Tom Hiddleston chats about his villainy in a behind-the-scenes Jaguar video

wenn22159690

Earlier this month, Jaguar revealed their newest commercial, which is once again in the theme of “It’s Good To Be Bad.” In the past year or so, Jaguar has done ads with British actors famous for playing villains, like Mark Strong, Ben Kingsley and Tom Hiddleston. In the latest ad, Strong and Kingsley are no more (having been killed by Hiddleston, likely with help from the Dragonflies and a very pretty jaguar) and Hiddleston is just bossing around his helper monkey, played by Nicholas Hoult. Here’s the ad again:

It’s a cute ad. And Jaguar knows what they’re doing by using Hoult and Hiddles – they’re really playing into the swoon-worthy element of two of the hottest young Brits. So it’s no surprise that Jaguar is milking this for all it’s worth. Jaguar released a behind-the-scenes video which features the first on-camera Hiddleston interview in, like, more than a year. It’s nice to hear his voice again!

Nice. Tommy always takes these things a bit too seriously, but since I’ve been missing him, I’m all for it. I’m surprised he didn’t mention Shakespeare’s great villains or how he based his Jaguar villain on Iago or something.

So, there you go. We’re definitely going to need MOAR HIDDLES to get us through the summer. Maybe he’ll show up somewhere with a girlfriend?

  1. Kiddo says:

    I hate cross-promotion.

    • Melody says:

I kind of love it. What bugs you about it?

      • Kiddo says:

Too many commercials and ads, in general.

      • Melody says:

Can’t argue with that. I was quietly hoping cross-promotion would result in fewer overall commercials, or less obvious ones. It’s tiring to be constantly advertised to.

  2. Lilacflowers says:

Tom fed Ben Kingsley to the Jaguar. We Dragonflys have Mark.

He didn’t mention Shakespeare’s villains in the “making of …” piece because Kingsley already did that in the first “Making of…”

  3. Abbott says:

Yeah, bit too serious. Like they’re filming Ben Hur… with villainous sweater vests.

    • emmet says:

“villainous sweater vests” BEST comment of the week!

    • Lilacflowers says:

The villainous sweater vests are bullet proof and contain parachutes

      • Abbott says:

Do they come with the Taylor Swift spelunking harness thing, too?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Absolutely not! Well, not on the outside. They have stunt harnesses discretely tailored inside so you still look smooth from the outside. Taylor’s is obviously a cheap knock-off. Tom and Nicholas would not be caught dead in such a contraption

    • Caitlin says:

+ 1, Abbott. Cheesy but not in a good way.

  4. Madly says:

We are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for tom stories. Kinda think he likes it that way.

  5. Beth No. 2 says:

I want a pet jaguar. What a GORGEOUS looking cat.

    Pet Hiddles optional. 😉

    • Lilacflowers says:

They’re my favorite animal, so sleek, powerful and gorgeous. But I want two: a black one and a beige one

      • Beth No. 2 says:

I didn’t know jaguars (the animals) come in beige! Speaking of cats, I once watched a documentary on lynxes and thought they were also stunning.

      • p'enny says:

do they come in orange? I am digging the retro orange feel for furnishings right now. I’d love to put Pet Hiddles in Orange. Might clash a bit with his tan, but he really does need to shake the blue for a bit, give us eye catching orange t-shirts.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Black and beige. Both have leopard print fur but you have to look really closely to see it on the black ones

@’penny, I wonder if he is color blind and sticks to those colors he can clearly distinguish and I don’t think Orange is really a good color for him

      • icerose says:

they are an endangered species in some places

    • Resnictem says:

My question is: Did Hiddles actually pet the jaguar?

      • NUTBALLS says:

Consensus is no. It was done on a green screen with a trainer.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Doubtful that magnificent cat was ever near that magnificent man. That isn’t his hand with the meat bowtie. Also, if he had worked with the jaguar, he probably would have mentioned how amazing it was to be with the animal during the making of… video.

  6. Amy Tennant says:

Both of those Jaguar commercials give me chills. In a good way.

