Tom Cruise will appear in ‘Top Gun 2,’ but only if they let him do every stunt

Tom Cruise

Here’s Tom Cruise at the London premiere of Mission: Impossible 5 – Ghost Protocol. Tom looked tanned and rested on the red carpet. Our agencies didn’t catch him posing with his Kidman (non-)lookalike co-star, Rebecca Ferguson. She wore a chic, navy blue pantset, which I didn’t like as much as the red Elie Saab dress she wore to the Vienna world premiere. Tom also didn’t walk the red carpet with his 22-year-old, Katie Holmes lookalike assistant, who is his latest rumored love interest. The Liftmaster walks alone.

Tom gave an interview to Reuters about how he’s really pumped about the reported Top Gun 2 sequel. He would likely reprise his role as Maverick, but Tom says he’ll only do the movie if there’s no CGI involved. Tom Cruise must do all the stunts:

Hollywood star Tom Cruise says he would be open to reprising his 1980s role as U.S. Navy pilot Maverick in a possible sequel to action drama Top Gun.

The 1986 blockbuster turned Cruise into a major box office draw. Last month, film producer and Skydance media company Chief Executive David Ellison was quoted in media reports as saying work on a Top Gun 2 screenplay was underway.

“It would be fun. I would like to get back into those jets,” Cruise told Reuters at the London premiere of his latest action film Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation on Saturday night. “It would have to be practical. I don’t want any CGI jets. I want to shoot it like how we shot the first one.”

Tom must be feeling the need for speed. Would you watch Top Gun 2? I’d never buy a ticket but would catch it on Netflix. He’d probably have to play Maverick as a flight teacher. Tom still thinks he’s 30, and he has the plastic surgeons to maintain such a visual illusion. Tom does look good, yet audiences can only suspend their belief so much.

Jeremy Renner did not come out for the London premiere. Simon Pegg made the rounds, and Eddie Izzard showed up in an awesome skirt.

Ugh. I couldn’t stand the first Top Gun, it was the dumbest movie with cruise chewing the scenery every chance he got. He does look refreshed in the pics above though.

  2. Brittney B says:

    God, I wish I had Eddie’s legs…

    • JWQ says:

For real. He looks way better than I would with that outfit.

    • ncboudicca says:

yeah, I like his ensemble. I just have a thing against pointed-toe pumps for some reason.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

Same. I’ve never cared for pointed-toe pumps.

      • mytbean says:

Dear Lord! What is Eddie doing in the gym because I want to go to do that!

As for pointed – I’m the opposite. I love pointed over rounded unless you’re under 25. For some reason the rounded toe just looks like a little girl’s shoe to me no matter how high the heel. (shrugs)

    • Lilacflowers says:

      Fantastic legs.

  3. Mia4S says:

Let’s face it, we all know this cult master is just looking forward to another volleyball game. *cough*

  4. Lindy79 says:

Is it wrong that I thought “meh, let him. Maybe he’ll get injured and stop making movies”

    • MrsBPitt says:

Morbid curiosity makes me wonder if Tom has will that leaves most of his fortune to the Church of Scientology! Otherwise, I would think Miscavige would tell Tom he is too important to the church, to be taking such chances….

    • Maum says:

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    • canadaorbroke says:

From your mouth to Xenu’s ears!

    • Wolf says:

He can’t get hurt, he’s immortal. Xenu said so.

  5. Stellainnh says:

Well, the CO$ tells him that he is invincible so he believes that he can do anything. I don’t watch any of his movies because I don’t want to fund that cult.

    • Lindy79 says:

Yep, this is a bloke who said on that CoS tribute thing that Scientologists are the only ones who can help in the event of an accident (so…implying even more than medical professionals) so yeah… he thinks he can do anything. That’s what years and years of people treating you like a god will do to your brain. He probably thinks he can fly the fighter jets too.

Let him do his stunts and hurt himself, who cares. Might sober him up a bit.

    • lucy2 says:

That’s what I was thinking, he believes he is invincible. It could end very badly someday.

Also, “tanned and rested” usually means he just came back from getting a touch up.

    • Liberty says:

hey if they are all alien spawn or whatever, how come they are hanging around on earth with cult cruise lines and making pretend movies, instead of shooting off into space to see Pluto on like, a Virgin spaceship, or something? Huh? Huh?

  6. Maum says:

    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Eddie but he looks like a middle-aged headmistress… Terrible hair!

As for Tiny (sorry Tom) The headline was enough to make me laugh. Seriously. For the past 10 years the only thing he’s ever talked about is ‘doing his own stunts’.
Newsflash- no-one cares. As long as the stunt looks good and realistic I don’t care who’s doing it.

And seeing that Iceman will clearly not be returning what is the point of even doing a sequel?

    • Red32 says:

Technically, Iceman could come back if Val Kilmer got in shape. No Goose – that’s the deal breaker for me. Unless we find out that Goose faked his death to join the Men in Black or something.

      • Tiffany says:

I am with you Red. No Goose, no sequel.

      • Triple Cardinal says:

If they bring back Goose, then they may bring back The Bride Of Goose. So we’re talking Meg “Take Me to Bed or Lose Me Forever!” Ryan.

