Jim-Bob Duggar was too much of a famewhore to allow a spin-off TLC show

duggar3

Yesterday, we covered the first excerpt from what I’m assuming will be a very large, intensive pro-Duggar article in this week’s People Magazine. From the beginning of the scandal (in May), People Magazine has treated the Duggars pretty gently, shying away from the most disgusting rumors/reports and painting the family with the glossy, family-friendly brush that People Mag gives to most of their subjects. I tend to think that it’s fine for People to do this – People often lulls their subjects into a false sense of complacency and that’s when the real dirt comes out. We learned yesterday that Jim-Bob and Michelle Duggar are particularly devastated with TLC’s cancelation of their show because they truly believed it was “part of God’s plan” to spread the word via TV. People followed up with this surprising gem exclusive: TLC wanted to do a spin-off show about Jessa and Jill, but Jim-Bob nixed it because he’s a famewhore. Ha!

After TLC pulled all episodes of 19 Kids and Counting from the air, following reports that Josh Duggar had molested five underage girls when he was 14 (he subsequently apologized and said he had “acted inexcusably”), there was talk that the show would shift from the entire family and focus on daughters Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald.

It’s no surprise a spin-off centered on the older Duggar daughters – whose marriages and pregnancies had become a popular part of the show – was being considered during the “near-constant” and “intense” conversations about the show’s future, as a source who has worked closely with the family tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, but the source says not everyone was on board. An insider tells PEOPLE that patriarch Jim Bob Duggar was not a fan of the Jill and Jessa spin-off suggestion.

“He absolutely wanted to be back on TV and was never thrilled about the show suddenly shifting focus,” the source says of Jim Bob, 50.

Adding to the unlikelihood of an imminent spin-off, Jill, 24, her husband Derick and their 4-month-old son Israel went to Central America on a mission trip in early July: “And with that, one half of any potential new show was gone,” the source says.

As for Jessa, 22, who is expecting her first child with husband Ben in November, “is clearly [one of the stars] in the family: beautiful, smart, strong-willed,” says the insider, adding, “She may be slightly more free-spirited than your average Duggar, but she is firmly and centrally a part of the family, as is her husband.”

Even though their hit series has been officially canceled and there are no confirmed spin-offs on the horizon, the Duggars will return to the network to appear in a TLC documentary special on survivors of child abuse.

“They’re happy to show that this did not scar them permanently,” the source says.

[From People]

See, that’s why I’m okay with how People Magazine is covering this family in particular. Because we get gems like that! And of course in the Duggars’ oblivious little churchy bubble, no permanent damage was done. OF COURSE! Meanwhile, I really hope all of the conservative politicians who cozied up to the Duggars will now have to explain WTF they were thinking. Please let Mike Huckabee get those questions.

Meanwhile, In Touch Weekly is still sticking with their series of exclusive reporting on the ground in Tontitown, Arkansas. According to ITW’s sources, the Duggar children are super-upset that TLC canceled the show, with one source saying: “The kids like being recognized and hate that the show is going away. Some of the older kids in particular are really upset about the show’s cancellation. These kids loved the spotlight and expected to be on TV forever.”

The same source also tells In Touch that the Duggars “think TLC should have stuck by them. They just didn’t get a lot of sympathy. They attacked everyone as part of their PR strategy, minimized what Josh did and turned it into an even bigger PR disaster.” Even worse, the Duggars are becoming pariahs in their town: “They aren’t who people think they are. Many people don’t believe their righteous preaching anymore, and their community, the police, the child abuse advocates and their network are angry about how they’ve handled everything. Some people in town look at them differently now, call them hypocrites. They don’t believe Jim Bob and Michelle’s version of the story and that all the victims have so easily forgiven Josh.” Word.

There’s also a lot of concern about the TLC “special documentary” that the Duggars are making about child molestation. Apparently, they insisted on being paid for all of it, which means they’re being paid for covering up a series of major crimes.

The Duggars are making a show about child molestation? I can’t imagine how that will help anyone. Let’s see “boys will be boys because of satan and girls should rug sweep and forgive.” Vomit

    • Red32 says:

More like “boys will be boys because those immodest girls tempted them.” Seriously, the Quiverfull homeschool program has a section on counseling sexual abuse and it’s disgusting. First, you have to figure out if the victim was “at fault”. Then she gets told “well at least you still have your soul”.