  7. NUTBALLS says:

I want to be that Jag.

  8. Melody says:

Pretty sure if my husband hadn’t had Ben Kingsley eyes, we wouldn’t have married. Don’t tell him.

  9. InvaderTak says:

Ooo yay now I have something to watch when I get home and on Wi-Fi. Until then hooray for gratuitous tuxedo Tom.

  10. Kate says:

Well, it is summertime. Hiddles is famous for being seen in the company of female girlfriends/FWBs around this time every year. Who will it beeeeeeee?

    (Cue mystery music.)

    • p'enny says:

      cue battle drums…

    • InvaderTak says:

      I’m hoping for Lizzie.

      • Abbott says:

What about Gugu Mbatha-Raw? I looooove her.

      • p'enny says:

Lizzie is filming Cap 3 in Canada, so she maybe able to escape but it would be too obvious. It would be ‘look at us,’ we have a film coming out.

He will be on his own or with his sister, has she got married yet?

      • Dara says:

Don’t forget he’ll be headed to LA for the Monkey Movie later this summer – where Lizzie spends most her time when she’s not working. When does Cap3 finish filming? Quick, someone start staking out that farmer’s market she’s always photographed at. 📷 🌹

I think there is only the very tiniest of chances that this particular rumor is even remotely true, but there’s been such a gossip drought in Hiddles-land lately that I’m hanging on to it for dear life.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Gugu and the rest of the Jupiter Ascending cast may be in hiding.

      • p'enny says:

        monkey movie? Skull Island, lol.

Seems it’s going to be mostly Vietnam from the Director’s instagram feed.

      • Dara says:

@ p’enny, I’d agree with you except that Bob the Hawaii Movie Guy (or whatever the hell his name is) has said the same thing and I’m convinced he’s full of crap. My intuition says lots of studio work in LA with a few strategic days on location. Kauai is still at the top of my list for that part, but not entirely sure about that.

Am I the only one that wonders why effects-heavy movies even bother with real-world locations when they green screen and CGI even the most mundane shots beyond recognition. I remember being surprised that Thor2 actually filmed in Iceland. I honestly thought those scenes looked like a gravel pit in Barstow that had gotten spruced up in post-production.

    • koko says:

I have to, just have to….please let it be JARTHY!
      I miss her.

      • NUTBALLS says:

JARTHY’s my top pick for maximum meltdown on tumblr.

      • p'enny says:

if he get’s snapped with jarthy for third time in three years, in the month of June/july, and still declares he has nothing to write home about I will fall over with extreme laughter.

      • NUTBALLS says:

P’enny, if that happens I will be shaking my head wondering how little self-respect Jarthy has for herself to put up with that.

      • Absolutely says:

Oh please let it be jarthy so that awful tumblr that is run by a teenager pretending to be a grown up will explode into a million pieces covered in tears.

      • Kate says:

        Aughhhh NOOOOOOO

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Absolutely, what? But her impeccable, unimpeachable, non rebuttable sources said it was over and they would never lie to her! You must be confusing her with another nasty teenager pretending to be a grownup.

      • pixie-stix says:

Photos of TH/JArthy for the third time – yes, I’ll need a growler of some cheeky beverage and a nosh.

    • NUTBALLS says:

He’s due for a Wimbledon appearance and a holiday. Hmmm…

      • Savannah says:

I do believe he and Jane are dating, I think he just doesn’t want to be seen with her to protect their relationship and his career. Look at what happened to Sophie/Cumberbatch thing. People can be crazy.

      • Absolutely says:

I think they’re just **** buddies who meet up occasionally.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Well, I can’t speculate since he doesn’t tell me about the other women, but all I know is that I can’t be there for him every day. Someone’s gotta pick up the slack, so whether it’s Jarthy, Lizzy or someone else, let’s hope he’s not relying on his right hand to sleep peacefully through the night when I’m not there.

      • Valerie says:

There is a pic of her living the theater (where he was playing Coriolanus) with him. I think if they were just FWB she woudn’t be there with him. But of course it is just my opinion.

      • WaffleHour says:

        I agree with you, Savannah.

