Emma Roberts & Evan Peters break up & end their toxic engagement

Evan Peters

Emma Roberts and Evan Peters squeaked in with a late-breaking Friday break up announcement. Emma and Evan were together for three years and got dramatically engaged in early 2014. The entire relationship was a mess, to put it mildly.

Let’s do a brief rundown. In July 2013, Emma was arrested for domestic violence after Canadian police determined she bit and punched Evan during an argument. He chose not to press charges. A source said the couple enjoyed a a “passionate” and “extreme” relationship. Things calmed down until last August when Emma and Evan had an explosive fight at a Comic-Con party. At the time, a friend admitted, “Their relationship isn’t healthy. They fight more than they get along and she has problems controlling her temper. She flips out at the drop of a hat.” Then a weird story came out that the couple alternately fought and made out on the American Horror Story set. We haven’t heard from Emma and Evan for awhile, but now they’re over. Just Jared broke the story:

Emma Roberts and Evan Peters have called off their engagement, sources exclusively tell JustJared.com.

“Their three years together just ran its course,” our source tells JJ. “They have so many great memories together but couldn’t make it work in the end. The break-up was amicable — there was no drama whatsoever. Emma and Evan are even still friends!”

Reps for both actors couldn’t be reached for comment.

Evan, 28, and Emma, 24, started dating in 2012 and got engaged over the Christmas holiday in 2014. The former couple starred together on two seasons of the FX series American Horror Story.

People magazine confirmed the split with a source who said, “They grew apart. They both had a lot of growing to do and it was better that they do it on their own.” Emma and Evan are both young. I rarely believe the “amicable” detail in any couple who splits, let alone one where a domestic violence arrest happened. But I’m glad these two are done. Emma seems like a pill, and she was terrible during her breakup with Chord Overstreet. Maybe she’ll stay single for awhile.

Here are pictures of Emma with Dave Franco on the set of their new movie, Nerve. I’ve heard buzzings that these two are hooking up. In 2011, Dave told Access Hollywood that Emma is a “very cool girl, very sweet girl, let’s leave it at that.” He denied dating her, but who knows.

    Good. That girl is toxic.
    She is her father’s daughter.
I hope she will have a therapy to learn to deal and unravel the violence inside her.

    • snusnud says:

What does that mean, what did Eric Roberts do?

      • CL says:

Maybe she meant “she’s her aunt’s niece”?

      • perplexed says:

        According to Wikipedia:

“In 1987, Roberts was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana, and resisting arrest after he tried to assault a New York police officer.[19] He spent 36 hours in jail, pleaded guilty to harassment, and had all other charges dropped.[20]

In February 1995, Roberts was arrested for shoving his wife, Eliza Garrett, into a wall.[19] He subsequently announced that he was giving up drug use entirely.[20]”

      • Michele says:

I agree the only thing Eric ever did was dare to be a star when Julia was a star. Julia ran his name in the mud. His charges were mild IMO.

    • Sherry says:

I have a feeling Emma Roberts will be toxic with whoever she’s with at the time.

      • Kosmos says:

Yes, she’s going to have ongoing issues in life and also with men. Men should take heed and not get involved with someone who has had anger issues to this extent. They need rehab and counseling. I checked out an older photo of her as a brunette and it seems like the brunette hair. which is more likely her real color, makes her look a lot more natural, gives her face some life, whereas the blonde might be washing her out too much…..

    • Talie says:

I think the whole family has their fair share of issues — Julia was a pill at the height of her fame, but it was covered up better. The media used to be more accommodating to movie stars.

    • ImFlying says:

The ‘industry’ is a toxic environment. From what I see of her father, Eric, has a very humble and repentant heart, and has been committed to his recovery from his past addiction and actions. He and his wife are very devoted and loving towards each other, from interviews that I have seen of them together. She has really stood by Eric during his recovery from drug abuse. People make mistakes and people grow. Her aunt is another story. She may not abuse drugs, but seems the needy, constant attention seeking former diva. Emma is in the machine and at an age where she needs to decide what kind of adult she will be.
(Sorry, I felt the need to stand up for Eric, despite his mistakes).

    • jinglebellsmell says:

Good for him. He dodged a bullet.

You can smell it on her: loco.

    • Michele says:

You mean she’s her Aunt’s niece???? Julia is a well-known brat in Hollywood. Just ask her co-stars and her current husband’s ex-wife about what she is capable of. Julia isn’t even nice to her own family. Emma is being like her aunt only at a time where nothing is hidden from the media and public due to the internet/24-7 awesome blogs like this!

  2. Dragonlady Sakura says:

That’s good news. The domestic violence in the relationship was unsettling, especially when it was dismissed out of hand when she was the aggressor. I hope they stay far away from each other.

    • Get off your high horse says:

Yup, a sad reality of our society that female perpetrators of domestic violence often get off lightly. Emma’s career has barely suffered. I guess that happens with some males too though, like Terence Howard who is doing better than ever.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Howard had a big empty period .He must thank Lee Daniels for his comeback

      • Bridget says:

Emma’s career hasnt really suffered because the only jobs she gets are through aunt Julia’s connections (oh hello Ryan Murphy).

