Tom Hiddleston made a rare appearance this week at Wimbledon: lovely?

Here are some photos of Tom Hiddleston at Wimbledon this week. This was… Wednesday. I’m sorry I didn’t post these photos sooner, but I only found out about them on Thursday afternoon. My bad! When there’s breaking Hiddlesnews, you Dragonflies can totally tweet me at @KaiseratCB. As you can see, Hiddles wore one of his favorite suits! He’s worn this three-piece blue suit (or one strikingly identical) so many times, I’ve sort of lost count. This suit came with him to Cannes several years ago. He also wore this suit to Wimbledon the last time he came out, in 2013. There’s also a hat involved and I’m absolutely sure that the Dragonflies have already freaked out about the hat. The hat is probably named Cassandra Higgenbottom the Hat by now.

If you remember correctly, when Tom was at Wimbledon in 2013, he sat next to a girl and thus was obviously carrying on a torrid and entirely secret romance involving a surprise elopement, a baby and a magazine cover. Or something. The girl at the time was Jane Arthy, and I really don’t even think Jane Arthy and Hiddles are a thing anymore. I think they had a summer romance two years ago and he’s spent the last two years working so steadily that he can’t maintain a relationship. Or maybe I’m wrong, who knows? Maybe he is secretly engaged and expecting a baby with someone.

Hiddles is going to miss the Wimbledon finals because most people believe he’s going to be in San Diego on Saturday to do the Comic-Con panel for Crimson Peak. Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Guillermo del Toro should also be in attendance. I’m think that Hiddles will really be there but he’s not going to dress up or anything. He’ll do the panel, pose for photos and hang out with fans and a pleasant time will be had by all. And by that I mean the Dragonflies will be in full meltdown mode. If we have photos, we’ll cover it on Sunday and Monday.

  1. Lilacflowers says:

Yes, my husband Tom did look most lovely. The hat was to protect his delicate skin from more sun damage. It is a brand new suit from Ralph Lauren. Tommy was working at Wimbledon for Ralph Lauren and Jaguar. Tom was showing how talented he is at accessorizing. Eyeglasses, umbrella, hat, and Ralph Lauren lanyard with ticket all were worn in different combinations. I was there with him disguised as a sweater devouring a child.

    • Leah says:

*snort milk out my nose* “sweater devouring a child!” Too funny!
      He looks amazing!

      • p'enny says:

@lilacflowers I love your disguise as a sweater, but the better disguise would be his underwear or not as the case maybe in those tight blue trousers.

      • Lilacflowers says:

p’enny, that would have been predictable and we are not going to discuss my husband’s undergarments or lack thereof. Plus, that child needed to be controlled. He could have been a distraction in all the lovely Tom pictures.

      • p'enny says:

        spoilsport :-p

good controlling of child you like youve swaddled him to death

      • Lilacflowers says:

Well, swaddling is very comforting, isn’t it?

    • LadyMTL says:

      ROFL!

And here I thought you were the blonde woman next to said sweater-eating child. She looks like she’s very happy to see Mr. Hiddleston, after all. 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

I am blonde. I’m always happy to see Tom. But we couldn’t have that child disrupting the match and I want to maintain my anonymity; so I sacrificed.

      • icerose says:

Tom popped over his quick dose of TLC when he lost his third round-I was heart broken-no more tennis for me

    • Ankhel says:

If underthings are predictable and Lilacflowers has the market cornered on sweaters… Could I be his umbrella? He’d spread me open on a regular basis, but I could live with that. ( Slaps own typing hand.)

  2. Franca says:

He is so handsome, but that hat is awful.

    • Absolutely says:

      I agree 100%.

    • Kickster says:

      Yeah, me too.

    • Dara says:

I just can’t with the hat.

The more I look at it, worse it gets. Someone elsewhere suggested since his suit and shoes were Ralph Lauren the hat was too. No way, that hat is an insult to hats everywhere. RL hats do not look like that nor would they suggest pairing that straw monstrosity with one of their exquisite suits. I think that hat is all Tom.

      • jammypants says:

That hat would look better if he was more casual, not completely suited up. Maybe with a nice casual button down shirt, rolled sleeves, light colored slacks, and some loafers.

      • Dara says:

Agreed – I’m not opposed to the hat per se, but not that hat is not event-appropriate. It’s definitely a casual hat – great with jeans or shorts, strolling on a beach somewhere.

