Comic-Con: Ben Affleck is a ‘burn out’ in new ‘Batfleck v. Superman’ trailer

Your regularly scheduled Gatfleck drama will continue with CB tomorrow, I’m sure. For today, I’m trying to do some of the big highlights from the past three days of Comic-Con, which sounds surprisingly good. I read one preview that made it sound like this year’s Comic-Con was going to be crap because Marvel wasn’t doing anything, but in Marvel’s absence, Warner Brothers and Disney really brought the dramz.

On Saturday, Warner Brothers did a big panel for all of their upcoming properties, like The Man From UNCLE, Pan, Suicide Squad and of course, Batman v. Superman. This was Ben Affleck’s first scheduled/work appearance since he and Jennifer Garner announced their split two weeks ago. Ben made sure to wear his wedding ring, because obviously that kind of BS matters (not really), and he was part of a panel that included Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg and director Zack Snyder. They introduced the newest trailer, which I’ll discuss in a moment. Ben was asked why he decided to become The Batfleck and he told an obviously pre-rehearsed story about meeting Christian Bale and getting his blessing:

“If I thought too hard about the actors who played the part before, I couldn’t take the job. George Clooney did great, Christian Bale … I talked to Zack and I was like are you sure, you know? And he said I have this vision, I have this idea for the guy and you’re perfect for it. What do you mean? [He’s at] the end of his rope, he’s a burn out [laughs] … The truth was that he took me through he process of creating this character that I quite almost didn’t see and at the end of it I was astonished … That was exactly what you pitched me and I wasn’t sure I was doing it. Before I started the movie I was getting my kid’s Halloween costume and my son is really into Batman and we went to a costume store in Los Angeles and it was pretty empty and I was in the aisle and I hear this ‘Oi.’ I turned around, it’s Christian Bale who’s the sweetest guy ever and there he and I are standing in the Batman [aisle]. I said look man you’re the best, what do you think? [He said] ‘Make sure you could piss in that suit.’ Christian Bale was also buying his son the suit. He doesn’t just hang out [in the Batman aisle].”

[From People]

“He’s at the end of his rope, he’s a burn out…” Yep. What is it about directors instinctively knowing the truth of Ben Affleck’s character these days? First David Fincher and now Zack Snyder.

As for the trailer… God, it’s SO DARK. I mean, DC Comics insists on having the darkest, most morose superheroes ever. Everything has to be about Christ-figures and violent anarchy and NO ONE CAN EVER SMILE. I will say this – Ben as Bruce Wayne is actually fine. I believe Ben as Bruce Wayne. But no, I will never really be on board with The Batfleck. And do we really need to see Bruce Wayne’s parents get killed in yet another movie? Also: this is our first real glimpse of Holly Hunter’s senator (YAAYYYY Holly Hunter I love her), Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor with hair and Amy Adams playing Lois-with-great-hair again. We also get a glimpse of Gal Gadot as Diana Prince and Wonder Woman.

  1. Aussie girl says:

Well Ben scrubbed up alright and looks better than he has in awhile.

  2. Neah23 says:

Really you think Ben as Bruce is fine? All I see is grumpy Ben the same Ben that was at in the photo ops, no Bruce Wayne in sight.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

He looks convincing when Wayne yells at the building’s fallout

    • Nicole says:

OMFG you guys! Bruce Wayne and Ben Affleck ARE THE SAME PERSON!!!!!

They both lie to the public about the darkness within.
They both sell themselves as Everyman while living in giant sprawling mansions.
They’re both men who can’t settle down but place a high theoretical value on family.
They both champion the rights of others in the public arena / outspoken philanthropists.
The public views them both alternately golden boys or as shady as hell.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

You are funny .Yesterday on DListed, someone wrote Ben was all method .Wayne is alone ? Ben divorces.
Wayne is a player? Ben follows

      • The Real Gone Girl says:

        Hmmm, some good points lol

      • Shambles says:

Agreed, Nicole, this is really interesting to think about. Thanks for drawing some thought-provoking parallels. Makes you wonder: does art imitate life or does life imitate art?