This is a link to the whole worksheet.

      • burnsie says:

Oh yeah, don’t even get me started on those immodest 5 year olds.

      • FLORC says:

That logic is amazing. How anyone who preys on children can blame even an infant for any time of enticement. wtf..

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Right? Maybe Donald Trump can do a show about inclusiveness and how to style your hair. Who’s idea was this? They handled EVERY single aspect of the multiple molestations wrong – instead of removing him from their home or refusing him access to the girls or punishing him and getting him meaningful counseling, they lectured the GIRLS on “how not to get molested.” They shifted the blame or at least part of it, to the victims, minimized what happened (oh, they were asleep, he barely touched them…) and now these despicable hypocrites are given yet another platform to spew their ignorance? Sickening.

      • Hawkeye says:

GNAT, if Donald Trump does a show about styling hair, I will pray with both hands that I am the first makeover chosen, and that it’s on the air until the day he dies, followed by a spin-off for his “hair” to have its own show.

      • belle de jour says:

I want the new show to feature the Donald chatting with those provocative Duggar hussies & temptresses about styling tempting tresses. It will be called ‘Comb Over to the Dark Side.’

      • Lucky Charm says:

Oh, belle de jour, you just made me spit out my coffee all over my keyboard and monitor! My IT person won’t be very happy with you. 🙂

That comment wins the internet today, priceless!!!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Belle de jour, that was hilarious!

    • Flora Kitty says:

      +1

    • Kitten says:

I was listening to an old podcast of This American Life called “Godless America” on my walk into work this morning. The episode discusses the separation of Church and state and why this country is so divided in that respect.

At one point during the podcast, Ira Glass interviewed an Evangelical Christian “activist” who said that he thought the world was a better place when women were shamed for having babies out of wedlock and homosexuals were treated like deviants.
Gah. Listening to this guy just enraged me on every level and I have no doubt that Dim Bulb is cut from the same cloth.

      • PhenomenalWoman says:

Was there any doubt that Dim Bulb and his ilk are of exactly the same mind?

I think it’s time to start writing TLC again. NO MORE SHOWS – specials or otherwise – with this family.

      • FLORC says:

        I heard that episode Kitten.
I remember it because I was screaming at the radio with FMORC.
How some of these interviewers can hold in their rage… I would be shaking with anger.

      • Kitten says:

Oh I know FLORC! I couldn’t have remained as calm and rational as Glass was. I would have lost my sh*t. I guess that’s why I don’t have a job in broadcast journalism. lol

    • PhenomenalWoman says:

Has anyone else noticed that Josh’s age is getting progressively lower? When this came out, he was reported to be 15 or 16. Now, it’s 14. Next, he’ll be 8 or 9.

      And People makes me stabby.

      • Suzy from Ontario says:

I believe that’s because the abuse continued over a period of time…a few years. It happened more than once, hence the different ages. They caught him and then he continued to do it again and was caught again and a few years had passed.

    • Miran says:

      @red32

I’m going to have an aneurysm

  2. Lilacflowers says:

Huckabee has a great deal to answer for in this mess because he was the governor who settled that appeal to child protective services, allowing this whole disgusting exercise in pervert protection to stay buried years ago.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, that’s why he tried to gloss over it, hoping it would go away. Like he hopes everyone will forget that his son tortured and killed a puppy in front of several other children when he was at Boy Scout camp. And I believe Huckabee covered, or tried to cover that up as well, firing a policeman who tried to pursue it. He’s a gross two-faced hick from hell, too.

    • Bridget says:

Add it to the list. I hope one day Huckabee will finally be called accountable for a lot of things.

  3. SleepyJane says:

Jim Bob looks very botoxy. Interesting.

    • Wren says:

You know what, he does! I try to avoid looking at his face because it makes me angry but he’s definitely got that shiny, something is slightly off look to him. Very interesting.

    • smith says:

      It’s also their smiles.

He has one m-f-creepy-ass see-you-in-your-nightmares smile. And her entire face is equal parts forced, crazy, dead-eyed and pleading for help. How do you even achieve that combo?