      • koko says:

Not a hat person but my biggest fault with it, is that it covers that beautiful hair. My, my I have the vapors.

      • Secret squirrel says:

I don’t mind the hat, but prefer his Top Gear helmet and glasses look. Maybe not for Wimbledon, but he could wear the helmet for the drive home in the Jag.

P.S. That’s not a kid-eating sweater. He was smuggling me in to secretly sit next to my man. Sorry Lilac, but you know he always takes me to the tennis…

      • Lilacflowers says:

OMG! It’s Secret Squirrel! What a joyous morning! *Lilac as sweater hugs Secret Squirrel as kid even tighter*

      • Secret squirrel says:

        I missed you too Lilac!

We will have to have a drink and a dance off in your garden soon, for old times sake!

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Secret Squirrel, my butler Colin Firth is mixing up a batch of those frozen daiquiris you liked.

    • I Choose Me says:

Guess I’m the only one that likes the hat.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I have no problem with the hat. A wool or felt hat would have been seasonally off and a baseball cap would have been inappropriate. He is wearing a summer weight hat for sun protection

      • Mary-Alice says:

I love fedoras and they are The Hat for summer. Fedoras are classic. However, I agree that a fedora is not to go with a three-piece suit, it’s a relaxed, a bit Hemingway style accessory, goes with beach or rolled sleeves, rum and coke and hammocks. 🙂

      • jammypants says:

He would have looked better in a fedora. Trilbies are too narrow. Wide brim all the way!

      • M.A.F. says:

        At least his hat fits.

      • Mary-Alice says:

I didn’t know you guys call fedora a wider brimmed hat. The one he wears is what we call fedora as well as the slightly wider brim, the rest is the floppy kind if even wider.

    • Anne tommy says:

I imagine the hat was more for avoiding sunstroke rather than for fashion. At least he didn’t put a knotted hankie on his head, which was once a common way of avoiding meltdown. It was ridiculously hot at Wimbledon. Bar the hat, he looks fantastic.

  3. Lindy79 says:

    The hat….dead.
    His facial expressions are priceless

  4. Samtha says:

I’m pretty sure that’s one of the hats you can buy on the grounds. He probably forgot to bring sun protection–which you really need while watching tennis–and got the hat there.

    • p'enny says:

not that day, it was cold and rainy 🙂

      • Catherine says:

It rained at lunchtime but it was clear after that.

      • p'enny says:

i was in the North, Catherine, it’s like the arctic 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

The weather was specially engineered so we could show Tom with an array of weather accessories- Tom with wood-handled umbrella, the handle matching his shoes and the fabric matching his eyes for the Jaguar tweet; Tom with sun hat to accentuate those sharp cheekbones.

We also considered some snow so he could accessorize with scarf, gloves, and boots but decided that would be too difficult for the players

      • Samtha says:

Even so–for some reason, tennis courts are like a sun focusing lens. I’ve been to matches in March and gotten burned!

      • icerose says:

Tom sits on the British fashion board and has since Thor so he always tends to appear in formal attire at Wimbledon and still look brilliantly cool hat or no hat-but if he does not hat everyone starts picking on his sun damage it is enough to derive a sane person mad

      • Absolutely says:

What is the british fashion board? Is this real or a joke?

    • Lilacflowers says:

@Absolutely, it is real. The British Fashion Council promotes the British fashion industry. One of the Council’s promotions is a Men’s Fashion Week in London in January and June. Tom is on the committee for the Men’s Fashion Week or London Collection Men or whatever they call it. He has been for a couple of years. Dan Stevens is on the Men’s Fashion Week committee too.

      • Absolutely says:

I’m not quite sure why but this makes me laugh. Do they have to go to top secret fashion meetings? Is this the purpose of the ridiculous straw hat? And if he’s on a committee to promote British fashion, why is wearing an American designer? Is this just an honorary type of thing? I’m honestly intrigued….
Frankly, I don’t care what he wears. I prefer the t-shirts, sweaters and just rolled out of bed look myself. But boy, can he wear a (insert nationality here) suit!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Not quite sure whether there are secret society rules but there probably are committee meetings of some sort with bylaws, which can probably be attended through conference call. Maybe his committee membership has expired or they don’t exclusively have to wear only British fashion, especially not when Ralph Lauren calls and offers you Wimbledon tickets in exchange for wearing a beautiful bespoke suit. But looking at the committee’s website, Ralph Lauren’s son was also on the committee, representing the company.