        *hits bong*
        *strokes theoretical beard*

      • HollyB says:

I call BS on the chat with Bale in the costume store. Production/filming started in Detroit in April 2014. The “Bale” baby was born in summer of 2014, so any conversation about “Whadaya think, shoulid I take the role/ do i have your blessing???”, occuring in fall of 2014 would be moot.(Channel Carol Kane in “Princees Bride” – LIAR! LIAR!)

      • Sam says:

Agree @HollyB. Bale already told everone the story about running into and advising Ben about being able to pee in the Batsuit – back in Nov 2013 (see Google).

A cute story nonetheless. I think Bale said they had run into each other or he had reached out and emailed Ben after he got the role, to congratulate him and give advice. More likely to me their mutual agent (Pat Whitesell) saw Ben melting down after the huge public/internet backlash after his casting was announced, and asked Bale if he’d contact him to help out and ‘pat him on the back’ so to speak.

Ben needs a lot of reassurance you know.

      • Klaw says:

I just came here to say that Shambles *hits bong* and *strokes theoretical beard* was the funniest thing I’ve read all week !

Although I originally read it as *hits gong*!

And then the silence… And the beard stroking…

        Either way. Classic.

      • Lauren II says:

        Fascinating observation.
Ben is self destructive and brilliant.
Read his bio on Wiki – Ben’s father was a bookie, theatre Manager, carpenter, alcoholic. Ben ‘s Mum is a respected scholar/teacher.
I think Ben is incredibly bright, but emotionally empty, with vices that keep him absent+ awake all night.
Sometimes Ben looks bloated, hung over, defeated, guilty and scruffy. But Ben always survives and comes back stronger.
Ben’s marriage is dead, but I hope he stays healthy for his adorable children. Some men simply do not want to “have it all”.

    • Samtha says:

I crack up every time they show him staring into the distance (at 1:05 in the trailer), because he just looks so blank-eyed to me.

    • itzblissy says:

Argh, after watching the trailer my only thought was “OMG this could have been an epic movie”… but sadly i can’t focus on batman vs superman, I just keep thinking where is batman? why is ben here?

Usually i’m really good at separating the characters from their actors and most of the time i forget who is actually acting. But not with ben, all i see is ben pretending to be batman…

  3. LookyLoo says:

The trailer looks awesome. I will be there with bells on.

    • JWQ says:

Zack Snyder is a master at making amazing trailers. Unfortunately those amazing trailers are usually the only good thing of his movies. Oh, well, time will tell!

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

So true.It will be a visual glum garbage like Snyder’s other movies

      • Beth No. 2 says:

        @JWQ

This truth. I have no confidence in Zack Snyder. I remember the Man of Steel trailers looked good too and that movie turned out to be a complete turd.

      • JWQ says:

        @Beth
The same happened to me with Watchmen. The trailer is really good. The movie, not so much!

      • Esmerelda says:

I’m still hoping the Batfleck pulled an Orson Welles and de facto directed the movie… I can hope, right? Right?

      • Liberty says:

        yup. unfortunately, yup.

    • j.eyre says:

It really does. I am excited to see it.

    • zinjojo says:

My 17-year old son is now beyond psyched for this movie based on the trailer — and isn’t this the true demographic target for the movie? He watched the trailer yesterday, and then immediately went down a Batman rabbit hole — rewatched The Dark Knight and talked about Batman the rest of the day. He made me excited to see the movie too 🙂

And I always get such a wimpy vibe from Henry Cavill. There’s just something about him that comes across that way, despite the fact that he was totally hot in The Tudors. What happened?

      • Lori says:

He sold his souls to Kaley Cuoco

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Zinjojo, who wrote: “My 17-year old son is now beyond psyched for this movie based on the trailer — and isn’t this the true demographic target for the movie?”

LOL! I really don’t think the Marvel and DC films are primarily marketed to 17-year-old fan boys and girls. There is a whole demographic (okay, 2 or 3) between 40 – 70 who grew up reading the comics DC and Marvel films are based upon. Back then, our ‘video games’ were our imaginations used in play acting–outside–scenarios we ‘imagined’ our comic books heroes embroiled in.

