Prince William’s coworker & flying companion is a glamorous, pretty doctor

FFN_Wimbledon_Celebs_PAA_070815_51793179

People are still talking about Prince William’s first day of “work” at the East Anglian Air Ambulance service yesterday. William arrived for his first day of work with photographers and a camera crew and he spent the first few hours posing for photos and doing a sit-down interview. I chose to highlight William’s comments about how he doesn’t even know what it means to be a “full time royal” and that he plans to “work” as an air-ambulance co-pilot for as long as possible (meaning until he gets bored, probably next year). Since William also had some nice words to say about his children and Kate, most people are ignoring his nonsensical comments about work. So it goes…

But here’s something funny – because William brought photographers with him on his first day, they snapped some shots of an attractive brunette woman who is now William’s coworker – you can see the photos here. Her name is Dr. Gemma Mullen. She’s 33, like William. And she’s going to be flying with him. OMG. Yes, this is probably just the Daily Mail stirring the pot, but it’s still interesting.

The Duke of Cambridge returned to work after his paternity leave yesterday – and onlookers could be forgiven for wondering if he had brought his wife with him. As William clocked in for his first shift with the East Anglian Air Ambulance service, he was teamed up with flying doctor Gemma Mullen. The glamorous brunette, who bears a striking resemblance to the Duchess of Cambridge, will fly rescue missions with William.

Both 33, they will make a formidable team. The Duke was formerly an RAF search and rescue pilot, while Cheshire-born Dr Mullen is an experienced medic who previously flew on the London Air Ambulance. Starting work at 7am sharp at Cambridge Airport yesterday, William confessed: ‘It’s my first day and I’m feeling the nerves.’

But he added that he was ‘fantastically excited’ and looking forward to working with a ‘very professional bunch of guys and girls’.

The prince, who is known as Captain William Wales in his role as an air ambulance pilot, is paid a salary for the job, all of which is donated to charity. He will work nine-and-a-half hour shifts as part of a four days on, four off rota.

[From The Daily Mail]

The Daily Mail previously reported that William wouldn’t be able to contact Kate when he was “on duty”. Does that go for the whole four-day “rota”? Does that mean William will be out of contact with Kate for four days at a time, all while spending days and nights with the glamorous Dr. Gemma? I actually doubt that William will be forced to not contact Kate during work hours (he’ll probably avoid contacting her out of habit, not because of work rules). As for Dr. Gemma… she does look a bit like Kate. She also looks a bit like Jecca Craig.

That’s ridiculous- she doesn’t look like Kate, except being a brunette with a fondness for thickly applied eyeliner. Pffffft.

    • Jenny says:

I agree. Plus she looks very British and that is not a good thing when it comes to looks. No accounting for taste but I’d be surprised if Kate feels threatened by this person. On the other hand, Prince Charles fell in love with a very British-looking woman while married to someone supposedly very beautiful so maybe…

      • Her Indoors says:

“She looks very British and that is not a good thing when it comes to looks”

        There are no words.

      • ktotheizzo says:

        You ignorant twit.

      • Megan says:

I wish l looked like a Brisith woman –specifically Kate Moss. But I would be fine with Kate Winslet.

      • paranormalgirl says:

        I just can’t.

      • Christin says:

As a woman with primarily British ancestry (one of many in the U.S.), I share the amazement at this comment.

      • Dena says:

I’m not British but really? Really? What’s the rationale for even beginning to put a comment like that together?

      • notasugarhere says:

May I please look like Kate Beckinsale? Helena Bonham-Carter? Ione Skye? Vivien Leigh? Maureen O’Hara? Julia Ormond? Jacqueline Bisset?

      • bluhare says:

I’m British and you’d be lucky to bask in the reflection of my personal glory.

      • Kate says:

Oh, Jenny. I used to live in London, and I saw many pretty English women everyday.

      • Citresse says:

        Her Indoors,
at least no one made reference to WASP females being “two faced creatures” as someone did recently and still has the nerve to post on CB. That’s religious intolerance and it borders on a hate crime.

    • Megan says:

Is it a slow gossip week? It is really bottom of the barrel stuff, even for the DM.

  2. kibbles says:

Smart and accomplished women with real jobs aren’t William’s type so Kate has nothing to worry about.

    • Ronda says:

      Ouch!

      • LadyoftheLoch says:

        LOL!

I hate how the DM is trying to make out she’s a Kate clone when they really have nothing in common, except for the hair. Typical DM though, to zero in on her appearance and make that a “thing.”