  5. Lilacflowers says:

Tom will also be doing a NerdHQ podcast with Guillermo del Toro and Maisie Williams tomorrow night after he does the Legendary panel in Hall H in the afternoon.

    • p'enny says:

I hope this gets on youtube #prays to Nordic gods

      • Lilacflowers says:

NerdHQ will probably have it up on their website.

      • philae says:

Unless I read this wrongly, this podcast is part of the Nerdist podcast, not NerdHQ, they are two different things. The second is Zachary Levi’s charity campaign, the first is a SDCC’s thing, in fact the moderator for the podcast will be the same as the CP’s panel. If thre’s going to be a video of it (let’s hope so) it won’t be at NerdHQ website.

      • et alors says:

@philae, you’re correct. The podcast is with Nerdist, aka Chris Hardwick. He’s the moderator for the Crimson Peak panel at Comic Con as well. NerdHQ is with Zachary Levi, and Tom hasn’t been announced for any of those panels yet, although there’s speculation that the Mystery Panel on Saturday at 6 PM is with him.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Thanks, Philae.

    • jammypants says:

NerdHQ with Zach Levi isn’t confirmed. The Nerdist with Chad Hardwick is 🙂

Edit: sorry just saw the following comments saying the same thing.

      • Dara says:

If he isn’t part of NerdHQ’s mystery panel, I hope the nerd herd shows proper gratitude for whomever it is. Hopefully the audience isn’t full of Tomster fans that bought tickets just on the off chance it might be him. That would really suck for whoever the panelist(s) turn out to be.

I adore Nerdist Chris Hardwick as a moderator/interviewer. I think he’s a good-to-great tennis partner, he thinks on his feet and adjusts if the discussion takes an interesting turn and doesn’t just rattle off a list of prepared questions. His Nerdist podcast with Tom for Thor:TDW is one of my favorite Hiddleston interviews, right up there with the Q interview he did with Jian Douche-meshi.

  6. Freshmeat says:

Glad he got a few days of rest after TNM filming. He looked quite exhausted in the pic w/producer.

I actually quite love the suit/hat/glasses combo. It’s like “thinking man with a plan” hotness. Looking forward to the fall/winter and more possible suit porny-ness

    • Lilacflowers says:

      The hat accentuates the cheekbones.

    • Vesta says:

Thinking man with a plan…yes, but the guestion is: what kind of plan? I feel it’s kind of “I’m a Wimbledon Pimp” type of plan.

      Also, “suit porny-ness” – that’s a great expression 😃

      • Freshmeat says:

The plan is break the Internet and take over the world in amazing suit combos. I can just hear the “ehhehhehheh” going on inside his head.

      • Lilacflowers says:

He has a cunning plan. He already has a t-shirt announcing it

      • Becky says:

Looks to me like a man who got lucky the night before;)

  7. p'enny says:

I’ve loved all the photos of Tom at Wimbledon, I think it’s a new blue suit and it’s very sexy. He even made the Daily Mail at the bottom of yet another David Beckham & Son Wimbo story.

I believe the woman with the shocked expression is model Laura Bailey 🙂 I think I would quite possible looked shocked too, if he come and sit next to me. Well actually we would fight over leg room. Some of the photos of Tom trying to sit down and his legs wide apart, in some shots, and crossed in another, it looks like he was really struggling for room.

    • Lilacflowers says:

New blue suit from Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren and Jaguar were both tweeting about it. He was working. Nice job: take in a sporting event you love in great seats, wear gorgeous clothes tailored to you while doing so and get driven to the event in a luxury automobile.

      • p'enny says:

He knows how to live & show in style [Most of the time] i really wasn’t sure about the striped blue shirt, i am not used to seeing him something quite so flash but it’s grown on me, and as long as most of those stripes are hidden, under a three piece, it looks really eye catching.

I think this outfit may get a comic-con appearance too, we all know how he lives in an outfit till it falls apart.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Wasn’t Ralph Lauren a Wimbledon sponsor or something? So some other clothes may appear at Comic Con. He can be more casual there.

      • M.A.F. says:

The last time he went, the lanyard he had said “Ralph Lauren” and he went to a party on the grounds. Same as this year.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Yeah thats Laura Bailey, she gives me major hair envy.

    • Anne tommy says:

P’enny, David beckam and offspring seem to have taken up permanent residence. Along with Pippa. Lucky sods.