It is an incredible rush to sit in a theater and see beloved comic book heroes come to life on the big screen. The majority of Baby Boomers are not your average ‘generation’ in that it is hard to pigeon hole us. I’m not about to sit home at age 60 because a film featuring comic book heroes I loved as a child are featured in a film targeted at 17-year-old fan boys and girls. And I really do believe that Studios (at least Disney) finally understand that fact. I’m just saying. 🙂

I actually loved “Man of Steele” and may see the upcoming “Batman vs. Superman” film for the Superman character, Lois Lane, and Wonder Woman (I love Amy Adams and Gal Gadot). I’m still not convinced that Ben Affleck can pull off Batman, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

    • Original T.C. says:

Love the trailer too and got excited then I reminded myself that it’s a Zack Synder movie and realized it will be a visual masterpiece but completely empty of substance with horrible dialogue so I will wait to read reviews before paying to see it.

    • Rice says:

When they first announced Batman vs Superman, I thought it would be utter rubbish. Then they announced Battyfleck vs Stupidman and I thought it would be absolute shite. Now that I’ve seen a couple of trailers, I think it will be The Worst of All Time (W.O.A.T), except for Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg. So I won’t be seeing this tripe, unless it’s accompanied with a very large glass of red wine. Or three.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

It looks AWESOME. I’m already baking my humble pie, it looks like Snyder and Batfleck are gonna prove me wrong.

    • Sarah says:

I agree. I think it looks like a highly entertaining movie.

  4. Maya says:

Michael Keaton gave Batman sexiness, Val Kilmer gave batman can be forgettable, George Clooney gave pretty man no brains, Christian Bale gave depth & humanity & inner torture and now it’s seems Ben Afflect is giving Bruce Wayne should never be batman.

Don’t think Ben will do justice to my favourite superhero so I won’t be watching this in the cinemas.

    • Liberty says:

………….And, Adam West gave him laughs.

    • CharlotteCharlotte says:

      Keaton gave sexy AND sardonic.

      But LOL

    • Sam says:

I think Ben looks good as Bruce Wayne and might actually be able to do that side of the role justice. It’s when he gets into the Batsuit that I get concerned….time will only tell. When is this finally coming out – next spring?

  5. kri says:

Am I the only one who thinks Ben has fake hair? Ugh. This media campaign is better run than any political one I have ever seen.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

His hair looks fake because it was grey 2 days ago but it’s nothing when you see Lex Luthor’s wig in the trailer

    • Easi says:

He has plugs. Has had them for ages.

    • Jen43 says:

Speaking of hair, what is with Henry’s hair? He looks so nerdy and not in a hot way. I think Ben’s hair has been fake for a while. Doesn’t he have plugs?

  6. Sure Jan says:

Uhmm no! Didn’t like when they announced Ben as batty still don’t like it. Should’ve went younger but I guess.

What’s the point of rocking the wedding ring now? He’s technically single let’s not act like you were that invested in your family now Ben. When you acted as if marriage and kids got in the way of your real life.

Ben has the look of someone who was up all night and slept for 30 minutes. He just looks like he reeks of booze, dirty stripper thongs and leftover pizza.

    • BNA FN says:

I was saying to myself Ben looks so sleep deprived. He looks as if he was up all night at the poker table gambling and drinking. The eyes are the window to the soul.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

        +1
        Maybe he is insomniac

      • Bread and Circuses says:

        Maybe he is sad.

        Maybe he is stressed.

Maybe he’s just a forty-something guy and we’re beginning to notice his age.

  7. Marrrrria says:

The trailer didn’t create any excitement. At least for me. I just hope they don’t screw up like the latest Marvel movies with dumb overachieving plot…

    • BNA FN says:

I saw the building coming down in that trailer and all I could think of was 9/11 when the WTC came down. As a New Yorker, I will not be seeing this movie.