Aww, the kids hoped they’d be on television forever. So, so sorry. (I realize the children didn’t do anything but I’m sorry, they are part of the circus.)

I hope the whole world simply forgets them.

  4. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Can I please slap Jim-Bob upside of his idiotic face? Grrr… They piss me off.

    • Lilacflowers says:

But then you would have Jim-Bob residue on your hand.

    • Tate says:

      You have my permission.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’ll put on Latex gloves and hold him for you if you promise to haul back and slap with all your might.

    • Betti says:

I’ll bring the bleach to hose him down first with then we can all form an orderly queue and slap him Celebitchy style.

    • doofus says:

      get in line, sister.

    • ronette says:

Jim Bob has a control issue, he’s creepy as well. The way he dictates his adult children is not normal. If the truth is really known, Jill’s husband Derrick got Jill away from the crazy bunch. Derrick probably figured out real quick what a nut Jim Bob duggar is. The sooner jessa’s husband Ben gets her away the better off she’ll be as well. Having a spin off would of been a good idea for those two girls. Sorry Jim Bob, if you were my dad, you would have gotten a “mind your own business” from me!!

  5. Belle Epoch says:

A documentary to say child molestation does no harm? What’s next – rape is fun?

    • BlueNailsBetty says:

With special guest star Bill Cosby…..

    • Wren says:

Well, either way it doesn’t matter because both are caused by the immodesty of women, and since it’s completely their fault if it happens, so what? Men can’t be held responsible for their actions when women go around flaunting their existence, it’s just too tempting.

Ugh. I just can’t with these people.

  6. Fori says:

The girls are adults, if TLC wants them they should approach them separately from their parents, it could be the opportunity for financial independence they need to escape their parents cult. With no education and no skills they are trapped.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

You haven’t been paying attention if you think they’re all dying for a chance to escape. Jessa, possibly. But Jill? She’s got the kool-aid flowing through her veins. Have you listened to her talk? Mini-Michelle, that one.

      • Betti says:

Jessa is a mini Jim Bob – she is just as bad if not worse than Jill with the stuff she spews. Out of the 2 of them – Jill is the more likable one, Jessa is a mean girl through and through.

      • Joan says:

If the kids that are of-age really wanted to live another life and escape, I think they could have a chance of doing so on their own. (I would not count on any assistance from pimp-like TLC.”) For instance, Jessa — with her looks and personality — could have married far better than a local, rednecky fella with no education. They will never leave AK or the Daddy & Mama reglious crazypalooza.
Fact of that matter is that they are trashy people with no aspirations. Add lazy to that. If Jim-Bob really wants to “spread the word”, then go out in society and do so. Go on mission trips. Don’t stay in the comfort of your own padded house.

      • Lucky Charm says:

I had hopes that Jinger and Joy-Anna would eventually escape, but lately Jinger has been so pro-Ma and Pa on social media, that I think she was reprogrammed. It’s a shame that their kids will never have the chance at a normal life. Even the Bates kids are allowed to hug/hold hands and meet people in the real world!

    • Livvers says:

Even if TLC did approach them directly, the women would defer to Jim-Bob, because that’s what it means to buy in to a patriarchal idea of family and faith. Jim-Bob is the patriarch. His ruling is final. If they were to defy him, they would truly fear eternal damnation (since every ‘sin’ is a slippery-slope argument for them, it is possible to think “I stole a cookie–I must not really be ‘saved’–I’m going to hell”). That sort of conditioning takes a long time to work out.

      • Lucky Charm says:

Wouldn’t Jill and Jessa defer to their husbands now, though? Once they got married and moved out, they are under their husband’s headship and control, not Jim Bob’s.

      • hopscotchchampion says:

Lucky Charm, I think that’s how it’s supposed to work. However, Jim Bob picked their husbands for them, so it is likely that he picked men who would defer to him thereby maintaining his control over the whole family.

    • Sherry says:

That wouldn’t do any good, because this family is brainwashed. They will ALWAYS defer to Jim Bob’s wishes, because that’s how they were raised.

    • ronette says:

      Oh how correct you are!

