Iggy Azalea: ‘No one is throwing shade. Women in music are not mean girls’

Over the past few days, Iggy Azalea has dragged Britney Spears for their failed single. Iggy first said she wasn’t to blame because she was only “featured” on “Pretty Girls.” Iggy has no problem taking credit for her other hit songs, even though she’s never had a solo hit single. Iggy also said some crude stuff and amplified her original complaints by continuing to tweet-whine. After Iggy made a fool of herself, Britney tweeted this very positive message, which a lot of people saw as shade.

Us Weekly adds more to the story, saying Iggy was a complete diva on the set of the “Pretty Girls” video. She allegedly ordered Britney to do her bidding:

[I]t turns out, the Australian rapper was always quite vocal about the collaboration. An insider exclusively reveals to Us Weekly that Azalea “was difficult” while shooting the song’s music video.

“Iggy was difficult with respect to direction of [the] video. Everyone just got fed up and didn’t want to deal with it. Britney, being a veteran artist, was tired of arguing,” the source tells Us, noting that Spears decided to do the track after Azalea’s team introduced her to it.

A second source notes: “‘Pretty Girls’ was Britney’s song and video but Iggy totally took it over as if it was hers. Iggy ordered everyone — including Britney — around as if she was directing the video.”

The second insider adds that Azalea, who’s just featured on the song, also decided on the single’s artwork. (The first source says that the artwork was “mutually agreed upon” but the rapper wanted RCA to re-release it to show that it’s a collaboration.)

Is this story true? Perhaps. Britney has been in the business long enough that she probably didn’t even care what Iggy did. Brit was simply fulfilling her end of a business deal. What’s interesting about all this drama is that T.I. is keeping his mouth shut. He usually defends Iggy, but not this time.

Yesterday, Iggy had more to say on Twitter because her team isn’t smart enough to change the password. She fired off many tweets about how everything is fine with Britney:

(1) Iam honestly not surprised but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a “beef” between @britneyspears and myself.

(2) We remain friends and i haven’t said anything negative at all about her. Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy?

(3) i feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other. As a woman i take great offense.

(4) Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. its disappointing.

(5) No one is throwing “shade” or “shots” on either side of the table. The girl is my friend and i support her 100%.

(6) i feel like the press just wants to see girls be overtly sexual to one another, and have no real opinion other than “i love it! ^.^”

(7) Im over it. Women in music are not the same as a teen drama. Stop making us all out to be, we are business women & artists. Not mean girls.

(8) And to all freelance bloggers: YOURE WELCOME. im back on twitter connecting with my fans; so you have tons to twist and get paid off again.

Once again, Iggy’s deflecting blame. She’s holding the media responsible for starting a “feud” and doesn’t realize how crappy her own remarks sounded. And she gave a shoutout to the bloggers too! Right back at ya, Ig.

igloo, STFU and SIT DOWN! enough!
*throws work documents in the air and storms outta office*

  3. Div says:

She’s so annoying. The media does manufacture fake, sexist feuds between women all the time, but she clearly was shading Brit before. She’s trying to act like she’s a victim of this type of crap, when other people genuinely are.

    • Chichi says:

Its so maddening that she is crying sexism over the coverage. In what universe would a new artist who has never had a solo hit get away with lecturing an established artist of over 20 years over how to make hit and not get called out? I cant think of an equivalent male rapper, so lets go with a mixed gender analogy. If she had instead been featured on a TI song and come out with this crap, OFCOURSE we would still be questioning her professionalism not to mention her gall!

Also, thank you Bedhead for pointing out that TI isnt defending her. You know one of the reasons is the fact that Brit is ALSO blonde white girl. Apparently when black girls call her out, she is a delicate flower whose honor must be galantly defended by all men of principle – Azalea Banks was right about TI, he needs to deal with his issues of race versus femininity.

      • Mala Malum says:

So true, Chichi. T.I. had no problem vociferously and cruelly coming after women who criticized Ms. Kelly’s faux ebonics and lack of talent. But of course, it’s seems to be easier for him to do so only to black women.