I understand the side that thinks FWB – after all, can you really have a “girlfriend” if you don’t stay in any given county more than a couple of months? But I do think they’re seeing each other when they can. And Bora Bora is evidence of that.

You don’t take a 24+ hour flight across the planet (quite literally) with somebody to an exorbitantly expensive island with nothing to do but lounge if you aren’t really fond of them.

      • Absolutely says:

You do when you’re rich. And I highly doubt they’re lounging 😉

      • WaffleHour says:

        ^ Fair points. 🙂

      • Dara says:

I’m still undecided about who invited whom and who paid for what. Maybe one of them won the grand prize at a church raffle and then realized they needed a +1.

I’m with y’all – serious or not, committed or not, you’d better be awfully fond of your traveling companion either way, or at the very least compatible travel mates. There really is not much to do once you’re there – aside from “lounging” 😘 in all its many forms. You and your roomie will be seeing a lot of each other.

      • koko says:

@ Dara, church raffle, funny. 🙂

@Savannah, I get what your saying, but a relationship, serious or not will not effect his career, only his popularity among some fans. They have known each other for 3 yrs., maybe longer and actors more famous than him, and there are many, don’t hide their SO.

@Nutballs, I don’t do Tumblr but the meltdown would be systematic and not just confined to that site. We’ve seen it here too.

  11. p'enny says:

lol the advert floating at the bottom of that picture was American Express for buying flights to Marrakesh. A bit late, he’s been and gone. love it.

  12. T. Fanty Fan says:

Need more Hoult for the summer also!

    • Lilacflowers says:

Are you TFanty or a fan of TFanty?

Agree. Hoult has been in two of these commercials now but in none of the “making of …” things. We need more of him

      • t.fanty says:

*big poofy cloud of green smoke, a swish of my cape and a flourish *

Behold. The true T.Fanty is here.

Bless TommyAnne. He’s putting a little polish on Jaguar. Cumby’s famewhoring cheapened the brand. And there’s nothing more entertaining than a SERIOUS Tommy.

      • j.eyre says:

Oh, I absolutely love your green smoke trick – I think it’s my favorite. Considering how many tricks you have, that’s quite the compliment.

The best part of SERIOUS TommyAnne is the little wrinkle over his nose that develops when he looks at us with disdain while we laugh at all his SERIOUSness. I have named that wrinkle Feste.

      • Miss M says:

@Lilac: you don’t know T. Fanty and T. Fanty fan are two different people? Sacrilege! Even moi, who was always running the secret missions in Thornfield and lost in the convos, know one from the other…

@fanty: i didn’t know you had this green smoke up your sleeve.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Let the par-tay begin!! Fanty, that was some entrance, I’m in awe.

I was just wishing upon a star on yesterday’s thread that the Thornfield ladies would return and entertain us and voila! here you are. Now where’s Sixer, EsCon and Eve? I suspect we’ll see Miss J soon.

My favorite line was “It’s thrilling to be back”. Only Tom will be thrilled to be in a car commercial and talk about it like it’s serious filmmaking. Bless.

      • EscapedConvent says:

Where is my cape? I was just re-filling it with smoke. Damn it, Fanty.

      • t.fanty says:

        Miss M,

I keep many things under my clothes. You should see what I keep up my skirt.

(I’ll give you a clue. It begins with C)

      • t.fanty says:

(And ends with “aptain America, you filthy girl.)

      • NUTBALLS says:

Fanty, Cap’n Sexy did look beefed up on set. Now we know who’s responsible for his diet and what he’s been ahem, eating.

      • Vesta says:

@t.fanty: Be careful with that C, or soon you’ll see skillful violinist fingers coming at you… playing pizzicato, fortissimo!

      • t.fanty says:

Violin fingers? That’s fine. You can get him when he’s in the mood to sing. Also, when he’s feeling philosophical. Between him, and Hiddles rhapsodizing to pond fowl, it’s enough to drive a girl (back) to gin.