      • Samtha says:

Same here. I was in NYC then, and seeing that dust streaming out…just no. Can’t watch.

      • BNA FN says:

Samtha, it’s as if they take that scene straight off the WTC disaster. It’s to real to watch, IMO.

      • Venus says:

Yup, me too. My takeaway from that scene and the trailer is that this is a 9/11 allegory with Superman playing the role of extremist Islam — starting out good but ending up as a force for evil — and Batman is us. No thanks.

      • Christin says:

That part bothered me as well.

      • Samtha says:

@BNA FN, I agree. It’s kind of a cheap attempt at evoking emotion in viewers, IMO.

  8. Mira says:

So silly to be wearing his ring when he takes it off every time he thinks the cameras aren’t looking and gets caught. Wearing it purely for the cameras puts focus on it, I wish he’d stop playing pr games and just focus on selling his work.

The movie looks good, I love superhero movies so will definitely be watching. Gal is beautiful but she looks like she’d snap if someone hit her. I wish females playing superheroes were required to actually look physically intimidating and capable just as the men are. Female heroes will never be taken seriously until they stop hiring pretty, obviously weak, ornamental women to play them.

    • Little Darling says:

That is exactly what I was going to comment about. At this point it’s kind of a joke to have that occurring. Like he thinks it will help his image at this point? It reads as such fake sentiment. Dude, your marriage is over. We all know it. You know it. Wearing the band now just serves as a reminder that it was seemingly never more than a prop to him.

      • Jets says:

I couldn’t have said this better myself re the wedding ring, it just speaks volume about what a lie he lives and what kind of person he is, the fact that he couldn’t even wait till he got in the SUV to take it off. PR games be damned, Ben needs to get help for his and his kids sake, it’s too bad everyone around him now are giving him bad advise.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

        @Jets: +1,000

    • fwiw says:

Ben is a total fake. Wearing his wedding ring while at the Comic Con panel but taking it off before he even exits the building. Proof right there that he is a loser and a fake …. king of PR …. always thinking about his image, always thinking of himself first ….. pretending to be one thing while in reality he is another. Double life indeed and I feel sorry for the kids and Jen for living with that bs for years. No wonder Fincher called him out.

  9. Catelina says:

Honestly, I watched the panel and Ben bored me the least with his responses to things. I think it says more about how boring everyone else on the panel is than it does about him (although it’s not really fair to say for Holly, who didn’t really get to speak), but still, I think he did his job here. He didn’t look overjoyed but he also didn’t sulk when he needed to speak.
Somewhat related, the LQ clip of suicide squad looks way better than BVS. Can’t wait for that one.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Agree on Suicide Quad trailer ( Ayer is a well better director than Snyder)

  10. georgia says:

All I see is henry cavill’s glorious chin dimple. And that’s all I really need to see.

  11. Miss M says:

I can’t get passed the Batman robotic voice in the first trailer… “Do you bleed?”
    I can’t stand Jesse Eisenberg’…

ps: I think Ben and Jen wear their rings when they are with the kids…
pps: Is Henry Cavill getting bald?

    • Neah23 says:

But Bens not with the kids here nor was Jen when she was on set. When arriving at Comic con Ben was hiding his wedding hand which probably means he didn’t have his ring on.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Their kids were NOT there and it’s just my opinion .I think that it gives fake hopes to the children where their parents continue to wear their rings whereas they are divorcing

      • Miss M says:

I don’t know why they are wearing their rings. But they may be waiting for the divorce to be finalized. Men who hide their hands usually want to hide they are married/have a wedding ring…

    • Luca76 says:

I don’t think kids really notice wedding rings enough to get confused by them. If they are confused it maybe because of the amount of time Ben & Jen spend together on photo ops and such not jewelry.
The wedding ring is PR to show he isn’t catting around in Vegas.

      • lisa2 says:

Children notice everything.. EVERYTHING.. they spend the majority of their time looking.

When I was teaching I would have kids saying to me.. You are wearing new earrings.. You never wore that outfit before.. You got your hair cut.. I like your necklace.. you wore that last week.

so if the rings go missing.. They will notice.