    • A.Key says:

      Hahahahahahaha, comment of the day!!!!

    • Snazzy says:

ha ha ha that’s the first thing I thought of too! She has a real job and probably a work ethic … so nope!

    • Dena says:

      Good one. Lol.

    • Tiffany says:

You beat me to it Kibbles. He won’t touch her with a ten foot pole because she has not only a career, but not one of socialite standing.

    • The Original Mia says:

Yep. He’s not going to hook up with anyone that might overshadow him. And an accomplished doctor would certainly do that. Waity is safe.

    • Amber says:

That was my first thought and the opposite. A pretty, intelligent, accomplished, hardworking woman? Yeah, no doubt she’s dying to be in the company of a Droopy-esque, married, father of two, permanently part-time worker, with the personality of a shoe. A guy with a lovely, bland, dispassionate, yet temperamental, temperament, (simply oozing charm and intelligence), who’s noted for being considerate, amenable, respectful and kind… unless you’re a relative or he’s dating you. I’m certain he has excellent manners. Isn’t rude to the help. And he’s probably good for a pint at the end of a shift. But once his looks started to go, I swear being a prince is the bulk of what Wills has going for him as well. Even that wasn’t much to a lot of the other women he went after. (Isn’t that how we ended up here?) Forget a potential hook up. I wonder how these people even feel about working with him, (for how ever long it lasts.) And I’m sure Dr. Mullen is loving the attention and enjoying her face being plastered all of the DM, and having it all come down to being compared to KATE.

    • Sunny says:

Amazing and 100% true. And who knows, she might not be interested in him at all for any number of reasons.

Way to make a non-story a story Daily Mail.

    • Olenna says:

      @Kibbles and Amber, ITA.

    • Liberty says:

……times a billion. I am sure someone with her background won’t be too thrilled working with a spoiled lightweight like William the Flounderer.

    • Christin says:

True, but it would’ve funny if he did crush on her, only to find out she thinks HARRY is the stuff!

    • Vava says:

      Very true.

Considering Kate’s history with William though, this could potentially cause her some anxiety, her man working with an intelligent and attractive woman.

      • FLORC says:

        Vava
If William takes a greater interest in this charity Flags will be tossed! While he’s been S&R for years on and off I don’t think he’s ever taken to any for fundraising. Maybe like Jecca’s family turned him onto conservaton work she will turn him onto MedEvac work for fundraising reasons..?

    • Kate says:

While my patience has run out on Kate, in her defense she’s often called “smart as a whip” and was a stand-out academically. Between her and William, it is said that she’s definitely the brains in that marriage … for whatever that’s worth.

      • wolfie says:

For Kate, the confusion is her mother. She needs to become an independent woman, but mummies arms are too warm.

      • kW says:

There’s a story floating around online from someone who went to St. Andrew’s at the same time as W&K. She said that Kate was very cold, very very snobby, dumb as a post, and blatantly copied assignments off other students’ work. I don’t believe a word of what the Palace tries to sell about this woman.

  3. Beth No. 2 says:

LMAO. I love how the Fail is getting so passive aggressive with William these days.

    • Xiufetish says:

Once the Queen dies or abdicates, the gloves will be truly off.

      • FLORC says:

Doubt it. Charles will be next and William POW. The DM isn’t ruled by the Queen. They will continue the way they’re going and William will remain protected.

      • wolfie says:

I believe that there will be LOTS of wiggle room. It will be fascinating – finally.

    • bondbabe says:

No kidding!! Trying to make something up for the sake of gossip.

I guess my husband should be wary–I work for a couple of handsome lawyers; obviously, trouble will be a-brewin’. Sheesh!

  4. Talie says:

Glamorous? I don’t use that word lightly.

  5. Angie says:

    UH OH…here comes trouble!!!

    • Original T.C. says:

Pfft, the daily mail wishes. Dr. Gemma is the same age as William (33) but already has an MD degree and is a licenses pilot, doubt she has the time of day for some bratty trust fund baby who has never worked a day in his life and is avoiding his real job. As a doctor she is committing herself to helping society while Will is trying to run away from doing charity work that could be helpful to society. She’s way too good for him.

      • Robin says:

Well, being an air ambulance pilot is pretty helpful to society. Probably more so than some of the charity work he does.

      • maria says:

@Robin: he does charity work? News to the rest of us!!

  6. bobslaw says:

Minor niggle, but William is working with the “East Anglian” and not “East Anglican” Search and Rescue.

