Benedict Cumberbatch & Sophie Hunter welcomed a baby boy

wenn21973186

FINALLY. The Cumberbaby is here. That was a long wait. That was, like, a royal-baby-level wait. The only thing shocking here is that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter welcomed… a BOY! I really thought it was going to be a girl, or an aquatic animal named Wanda. We still don’t know the name, but here is what People Magazine says:

This baby batch is fully cooked! Actor Benedict Cumberbatch is a first-time father after welcoming a son with his wife, Sophie Hunter, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.

“Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son,” the rep said in a statement. “We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during these next few precious weeks”

Two months after announcing their engagement, Cumberbatch’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE in January that the couple were starting a family together.

“I am delighted to confirm that Benedict and Sophie are expecting their first child,” his rep said at the time.

A baby on the way didn’t mean wedding plans were put on hold: The couple tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in Mottistone, located on the Isle of Wight in England.

[From People]

Hm, there’s no mention of when Sophie gave birth either. Do you think it was today or Friday? My guess? It was some time in the last week. Let’s say Sophie gave birth a week or so late (which happens a lot with first pregnancies), which means her due date was end of May. That means… she got knocked up in late August/early September. Which sounds about right. He waited until November 2014 to announce the engagement. I’m not judging, I’m just pointing out the timeline. Ah, well. I hope everyone is doing well. Now Bendy has his Cumberheir.

Guesses for the name? My guess is that it will include “Timothy” somewhere, that’s his dad’s name.

PS… It was confirmed last night that Benedict IS on the Queen’s Honors List and he will be receiving a CBE! He’s one of the youngest CBE recipients as far as actors/entertainers go.

    nothing much goes with cumberbatch

  2. Betti says:

Congrats – wonder when we will get to see him.

  3. BritaBae says:

I bet her tiny butt is excited to not be pregnant anymore…it looked like the pregnancy was a rough one for her.

Can’t wait to hear the name! I hope it’s formal and posh like daddy!

  4. NUTBALLS says:

Didn’t someone predict that this announcement would accompany the CBE one? I think they’ve been sitting on the baby news for at least a week. If she went to 42 weeks, Sophie has my sympathy. Curious as to what they’ll name him and agree that Timothy will likely be one of the names.

I think this confirms the early Sept conception theory and that they got engaged within 2-3 weeks of finding out about her pregnancy. Best of luck to them, they’re gonna need it to deal with the stress of a newborn as he goes into Hamlet rehearsals.

    • Betti says:

Yes – more than one poster if i recall.

Sounds like both mother and baby are fine – wonder when we’ll find out name etc..? Will he be promoting anything in the coming weeks? I can’t imagine he’ll talk about it until he has something to shill.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Frankly, I’d like to see him go dark until Hamlet, but I expect he’ll be shilling something and attending publicity events between now and then. Mr. Privacy can’t seem to lay low for long.

I don’t see how she will be doing much work over the next three months unless she has a wet nurse / nanny on the payroll.

      • PrettyBlueFox says:

This is incredibly cynical, but when I read that statement asking for “privacy during these next few precious weeks” my follow up thought was: but after these next few weeks publicity for both Hamlet and Mrs. C’s upcoming production gets rolling and all bets will be off. Maybe I’m underestimating them, though, and the baby actually being here will cause them to rediscover a love of privacy. That’s what I hope happens for them and their son.

      • Kelly says:

You know, I thought maybe they were sitting on it too, great PR move honestly, but I’d be surprised if the agencies had it and managed not to leak it for a week.

So now my guess is that the announcement was drafted and sent in advance so it could be released as soon as the baby was born, and the kid may have been actually born today or yesterday. Mid-September conception would mean mid June birth, so maybe the babe was a bit late.

      • Betti says:

@Kelly – i think his PR leaked the CBE announcement to hide the baby’s arrival with the plan announcing it after the CBE went public – great PR move. And yes i’m that cynical with him and his ‘privacy’.

      • Kelly says:

Considered that too, Betti, but the leak article had a distinct negative spin that set the tone for the other negative articles that followed.