      • Luca76 says:

Honestly I lived through a divorce as a kid and whether or not my parents wore her wedding rings meant nothing to me.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

In Ben’s case,His ring is just for the media. He took off it at the end of the panel

      • Luce says:

Second that @Luca76. I lived through an awful divorce as a child as did several of my nearest and dearest and we were discussing this last night. None of us noticed when the parents took off their rings as there was far more drama going on. As a married person, I personally feel most people wear rings (or don’t) either because it symbolizes something truly special and bonded to the wearer and his or her spouse and/or because they want to show others they are married. I don’t typically feel that if a married person doesn’t wear a ring that it means he or she isn’t in love or connected with their spouse; I just think it’s dependent on the person. With all of that said, I agree with @Don’t kill me and do think BA and JG are doing it for media games. As seems to be typical with BA, he also seems to passive-agressively “messing up” the game by being too obvious with the on/off. He has done the same thing with the “happy family” pap walks, the Oscar speech, and the rumored daliances. It’s almost like he is the prototype of resenting her so much that he perpetually is passive-aggressive.

  12. Luca76 says:

    Looks overwrought and boring.

  13. dottie says:

    I think theyll reconcile.
Announcing a divorce doesnt mean you have to go thru with it, people!
Its just occurred to me that they will reconcile. Give it one last try.
But i wouldnt be surprised if they eventually divorce just a few years later.

    • Luca76 says:

I think there is a snowballs chance of them reconciling but I do think there will be tabloids selling a reunion for years ala the Aniston Pitt divorce.

  14. Kylie says:

What is the point in wearing the ring since they announced they are divorcing? Are we supposed to think he is sad about the divorce? Or are we supposed to think that they might get back together movie style?

    • Little Darling says:

      Exactly!

    • Merritt says:

I wondered that same thing. In Jen’s case wearing the ring may be reflexive. But there is some calculation behind Ben wearing his, since it is already established that he takes it off.

  15. Red32 says:

Lex Luthor? Where? All I see is the delinquent kid brother of Jim Carrey’s Riddler.

    • The Original Mia says:

That’s who he looks like! Thank you. That was sorta bugging me.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Why, oh why, didn’t they have Bryan Cranston play Lex Luthor!!!! I can’t stand Jessie Eisenberg! He looks stupid with that green hair! He is about as menacing as a newborn kitten!

      • Red32 says:

Bryan Cranston could have been a great Lex Luthor. This kid is not intimidating at all. I don’t understand how they can have a middle-aged, chubby Batman and a young, scrawny Luthor with a squeaky voice.

  16. Little Darling says:

    Sorry double post

  17. Mimz says:

I haven’t watched batman movies in ages… probably the one with George clooney was the last. but I only remember the one with Val Kilmer, when I fell in love with Nicole Kidman as an actress… and also because of Kiss From A Rose. Superman, last time I watched was when Dean Cain was with Teri Hatcher in the series, and the movies with Christopher Reeve are the ones I loved. Didn’t watch the latest reboots.
    so that says a lot.
I won’t lie though. I think I will be watching this. The trailer intrigued me…
I have been so disappointed with Marvel’s crap, I love the Avengers but Spider Man was horrible, so hopefully this will be better. If not… It will give me a reason to give up on Batman AND superman for a long time until they cast a REAL good one for both franchises!

  18. Tulip says:

I can’t wait for the fanfic material to come out after this movie. They’re selling some hot looks in that trailer that everyone will be able to enjoy.

  19. Bridget says:

Like ZAK SNYDER’s ‘vision’ was that convincing. The man is a total hack.

  20. Unmade_bed says:

Maybe the are wearing the rings for themselves!