      • TotallyBiased says:

No wonder Cap is so often smiling 😉

(Nothin’ WRONG with gin, is there? I’ve chosen gin over men, on occasion. Not often, admittedly.)

      • Dara says:

@Lilac – have you not seen this BTS video with young master Hoult?
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jByawrG-t30

For everyone else… can we not reference the violin fingers, like, ever again? Just thinking about it triggers my spontaneous gag reflex which makes it very hard to type coherently.

      • Vesta says:

@Dara: but, but… I thought this is the virtual support group for anyone traumatized by those, er, instrumental parts of the hand. It’s not easy to get over them 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Dara, thanks. I had not seen that.

      • icerose says:

@Dara The clip of the making of the commercial id even better than the commercial

    • Miss Jupitero says:

      Okay!
We are back to old times!

      THANK FUCKING GOD!

      • Miss M says:

        @T.Fanty: Yeah right… Last I saw him… Never mind…

@Escon: Voting for Trump?! I am lost in words… I cannot even continue the FrankenHiddles experiments.

@Miss Jupitero: Right?! I didn’t even need to create an antidote for Hiddlestoners and Cumberb&tches. It seems they came back to their cray senses, they jumped sinking ship and we returned here… *none of this description reflects gossip reality. All gossip characters and nicknames are fictional*

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Darling Miss M, there is so much effed up news going on right now, I am starved for light-heartedness. Bring the gin. These times call for gin. Gin and dragonflies.

Just wanted the video above. He’s soooooo very serious, isn’t he? But I just can’t tease him….

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Miss Jupitero, Colin Firth will bring you your gin momentarily, accompanied by dragonflies, butterflies, and fireflies. And a new Jaguar.

  13. Lucretia says:

Good lord, is that a MEAT BOW TIE? Kitty, kitty . . . .

  14. koko says:

As a born and raised East Coaster(USA), I love the way he says “Jaguar”. I wish it would come out of my mouth like that.

  15. TotallyBiased says:

Didn’t the behind the scenes vid appear in an earlier Tom post? Only to have the online links pulled by Jaguar? Well, hopefully they aren’t just teasing us this time, because I could watch–and listen!–to it over and over again!
Looks like Lilacflowers got Mark Strong out just in time; he’s far better suited to serving a spot of drinks from Colin (and providing high-security driving as needed) than to being fodder for a carnivore’s coup.

  16. Miss M says:

Well, well, well… Look who is here!
    👑

One wonders if Thornfield is open for visitors this season… Miss Jane?

    • j.eyre says:

Darling, Thornifield is always open; just like EsCon’s political views or Fanty’s knees.

    • icerose says:

my vote is for Luke to muddle up his PR commitments so we get the wrong response for each event -he does his Marvel spiel for Crimson Peak or the Night Manager instead-that should keep the Thornfield group happy

  17. seesittellsit says:

OMG Toddles would make the MOST fantastic Iago!

    • TotallyBiased says:

I can see that, but I don’t think he likes to ‘repeat productions/works.’ Think I read that somewhere. If he was in another Othello, as any character, there would be constant comparisons to his award-winning part. Plus comparisons of other cast members, unless he had at least Chwietal Ejiofor (sp?) along for the ride!

  18. Ava says:

His voice….swoon. He could be reading a cereal box and make it sound sexy!

  19. Izbeth says:

    Love his voice!

  20. TEE JAY says:

I’ve invited some of the abovementioned gentlemen to Pemberley this summer. Picnics and swimming in the pond are included.

  21. Leah says:

Last night I watched Unrelated and what a transformation from gawky cutie to elegant handsome daddy this one has done!

    • NUTBALLS says:

Oakley = gawky?? That wasn’t the impression I had. I was feeling all of Anna’s FEELS when I saw that movie.

As a side note, I was under the distinct impression that Oakley was closer to the real Tom than any of his other roles. 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

Definitely gawky. And he was playing younger than he was. Oakley had just started university. That was not a cougar situation of a middle-aged woman going after a younger man. That was a middle-aged woman going after a kid just out of high school.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Gawky = Nervously awkward and ungainly.