A palace insider who is leaked Lenny Henry’s to the same paper, so my guess is someone upset about Cumberbatch getting it did really leak it.

Honors leak every year, it’s often right from the PM’s office from press, and he’s probably on the Tory shit list for backing that human rights act.

    • Dara says:

I’d be surprised if Timothy doesn’t make the cut (doesn’t she have a brother named Timothy too?). I wonder if Hunter will make into the line-up as well, or if they’ll go further back into her oh-so posh pedigree and dust off Seely or her mother’s maiden name. The Batchling will surely have more than 3 names – both Ben and his dad have 4. Isn’t that the minimum amount for the posh and semi-posh folk in the UK?

    • icerose says:

lucky timing as it will detract from some of tHe controversy about his early CBE

  5. Mary says:

The last picture of her near the flower seller’s stall– her jacket is too small, the dress/skirt is ill-fitting, her trainer booties aren’t even zipped up. She just kind of looks like she rolled out of bed, but still is cute looking (she is naturally cute?). Maybe she did. I don’t follow them so don’t know how often they get papped, or whether they “do the do” for pap shots. Is she always this casual when not on Red Carpet?
It’s kind of anti-Amal. IMHO Amal Clooney seems to upstage the actors on a RC. Sophie seems more normal.
She is very pretty in the RC shots, they both look beautiful in the red dress/white tux one.

    • Lilacflowers says:

That picture was taken within the last two weeks. Most women that pregnant usually are happy that they can find anything to wear.

      • Abbott says:

Id be happy to look like that and I’ve never been pregnant. She looked cute.

      • Dani says:

I think I lived in the same pair of leggings the last two weeks of my pregnancy. Like, I didn’t take them off.

  6. What'sUp says:

Done with all of this. Negative press about the CBE – then announce the 11 month pregnancy ended for positive spin. Can’t be mean to a new father now can we? He’s gone from just being a decent actor in my book into a bit of a famewhore. She was definitely pregnant, but the staging of it was all for publicity. Sickening.

  7. Kiddo says:

Aww, congrats on Comet Cumberbatch. Timothy is a nice name.

  8. Jezza says:

    Congratulate me…I’m a stepmom!!😝

  9. Lennox says:

Well. If they looked that tired and miserable before the baby was born, I can’t wait to see how grim-faced they’ll be now that they’re dealing with a screeching newborn.

  10. Cat says:

Hopefully BC had a paternity test done.

    • Hannah says:

      STAHP

I’m pro-snark, but a new baby is happy and healthy. Let’s just be thankful for that, okay? 🙂

      • Heartsease says:

Yes THANK YOU Hannah! I know this site is called CeleBITCHY but honestly it goes beyond sometimes. Congratulations to the happy couple 😀 xx

    • Navel Linty says:

Given how…er..distinctive he looks, I’m sure it’ll be apparent if the baby isn’t his.

      • hermia says:

SH looks very much like BC, they have almost the same features. Anyway, I don’t believe she’d be so stupid. She seems a very clever woman.

      • Sea Dragon says:

I notice this every time I look at them. The placement and proportions are so similar! I think it will be a beautiful child as a result.

  11. OhDear says:

Congrats to them on the baby and hope that the parents and whippersnapper are well.

  12. Bullseye says:

Sigh…I wish I was flower shopping with Butterscotch Crumblecakes.

  13. bread says:

    I wonder when they’ll divorce.
Shotgun marriages don’t tend to last. And taking care of a newborn while he’s rehearsing Hamlet in London and she’s directing something avant-garde in Northern Ireland can’t be easy for a new relationship. And then he’s going right into filming Dr. Strange after that.
But he finally has that child he always wanted. Let’s hope it’s all that he wished it to be.

    • Betti says:

I can’t get my head around that – its not as if they hadn’t seen it coming. I’m not a mother but newborns are very demanding and she will need time to recover from the birth. They clearly haven’t really thought about the impact. I feel for them and i hope that they have a lot of family around them for the next few months to help them get through it.

Sometimes shotgun marriages do work and i think this one might last quite a while – they seem to be similar types of people.