  21. lisa2 says:

I suppose I’m in the minority. I don’t care about these superhero movies anymore. They all see the same to me. I didn’t go to the movies to see any of the Batman movies.. Caught the first on on TV and didn’t understand the hype. Regarding Ben he looks like a man going through something (in this case divorce). He has sad eyes and looks like he is just trying to get through this commitment. I’m sure now that the FIRST APPEARANCE is over he can just move on and do what has to be done. Regardless of him or her wanting out; divorce is you have kids is sad.. and I’m sure saddest for the two people going through it.

as for the rings. maybe they are not ready to take them off yet or maybe they are thinking about their children

    • KellyBee says:

I agree with you on the superhero moves. As for the rings since the split Bens been seen with out his. It seem to me that he playing games with the media and that his PR person told him it doesn’t look good for him to be the first one to go without wedding ring

  22. d says:

Saw the trailer, not interested in any of it. WAYYY too self-important and dull. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. on the other hand seems like a lot of fun. THAT movie, I’ll be watching.

  23. Kate says:

Amy Adams is giving me major hair envy in that clip where she’s standing in the crowd.

Gal looks ok to me but I’m not digging the whole “Wonder Woman as a fashion model” vibe they have going on here. It feels patronizing or something. Like…hey ladies, she’s a female superhero but don’t worry she’s still a skinny model first and foremost so that no men in the audience are threatened and patriarchal standards enforced on women are still firmly in place.” Am I nuts here?

God help me, Ben actually looks like he might be decent in this role. I’ll give WB this…they don’t mess around when it comes to talent. Affleck, Jeremy irons, Amy Adams, Viola Davis…they get the best.

    • bella says:

      i second amy adams hair.
      gorgeous!!!

i agree…i wasn’t excited about seeing this film, but am now considering it given the cast…

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      Amy’s hair is always fabulous

  24. serena says:

Uggghhhh, he looks so gorgeous and manly in the right way. And he was so affable, funny and charming during the panel.

    I don’t know him personally, so I can’t say I love him… but I kind of do.

While the ‘Hollywood’ love of my life Charming Hunnam was not there since he is a selfish selfish man, Ben stepped it up and served some real and much needed gorgeousness.

    • Illyra says:

“he looks so gorgeous and manly in the right way”

Yes, I honestly find that the more roughed up/burned out he gets, the more attractive he becomes.

      • serena says:

I love how symmetrical and harmonious his face is. He looks like a man whose bust should be carved out of marble. He has enviable skin, beautiful eyes, and I love how long and tall he is.

I see him as an all American-beauty. He should play a Roman general/emperor. He is manly, but not repulsively so. He has such a great jawline/chin combo.

I have always found him handsome – minus the JLo period when she dressed him in those abominably ‘trendy’ clothes. She has such gaudy wannabe taste.

Ben just does it for me.

      • Becks says:

Me too! I love it when Ben has the scruff. Omg, that salt and pepper beard does it for me.
I would totally hit it, and I’m so ashamed to admit it 😜

  25. Kate says:

The only person I’m interested in seeing in this movie is Jeremy Irons. If I even end up watching it.

  26. Daphne says:

Please the putting of the ring on and of is not for the kids but for desperate Jennifer Garner who cannot let go of this marriage or her fantasy of Ben Affleck.Everyones blaming him look how crazy she has been acting since they announced their separation.Public pictures in the bahamas were she looks like she is distraught by the whole divorce then now she puts her ring on supposedly for the kids. Some close friend or family member of hers should try and tell her the truth it is over this dude wants out he os practically screaming it yet she cannot see it.He will never be the man she wants him to be get over the blame game and find someone who can be the person you truly desire not the one you hope to brag about to your friends for artificial reasons.Ben shall be Ben and Jennifer she needs to grow up

  27. Frosty says:

Great cast, but I won’t be seeing it. I can’t with the bombastic comic book movies anymore, they bore me stiff.

  28. Alessio says:

i SCREAMED when i saw holly hunter! i didnt even know! i dont like zack snyder’s style AT ALL, i only liked dawn of the dead of him, but maybe i will go see it, it looks better than man of steel for sure (and i went to see that too)

I think Ben will be fine as batman. Half the time the character has a face mask on and the other half Bruce Wayne is being duplicitous concerning his true identity, so *that* won’t be a problem.

