: “I’m much more confident performing than I am in social situations.”

She worries that producers might want to exploit her status as a former royal girlfriend: “I do have to be careful. But I have good intuition and great friends. They wouldn’t let me make such mistakes.”

[From W Magazine]

As I said, I like Cressida, but she’s being too cute by half if she thinks that her relationship with Harry didn’t launch her modeling and acting career. Before Harry, she was just Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe’s sister, and we only really knew Isabella’s name because Prince William tried to make Isabella his girlfriend back in the day. It’s silly to think that a random 26-year-old daughter of a former socialite would be able to suddenly launch a successful acting career out of nowhere. Of course Cressida used the interest in her relationship with Harry to build her career. Stop playing coy, Cressy.

I will give her this though – the whole “let’s hire a royal ex” thing wouldn’t have had legs if Cressida didn’t actually have some talent and a watchable quality. She’s currently starring in a one-woman show in London, An Evening With Lucien Freud, and the reviews have been fantastic. She really does have a future as an actress, apparently. I’m including some photos of Cressida (below) leaving the theater after her performances in the past week.

I find her bland when not made up and styled.

    • Linn says:

I think she’s cute when not made up, not drop dead gorgeous but very pretty.

And she does look very modelesque in the first picture. She often reminds me of Constance Jablonski.

    • Odd, I had the opposite feeling looking at the magazine photos: that she looked pretty and charming when not all “model-ized”, but like a clone indistinguishable from a zillion other thin leggy blonde hopefuls who show up in magazines, with lots of hair and hollowed out cheeks. The “model/actress” “look” typed her (perhaps accurately) in the slot she obviously wants to land, but deprived her of the softness and charm I saw in her pre-career push. Haven’t seen the acting so can’t comment on that. But it’s a shame that looking the part seems to mean losing who you are.

    • Pri says:

Totally agree, her sister (?) Gabriella Wilde is gorgeous and an actress as well, but was never this thirsty. The Thirst is Real!

      • Linn says:

I’ve read both halfsister and stepsister depending on what website. Definitely a gorgeous woman.

Also her full name is apparently Gabriella Zanna Vanessa Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe.
If I was her I would have used a different name for my acting/model career as well.

      • LAK says:

Linn: Gabrielle is a step sister. Gabrielle shares a father with Isabella. Meanwhile Isabella shares a mother with Cressida. Gabrielle has a different mother from Isabelle/Cressida. There is no blood relationship between Gabrielle and Cressida.

The parents married so many times to different people with whom they had children and or adopted already existing step children that it seems as if there is an endless supply of allthruster siblings and a chart to track who is related to who and how.

What I love about their parenting style is that the various full/half/step siblings seem to have been brought up together as a sort of big extended family such that they refer to each other as siblings without qualifiers of ‘step’, ‘half’ or ‘full’.

I think she is so naturally beautiful. Very pretty lady and aim glad she’s pursuing her goals. She has a degree from Leeds university and she’s pursuing her goals in the arts. I say good for her.
      You Go Cressida.
She has two other family members who are actresses so the family likes the arts that’s for sure.
Go for your goals Cressida. Ignore tha bashers. When all is said and done its her life,

  2. LAK says:

Suze is going to be very disappointed that there will be no more chapters in the royal allthrusters clan.

    • But Kate won’t . . . she lived in fear of a Harry/Cressida wedding. A much better born, blonde English rose who didn’t have to pile on three layers of makeup to put on the English rose look and whose sister William was once interested in was NOT Kate’s idea of a great Christmas gift.

  3. InvaderTak says:

She still seems like a user. Guess everyone is in a way, but she doesn’t even seem subtle about it.

    • It’s probably a given that any girl these two boys would have dated would have had a bit of that about her, given the high-end prize value. A real user would have played Kate’s game with William and held on doggedly for the “role” that she could have counted on for the rest of her life. All that said, I never thought Cressida the best match for Harry – she looks like she has about 20 IQ points on him.

  4. GlimmerBunny says:

I think she’s SO stunning. Cheekbones to die for and beautiful skin and hair.

  5. Eleonor says:

She is a cute girl, but the photo of the shoot shows how much hairbrushing, professional makeup and photoshop can do.

  6. lana86 says:

when people call her stunning, makes me wonder, do they live in the old people house? She’s young and cute, but I see prettier faces every day in a subway. Her hair and skin stunning??? lol, if the mere fact of having hair and skin makes u “stunning” -ok then.
She seems cool though, acting – good for her.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think beauty is very personal. It’s pointless to laugh at people who think someone is beautiful just because you don’t. That will always be the case, just as other people will find art or music beautiful that you consider bland.

      • lana86 says:

well, it’s one thing to say “i like her” and another thing to say – she has gorgeous skin and hear! The latter make me thing that if someone is so impressed with an ordinary, healthy girl, they might live among elderly people or something.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Who are these people you know who live solely among the elderly? Lol

    • bluhare says:

Right because old people can’t appreciate beauty.

    • HH says:

I don’t find her stunning either, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Unless it’s Gwyneth Paltrow topping the list of People’s Most Beautiful. I will NEVER get why that happened.

  7. MinnFinn says:

The top photo reminds me a little of 1960s photos of Twiggy.

Reviewers are raving about Chevrolet’s performance but there’s a long history of the un-talented receiving great paying jobs or other freebies only because of their royal connections. Case in point is Pippa. Her columns are SO boring and the most recent one I looked at (in Vanity Fair maybe) was so blase’ I didn’t even finish reading it.

PS I know her name is Cressida but in my mind she’s Chevrolet.

  8. Cricket says:

I don’t get the hate for her. She was beasties with Bea and Eugenie for years and in their circle so it’s not like a stalker, social climbing thing. I think she is cute in a quirky way and she and Harry looked cute together. It wasn’t a long term waiting game and clearly they both moved on.

I think she is much prettier than Isabella and if the acting thing fails she could be a hand model. She has beautiful skin and eyes too. The camera loves her.

  9. Stephanie says:

    I love her outfit.

    • MinnFinn says:

If you’re referring to the blue dress, then +1 for me. This is the best dressed up look I recall seeing on her. Which come to think of it I only recall two times where she was dressed up–pap photos of her in a long black dress with E & B and then a white dress she she wore for Mulberry at an LA event. The styling of those dresses wasn’t nearly as good as this.

  10. Bea says:

So interesting to see how her PR pushes her hard as a superb actress when there is literally one legitimate review out there. I can’t deny that she’s doing very well for someone who has literally no acting experience. But please don’t treat her as the ex of a prince please, she’s all making it happen just by herself … -sarcasm-

    • ican'tsnap says:

Right, she’s not exactly receiving “raves”. Unless you count Quentin Letts’ ass-kissing at the Daily Mail…