    • Carmen says:

My friend had a shotgun wedding and was blissfully happy with her husband for 20 years before he suddenly expired of a heart attack. She has been mourning him for 20 years since.

    • lisa2 says:

My goodness.. people have babies everyday. Some even survive and are able to work and manage taking care of their child and working too.

Such doom and gloom. I’m sure they will be just fine; like all the other Millions of men/women that have babies and demanding jobs.

    • Luca76 says:

Seriously it isn’t 1952 if he didn’t want to marry her there would be no scandal.

      • hermia says:

He said himself more than once that he’s an old soul…. maybe he dates from back in the 1800.

    • InvaderTak says:

I don’t know this for a fact, but I think my parents were a shotgun wedding. They married in Vegas kinda suddenly. They were together before as a couple but no one saw that coming apparently including their families. My mother had a miscarriage shortly after. My sister was born 13 months after their wedding. Hmmm…..
      30 years next anniversary.

      • hermia says:

Don’t mean to presume anything, but I don’t think either of your parents was a famous actor or a celebrity. Our lives are not like theirs.
This said, I believe their marriage will last also because of this (the kid/s). BC doesn’t seem the type who would leave the mother of his child/children.
        Now happiness, that’s a different thing….

    • Itsnotthatserious says:

      Wow…
A couple just had a baby and your first thought is when will they divorce?

    • K9 says:

People said the exact same thing about David Tennant and his wife. Shotgun marriage (moved in together shortly before she gave birth), he started back at work the next day, and spend most of the year and following years away on location filming. Yet they’re still married nearly 4 years on and she’s pregnant with their third baby.

Moral: you can’t tell what goes on in a marriage, and what works for a couple.

  14. lisa2 says:

Let me first WAVE to the lurkers who are waiting with baited breath to read what the people here are posting.. HELLO ALL.

Congrats to the couple and the arrival of their baby boy. Wishing them all the best.

    • jules74 says:

      *waves back*
Hello! I will resume my lurking now….

    • Tangiers Eve says:

That’s “bated breath”, as in “abated”, or held back. Unless you secretly DO agree there’s something ‘fishy’ here, Lisa2.

Names? Hunter S. (for ‘Seely’) Timson (see what I did there?) Cumberbatch. He’ll be a great writer but a junkie on the side. For behaviour foreshadowing, see Daddy in “Sherlock”, S3E3

  15. Lilacflowers says:

May the child have a long, happy, healthy life.

    • NUTBALLS says:

*raises a Comet Sophie to toast the Batchling*

    • wahine992 says:

@Lilacflowers – I agree. I can’t stand the parents at this point, but I wish the baby good health, good luck and much happiness. Welcome to the world, little one!

  16. Sullivan says:

    Mazel tov. He’ll be a cutie-pie.

  17. Carmen says:

Congratulations to the new parents! (Thought I’d better get that in before the Debbie Downers start crashing this thread.)

  18. Lisa says:

Congratulations. Hopefully everyone will wish them well.

  19. Green Is Good says:

I hoped she’d give birth to a cute lil’ Otterbatch!

  20. NewWester says:

I was just wondering when Sophie would have her baby.

  21. cailin_dana says:

Congratulations. I reckon Henry could be in the mix as both BCs grandfather and great granfather were called Henry

    • NUTBALLS says:

      I love the name Henry!

Timothy Henry Hunter Cumberbatch has a nice ring to it.

      • MBP says:

“…Hunter Cumberbatch” is ripe for Spoonerisms, unfortunately!

      • Dara says:

Harry Cumberbatch has all sorts of potential too! Seriously though, I am feeling unusually unsnarky today and so wish nothing but good things for the Batchling and his parents.

  22. PunkyMomma says:

Congrats to the Cumberbatches. A new baby is always a time to give thanks. No snark today. 🎉

  23. Abbott says:

    Yay! Baby is here!!!

*leaves gift basket and hits eject button*

  24. Margret says:

Does the Queen actually hand out the various awards personally at a ceremony ? How does this go?

  25. PrettyBlueFox says:

All babies should be so lucky as to come into the world healthy, with an extended group of family and friends to love them, and with such security regarding material needs. I hope this baby continues to grow in a happy, safe environment.