  8. Kiki says:

I love me some Tom Hiddleston, but I am not an enthusiastic fan and people are going to hate me for this but I really like Jan Arty and Tom Hiddleston. She is vey pretty and he knows how to pick em. Anyway, I hope for everyone’s sake he doesn’t find someone who is in his field of work, we all know that falls apart.

    • Secret squirrel says:

I think any woman who can keep her hair as lustrous and frizz-free as Jane did in Tahiti deserves our respect…

  9. TotallyBiased says:

Rare appearance at Wimbledon? I don’t think that’s quite what you meant! He goes to Wimbledon every year come heck, high water, or Marvel filming. 😉

I, too, love the hat. Some have said that it is a type commonly sold to tourists in Mallorca–so perhaps it is a souvenir. Wouldn’t have identified you as the sweater, Lilacflowers–would have guessed you were disguised as the hat!

    • p'enny says:

he missed last years, can’t remember ‘Totallybiased’? we all had withdrawal symptons and thought he was hiding from the jarthy-bora-bora fall out.

it’s been a such a drought, i am not sure how we are going to handle the fall out over the next few months.

And oi! Wheatley, where is our High Rise clip!!!

      • TotallyBiased says:

Whoops! You’re right, I managed to wash 2014 out of my mind!
Though seems more likely he was filming.

And I’m TOTALLY with you re High Rise!!
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THAT MOVIE!!

      • Lilacflowers says:

He missed last year’s and it is likely he was filming the Age of Ultron Loki scenes that were cut at the time and preparing for High-Rise. Doubt he cared about BoraBora fallout or that it would affect his tennis viewing

      • Catherine says:

Didnt he film AOU scenes in July though (worked out from when that Idris foot-in-mouth Ibiza interview was done).
Personally I thought it was odd since he was in London over those 2 weeks and didn’t make a Wimbledon appearance.

      • jammypants says:

He also missed that GQ fashion show for prostate cancer. We missed seeing him strut the runway.

      • p'enny says:

I just think he wanted to get his head down last year and film, film, film. I think he had his fill of promoting and shilling after 2013. Glad he’s about to come out now, in a promotional way, I mean. Gosh. But, I do think we are going to have a more serious Tomster, to reflect the older age group of the upcoming movies. I don’t think we are going to get any jumping on beds or talking to muppets. [unfortunately] could be wrong.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Wimbledon semifinals and finals were in early July 2014. Idris gave the interview in late July and referred back to filming a few weeks earlier, which would be early July/late June, Wimbledon time

      • Catherine says:

Lilac, I don’t know which interview you’re referring to, but I was ref the one in the Telegraph which was discussed on this thread:
        http://www.celebitchy.com/395377/idris_elba_claims_he_tom_hiddleston_filmed_scenes_for_avengers_age_of_ultron/

Unless Im missing something Idris says that he was filming “yesterday” with Hidds & Hems.

For all I know Tom may have shot scenes in June as well but I can’t see they’d be any more than the odd day. In any case a friend of mine saw him out in N London a couple of times in June and she’s sure 1 of those was during Wimbledon, which is why I thought it was odd he didn’t go.

      • waitwhat says:

Agreed Catherine – AoU shooting was later in July. But remember, he was on his way to NI for High-Rise, which started shooting the day after Wimbledon finals – and he was spotted in Belfast a day or so earlier, and in Nottingham even earlier that week.

  10. TotallyBiased says:

    @Lilacflowers–this one’s for you:
“I’m your hat, not a plot device.”
    #NotaStalkerJustPlayOneonCB

  11. Mia4S says:

He has a massive forehead. That’s all I can see today LOL! I never noticed before.

  12. Polhillian says:

The man makes my tummy go funny but he has one shirt button too many undone

    • Dara says:

I’m undecided about the button. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the view but I think you’re right – do up one more and we’re all good.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Just take the shirt off completely.

    • Ankhel says:

He’s a shameless flirt. I can just picture him in front of his hall mirror, looking himself over and thinking that something is lacking. Hm. Pops button. “Ehehehe!”. Evil little…

    • Lilacflowers says:

I think the issue is the actual spacing of the buttons. He only has the top two undone.

