Here’s my head-scratcher of the day: Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria-Parker was recently named TV’s sexiest woman by TV Guide. Not only do I think Eva Longoria is not the sexiest woman on television, I think she is the least sexy woman on her own show! Other sexy people on the list included Mad Men redheaded bombshell Christina Hendricks (who gets my vote), Without a Trace’s star Poppy Montgomery, and The Hills co-star Audrina Partridge. Sexy men include The Mentalist’s extremely yummy star Simon Baker, CSI hunk George Eads and Bones star David Boreanz. Of course, Eva got the big feature interview, in which she went on and on about how she doesn’t really think she’s sexy and blah, blah, blah.
The irony does not escape her. Eva Longoria Parker has landed on the cover of TV Guide’s Sexy Issue in a year when Desperate Housewives made her look as dumpy and schlumpy as possible.
“I think the timing for this is pretty funny, actually, but also really great,” says Longoria Parker, noting that her character, former fashion model Gabrielle Solis, was “put through the wringer this season and survived. I love that Gaby has been able to withstand time—along with the bad haircuts and all the extra pounds—and is still considered sexy.”
Or is Gaby—and, for that matter, Longoria Parker—even sexier now because of this humbling experience? When Housewives took its five-year leap into the future, most of the gals on Wisteria Lane had a new lease on life. Not Gaby. She’d lost her perfect figure, her ritzy lifestyle and her social standing, and found herself with two chubby brats chubby brats and a blind hubby who was earning chump change as a masseur. That’s when her true beauty kicked in. Gaby didn’t react to this reversal of fortune like the spoiled little bitch we know she can be. She toughened up, Scarlett O’Hara–style, and did what she had to do to get by, vanity be damned.
Longoria Parker can relate. The Texas-born actress, one of those stunners who swears she was an “ugly duckling” as a kid, says she “started out poor and frumpy and worked hard for my career, whereas Gaby did the same thing, only backwards.” She was relieved when her character finally gave up the mac and cheese and enrolled in a brutal boot camp to get back into shape “not because I wanted her to be glamorous again, but because I hated the hot, itchy fat suits,” the star says. “I kinda liked her plain, to tell you the truth—and I was in and out of the hair-and-makeup department so quickly! People say she’s now back to the old Gaby. But no, she’s not. She’s really the new, improved Gaby—more endearing and a much better woman as a result of her troubles.”
At 34, Longoria Parker is not worried about the passage of time. “I feel like every year I’m getting wiser and getting more experience under my belt,” she notes. “I rather enjoy aging, actually.” But then, it helps when you’re wed to a guy who prefers you uncoifed and sans makeup. “My husband [three-time NBA champ Tony Parker] thinks I’m at my sexiest the first thing in the morning. He says looking over at me as I’m waking up is his favorite thing—and how can a girl not love that?”
Sexy is one of those subjective qualities. Everyone has their own idea of what’s sexy- and Eva Longoria wouldn’t even be in my Top 10 list. What do you guys think – is she deserving of the title, or is TV Guide smoking the crack? And what about the sexy guys – should Simon Baker be at the top of the list, or is someone else even sexier?

TV Guide is read by George Castanza’s father and the creepy paper cutting guy. I’m sure they find Eva hot. Maybe the creepy guy will make a paper flower for Eva.

My co-worker dated her in the early ninety’s. He showed me some pictures of him and her, and I gotta say she looked sooo getto. I mean the cheap way to light for her skin color make-up and brown lip stick. I don’t understand why she’s this big thing in the entertainment business. She doesn’t deserve all the credit they give her. I’m not hating, I just think there are way more beautiful women out there.

When she first made it big, I thought the same thing, like, what’s the big deal with her. But after seeing how nice and congenial she is, how she handles herself, how classy she is, she’s like a breath of fresh air. I think Eva is gorgeous. And she’s a sweetheart. That’s what makes her beautiful to me…
And everyone has photos of makeup bombs they’d rather not show anyone, come on…ask anyone who grew up in the 80s.