  26. The Original Mia says:

    Congratulations to the new parents!

  27. Viv says:

God, they just announced the birth of their first child. Can’t his (former?) fans go one day without tearing into them?

‘I wonder when they’ll divorce.’ Really?

‘Hope he gets a paternity test.’ If that’s your last desperate shot at this not being real, you need to get over it. He’s married. With a Kid. It’s happened.

As for thinking he’d wait to announce the birth to coincide with the CBE announcement, that’s beyond cynical.

I wish them the best, and I’m not even a fan of either of them.

    • RobN says:

He certainly managed to alienate a lot of people without doing very much. It does feel like an awful lot of cynical piling on during what ought to be a happy time.

Like you, I hope everybody is happy and healthy and not reading anything on the net.

    • hermia says:

Considering the People article was written days before but published only now, I think it’s not so far fetched to think they waited for it to coincide with the CBE. Maybe not him, but PR. Who knows at this point? I can’t still get around the fact that she looked 7-8 months in early March and had a baby 3 months later. It must have been a hard pregnancy.
Anyway, congrats to them; and to everybody who thinks this is not meant to last, I believe that last it will, because they seem very much alike.

    • Insomniac says:

Agree with everything (except that I am a fan of his). Hope the baby is healthy and that they’re happy, and I’m glad he really is getting that CBE.

    • Elisa the I. says:

      @Viv: well said!

    • oneshot says:

      lord, yes.

I’m no fan of this lizard or his pregnancy PR campaign (to be fair to him, it did not get quite as annoying as Portman in 2011) but some of the bile directed at the unfortunate woman who had the temerity to gestate his spawn, is really over the top here.

May the baby grow up happy and healthy, and hopefully they’ll be loving, involved parents who raise it well.

  28. K9 says:

Who has he alienated, apart from a handful of female stans on Tumblr who are butthurt that their fantasies of becoming Mrs Cumberbatch have been torpedoed? I know they like to claim that he’s ruined his career and reputation and that all his projects will fail, but there’s no actual evidence of that? Certainly all the projects they were certain would either crash and burn (eg Letters Live) or prove to be fake (the rumour he’d get a CBE) proved very successful.

    • ican'tsnap says:

This x1000. Honestly I feel sorry for the guy, he lucked into a truly crazy fanbase…

(I think he’s okay, he certainly has some talent, but I’m not really a fan.)

    • minx says:

He “alienated” some fans because he married someone who wasn’t them, evidently.
I don’t follow the guy at all. I think he’s, uh, strange looking–but a lot of people like him, I guess. Nice that they had a healthy baby.

      • lisa2 says:

This happens a lot. If the man ends up with someone some fans can’t picture him with, or if he makes life choices that are not inline with what they think he should. Or they think he should be with someone else. I can name several male stars that have gotten the exact same treatment from females. All because of the woman he is with. I’m not a fan of his. I don’t particularly find him attractive.. But I think he is very talented and I enjoy seeing him in some of his roles. But I find it sad all the theories and conspiracies that are going on.

buy I have seen all of this before and it still continues to this day. So get ready this has many many years to play out. And it never stops. And let me say.. these theories are tamed compared to some of the nasty things some others have said about different celebrities.

      • kai says:

what actors have gotten a similar treatment? Can’t think of any with that level of, uh, passion.

      • icerose says:

he is not even that well known out side his internet fandom

      • EN says:

        > what actors have gotten a similar treatment? Can’t think of any with that level of, uh, passion.

I know just one case, which is even worse – Robert Pattinson’s so-called “fans”.

      • K9 says:

The Robert Pattinson thing is so weird because the craziest fans are the ones who think he’s secretly married to Kirsten Stewart and that she’s given birth to his child, twice.

      • Madly says:

Man, the nannies are out in force today!

I don’t care who he married, but he alienated me with all his try, pretention, and mean things he said about his fans. Not everyone who dislikes him does so out of jealousy that he is with someone. Good grief, you do yourself a disservice thinking that.