  7. NGBoston says:

Glad their Hometown Tontitown is turning on them! The delight that they are now known as “hypocrites” is justified.

    The irony is RICH.

Jim-Bob the Creeper —-is anyone surprised he wanted to continue to surpress his older Daughters? Go away and stay away—-Josh’s “career” is over— JB will need to find another way to funnel money to his Son’s growing family since the Molester is no longer working at a paying job.

Leave Jessa and Jill now! Glad they have escaped and are finding their way in the world out from under the Master manipulator. If they could only ditch the Quiverfull movement all together, they would be a lot better off.

    • Kitten says:

      Have they escaped?
They still seem very much devoted to Evangelical Christianity and very much entrenched in JB’s f*cked-up idea of “family values”. They’re still defending Josh, still submitting to their father’s orders, still following “God’s plan” to get married ASAP and procreate like bunnies…

    • Wren says:

Those girls haven’t escaped at all, but I do agree that it’s interesting their town is turning on them and seeing them as hypocrites. What amuses me is that the louder they shriek and flail over all of this, the worse they look. Every move they’ve made has been confusing and weird, and it’s not getting any better, and it’s nice that more and more people are starting to see just how strange this family is.

They used to appear odd but harmless, a too good to be true happy deeply religious and conservative Christian family for those of a similar mindset to rally around and hold up and an example. Obviously it was too good to be true.

  8. Betti says:

Why is this a surprise. Jim Bob is a fame and money monster – always has been. He and his peado son both had political ambitions which are now gone – given that they have so many mouths to feed and people to pay off of course they wanted paid. Wonder when the non family victim comes out to tell her side.

As much as i don’t want to encourage the tabloids but go In Touch – bring this awful family down. The rest of the world got ur back.

  9. HeatherAnn says:

Ah Bob shows his true colors. They talk and talk but really it’s just about money and attention and his ego. This shocks . . . no one.

    • cubfan34 says:

Someone commented elsewhere yesterday that since JimBoob is so money hungry he should rent out the space in his head.

    • minx says:

I did love reading that JimBob didn’t want a spinoff, because it confirms what a fame whore he is.

  10. NewWester says:

Something very creepy about Jim Bob, I just can’t place my finger on it.

    • Jules says:

      Josh did

    • MinnFinn says:

JB gives me the creeps too and so do the other 2 sex predators JB chose as role models for his family. Google photos of Bill Gothard and Joseph Hutchens and you’ll get the creeps X2. (See my post below about how these 2 pervs were involved with the Duggars.) Also, a small study of 140 participants found that a predisposition to pedophilia may develop prenatally. Certain face and head anomalies may be associated with pedophilia. One anomaly is non-detached earlobes which is what JB appears to have.
      http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150610093225.htm

      • IfUSaySo says:

I have non detached ear lobes and I’m left handed. I’m also a woman and NOT a pedo. WTF?

    • doofus says:

I have my suspicions about him as well. I won’t make accusations as they are not based on any fact, but …

…Josh learned it from somewhere is all I’ll say.

    • Vampi says:

I think it’s his weird upside down smile, paired with those odd puffy cheeks. Creepy.

    • NorthernGirl_20 says:

YES! I find it super creepy the way he always has his hands on Michelle, or the way he just always seem to be hovering over her in pictures.. like a reminder that he always there watching and listening … I don’t like it.

      • rianic says:

I think he has mentally abused Michelle. She always talks about how sinful she was before she met him (she wore bikinis, kissed, was a cheerleader).
They originally met when he was knocking on doors and witnessing, and a year later his mom asked Michelle to go to his senior prom with him.
He totally has her convinced she was hell bound before him.

    • ronette says:

I feel the same way. Something isn’t right about him

  11. grabbyhands says:

It’s times like this that I think that if God exists, he must do an epic face palm every time he sees this jackass family start talking about “God’s plan”.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Exactly. You know what gets me? IF they really meant what they say, they WOULD see this as God’s plan – that this was exposed for a reason, that they didn’t deal with it the way God wanted in the first place and they need to go back and see what they did wrong by minimizing it and hiding it. Maybe they should actually educate themselves about what happened and maybe God doesn’t want them to focus so much on fame and money. That God’s will is to get their flabby butts off TV. But no, they don’t really care what God wants – they still think that they or Jim-Bob IS God, so what HE wants is God’s will. That’s what these patriarchal cults do – their leader is always some stupid egomaniac who thinks he knows everything and that only he understands God’s will. Because God’s will is obviously for him to be rich and famous, even if he has to sacrifice his own daughters to achieve that. They’re only girls, anyway…

      • mia girl says:

        ALL OF THIS!