That was not Cocky Oakley and has nothing to do with his character’s age.

      • TotallyBiased says:

That was a high school stud teasing a middle-aged woman who should have known better than to think it was anything more than him flexing his sexual attraction/attention muscles. I can see the ‘attention focus’ aspect of Oakley being part of Tom’s personality as well–but as ever, I add this disclaimer: I DON’T KNOW HIM AND AM ONLY SPECULATING. There, think I shouted that loudly enough? 🙂

But wait half a mo’–‘elegant handsome *daddy*’????????? Where did THAT come from, Leah?????

      • Lilacflowers says:

“That was a high school stud teasing a middle-aged woman who should have known better than to think it was anything more than him flexing his sexual attraction/attention muscles.”

Exactly. And he only started flirting back when she clearly was positively drooling over him and following him around instead of going with his aunt, her friend. Up to that point, he was just a young college kid on vacation with extended family and their friends, checking out girls his own age with his cousin. She tried to cross too far over the line and he re-established the proper boundaries when he rejected her advances.

Joanna Hogg has said she wants to revisit the character. If she actually develops something with a plot, that might be interesting.

    • Anne tommy says:

Love Unrelated. My take on it was that Anna- great performance by Kathryn Worth- did not want to recognise that she had aged, was trying to deny that by hanging around with the kids, and in her loneliness made a very awkward and embarrassed “pass” at Oakley. I did not see her as a predator. He had “led her on” to some extent but I agree was just testing his charms on an unthreatening target ( who was vunerable). I really felt for her. I think he realised her feelings for him, and enjoyed the power. but I do not “blame” him either. That’s enough amateur psychoanalysis….

      • icerose says:

my take as well-and some emotional issues with his father which added the twist.I never felt she went after him -more that her lack of children in many ways but a barrier between her and the other adults an she was searching for a place on the group that made her happier and Oakley picked up on this as wel

    • Leah says:

@TotallyBiased You know, “Daddy” as in in charge, sexy, slightly scruffy older male (he is 2 years older than me). For better or worse, that term has seeped into my brain from the “mature” Hiddleston fan fiction I’ve been reading. It is difficult to find Tom fan fiction with old fashioned regular sex; somebody always ends up in bondage! LOL!

    • icerose says:

I loved the manipulative sexy Oakley on second viewing but I also saw it first came out and he barely registered with me -it was all about Kathryn Worth

  22. Madly says:

It saddens me that I have to go to the cesspool of imdb to get the latest photos. The posters there are nuts. There is one who thinks Tom is gay just because he wears scarves and because he smoked in a movie that MUST mean he smokes in real life. That poster writes the longest posts completely out of touch with reality. I can’t event get through them.

    • Hannah says:

To be fair to imdb, pretty much all the other posters there have called the one you refer to out on her crazy repeatedly.

    • et alors says:

Madly, Torrilla has been posting photos on her Weibo account (weibo.com/torrilla). It’s the Chinese version of Twitter so I assume you won’t be able to read much of it, but she’s posting photos like she did when she had her Tumblr account. I think most of the TNM set photos were posted to her Weibo first.

    • P'enny says:

@madly heh! i am a regular IMBD poster, well was. i am called Luvejordie…. not really. She is mad as a bag of frogs. But, most of us are quite normal.

      🙂

  23. Nephelim says:

    It´s bad to be good.
You always have to walk and/or use public transport
and the only feline you get is a stray cat…

Maybe I should turn to the dark side of the force

  24. Josa says:

Two Tom posts in 1 week!!!
    I like him serious.

  25. et alors says:

The hatmakers for ISTL say the film will be released the day after Thanksgiving, with the trailer coming out around Labor Day weekend.

    http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?79038-Buckaroo-Hatters-I-Saw-The-Light-movie-news/page12

    • NUTBALLS says:

Thanks for this! I assumed/read it would be released during December, so Thanksgiving weekend is perfect. Can’t believe we still have to wait until Labor Day to get a trailer.