Secondly, all the comments about divorce or lasting are hilarious. No one really knows. Only thing I know about is the temper tantrums she has had on the red carpet.

Thirdly, why is it a stretch that he waited to announce when having a baby? Famous people strategize this all the time and he has demonstrated again and again this year that he is not above it.

Third, he has about as much hair as Tom Hiddleston, no jealousy about the hair. I think he is jealous that Tom hasn’t had a shotgun marriage, if anything. BOOM.

      • David Person says:

        TL;DR, Madly.

I couldn’t pick Benedict Cumberbatch out of a line up, and frankly think he’s pretty weird looking. If you think it’s only other people in your fandom who are laughing at you, I have to disappoint you.

        There’s a reason F_W was so popular.

      • Lol says:

Madly, she’s never had a “temper tantrum” on the red carpet. That’s just a lie invented by the obsessed stans. There was about two seconds of video of her calmly walking away from him (v common on a red carpet where everyone’s every move is choreographed and they have an army of event handlers ordering them where to stand and move). Walking a few feet away from him became “storming away from him” which gradually turned into “temper tantrum.”

Oh and btw since logic obviously isn’t your strong point, “disliking someone” =/= obsessively monitoring someone’s every move and spending every day inventing lies and hate about their romantic partner in an attempt to prove the relationship is fake, miserable and destined to end soon.

      • Sally says:

IDK why anyone would even bothering visiting threads or running blogs on someone they don’t like to begin with just to be snide.

it’s like okay, great, you’re not a fan, but you are still pressed about some dude that doesn’t impact your life at all like his out there fanbase,

      • Madly says:

Lol @lol trying to be “above it”. Nice fail.

Yes, it was a temper tantrum. But you are free to deny it all you want to.

      • Lilly says:

in general, people are too pressed about this dude, negatively or positively

      • Timbuktu says:

        @Lol,
oh, come on, it may not have been a temper tantrum, but neither was it “calmly walking away from him”, let alone choreographed. It was clearly a statement, and an unexpected one, as evidenced by his facial expression and reaction, as well as his publicist’s.
Seriously, there’s a LOT you can blame the crazy fans for, if you must, but going to great length to deny something we’ve all seen with out own very eyes does not paint you to favorably, either.
Now, she may have had a legitimate reason to walk away (morning sickness?), but walk away she did.

    • YupYepYam says:

It’s not just butthurt fans. They join forces with the jealous fans of other actors and the “hate ’em but love to comment on ’em” brigade. Pretty much what made up the demographic of the 600+ cumberpost.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Seriously?

      • Jane says:

I don’t know if that’s true here, but it does happen. People get over-invested and they don’t even realize it.

      • YupYepYam says:

@lilacflowers well I don’t take comment section on a celeb gossip site seriously, but my commentis not a joke.

      • Elisa the I. says:

@Jane: over-invested describes it perfectly. Every time I’m reading Comet Sophie and stuff I’m just like “ugh, get over it!”. It was snarky-funny in the beginning, but now it’s just lame…

      • Lilacflowers says:

Your comment of “jealous fans of other actors” was NOT a joke? Why would fans of other actors be jealous of Benedict Cumberbatch having a baby?

      • YupYepYam says:

@lilacflowers Because the actor that they’re re a fans of don’t yet have a baby (or fame/accolades/attention/hair/own celebitchy writer who’s a fan thus keep posting about) like Benedict Cumberbatch have?

      • Lilacflowers says:

And they’re all 9 years old?

      • Catherine says:

Lilacflowers, not having a baby but because BC is higher profile, is getting more press and was nominated for an Oscar.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Jealous of his hair? Srsly? Eh ehehehehe…. you believe whatever gets you through the day, guys.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@TotallyBiased, mind if I stay close beside you? I’m getting scared.

      • TotallyBiased says:

It’s okay, @Lilacflowers–I know the safe word. [AND the Original Four’s bolthole (Yay Tesla!)] Those well-coded audioanimatronics won’t get you. 😀 /ShamelessPlugForTomorrowland

      • YupYepYam says:

Lol at some people flipping out over my hair jealousy comment. Relax, there’s this thing now called hair transplant. I’m sure any semi successful actor with receding hairline can afford it.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Laughed at it, yes. Puzzled at it, yes. Flipped out over it, no.