      • doofus says:

        yeah, I said this yesterday.

if it was “God’s plan” for you to be on TV, it must ALSO be “God’s plan” for your show to get canceled. and it was clearly “God’s plan” for your family to be outed as pedophile-enablers and hypocrites.

but you’re right, they’re not self-reflective enough to see that just maybe they need to change their ways. what Dim Bulb says is law.

      • notasugarhere says:

I guess they skipped Proverbs 16 : 18 in reading the Bible.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

  12. LAK says:

Of course he wouldn’t want the focus to shift to other people especially if the focus is women. He is a grade A narcissist and a mysogynist.

    • Red32 says:

Also, I think he controls the money. The girls and their husbands live in houses he owns. If they had independence – a paycheck that he doesn’t control – then he might not get to call all the shots anymore. We’re talking about a man who chose his daughters’ husbands and only boyfriends. He and Cosby would be best buddies.

    • Sherry says:

I have thought this as well. He seems to have many of the markers of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. What really leans me this way is Michelle Duggar. She had a “normal” life until she hooked up with Jim Bob. She was a cheerleader, had friends and seemed to be a pretty nice, normal teenager. Then Jim Bob happened and she morphed into this baby-making subservient woman who looks and acts as though Jim Bob were a king she can worship. Do you remember when her friend gave her a new hair style and how different and pretty she looked? Didn’t she comment how she wouldn’t be keeping it that way because, “Jim Bob likes it the other way”? Michelle Duggar is isolated as are those children. They are all under Jim Bob’s control. It’s like he’s got his own little kingdom that he rules over.

I am not surprised he didn’t want Jessa and Jill to have their own show, because the show would be about someone besides Jim Bob. All of it is classic NPD. I’m just waiting for one of those people who were on the film crew to come out with “untold stories” of behind the scenes filming.

      • Montréalaise says:

I’m convinced that everyone who works on a reality show (including the crew behind the scenes) has to sign an iron-clad confidentiality agreement. Otherwise we would have heard a lot more about what really goes on behind the scenes.

  13. Talie says:

TLC must be out of their mind if they think we wanted to see a spin-off. And, of course, those girls are nowhere near being strong-willed or intelligent — they haven’t been taught to be. The brain-washing is too strong, sadly.

    • Jackson says:

My thoughts exactly….How low is the bar set when Jessa Duggar is considered “smart, strong-willed?”
I’m grateful that the older sister took that missionary trip because I absolutely believe there would have been a show with the two sisters only, in some form or another. I also believe the Duggars will be back on TLC down the road, maybe some ‘Duggar Family Specials.’ Vomit.

    • mandy says:

Yeah.. I’m pretty sure life will go on after The Duggars aren’t on the air anymore. At least the fundamentalists still have their crazy infomercials to get them by. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhWT7-OIGM8

Its not like they are America’s little darlings. TLC acts like the world is losing Shirley Temple all over again.

  14. Kiddo says:

No, this does not redeem People Magazine.

  15. Sparkly says:

I actually really hate how much People has been up the Duggar’s rears. I wish I had a subscription just so I could write and angry letter demanding my money back. lol

It’s no secret that Jim-Bob, and really all of them, are famewhores. I used to watch & enjoy the show, but that’s what made me wake up and see them for who they really are. It was that time one of the younger boys fell in the church’s orchestra and got hurt…EVERY single one of them had their cell phones out so as to capture everything for the show. His own mother wouldn’t even hug him or hold his hand because she was too busy filming. That’s when I realized that those people were nowhere near as wholesome as they tried to pretend. The show took priority over the kids’ health. I didn’t even realize the extent of it, but I honestly started having suspicions about J-B as I watched over the years. Still don’t know if I was wrong or if that’s where Josh learned it, but these people really make me sick. I regret ever being a supporter.

