Kanye West: ‘I’m fine to apologize for inaccuracies’ about ‘gentleman’ Beck

The most interesting story coming out of this year’s Grammys was when Kanye West pulled a Kanye and stage-rushed poor Beck when Beck was trying to accept his Grammy. That moment during the Grammy telecast was actually funny, and even Beck welcomed it. But then Kanye went on E! News after the Grammys and said, in part: “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.” As in, Beck is not as much of an artist as Beyonce. Which is just stupid, and Kanye realized the error of his ways within a few days/weeks. He ended up apologizing to Beck on Twitter and talking about how much he liked Beck’s album once he got the chance to listen to it.

So was everything forgiven and forgotten? What’s interesting to me is that Beck really never had a bad word to say about Kanye at all. Beck was and is an easy-going “live and let live” kind of guy, which made Kanye’s insults that much worse. Beck’s silence just made Kanye look that much more petty and childish. Well, anyway, Kanye has a new interview with The Times and he chats again about the Beck situation and some other stuff about beauty and truth.

Kanye’s apology to Beck: “I’m fine to apologize for inaccuracies. You know, I send flowers for inaccuracies. I talked to Beck’s wife [Marissa Ribisi], and I think I had a point about Beyonce’s album, but I think I was inaccurate with the concept of a gentleman who plays 14 instruments not respecting artistry.”

His philosophy: “I don’t make suggestions, I make propositions. I don’t give requests, I give directives. There’s no in-between.”

Beauty & truth: “Isn’t it amazing that people are so constantly shocked by the commonly agreed-on truth? How much bulls–t are we in if, every single time I give not just my opinion, but a vast 80%, 90% opinion, I get into that much trouble? When the truth is a mass opinion. That’s not about accuracy, it’s the definition of truth. In this fight, in this struggle for beauty, in this struggle for awesomeness, in this struggle for fair play, in a manipulative field, there might be a couple of inaccuracies on my part. But far fewer than the inaccuracies of the current systems.”

His reinvention: “Imagine if [Leonardo] da Vinci or Michelangelo or Galileo were asked not to think of anything except for the one thing they first became famous for. So da Vinci could only have one idea. For all haters, I’m not saying I’m da Vinci, but I feel it’s right for any human being to compare themselves to anything. I could compare myself to this chair, I’m saying, ‘I’ve got all this on my back, so I’m a chair.’ People get really uptight about my comparisons, but I’m an extreme speaker, and I speak through comparisons.”

[From THR & Us Weekly]

Well, he’s right about one thing – Beck is a gentleman and Beck not only respects artistry, Beck is likely one of the most talented artists working in music today. I guess Kanye is saying in his weird way that he sent his apologies to Beck through Beck’s wife, and maybe Kanye sent flowers as well? As for the rest of it… truth is not opinion. The majority of people can agree on something but a majority doesn’t make it a fact, you know? I feel like Kanye is on the cusp of truly grasping something profound, but his ego always gets in the damn way.

Clint Eastwood starts yelling at kanye

  2. CasualBtchr says:

And now all praise is going to start rolling in for him!

    • LA Juice says:

not so fast- he’s still obviously an fuckwit- he CANNOT admit he was wrong, instead its “inaccuracies”…. I wonder if he realizes that he does Beyonce no service always pulling crap like this. Someone needs to have a talk with him. Mr. “Z”?

      • Lisa says:

Actually, I believe I recall Beyoncé laughing her ass off while Kanye was being disrespectful in her honor.

  3. Kym says:

Yeah, I think Beck is just fine without an apology.
I think it’s nice Kayne spoke to Becks wife though…pretty cool move.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah definitely. Beck just seems like such a chill dude.

      • Kym says:

He really does seem like a decent guy. He’s super talented too, but I’m not ashamed to admit that his music is a bit above my head.
I’m sure he knew who the nominees were beforehand and saw that coming miles away 😉

  4. MAC says:

Kayne spoke to becks wife so he could than tell the public.
To even put his name next to who he did is all we need to know.

  5. JRenee says:

    Probably a 1st for Kanye.
    Another hideous outfit for Kim.

Kanye is a grown ass man. How many times is he going to insult someone and then apologize months later lol? Come on now get it together man ! This won’t be the last time we hear of him doing something like this. Let’s just hope his son doesn’t inherit his personality. Actually, let’s hope he does. I want to see what a 2 year old version of Kanye would do during a temper tantrum…in front of the paps of course. Epic I bet.

Chronological age is not the same as emotional age. Kanye is a severe narcissist – by definition, a person who has never advanced emotionally beyond the infancy stage, which is why he’s constantly throwing his toys around like a baby. Howard Stern was an untreated narcissist, then he got into therapy three times a week for the last 20 years and now he’s a better man for it. Kanye’s problem is there’s no one in his circle brave enough – or who cares enough about him to risk losing their paycheck – who will tell him he needs serious help. It doesn’t help him that he’s involved with the world’s most narcissistic family, too.

    • Gea says:

@world…Kenye is a grow ass man….not really more like a Dorian Grey..

  7. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

That last paragraph from him is madness.

I’m sorry once you’re over the age of 10 I don’t want to hear any tantrums from you. There is nothing you have to do as an adult that requires screaming at people or running up stage to make declarations. I sometimes wish some security worker would clothesline him when they see him walking towards the stage.

He’s good at one thing. No ones telling him he can’t do anything. He IS only good at one thing, producing. He’s semi good at rapping. Absolutely terrible at fashion and painfully mediocre at public speaking/getting his thoughts across in general. He’s lucky he’s got enough money that people don’t bluntly to his face tell him he sucks.

    • Kitten says:

“I sometimes wish some security worker would clothesline him when they see him walking towards the stage.”

      LOL!

Completely agree with you about Kanye’s talent lying squarely in production.

      Nothing but truth.

I wish I was his florist then. I could probably buy a yacht.

  9. minx says:

    Ugh, just ugh.
And this is probably the first time I’ve seen all of Kim’s dress–just ugly beyond words. Not flattering to her body at all, as if that ever stopped her. Does she look in a mirror?

  10. Cara says:

I’ll give Kanye a comparison to work with: he is as exhausting as a room full of toddlers.

I think at least 80% of the population agrees- therefore, TRUTH.

  11. Dawn says:

I read what he said and really there was no apology whatsoever. He talked about inaccuracies and ended it with something like he was actually right because 80-90 percent of the populace agreed with him in the first place. This guy is as delusional as they come. He sounded like he was missing some brain cells and of course he is always right in the end b.s. Nope he did NOT apologize and I am sick of people acting as if he did.

  12. Samantha says:

I can’t even read the LONG paragraphs of quotes here because Kanye is the master of rambling on as if he is saying something profound when really he’s just using big words to sound smart and likes the sound of his own voice.

And WHAT is his obsession with beyonce that he thinks she should get every award ever given and feels like he has to say it to everyone in that moment. If anyone should be doing that (which no one should) it should be Jay. I just seriously can’t with this guy…

  13. laura.e says:

Well Kanye, yes , you certainly have a lot in common with da Vinci and Michelangelo…wink wink