  13. jammypants says:

His suit isn’t old or worn. The one at Cannes is Reiss. This one is Ralph Lauren 🙂 I only know because Ralph Lauren tweeted this. The silky blue one he wore to 2013 Men’s Championship is Armani. I’m a very sad person for knowing this 😛

    • j.eyre says:

Never apologize for knowing about fashion, Pants du Jam. Fashion makes the world go round.

    • Dara says:

Jammy we can be sad together, I spent yesterday afternoon scrolling through Getty Images having a Tom-at-Wimbledon suit retrospective. 😍

There were two different suits (I think) in 2013 – he was there on two different days, at least according to the timestamps on Getty. The finals with Jane and an earlier day where the suit was darker, but still blue.

      • jammypants says:

That makes me wonder. Is blue a thing for Wimbledon wear?

      • Dara says:

I think it might be. Almost every guy was in a blue suit – and usually lighter than a true navy. There were a few obvious exceptions – Chiwetel being a glorious one.

    • Dani says:

I came here to say the same thing about the suit! You can also tell the colors and material are totally different.

    • Lilacflowers says:

He can get away with wearing lots of shades of blue. I also think he’s color-blind and blue must be in his range. (nothing to base that on other than the fact that he sticks with a very limited color range in his own clothes and blue is a color he wears frequently while he avoids some others completely. My boyfriend is color-blind and sticks to blues and blacks because he can see them and playing it safe means avoiding fashion disasters. My brother-in-law is also color-blind but in a different range so he avoids blues and greens because he can’t see them. His issues resulted in a meltdown of epic proportions at Disney World when the tired 3 year old wanted to ride a blue Dumbo but ended up in an orange one because his father couldn’t tell the difference)

      • jammypants says:

hm, never thought of it that way. That might explain why he only wears white, grey, black, and blue. OR it could just mean he likes those colors too and not really color blind 😀

      • Lilacflowers says:

And those colors do look nice on him.

  14. lizzie says:

i was not really on the hiddeston train until recently. i rewatched midnight in paris this week and he was inspired casting as f scott fitzgerald and was so so so wonderful. i’m looking forward to crimson peak.

  15. j.eyre says:

How can you not just absolutely adore the hat?! Look how jaunty he looks in it! Jaunty Tom is one of my most favorite Toms.

And good eye, Kaiser. The hat’s name is Reginald Pinky-Fingerup of the Paisley Park Pinky-Fingerups. He is a cousin to Cassandra. Cassandra used to be very visible when she was topping the likes of Booboo Stewart and Hunter Parrish but then she ventured into a torrid affair of hanging out on the desk of Clive Owen, watching him as he jots down his Owenisms. It’s long been noted the striking similarities between Cassandra and the slightly more jaunty Reg.

  16. Dara says:

I’m going to give Chiwetel some love, he’s there today looking mighty fine. Also in RL
    https://twitter.com/RalphLauren/status/619504760559927296

Is his Doctor Strange role confirmed or still just a rumor?

    • p'enny says:

he rocked the glasses as well, hiddles is getting more into wearing his glasses publicly. I wonder if he is auditioning for a role as some sexy intellectual with great glasses.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Probably needs them for distance: driving and watching events but doesn’t need them to see what’s close by and must take them off to read.

    • Absolutely says:

Am I the only one getting Stephen Merchant vibes from this pic?

  17. browniecakes says:

So we’re saying he paired a new designer suit with a $10 souvenir hat. If that isn’t proof he’s SINGLE I don’t what is.

  18. Mary says:

Am I the only one noticing the two brunettes in that bottom pick? They both look incredibly pissed off.

  19. Miss Jupitero says:

He really does love blue suits, doesn’t he? I am betting he has a closet filled with a hundred shades of blue.

I like the hat. A man who will wear a hat like that in public fears nothing.

    • Lilacflowers says:

It is a perfectly sensible summer weight men’s hat and it does fit him. People say he needs to use sun protection and when he does, in the form of a hat, nobody likes the hat. We’re so unaccustomed to seeing men wear anything but baseball caps. A regular weight fedora would have roasted the poor guy. And this one really draws attention to those magnificent cheekbones. I’ve got no problem with the hat

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I personally like hats, and have a frequent hat card at Goorin Bros. And yes, he needs sun protection.

I also like the glasses. He should wear them much more often.

      • Catherine says:

I don’t get the hate for the hat, I think it looks very dapper.

  20. InvaderTak says:

New frames, Lord Dragonfly. My dad has a pair a lot like that and it’s messing with me. Other than that, carry on your worshipfulness.