        I don’t know if I want to go there…

    • Joan says:

Val has been game for Top Gun 2 for some time now. I believe he even mentioned it the last time he was on Conan, saying there was a script in the works and that Cruise was also game. At their ages, it is considered “fun” more than anything else. They are openly desperate to re-live the good old days!!
Speaking of Val, he has actually gotten in better shape over the past few months but they had some gossip about his health, suggesting thyroid problems. I hope he’s healthy … could not imagine a sequel without him. How about Rick Rossovich???

  7. Jellybean says:

They all look great, except Simon maybe, but he has the sense of humour which counts for much more. I am looking forward to the film, the reviews look good and apparently Rebecca has a great role and aces it. Plus, this seems to be the first Hollywood film that makes the most of Pegg’s comedic chops; I love him in the Cornetto Trilogy.

    • Mia4S says:

Sorry but it just feels clear to me that paying for Tom Cruise movies helps to support Scientology abuses. I wish Rebecca and Simon well but I will catch them in something else.

      • Lindy79 says:

Yep. I have to say, Simon Pegg gushing about him in interviews without a hint of snark or irony does make me side eye him a bit. Not saying he has to slam him, he doesn’t want to burn bridges but…yeah no need to act like he’s the most amazing person he’s ever met either.

      • Ennie says:

+1 No way I’d go and indirectly support his church. even my hubbie said when he saw the Mission Impossible poster: “Doesn’t he get tired of doing those?”

  8. Barrett says:

I hope this never happens, but I could see his death being a stunt gone wrong…. He’s maniac. God forbid but he lives in an alternate pumped up crazed universe.

  9. Eleonor says:

Whatever he is doing to his face he looks good. Madonna should beg him to have his plastic surgeon number.

  10. NewWester says:

For all his faults, I do have to say Tom Cruise does look good for his age( great hair!) and he does work hard when promoting his movies. Plus from all accounts he is very good with his fans. It is just a shame his involvement with Scienctology over shadows everything

    • Jayna says:

Isn’t that the truth? He looks fantastic. But he’s a kook all entrenched in that COS cult.

  11. Shopgirl says:

I would watch Top Gun 2! Top Gun 1 is one of my guilty pleasures and I watch it every other year. In spite of his personal life, I think Cruise is a good and intriguing actor. In fact, I think he is one of the best male actors, among the “super stars” such as Clooney and Pitt, of our time. Also, I think he gets more flack for his creepy cult (which it is!) than for example Sean Penn gets for being an abuser. Ok, rant over 🙂

  12. Tippipippi says:

It’s such a pity he’s a deranged, psychopathic, egocentric tyrant. If he were genuine, sane and nice he’d be a very attractive man.

  13. Jayna says:

No, I wouldn’t watch Top Gun. But I will watch his Mission Impossible movie. I liked the last one.

  14. Jane says:

Call me crazy, but the only reason why I saw the first movie over and over was for the fighter planes, “dog” fighting sequences and aircraft carrier shots. If there was anyone in the movie I really looked at, it was Val Kilmer. Tom was just too much in that movie and his acting was terrible.

    • Christin says:

My favorite part was the soundtrack, which I purchased and played several songs repeatedly. Probably the audio cassette I played the most in late 1986-1987.

Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago

  15. Triple Cardinal says:

The only way I’d buy a ticket to see TG2 is if they strapped Oprah’s couch to the jet and had Tom jump up and down on it…in mid flight.

On a more-serious note, Val Kilmer is very ill and has been for a while. Google the specifics, because he’s keeping his exact condition very hush-hush.

  16. Suzy from Ontario says:

After reading that Celebitchy story about how he treated his niece after he found out she was making out with her boyfriend, I can’t look at him as anything except weird, crazy and dangerously full of himself (http://www.celebitchy.com/438916/tom_cruise_kicked_his_14-year-old_niece_out_of_the_family_for_scientology/). I mean, who handles a situation with a 14 year old that way? She shouldn’t be sent away for years and then have to beg Tom to be allowed to come back or see her mother! That is just beyond sick and abusive imo!

It’s so strange when you see him in interviews or whatever and he seems “normal” and then you know about all this weird Scientology stuff that he believes and how he can virtually abandon Suri and alienate his older kids from their Mom and …. I just can’t with him. I’m not saying he’s not a good actor but it’s not enough anymore for me to see past his weirdness. Like, it really bothers me that his older kids don’t have a good education. He doesn’t seem to value anything that isn’t Scientology-related, and the fact that he feels free to use slave labour and doesn’t seem to care how those underlings are treated?! Those are human rights issues that he just doesn’t give a s**T about. To me that speaks a lot about how kind of a person he truly is. His ego is so massive and he’s so all about proving he’s a man…hence all this hoopla about doing his own stunts, as if that’s what being a real man is all about. He’s not fooling anyone and I think his act is getting old.

Has anyone seen the pics of some new assistant the tabs are reporting he might be involved with? She looks so much like Katie Holmes that I had to do a double0take!

  17. MindlessContemplations says:

He does look good for his age. I wish he wasn’t involved in Scientology to such a frantic state. I will see this film. His movie with Emily Blunt was actually really really really good

  18. MrsNix says:

Man, I wish he wasn’t so crazy and so embedded with that nasty cult. They ruined him.

But does he not look awesome? I swear, he does not age, and he still has wonderful magnetism on screen. If he hadn’t thrown his life away to worship a space alien, he would still be making serious bank at the box office. It’s a shame.

As for a sequel to Top Gun: why? It wouldn’t be the same without Val Kilmer, anyway.