    • pf says:

It was also telling one time when they lost one of the younger children in the airport and didn’t seem to notice. And when the kid was finally found, only the oldest daughter Jana seemed concerned and provided comfort. Jim Bob is an ultimate narcissist and Michelle is too but her real problem is her addiction to her husband (which is great for him) and newborn babies. If you’re not a newborn baby, she doesn’t really care about you. I feel bad for those kids.

      • PortlandJan says:

That was Jackson, who was only 4 at the time. He was missing for a good 45 minutes before he was found and recovered. This was the first and only time I watched the show all the way through, and THE only time my husband watched with me. As events unfolded, my husband asked “Do they realize how lucky they are to get him back alive and unhurt? Do they not understand that bigger, smarter kids than this one have been abducted, murdered and dumped in less time than he was missing for?”. He finally left the room, saying “I can’t watch this. They’re too effing stupid for me!”. Oh, and it was not some little airfield in the middle of nowhere-it was Newark International Airport, one of the busiest in the country.

      • Sparkly says:

Oh, wow, I must have missed that one! Does not surprise me, though.

Jana seems so sad all the time. I really hope she breaks free. Her, Jinger, and Joy-Anna need to run away together and have real lives.

      • Lucky Charm says:

@ Sparkly – I just read that Jana is going to be a bridesmaid in Michael Bates wedding. I hope this doesn’t mean that the Duggar’s will move to UP and start a new show on that channel!

  16. Jayna says:

Jessa is a little more feisty. That’s true. But she is totally entrenched in this cult in her way of thinking. All you had to do was read her twitter and some of her comments and her rant she did about Christians and you would want to bang your head against the wall. She’s just as self-righteous and judgmental as the rest of them.

  17. Jayna says:

Jim Bob will never let the girls be the stars and him fading off into the sunset. He and Michelle are the stars and a power couple in God’s world, and don’t you forget it.

  18. MinnFinn says:

I still think JB is attracted to children or adult men and that is why he subconsciously chose 2 sex predators to be role models for his family. It’s the birds of a feather phenomenon. The predators are Joseph Hutchens the state trooper who was Josh’s confessor and Bill Gothard who is/was a bud of JB. Hutchens is serving 60 yrs for child pornography. Gothard at age 78 was forced to resign from the organization he founded due to numerous complaints that he sexually harassed female staffers. Gothard has always lived with his mother and apparently has never had a significant adult romantic relationship.

    • NewWester says:

      Wow. That is too creepy

    • Lucrezia says:

What? How exactly are gay men and sexual predators “birds of a feather”?

By saying “to children OR adult men”, you just lumped paedophiles and gay men together as perverts. That’s not cool. At all. Was that what you were really trying to say, or did you misspeak (mistype) somehow?

  19. ToodySezHey says:

These people are morally bankrupt pariah.

They deny and cover up the abuse and now want to do a special or survivors on the abuse.

Ugh at all parties involved. The world is truly terrible and lost.

Everything is a commodity to be sold.

Meh, I’m gonna go watch puppy videos on youtube.

  20. kri says:

Jim Bob is just like one of those horrible TV preachers that you sometimes see on local cable, screaming and shaking and roaring about how god is speaking through them. They always have gaudy suits, Lego Man hair, and rictus grins. He scares me, and he harbored a molester while giving up the women in his family for money and fame. And I will say this-JB has NOT been accused of any molestation himself, but where did Josh learn/see this? Michelle, I am looking at you, too. Wow. What a great, upstanding family.

I never watched this show but it seems like it would be a better show with the siblings, even more so if one was in Central America, much more interesting than the usual reality stuff.

Also, quit lumping conservative politicians in with this family, other than Huckabee, whom I believe to be wrong in defending them. I haven’t really seen anyone else defending them, other than some random preacher on Hannity, and Keith Ablow destroyed him in the debate.

One of the conservative websites, breitbart dot com, wrote an article excoritating the Duggars http://www.breitbart.com/big-hollywood/2015/06/05/it-is-long-past-time-to-dump-the-duggars/

So basically, TLC is doing a PSA on how child abuse survivors will be okay in the future and should forgive their abuser(s), since this is coming from a Duggar standpoint.