I’m not sure what happened, but ever since I saw the photo of their sprawling insane mansion, I just lost all sympathy. I’ve always felt pretty neutral about these two, but , really, they have no problems, divorced or not. Garner will live in luxury for the rest of her life, and Ben will continue to advance professionally and date whatever twenty year old he feels like at the moment. He won’t self destruct and neither will she. But they will continue to bombard us with their ridiculous pr crap indefinatly. Because you know, we are just stupid common folk who they need to buy movie tickets and batman crap for our kids. (Yes Ben we see your ring, you must be *so* torn up inside.) Sorry, guess I’m in a bad mood. I’m just sick of both of them.

  30. anne_000 says:

Over-dramatic with that over-powering, over-bearing music and with everybody, except the villain, being completely grim and unhappy.

So the premise is that Batman realizes that Superman has enough power to kill off the planet if he ever wanted to, so he must kill SM?

  31. Know-it-all says:

    Honesty pays.

  32. I thought Holly Hunter’s voice in the first trailer was Jodie Foster.

That’s all I got. I might catch this on tv in a couple of years.

  33. Moi says:

I’ll watch it. Even though I don’t quite understand why Superman and Batman are at odds. Their goals are the same. To help people. Confused by that part of it all. However, I want to see it, it looks well made.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      I know it’s idiot .
In more I don’t see how Batman can fight Superman .Is his suit in krypton It?

  34. JoJo says:

He apparently took the ring off at the end of the panel. There are photos, and you can see it missing as he stands next to Henry CaviIl and is waving with his left hand. I agree with above posters – kids don’t care about wedding rings. In fact, it would seem more confusing that they keep them on. I come from divorced parents. What matters most is that both parents are there for the kids, but if they’re not going to be a couple, then take the rings off. That’s confusing. They need to start acclimating the kids to some aspects of divorce. I think for Ben, the ring is there to show he’s not catting around, like someone above said. I don’t know why Jen keeps wearing hers, although it screams of desperation to me (as @Daphne said.) The whole setup screams of desperation on her end. All of a sudden, they’ve got Ben spending more time with w family than he ever did when they were together. I would not be surprised at all of Jen is angling to constantly be near him – under the guise of needing to all be with the kids – and hoping it will turn into a reconciliation. Of course anything is possible, but if they do, i can’t see it lasting. They’ll be back in the same place at some point. Their marriage seems like it has been a shambles for years, so I can’t that magically changing.

    • Jayna says:

What photo? That would be odd to take it off in the middle of everything, right after the panel but during photos.

I love the trailer I’ve watched it like three times and can’t wait for the movie now.. Am I the only one that thinks Eisenberg might be a great Lex Luthor, an out-of-the-box pick but ends surprising everyone in his performance?

    • Jayna says:

Oh, never mind. I see the photo. How, silly. If he wants it off that bad the second he’s off stage, just stand strong instead of placating your soon-to-be ex-wife or for your image re the media on advice from your publicist, and just leave it off. You’re done with the marriage and don’t want the ring on.

A few months back Jen was beaming at him when at the senate hearings. This divorce has only been in the works for a few months. There is no way right now they are on great terms, if she is going for the divorce, she’s still heartbroken, and I can’t imagine things are anything but very strained between them right now no matter the face they put on it. He wants out and she knows it and she’s probably running the show on how this will all go down for the kids’ sake. It has to be like a cold war back at the rented place in Atlanta. Friendly in front of the kids for their sake as they ease them into this, but that’s about all.

      • Neah23 says:

As was said earlier when Ben arrived at Comic Con he was hiding his wedding ring hand. I agree with the above post that he wasn’t wearing his ring and only put it on when he went on for photos and Joao just confirmed it.

    • alice says:

They haven’t officially filed. Maybe as a sign of respect until the mediation process ends they decided to keep the rings on. And it makes sense, because they’re still husband and wife officially. What I don’t understand is why Ben keeps playing this game ring on ring off. He’s been caught already without it in Canada presumably on a cheating trip. So why keep the charade? Just take it off.