    • Citresse says:

Wait, WASP? That can’t be. Though when certain others on here complain WASP females are “two-faced” then it really pushes the envelope in terms of tolerance.
Then why, if so intolerant, follow then appear to praise (in some cases) the British Royals in the first place?

  7. Kiki says:

She looks a bit more like Alexa Chung if you ask me.

  8. Dani says:

Uh…she has nothing on Kate, besides brains.

    • wendi says:

She’s actually better looking – naturally, without all the add-ons that Kate requires (fake hair, fake tan, teeth, etc.)

  9. Size Does Matter says:

Does William have a type? Brunettes in orange?

  10. Dena says:

W: Babykins, stop blowin’ up my cell phone!

K: it’s not like you are working. Everyone knows that.

W: The script, Babykins. The script. Stick to it & we can pull this thing off.

K: Mmmmppfff. What is SHE doing?

W: I don’t know. Talking some medical gobbly guck I don’t understand. She wears some sort of strange necklace that she puts into her ears & presses the bottom piece against people. Nasty habit that. But she did say that if I am good she might let me fly the ambulance later.

K: Mmm. Just don’t forget who butters your bread. Mother’s in the kitchen now putting away the grocery.

W: She is?!? Ask her if she got the picture I sent of me pretending to fly the ambulance.

    K: Click.

    K: Mother!!!!!!!!

  11. quantum entanglement says:

I hope this is the prelude to a fantastic scandal.

    • Tiffany says:

I don’t want to see this woman get burned for doing her job and also having to babysit as well as maintaining someones health and well being.

      • Green Girl says:

I don’t, either. I feel bad for her, actually. Who would want the press taking pictures of you and a married colleague when you’re just trying to do your job?

      • FLORC says:

        Same.
This would hurt her more tham expose him IF it were to play out that way.

      • Megan says:

I wish SHE could go after the DM for invasion of privacy. She is not a celebrity and has not sought celebrity status. She does a dangerous job in service to others. The DM should not have published her photo much less her name.

  12. Pondering thoughts says:

    1. Was William allowed to pick his flying colleague?
    2. @William: it is not a “professional bunch of guys and girls” but a “professional group of colleagues”. Don’t belittle your co-workers / colleagues / team.

    • original kay says:

yes. I was about to post the same.

even “women and men” would be an improvement.

  13. Kate says:

Did I wake up during the Eisenhower administration this morning? I mean … this is obviously stupid, right? Men and women work together every single day by the millions without “scandal.” The DM is basically going all Mad Men on us and making it seem like an attractive woman in the work place is somehow newsworthy. “Pretty women distract men when they work outside the home and must be treated like unicorns!” This reminds me of the scientist who said that women in the lab distract the menfolk. Sexist much?

    • Senaber says:

Thanks for that comment, “Kate.” 🙂

I mean I see your point, but this is a pretty hot set-up for a romance novel (providing the prince isn’t married with two kids).

  14. Mira says:

The coverage is very unfair to his coworker whose only crime is to be a reasonably attractive female. She’s a doctor and there for work, I’m sure she doesn’t appreciate the insinuations from the article.

    • Linn says:

      +1

I feeel bad for her seeing that she get’s dragged into this whole mess just because she does her job. She’s not a public person and she deserves her privacy without people discussing her private life and whether she’s prettier or less pretty than Kate etc.

    • original kay says:

agreed. I hope they (the press) don’t go full Amal on this woman.

    • S says:

Agreed. Really insulting to her, and to him really. And so incredibly backwards – yes, coworkers do sometimes get together due to proximity, but no, working with an attractive person does not make you lose all sense of reason and decorum.

  15. FLORC says:

Doubt this is anything. DM lately has been stirring more than usual.
She’s pretty and likely professional. William would be foolish to make a move when it’s already suspected. Though, anytime they go out for drinks as coworkers… Front page assumptions

Men and Women can work together and not sleep wth eachother. They also do.Depends on the people. We have more than enough history of William’s behavior. This woman is the unknown. Though, I would think she’s bright enough to not risk ruining her career and reputation. She has to know she’s already a press target being pretty, female, accomplished, and working with William.

  16. Delta Juliet says:

Her profile looks strikingly like Kate, but from head on, not so much. Of course, she is dressed to do her very real JOB, not smile for the cameras and shop.

This is an educated woman here. Let’s not reduce her down to her hairstyle.

  17. Betti says:

LOL Waity won’t like this cue setups pap shots of her and the kids in 3, 2…… Given how insecure Waity is am sure words will be had and she will be replaced with a male Dr.