Then again, after seeing 4 or 5 different trailers for CP, I feel like I may have already seen the movie. *sigh*

    • TotallyBiased says:

I have trouble accepting this (as much as I would like to) because it seems so unlikely that any movie would open the day *after* Thanksgiving. It is a HUGE movie-going day!

    • WaffleHour says:

Huh. Why is the president of an entire subsidiary branch of Sony on the phone with the Hat Guys? Wouldn’t a costume designer be more likely to give him a call? And why are the Hat Guys getting post-production updates before they’re finalized? Those must’ve been some damn fine hats!

    • icerose says:

      sounds good

  26. Me & Myself says:

“You don’t take a 24+ hour flight across the planet (quite literally) with somebody to an exorbitantly expensive island with nothing to do but lounge if you aren’t really fond of them.” – WaffleHour

Just my opinion, but I think the trip to Bora Bora was Jane’s idea. She probably hoped for a marriage proposal at the end of their holidays, after all a lot of people go to Bora Bora for their honeymoon. I think in Tom’s eyes, Jane was just a convenient f#ck buddy but I bet she wanted to be more than that.

    • WaffleHour says:

That’s as valid a theory as any. And if you’re right…well, I can’t blame a gal for trying. Plus, she got a helluva vacation out it! 🙂

    • NUTBALLS says:

M&M – I could buy into the idea that Jarthy wanted more from the relationship than Hiddles did — that’s the way it usually works between the sexes. But I don’t think she had the power in that affair; he would have called the shots and established the ground rules imo.

When you work as much as Tom does, a trip to Boring Boring is probably an ideal way to relax and veg, especially if you have the financial means to holiday there.

      • Dara says:

I’m not sure Tom strikes me as the ‘relax and veg’ type… unless he’s so exhausted he can’t see straight, which is possible given his usual work schedule.

Bora Bora looks like a gorgeous place, but it is a long-ass way to go for just a relaxing vacation.

      • jammypants says:

He did say in an interview that after filming Thor, MiP, War Horse, and TDS in one year, he went home and “slept for two weeks”. Boy can veg.

      • Dara says:

@jammy – my definition of veg is staring at the ocean all day from my shaded lounge chair and occasionally waving my hand in the air to summon a tropical beverage. I guess what I’m saying is that I consider it a voluntary state, something one chooses to do. Collapsing from exhaustion at the end of a monster year doesn’t sound like fun at all, and it can be done anywhere – no need to travel halfway around the world to sleep in a bed that’s costing you a thousand dollars a day for the privilege.

    • Absolutely says:

You can be fond of a fwb. I just don’t see this as a serious relationship, it’s been, what, around 2 years or so? And he doesn’t seem any more serious about it than when it first came out? It sounds like a convenient casual relationship for him while he’s bouncing around the world working like a dog.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Not all women want the same things out of life or out of relationships and neither one of them has spoken about the other so everything from everyone is just pure conjecture.

      • jammypants says:

Pretty much. People talk like they know him and JA, their motivations, or relationship haha

      • Absolutely says:

Nope, just having funsies speculating and gossiping….

      • NUTBALLS says:

        *sigh*

        Absolutely, Absolutely.

Is it just me or does it seem like every time we gossip and speculate that we have to be reminded that we don’t know the people we’re gossiping and speculating about? No one’s claiming to know anything about Tom and Jane. It’s all just harmless fun, putting reasons to what little we see. It’s interesting to get people’s different takes on the same situation.

Every opinion on his relationships shouldn’t have to be prefaced with a disclaimer.

      • Absolutely says:

Word, nutballs. Or course we don’t KNOW him. I thought that was a given? We’re just having fun here.
        🙂

      • Josa says:

I don’t understand why people are so fond of dissecting his everything and making all kind of speculation and assumption of his everything. It’s a bit overly investing in someone not related to oneself if you ask me. Why is it fun to assume and then based on their assumption proceed to judge. Example: “We saw 2 pictures of him and her in 2 different years, so he’s been hiding Jane for 2 years, therefore he’s an a**hole, and it’s the truth because I believe it”. This kind of passtime makes people happy? okay then.