  35. Thinker says:

Considering Christian Bale’s son is less than a year old, Ben’s story wreaks of bull$hit.

“Standard. Nothing to see here.” – Jen Garner

    • Blue says:

They all do it. Standard movie promotion PR is to make up BS stories about other A list celebrities. Just like his ex wife Jen garner’s bullshit story about Clooney and head lice.

    • lisa2 says:

I think the story would have been cute if he had just said his little boy loves Batman.. and how awesome is it to play hour kids Superhero.. That is an Awwwww moment.

all the drama over casting for Batman. Heck casting for any of these parts.. because in the end there is along list of unknowns that will be playing the role again in the years to come. That is the rub.

  36. JoJo says:

@jayna – The New York Daily News wrote an article last night about Ben’s “vanishing ring.” On during the panel and magically gone by the end. They have a photo at the end if the panel – you can see his whole left hand with just the imprint of a ring. Not sure why this isn’t getting wider attention. Everyone seems to want to focus on the “ring on” thing instead.

  37. kelly says:

I don’t understand the complaints about Batman: he IS a dark character and his parents death IS the catalyst for him becoming the caped one…unless, @kaiser, you’re not familiar with the character – in which case, I have to wonder why you didn’t do your research?

  38. YvesWestwood says:

Ben looks like he should be a good actor yet he isn’t.

The ring thing is a joke… can just picture him taking it off after the happy families holiday (and there is those pictures) and his PR having a melt down about how bad it would make him look. Ben was great in Gone Girl because I reckon it’s not far from what he’s really like.

He does NOT want the public to dislike him, either. I don’t believe he cares about garner in this situation as much as his public image.

She’s wearing the ring cause she can’t let go and he’s wearing it because he can’t risk his family man image being destroyed. But the fact he took it off after the cameras stopped rolling on the panel is very telling (and most likely didn’t have it on when he arrived) he doesn’t want to be wearing the damn thing.

  39. MrsNix says:

Is it wrong of me to be happy that Cavill is balding a bit? I mean, no one should be allowed to look that perfect. It’s almost a relief that his hairline is receding. He IS human!

  40. alice says:

I remember reading one of the interviews The Hollywood Reporter posts on awards season and one industry player, I don’t remember if a producer or an agent, said that pretty much ell the established actors play different versions of themselves and there are really few versatile actors that can really switch register. It really doesn’t have to do with the range and the training they had, but with who they are in real life. If you really think about it, even the greatest pretty much fit in this description. Directors know this, and save lots of time and money just giving the part to those who can relate to the character in some way or another in their real lives.

  41. jferber says:

Doesn’t Ben know you NEVER stand or sit next to a younger, slimmer, better-looking man because it makes you look old, fat and faded? He should know this. Also, the slight smile is the only time I’ve seen him smile in like forever. Batman makes him happy, but his family doesn’t. Got it.

    • Jayna says:

He had better smile. He had a job to do on stage in front of a massive audience of fans for the movie they are selling. Give me a break. He’s a professional.

  42. Amy M. says:

Oh thank you for cluing me in that Jesse Eisenberg is playing Lex Luthor! I didn’t know who that was supposed to be since he had long hair! I was like who is this evil genius John Lennon wannabe with long hair?

  43. sandra c says:

Sorry to be a sh*t disturber, but I noticed that their nanny of several years has mysteriously disappeared from the scene. There were some photos in the Daily Mail of a new nanny. Hmmm.

  44. Jag says:

So they’re divorcing and now he’s flashing his wedding ring all around? He didn’t get the PR memo apparently.

  45. Ok Ben, I’ve seen your left hand withhout the ring, then with the ring, where you obviously displayed it..then..without the ring! You have lost all cred with me ,you wishy washy childish fool!

  46. fee says:

I’m not sure if the collapse of his marriage has influenced people
But he is a good actor and depending the roles can be great too, this trailer looks great, not as individuals but an ensemble cast, looks great, can’t wait to see it.

  47. LA Juice says:

Hey all- is Robert Downey Jr. in this movie- I feel like I saw him twice in the trailer….who is he playing?