  3. Lucy2 says:

That always seem like a very unhealthy relationship. I imagine the breakup was epic.

  4. kdlaf says:

Im so shocked that this story/relationship just flew under the radar – how was this not a bigger deal! It seemed like it didnt tarnish either of their careers…

  5. Christin says:

Finally. Hope they go their separate ways and don’t reconcile, because of how toxic this relationship seemed to be.

  6. Franca says:

I like him, he’s very talented and seems sweet in interviews.
I haven’t seen her in anything, but she’s stunning. That’s all I’ve got. Is she any good?

    • MG says:

No, she’s a terrible actress. I don know how she contines to get work.

      • MrsBPitt says:

This girl would be a NOBODY. if her Aunt wasn’t Julia Roberts…she can’t act her way out of a paper bag!

      • minx says:

She IS terrible. I can’t believe she still gets any work, famous relatives or not.

      • Kiki04 says:

I’m kinda hoping this means she won’t be on any more AHS…….she’s always the low point of every year IMO.

    • RocketMerry says:

He’s a very good actor, and rumored to be very professional as well. Also, seems like a sweet, good guy (purely an impression based on interviews and media dealings, though).
She, on the other hand… yeah, not so nice, not so talented, not so sweet. Let’s leave it at that, Dave Franco.
      Glad they’re done.

  7. launicaangelina says:

I have nothing to contribute to the story but have to say, those Adidas were my jam in high school and my 20s.

  8. Neelyo says:

Ugh. Her career was built entirely on nepotism. Doesn’t have the talents or the looks to justify the chances she keeps getting.

  9. FLORC says:

Good. And she can stay away from future AHS too since she has that Scream Queen series.

  10. tracking says:

    praise be.

  11. Ari says:

I thought Dave Franco was gay? Or did I just dream that up haha

  12. Jayna says:

When she was younger everybody thought she was going to be the next big as far as a young actress. It never happened.

  13. Audrey says:

    Good

It makes me sick to hear abuse called passion.

    Disgusting

  14. Abigail says:

Glad for Evan Peters, worried for Dave Franco.

  15. kc77 says:

Dave Franco is dating Allison Brie…he’s safe

  16. Seapharris7 says:

She seems like the controlling one In the relationship, so it would make more sense if she moved on. Maybe it’s not with Franco, or even anyone, maybe she just thinks her career is/will get bigger than his.

But I think he’s far more of a superior actor.

  17. bettyrose says:

Speaking from experience and observations, it’s pretty normal at 24 to latch onto a relationship that isn’t the right one, and try everything to mold it into the right one, which is impossible to do, resulting in frustration, anger, fights. Not excusing it. Just explaining it. At least they ended it. Sounds like Emma needs some single time to work on herself.

    • Nicole says:

No, she was hiting and biting him. That’s not normal and it’s not okay. Both her boyfriends listed here are, by all accounts, sweet young men handpicked for abuse by this girl. The time she needs to work on herself and be single has to come with a revelation that she is completely in the wrong and needs professional guidance and a serious will to change. Frankly, most abusers don’t take those steps and the nepotism and public support this girl gets is not doing her any favours.

      • bettyrose says:

Yeah, that’s pretty bad. And you’re right that if she suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder, she’s not likely to get help if she’s surrounded by enablers.

  18. Illyra says:

I remember the story about the “fight” (read: assault on him by her), and didn’t know who he was at the time.

    Glad their relationship is kaput.

  19. LAK says:

This is good news, even if it’s sad news. People who bring out violent tendencies in each other shouldn’t be in a relationship.

  20. WinonaRyder says:

No Dave! You can do so much better.

  21. RobN says:

I feel like she’s going to run through a lot of nice young men, all of whom think they’re going to fix her if they just love her enough.

My brother married a pretty young thing very much like her. Worst relationship I’ve ever witnessed up close.

  22. Grace says:

I never understood her appeal. She can’t act, she looks very ordinary, and she was the weakest link in AHS. Glad she and Evan finally broke up.

  23. laughing girl says:

    Like father like daughter

  24. Umila says:

I have no idea why I do not like James Franco. He’s probably the nicest person for all I know. I do love Evan Peters though and I wish him the best. Domestic abuse is disturbingly underreported.

    • writeitoff says:

From what I’ve read about James Franco, he’s creepy with young girls (i.e. dick pics) and by young I mean underage. I used to totally crush on him till I got all eww.

  25. perplexed says:

She didn’t seem to get the distinctive facial features of her father and aunt.

  26. The Original Mia says:

Good. I like him. Her? Not so much. She can’t act and truly believes she’s where she is based on her talent, and not nepotism. Gurl, please…

  27. Trinitay4u says:

I’m calling it now. She will take over Manisten’s spot.

  28. Octavia says:

Glad that Evan is away from her, I haven’t seen him in anything else but AHS and he’s great in it, especially the first season. I hope he gets more roles, he’s very talented. Emma’s acting is mediocre at best, though I thought she did a good job in AHS Coven. Either way, their relationship was toxic and I think it’s for the best that they’ve broken up.