And I can’t imagine anyone being jealous of an actor having a baby.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Mark Strong, very little hair, undeniably sexy.
Patrick Stewart, no hair, very sexy
Ben Kingsley, sexy when he wants to be
Jason Statham, thinning hair, quite sexy
Jude Law, receding hairline able to impregnate a quarter of the world with a glance sexy

They’re all doing just fine without curls.

      • Jane says:

I’m more confused that people seem to think this never happens when it’s common. Bear in mind, this is all general because I don’t follow his threads enough to know if it’s happened here.

Fan A thinks their fave actors/shows/sports team are the best and gets annoyed when they perceive a peer/competitor taking a spotlight of any type anyway. Because that peer/competitor is not their fave, they may view them as lesser and therefore not deserving.

In reality, it’s all a matter of different opinion most of the time. More over-invested fans may have skewered perceptions without even being conscious of it.

      • TotallyBiased says:

@Lilacflowers !!! COME QUICKLY and tell me where y’all are hiding the GoT meltdown 😉
From what I’ve seen splashed all over the internet, tonight’s season finale was WAY MORE EPIC than even a Cumberdebate!

      • Lilacflowers says:

TotallyBiased! Peoplle are probably keening until a new thread is opened. EPIC! Stabby, stabby, stabby! Where is Ghost?

      • Solanaceae (Nighty) says:

        I just come here to laugh… Thanks ladies… You’re all hilarious…

      • delorb says:

        @YupYepYam,

You hit that nail squarely on the head. Some people doth protest too much. IMO, of course. Kudos for the hair comment. That one was delicious. LOL.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Nothing can top the Portman and Hathaway campaigns in terms of drawn-out obnoxiousness:
that’s just science. I wanted to check out the comments on THIS story and they’re … lively.

    • Timbuktu says:

Ehm, no one ever wanted/expected “Letters Live” to fail, in fact, most fans, even those who are not fans of his marriage, think it’s a rather neat project.
And CBE was not a “project”, and again, haven’t seen anyone rooting for him NOT to get it, some people just pointed out that leeks are usually not appreciated.

Many of the fans who do not dig his marriage are still going to see him in Hamlet. It is possible to separate the actor and the man, if you seem to be having trouble doing it, doesn’t mean everyone is.

  29. Miss M says:

Congrats to the Cumber royal family! I hope both baby and mom are fine!

  30. Naddie says:

I didn’t even know she was pregnant! When I read the headline, I thought she’s just found a pregnancy out. Or they’d adopted.

    • Colette says:

Really? This pregnancy has been analyzed, debated, discussed since January by some of his fans.
      Congrats to them

  31. Mary Carol says:

Rumor is he is dating a different blonde every night. How convenient he kept his bachelor pad and moved her down the street. A marriage of convenience from the start. How British upper class. He never said he loved her.

    • Just here says:

      LOL. You’re trolling.
And his declarations of love were hilariously over the top. LOL. Good times for good snark.

No snark today though. I think the parents are pretentious f*ckwits, but OH MY GOD I LOVE BABIES! Congrats and happiness for all! 😀 *raises a Comet Sophie*

(I can buy into the theory of these two waiting to make the announcement… probably for PR. I think she gave birth a couple of weeks ago, get the ‘settling in’ phase over with before announcing)

    • Carmen says:

Rumor also says Clooney and Amal are divorcing next week, Brad and Angie are breaking up for the umpteen-hundredth time, KStew and RPatz are expecting their second child together, and Jennifer Aniston is six months pregnant with triplets.

  32. Liberty says:

So, a friend in Italy wrote a couple of days ago that one of her acting buddies working on Ben Hur heard from his friends that the baby was born June 1. Guess there was a betting pool everyone is dying to cash in on.

(That’s a long chain of “he said that she said” to follow, sorry, and it may be worthless, but I thought I’d pass it along for fun!)

    • tsmiv2 says:

The June 1st birthdate was quietly tossed around tumblr last week. It didn’t get much traction, but I bet your ‘friend of a friend’ report is probably correct.