  21. koko says:

Well I attempted to post Wimbledon photo in CH article on Wednesday and they were excluded from my post. In the future I will post to Twitter feed. Thank you.

  22. Miss M says:

My eternal baby looks dashing… But he seems soooo self-aware that his pants are perhaps too tight that he manages to carefully hide his package in every single photo. How frustrating! 🙂

  23. Ava says:

    I adore the hat.

    • et alors says:

@Ava, I like the hat, too, although I’m not too crazy about the design at the top. A closed weave would have looked better, IMO, but I don’t know why the hat is so controversial. I think straw hats are a Wimbledon tradition, and since he was going a little more casual with his suit (no tie, unbuttoned shirt), the hat fit his ensemble.

  24. Korra says:

Why is this man so famous? Just why?

    • browniecakes says:

Korra – have you ever been attacked by a swarm of dragonflies? Just asking.

      • korra says:

LOL! I hurt some feelings! Look that’s fine if you like him. He’s not famous for his art or his talent as much as he is famous for being Loki. That is my issue with him. I think he’s talented he’s just not showcasing it properly at all. His film choices so far have been subpar with very few good choices here and there. I liked him as Loki. If someone can take that role and make it good in such a sh-tty movie with all other actors tuning it in and Hemsworth trying desperately to appear more than a lunkhead, then he obviously has talent. But dang did he ever milk the Loki thing. Now if he could do something a little more substantial with it I’d be more willing to believe he deserves this level of fame and adulation. But you’re right I’m not in the best mood today and the golden sweet boy hiddleston is getting on my last nerve.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Yawn. Methinks Korra is the one requiring a sense of humour transplant, stat.
Oh, wait, that’s right–trolling is funny. How could I forget? We’ve seen this same script on other actor’s threads, Korra. You’re diluting your trolling brand. Hmmm, let me see.
First we’re supposed to whine at “sub-par choices’ and rattle off the litany of excellent roles/movies he’s done. Nah, you can go to imdb yourself. Exert a little effort.
Then we’re supposed to overreact to ‘milk the Loki thing.’ Okay, can we take it as a given? He’s got at least one more movie as Marvel’s Dancing Bear with Horns–those of us that totally enjoy our Dragonfly King in Asgard drag are happy about it, those who find PuddleTom nauseating are in complete agreement with you.
        So–what else you got?
Where’s that last nerve–I want to twang it like Hank, Sr’s gee-tar!

      • korra says:

I think it’s sweet you’re defending him this hard. I don’t think I really did anything different than people do on this site. Which is share my snarky opinion about people. If his fans can’t handle a little criticism (especially since you say you’ve heard it time and again) then ya’ll need to grow a thicker skin. Litany of good choices is a stretch. He’s not known for those movies as much as he is for being Loki. But really if it bothered you that much you really could have just ignored my one comment in lieu of the hundreds of comments going on and on about him could you not? Apparently the answer to that is no. So yeah…I’m totally trolling you by sharing my one opinion you could have easily ignored.

      • Chef Grace says:

Maybe Korra is Jane acting out.
TH has stated before he likes to pick his own scripts and it drives his management crazy sometimes. Good for him if he can do this. His name is out there, and his star is rising, albeit a bit slow but maybe that is a good thing in this day and age.

      • neverland says:

Eh. His being popular as Loki doesnt mean his other work is all bad choices or ‘not showcasing his talent properly’. It’s pretty obvious that Loki would be his most well known role, seeing as he’s played the part three times and Marvel is a massive company.

Marvel takes up a lot of time as well, and frankly I think he’s just had some bad luck. His Capa biopic with Hayley Atwell fell through two years ago, and that was one of his only chances to get a film in between marvel promo and Coriolanus. OLLA is a typical indie in that it got good reviews but isn’t mainstream. And for the past year and a half he’s been filming a variety of roles – so this ‘not showcasing his talent properly’ isn’t accurate right now – he’s been working on this since Coriolanus or before, it’s just we haven’t seen the films yet.

But I’m sure he’ll still be referred to as Loki for a long while, it happens to many actors even when they’ve been around for donkeys years.

    • Sara says:

He’s famous because he is good at his art. Even if his movie career “fails”, he can always go back to theatre.

    • Lilacflowers says:

He was one of the co-stars in one of the biggest box office successes of all time but he’s not very famous.