*side eye to T.I.* Never bought his music, never will.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

T.I.T. is a grade A fool who’s probably trying to figure out if he can get anything out of his investment in this girl or whether she’s doomed to be a sinking ship.

  4. snusnud says:

She should stay away from Twitter.Seriously, this girl never learns.

  5. Loopy says:

Wow she is like a stubborn little child, just SHUT UP! Her PR needs to be fired.

  6. Goats on the Roof says:

Iggy tried to throw shade, but Britney (or someone on Team Britney, more likely) shut her down. And it was GLORIOUS!

  7. Norman Bates' Mother says:

True dat, Iggy – women in music are not mean girls, but you are.

  8. Vampi says:

    Hey Iggy…Iggy…IGGY!
Psssst!….C’mere a minute. I want to tell you something.
    A little closer..
Can you hear me? Yes? Ok!
SHUTTY! Have the largest cup of STFU you can find because you have placed more feet in your mouth this past year than a foot fetishist does in a lifetime!!!!
(Hey Iggy’s PR team! Yinz suck!)

  9. Lindy79 says:

Her legs are a completely different shade to the rest of her body in that last picture.

Was she dip dyed to match her hair?

    • Belle says:

That is a lighting issue, Flash photography can be like that. Blast one area with light leaving the rest in darkness thus the unevenness. Look at Brit’s hand compared to her face.

  10. NewWester says:

Iggy, needs to take a break from social media, work on some music that people want to hear/ pay to go see in a concert. Also she should start listening to her PR people or fire the ones she has now. I have never seen a artist self destruct faster than Iggy. She is going down faster than Milli Vanilli, but at least that music is easier to listen to than hers

    • Kitten says:

Blame it on the rain yeah yeah yeah..

      • Vampi says:

Girl you know it’s true…oooh, oooh, oooh..
Ahhhh, I long for the times when scams and phoney people were shocking. Our time of innocence…..is gone.
        *hangs head*

  11. Nick says:

Leann should refer iggy to the tweethab place she went to.

  12. Dragonlady Sakura says:

Iggy, stop talking, texting and twitting! All you’re doing is alienating people and pushing yourself into has been territory quicker. I’m sure your 100 loyal fans will be devastated.

  13. Bridget says:

All she had to do was say “I really enjoyed working with Britney, and while I wish the single had gotten more play sometimes things just don’t work out”. But no.

And Iggy, Britney was definitely shading you.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah she will never learn that less is more when it comes to social media.

Anyway, I’m enjoying watching her self-destruct.

    • NewWester says:

Iggy should fire her public relations people and hire you. That was exactly what she should have said

  14. littlemissnaughty says:

It’s always weird when people don’t use the other person’s name and only use pronouns or “the girl” instead. I don’t know why but it sounds strange.

  15. Starrywonder says:

Too busy laughing at the line someone on Iggy’s team needs to take away her Twitter password. Sad cause it’s true.

  16. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Look…as a woman on the Internet with plenty of feelings I know that three dots after a comment means ‘eye roll – sips tea – “Hope it stings bitch” ‘

Sure, there’s manufactured drama in other cases but Britney making a point to say how happy she’ll be to be doing shows with those three dots is the equivalent of a middle finger to Iggy after she complained Britney didn’t push for the song.

PS. TI bullies and attacks the only people he has any power over in the industry: black women. He knows Spears and camp could crush him like an ant so funny the punk’s lips stay zipped.

  17. kimbers says:

Iggs has a rep for being hard to work with and having a fat mouth. Obviously the fat mouth part is correct, so I’m thinking the other is true too.

  18. Sara says:

God, I can’t stand her. For some reason I don’t doubt this story, Iggy sounds like such a pill. I wish she would shut up and go back to where ever she’s from.

  19. Apsutter says:

Does anyone else think that Brit looks freaking awesome in that top pic? Can’t stand Iggy…she’s just about over but thinks she a queen or something