Poor girl – turning up for work and becomes fodder for the DM.

    • LadyoftheLoch says:

Betti: I agree. Kate seems massively insecure, so I think Dr. Gemma will be shuffled into a new rota before too long so as not to upset “the Missus” (as William once referred to Kate).

      • Christin says:

If she doesn’t think of it herself, Mummy Carole will. Or, Mummy will pick out some new candles and try to arrange baby number three very quickly.

      • Jade says:

It would be sad if her schedule got arranged or she had to arrange it to avoid William, either to avoid the gossip or if pressured to by Kate indirectly. She has her own life and family commitments too.

  18. MinnFinn says:

This could be interesting because I am convinced the rumors are true that Kate does jealously guard Willy. I wish we could hear CarolE’s conversation with Kate when she informed her daughter about the good doctor.

    • FLORC says:

Too many rumors. Too many stories. Too many instances along the way now buried post engagement. I don’t doubt this. Unfortunately I would think Kate’s now healthy and lovely weight will drop drastically as a result.

  19. Okie says:

Maybe a silly question, but I remember when they married and Vanity Fair wrote about them saying they called each other “Mr. and Mrs. Wales,” but isn’t Cambridge more appropriate, given their title? Surnames are confusing with the BRF and I know he’s going to be Wales again one day (don’t see him stepping aside, just being lazy), but his children are not “Waleses” (yet). If not Cambridge, what’s wrong with Windsor?

  20. Jaded says:

I’m sure she’s gritting her teeth in consternation that she has to share her schedule with ‘Willy What’s Work’.

  21. Jess says:

I feel bad for Gemma getting all this attention, she’s just doing her job for crying out loud! Yes she’s attractive but can’t we give William(and any man working with a woman) a little more credit? I’d be so surprised to find out he has affairs, I know most people think he does but in my mind he’s a decent guy and seems to adore Kate and their children. I thought his comments about George and Charlotte were so funny, George is obviously a handful and I think he has been since birth, while Charlotte has been perfect and I can see her being his favorite, lol.

  22. MadMenluv says:

Why do they keep calling her “glamorous” several times in the article? What’s so glamorous about her in that hideous orange getup? She’s nothing but a mousy brunette…doesn’t look much Kate either, so I don’t get it…

    • FLORC says:

Apparently she’s quite fit under the jumpsuit and accomplished in her own way. It takes a certain skill set to treat someone with potentially critical injuries in a variety of situations working against you like environmental factors.
I don’t get why she’s mousy. Her hair color is exactly like Kate’s before the dye treatments. And her profile is how Kate looked pre weight loss and procedures. Pretty much from the side she looks like Kate when her and William started dating to the 2006/2007 mark.

  23. Tulip Garden says:

Any insinuation about an inappropriate relationship with the Prince is really insulting to this woman, or any other. Prince William may not deserve it either but he is a public person so that type of “speculation” comes with the territory for him. I really think it is unfair to her though. Probably embarrassing for him as well.

    • FLORC says:

      TULIP!
Been a while without your lovely insight!

      • Tulip Garden says:

Awwwws, thanks Florc 😁. I still read everyday just not much commenting time. I’ll try to do better! Always glad to read your thoughts and see you here.

    • teacakes (formerly oneshot) says:

seriously, he may be a work-shy royal but why is this poor lady being scripted against her will into some royal soap opera? I’d be so insulted if I was a professional who worked hard to earn my qualifications and ended up being painted as a potential ‘homewrecker’ just for having the same hair colour as a co-worker’s wife.

  24. Juluho says:

She’s a plant from the Royal family! To ride themselves of the Middletons!!

  25. Belle Epoch says:

I think Gemma rocks! A doctor AND a pilot AND she saves people in life-threatening emergencies? William would bore her!

Let’s read about Gemma instead of Amal.

  26. Louise177 says:

Kate and Gemma look nothing alike. I also don’t understand why people are assuming that Gemma is going to throw herself at William. Her background is barely mentioned which is why I don’t know why she’s glamorous. She could be married or in a serious relationship. But shockingly she could have morals and have no desire to ruin a marriage or want media attention.

  27. brit says:

“She looks very British and that is not a good thing when it comes to looks” Oh yeah, cos i’d rather be American – brash, and overweight!

  28. AmeriEssex says:

So he does a great service for the people, and all you can do is repeat a non-story brewed up by an online rag-mag more popular than yourself? Impressive.