I like him because he is a great actor and watching his works makes me happy, watching him makes me happy too because he’s handsome and great to look at. That’s really all I know and all I care to know. He should have any kind of casual or serious relationship with whoever he wants to, just like everyone else who reside on this planet.

      • Absolutely says:

Well then don’t talk about anything other than his work if that’s all you care to do. No one is forcing you to take part in any other conversation.
Why do we dissect Brangelina? Anniston/Theroux? Kim/kanye? Why is the very top of the first page of this site about Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig’s marriage trouble?
        THIS IS A GOSSIP SITE!

      • NUTBALLS says:

I second that. It’s a gossip site, so a celebrity’s personal life are topics of conversation. In addition, we talk about their work as well as hot button topics of the day. And we make silly conversations around our fantasy affairs with our favorites. No one needs to participate in the threads they’re not interested in. I’m sure there’s websites solely dedicated to an actor’s work, but this isn’t one of them.

I generally enjoy your comments Lilac, Jammy and Josa, but I wish the condescension and gossip-shaming would stop. I don’t see this sort of thing happening on other actor’s threads but see it all the time on Tom and Ben’s threads and it’s unnecessary.

      • Josa says:

“No one is forcing you to take part in any other conversation”…by the same token, you don’t need to take part in my conversation where I express my opinion, but you did anyway.

      • Absolutely says:

Errrr…I’m not the one saying we should only be talking about certain topics. I have no problem being involved in most conversations. And when I don’t care, I just don’t comment. Pretty simple, eh?

@nutballs- thank you. It does seem to only be tom and ben threads. I didn’t see one person on the Weisz/Craig thread saying we shouldn’t speculate on their relationships and should only talk about their work. Funny that…..

      • koko says:

I have found the message board for the most part at IMDB is centered on his work, past, present and future projects. Not much gossip there and when it does pop up, it’s usually closed quickly. Just a thought if anyone’s interested.

      • NUTBALLS says:

…you don’t need to take part in my conversation where I express my opinion…

Josa, we were a part of this thread initially and you joined in — which you’re welcome to do. We’re merely pointing out the fact that it’s a gossip site and these are the type of comments that are normal here.

I find it amusing when people like you come on to CB and read every Hiddles post, read through all the comments, proceed to post your own comments and then turn around and call others “over-invested” when they talk about his personal life. It’s pot calling the kettle black, really. Most of his fans don’t bother to spend time following him online.

I’m off this particular thread as I’ve said all I’m gonna say on the subject.

      • Dara says:

I keep coming back to Celebitchy because it offers all things – work updates, gossip and the occasional left turn into wacky topics that are completely unrelated to the celebrity subject of the original article. I want it all. Sometimes the conversation veers in a direction I don’t want to go, but I’ve never chided someone else for taking part, I just skim by and find something I am interested in.

In my mind, pretty much everything that goes on here is gossip and speculation, even the work related tidbits. No one here is an industry insider, or works directly for Tom (if you are, wave your hand and I’ll come sit by you) so when we speculate about future projects or working relationships it is still gossip, just a different sort.

      • Josa says:

“I’m not the one saying we should only be talking about certain topics.” I don’t think I said that at all. Read my post again and tell me which part I said we should only be talking about certain topics.

I’m probably over-invested as you said, Nutballs. Maybe that’s my wakeup call to stop being over-invested. I’m glad someone is calling me out. That’s the point, right? Calling thing out when one thinks it deserves calling out. So thanks, I shall rethink my position. I guess my opinion isn’t popular, bcos I felt chided too. I shall keep my opinion to myself.

      • jammypants says:

I’m just expressing an opinion like everyone here. Is that so wrong?

and Josa, you are free to say what’s on your mind so long as it’s respectful. Please don’t censor yourself. It gives the discussion a bit more variety.

“And when I don’t care, I just don’t comment. Pretty simple, eh?”

yea but if some people care to comment, that is their right, just like it is anyone’s choice not to comment. You’re straight up suggesting people not to comment if they don’t like something??

      • Dara says:

@jammy, I’m not sure if you’re asking the question in general or to someone specifically so apologies if I’m inserting myself where I don’t belong.