Maybe this documentary would be all fine and dandy if it weren’t coming from a network that took two months to take any action on past child abuse charges of one of its stars and wasn’t featuring victims that refuse to believe that they are.

I feel horrible for them, but they hardly represent the majority of children who were abused and how they turn out to be or what they go through when they are adults.

    • Bearcat Lawyer says:

What message does a documentary like this send to the thousands of survivors of child abuse who cannot just move on and forget? And what about punishment and atonement? Josh didn’t suffer anything close to what his victims endured, and I have not seen anything akin to atonement coming from him.

The Duggars need to quit famewhoring and start really working on their issues. That should keep them busy until the next century!

      • mandy says:

Exactly. “Hey kids. We got abused by our brother, got no help from our family or church and it wasn’t so bad! Through our parents and God, we came to the conclusion that it was our fault. Josh totally isn’t a molester, you guys. Its the liberal media and gays who are evil. And we are like.. totally fine now.” What a great message to put out there.

      • Lucky Charm says:

Maybe I’m just being naive and totally optimistic here, but perhaps, just maybe, TLC will use the girls as a cautionary tale of how NOT to treat an abuser, and what happens when you try to ignore it and pray it away? Then give all kinds of information on help that’s available, where to get it, what to do to bring the abuser to justice, etc. I hope so, anyway. But the realist in me says “Nah, probably not”.

    • mandy says:

@Lucky Charm Yeah. The Duggars are a case study on how not to handle child abuse. This documentary is purely damage control. The one exec at TLC who still has a partially intact soul is probably having a hard time sleeping at night and thinks this will solve everything. My nightmare is knowing that some kid who is being or has been abused will watch this and take notes from the Duggar girls. Live in denial and gloss your pain over. Forgive and carry your burden in secret or it might ruin your family..

      • BearcatLawyer says:

That is what is truly scary to me too…what if this documentary makes some children and adults LESS likely to speak out about the horrors of sexual abuse, familial predators, incest, etc.? The messages being put out by TLC and the Duggars are uniformly horrible, and as many others have pointed out before, they have likely destroyed decades of progress in fighting sex crimes against children. And don’t even get me started on how their “religion” portrays little girls as potential “temptresses” and capable of leading boys and men to “stumble” sinfully!

I know these moronic clowns have a dedicated fan base, but TLC MUST STOP THIS MADNESS. They cut off Honey Boo Boo and her family with barely so much as a backward glance and halfhearted “Thanks for the memories.” They can do it to the Duggars too. However, I suspect that the only way to convince TLC to walk away and pretend the Duggars never happened is for people like us to keep telling their advertisers and the cable companies that we are NOT interested in supporting anyone who supports TLC and the Duggars.

    • Mandy says:

@BearcatLawyer Bottom line is, until TLC completely wipes their hands clean of The Duggars and the family comes to terms with the extent of what happened and become a stronger voice for protecting children, they all belong no where near a documentary focused on child abuse.

  23. Shannon1972 says:

I want to write an articulate and passionate comment here about the horror of child abuse, but the very sight of his disgusting face on my screen has rendered me mute.

    I. JUST. WANT. TO. PUNCH. HIM.

    Ugh.

  24. Me too says:

His face is so goddamn repulsive. Like, every feature is hideous in its own unique way.

  25. Veronica says:

They’re upset about their lost opportunity to “spread God’s word,” huh? I’d suspect it was more that they miss that sweet, sweet TLC income for those 800 children they have.

And of course Jim Bob refused a spin off. Like he’d allow two mere women to inherit his legacy.

  26. anna says:

Still can’t believe they will be on the documentary show about abuse. They will either have to say they lied & knew what happened instead of the crap that they were asleep through it all or keep lying. They said he was just a curious boy so how can they stand for abuse victims who don’t believe in the “Curious boy” excuse. Will they lie and say they forgave so now everything is ok. If he was caught before the statute ran out he would have been jailed. Jimbob said incest abusers should die. Michele says transgenders will molest. Jill says she will do what her parents did and lock her kids in their rooms. Well that’s one way of handling incest abuse!!