      • Pegasus says:

Yep. I believe this is true based on when People had the story ready to go. Also heard on tumblr it was a boy on June 1.

      • s says:

Tumblr is indeed a very reliable and sane source of info.

    • Tulip says:

June 1 would be such a nice birth date because the kid, when older, would be able to have a birthday party in good weather and while his friends were around (before summer holidays begin). I hope the betting went well-sounds like a fun group to work with.

Congratulations to the couple and their families!

    • NUTBALLS says:

June 1st would be about a week after the reported due date… that’s the most believable birth date I’ve heard. I’m going with that. Timing’s great from the weather standpoint — I loved having my kids just before summer break so I could enjoy getting outside with them during my maternity leave.

And if May 23rd due date is accurate, then speaking from experience that’s an early Sept conception. Not that it really matters… splitting hairs, really.

Speaking of someone else who played Hamlet… saw Ralph Fiennes in Man vs. Superman this weekend, thanks to NT Live. Laughed all the way through it and thought it would be a great role for Hiddleston one day. #shamelessthreadjack

    • Absolutely says:

I definitely think the kid was born a couple weeks ago. The announcement was nice and vague and they conveniently waited until he was getting some not so positive press.

  33. LAK says:

This felt like a really long pregnancy because of the frequent updates and comments.

    Mazel tov!!

  34. Andrea says:

I wonder what the psychics on the this board will say now? Will they last?

  35. MyLittlePony says:

Vgood! Learned only yesterday that Sophie is Jane Birkin’s niece which makes her Charlotte Gainsbourg’s cousin. No wonder they look so similar!

    • Anon says:

She is not Jane Birkin’s niece! All you need to do is check peerage/family tree! Jane Birkin is David Birkin’s aunt (his father Andrew is Jane’s brother), Gainsbourg is his cousin. Sophie is distantly related to Jane via marriage.

  36. lindy79 says:

Congrats to the new parents! Glad all are happy and healthy ☺

(Harry Cumberbatch is actually very nice)

  37. Pushkar says:

There are so many Harry’s though, very common name here, Henry not so much.

  38. iheartgossip says:

Good for them. Here’s to years and years of happiness and a growing family.

  39. Pegasus says:

Aye-yai-yai. Even the so called evolved ones can’t refrain from being judgmental and snarky about someone. Bottom line, I think she had this kid a couple of weeks ago. People originally had this piece ready to go on Monday afternoon. Maybe Team Batch thought they could bury the news under CBE news and whatever that royal parade was. Regardless, like Kaiser said, probably a late August conception. And you’d most likely realize you were late within a couple of weeks. It’s called ovulation. Doesn’t occur too far away from menstruation. Both sides of this “fandom” are a nutastic embarrassment. Doesn’t matter. A healthy, bouncing boy is here. And I wish him love and luck.

  40. Whatever says:

Just adding my two cents. I think she probably gave birth a couple of days/wk ago and they were sitting on the info. Then his PR saw how badly he was getting trashed in the press over the CBE and they decided to release the birth announcement to get some more positive PR going. Hopefully now he’ll be able to disappear for a few weeks while rehearsing Hamlet. But meh. I’m bored with these two.

As far as baby names – how about Cosmo(naut) Cumberbatch?

  41. TessD says:

Sophie looks so beautiful! They both look very glamorous and stylish, a good match.

  42. j says:

    congrats to them! 🙂

  43. Joanie says:

Well, it should take no time at all for Sophie to get back into shape, since she didn’t gain any weight at all during this ‘pregnancy.’

  44. delorb says:

Congrats to the happy couple and their new bundle of joy.

  45. . says:

chitwetel ejiofor got a CBE too(for 12 yrs a slave) happy for the both of them

  46. chantal says:

Gazillions comments on this man’s engagement and marriage, however his new baby boy coming to the world nothing. Wow! This man has very weird fans. I for one wish him joy with his boy.

    • Maggie says:

It is rather strange isn’t it Chantal.
I too wish them all the joy in the world with their new baby boy.