    • jammypants says:

I don’t think he’s very famous. He’s known here and there, but people still call him Loki.

    • lala says:

Honestly honey, you are the one who claims he is “so famous”.
You don’t like him we get it, why feel the need to even write anything?
Just go away, no one needs your pathetic trolling.

      Bye.

  26. Pegasus says:

He’s really going to blow up in 2016. I always kind of thought he was a little too pretty and crowd pleasing. But gotta hand it to the man: he’s handsome, talented, & seems intelligent and socially aware. Lest I forget, them daddy glasses are doing inappropriate things to me. I’d be his au pair. Dammit, Dragonflies.

  27. Miss Jupitero says:

I would agree that he has had that big breakout critical role yet. I loved OLLA, but it was mostly a Tilda vehicle. I think he has the stuff though, and I’ll be interested in seeing what happens in 2016.

    • Lilacflowers says:

The career is building slow but pretty steadily and I think he is fine with that. He seems to really enjoy working. And if his appearance after working on The Night Manager for three months is any indication, working a lot agrees with him.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Well that is just it: After all of this hard work, 2016 should reveal a lot. If he pulls of Hank Williams, I think he could take a good leap forward career-wise. Personally, I see him more as a character actor than leading man, but that would describe a lot of my favorite actors.

Either way though, a-list or not, he has proven himself as a professional. I think he will always have work and be in a position to take the work he really likes. There is a lot to be said about that.

      • Lilacflowers says:

This is where the whole British classical actor training thing comes in. Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, Imelda Staunton, Ciaran Hinds, Timothy Spall, Charles Dance, everyone in the Harry Potter films, even Maggie Smith and on and on and on are essentially character actors and they move between television, stage, and movies without necessarily having to be a “Hollywood star” type of actor, although they do occasionally put in an appearance in a blockbuster here or there. TH seems like he would be quite happy with that type of career just so long as he is not forever trapped in the BBC period costume drama roles. which he has broken away from.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I think ISTL could be that for him… If Abrams doesn’t muck it up.

    After the drought, the MONSOON!
Dragonfly King pictures EVERYWHERE–and it looks like he’s invested in some new clothes for SDCC. Instagram and Twitter are a beautiful place right now. It doesn’t hurt that Jessica Chastain is also there with him, looking (I never thought I could say this) possibly even hotter than he does! No wonder EOnline and MTV are drooling over them.
And we haven’t even gotten to the Legendary panel yet, or the Nerdist Podcast.

    • Dara says:

I swore to myself I wasn’t going to get sucked in today – too much do I told myself, catch up on it all later, you don’t need to see it in real time, etc. etc. Too late – like a moth (or maybe a dragonfly) to a flame I’m parked on the couch with my laptop. Dang, the entire cast looks hot. I really am looking forward to this movie.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I don’t like Jessica’s dress but she looks really good in it. In fact, this is one of her best looks.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Grey linen jacket, although in some pictures, it looks blue. Looks like the pants are grey linen too. And a white t-shirt. And he looks stunning.

Allegra–how funny that we both tried to post the Marc Malkin link, and that we both failed. 😉

  31. TotallyBiased says:

Okay, I’ll try just the text: GeekzUnited tweeted “The roar when Hiddleston walked out was deafening. It’s like a 747 landed in #HallH. ”
Awww. He is among his people.

  32. NUTBALLS says:

Good God, ladies. I come back from the mountain wilderness to a big swarm of dragonflies staking out their territory here.

I have nothing but praise for the blue suit, the stripes, the specs and yes, even the hat. Does nothing to dampen THE SEXY. Jaunty Tom is my favorite Tom.

And he’s at SDCC too? BRING IT. We’re ready to party.

    • TotallyBiased says:

      Oh, NuttyMounds!
I’m EXHAUSTED from trying to keep up with the SDCC interviews, CP panel liveblogs, people live-tweeting the Nerdist Podcast. Evidently Arya Stark is a Hiddlestoner, btw–WHO KNEW??

Also, he looks SO GOOD at SDCC! Nom nom Tom!

    • TotallyBiased says:

      • NUTBALLS says:

TB, are you getting any sleep as you go from drought to flood in a matter of a days? I am grateful for your pains as you scour the interwebs and report back.

In the meanwhile, I shall hold these images in my head (and perhaps listen to the Nerdist podcast) as I clean toilets, fold clothes and other un-glamorous but necessary duties.