My point about not commenting was not to discourage discussion, but it seems to me that calling someone ‘over-invested’ and ‘speculating’ is just another way to discourage certain comments. I can say I’m not a huge fan of endless riffs about the region between Tom’s waist and his knees, but I’m not about to tsk-tsk everyone when they happen since other folks seem to enjoy them and I don’t want to ruin their fun. That was my point about just not commenting.

I do wonder why it’s only the girlfriend chit-chat that seems to be frowned upon. These comment sections are filled with the same kind of speculation about career choices or relationships with professional colleagues no one thinks anything of it.

We’ve discussed many times why we all think Tom did or didn’t get a role or which project he should do next, most of the time those topics have as little, or even less, public info about them as his personal life does. We’ve also examined in detail his family and who his friends are and how friendly they really are. Why is talk about a potential girlfriend any different than discussing whether Tom has a good relationship with his parents or siblings and if he was a groomsman at the recent Cumberbatch/Hunter nuptials?

Maybe if we can agree that we are all over-invested and everything we do here is nothing but speculation we can then move on to more important topics, like whether or not we think Uncle Tommy might be named as a godfather to the Batchling? 😜 Sorry @lilac, I know I’m violating the “no BC please” ban you’ve been trying to enforce, but I just couldn’t resist.

edit – I just noticed I went on a bit of rant, sorry about that.

      • Absolutely says:

        What she said ^.

I’m in no way saying people should censor themselves. Quite the opposite. I just don’t appreciate condescension when the talk turns to love lives on a gossip site. If your personal stance is that you don’t like discussing that particular topic, then don’t. But don’t expect others to censor themselves either.

        There’s room for everyone here.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        *blows kisses to Dara*

Dara, you said it well. I think the point was not to stifle anyone’s opinions but rather respecting the differences between us and letting others have their fun rather than putting them down because they enjoy something you don’t.

      • jammypants says:

        @Dara, it’s in general.

        @Abso

“If your personal stance is that you don’t like discussing that particular topic, then don’t. But don’t expect others to censor themselves either.”

The thing is no one here is expecting others to censor themselves. All they are doing is expressing their thoughts on the topic (and they can and will if they want). Can we not put words in people’s mouths here? It’s hypocritical to say, if you don’t like a topic, don’t discuss it. Isn’t that censoring?

Anyway, it’s completely understandable that people like to discuss these things. But I’m completely within my own right to say I think the topic silly! And just like suggested with the topic, if you don’t like something (like my comment), just move on.

anyways, I apologize for the grumpy tone ladies, but I do stand by what I said.

Russell Tovey (Banished), Alistair Petrie (Utopia) and Douglas Hodge (The Town) have joined the Night Manager cast -the cast for the series is pretty good.I love Russel Tovey,

  28. Lilacflowers says:

Several sites are reporting that Marvel wants Branagh back to direct Thor 3, although he might have a scheduling conflict. Branagh has said several times, while promoting other things, that he wanted back into the Thor franchise because he loved working with Chris and Tom. Ragnorak – everybody dies. If Thor 1 was King Lear; Thor 3 could be Hamlet.

    • jammypants says:

I hope he comes back. The Thor series has always suffered from weak writing, saved by the charm and performances of the actors (well most of them anyway).

      • Absolutely says:

I don’t really think most of the Marvel scripts are paragons of writing. Everyone seemed to love Cap 2, but that was mostly straight up action. Thor 2 wasn’t any worse than any of the others, though I do feel like the first Thor was slightly elevated with Branagh directing. He did a great job with the scope of it without turning it into a cheese fest.

    • Dara says:

From the various rumors I’ve seen for the plot for Ragnorak it sounds like a big, steaming, hot mess. If they can’t come up with a compelling storyline I’d rather they just shelve it. Thor 2 was borderline for me – only the Thor/Loki interaction saved it. Whoever directs, I hope it’s not Alan Taylor. I think Marvel forced him into a final cut of the movie he didn’t like, but I still thought he missed finding a good overall tone.
