Kim Kardashian spent about 24 hours in New Orleans and then she flew back to LA. She went to a NOLA birthday party for one of her superfans, a girl who goes by the social media name Myleeza Kardashian. Is that a cool thing to do? It seems like a Taylor Swift thing to do, to fly all that way just for a fan’s birthday party. As for these photos of Kim’s return at LAX – I think she looks really nice here. This is the cutest she’s looked during her pregnancy. She should try this style combo more often – a coordinated knee-length dress and simple, light coat.
Anyway, we discussed Kim’s book of selfies yesterday. According to Radar/Bookscan, Selfish was an utter publishing flop. But now sources tell Us Weekly that Selfish actually sold really well, especially overseas. It’s a sad day for America when one of our greatest exports is named Katface Kardashian.
Despite an Aug. 3 report that Nielsen Bookscan has logged sales of just 32,000 copies of Kim Kardashian’s 352-page selfie book, Selfish, the book publisher tells Us Weekly that sales are much higher.
“The Bookscan number of 30K floating around is not inaccurate but it represents a very small segment of our sales overall, which are very strong in non-bookstore specialty retailers, and international sales, neither of which report to Bookscan,” Pam Sommers, Executive Director of Publicity at Rizzoli, tells Us Weekly in a statement. “The book is, in fact, a significant success story as a benchmark of the phenomenon of self-portrait in the digital age.”
Sommers adds that the book — released in May — is actually now in its fourth printing, with total trade sales of approximately 125,000 copies, domestic and international. According to Sommers, Rizzoli even switched from an Asian printer to a U.S. printer to “shorten the delivery time to meet robust market demand for the book.”
Originally priced at $19.95, Selfish can now be bought at Barnes & Noble for $12 and on Amazon for around $10.
I actually didn’t know that Selfish was so cheap. Originally $20 for a coffee table book and now $10-12? That pretty affordable. Still, if you want a coffee table book you’ll enjoy for years to come, may I suggest Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry. That is seriously one of the best coffee tables books I’ve ever owned.

125,000 is still very very poor from someone who has 34 million twitter followers. Even if you take away 10% of that who could be industry people and another 10% who follow but really arent that bothered enough to be called a fan, that still leaves her with 25+ million followers.
Hell even if you take 50% of that away, it’s still a flop in terms of her brand.

It is so obviously a pillow bump. How can it possibly be denied?
It’s not a moon bump. I went to their web site and there’s just a little hole in the middle for a belly button. In some photos her belly really indents in the middle. She’s a different shape from a moon bump too. Her boobs are enormous, but the proof will be her feet swelling later on in the pregnancy. I don’t think she cares enough to fake a pregnancy. What would be the point? I don’t really think there is one. She would just say she’s using a surrogate and that would be it. She’s not the Queen of England trying to hide some secret pregnancy.
Other sites are covering the constantly changing shape of the bump with photos. The belly button has changed about 10 times now , the belly is either almost flat or huge, she will wear an outfit where you can see the top of a completely flat stomach(spanx can only change so much)……And yes while babies move and can change the shape of the bump this is too drastic and not consistent at all. And the rest of her body isn’t changing at all. Kim has the body type where she smells a French fry and gains weight ( im built smiliar to Kim *sigh*) so there’s no way she going to be pregnant and not gain everywhere. Im side eyeing this pregnancy for sure and im not saying either way but Time will tell. I don’t put anything past this Klan.

I don’t believe a word of it. This is just more fodder to make her more relevant than she truly is. Does anyone anywhere really know what the truth is behind this coven…if so please step forward with the goods.
I work for a large public library system in the Midwest. We have 18 branches and focus on having a popular materials collection (vs research materials). Popular authors (think Grisham, Patterson, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, etc) we will frequently buy 200+ copies. We own TWO copies of “Selfish”–both of which are sitting on the shelf at their respective branches not checked out. We had a copy at my branch, which has a large minority and immigrant population, so I figured it would get checked out frequently. But it just sat collecting dust for so long I finally sent it to a different branch just so I wouldn’t have to look at it anymore.
Why would “minorities and immigrants” be more inclined to check out Kim’s book? That’s insulting.
You might have wanted to wait for her to explain the meaning before drawing a negative conclusion. I paused as well but maybe the immigrant population is Armenian and they’re loyal to a fault for anything Armenian in nature. And maybe she’s noted that _insert type_ minorities in her area are attracted to books similar to this one. There’s a difference between empirical evidence and prejudice. Why don’t you just wait for her answer?
@Sea Dragon: Thankyou. My comment wasn’t meant to be insulting in any way. It was merely my viewpoint as a librarian who has worked in a variety of libraries for 15 years. I never implied that the readership of minorities is any less intelligent or significant, or that reading any particular book made that reader an idiot. As a librarian I think anyone who walks thru my doors and checks out any book is great! In that vein, a huge part of my job is to determine WHAT people are reading, or more specifically, WHO is reading WHAT. I have worked at my current branch for 5yrs. It is located just around the corner from the immigration offices for the county, and over 80 different nationalities are represented in my patron base (how coll is that?!). My previous branch was only a few miles away from my current location, but was located in a small pocket of (very) rich white people–their most circulated sections are Travel and Mysteries, with an amazing collection of art books. Is mentioning that insulting? The branch before that was 10 miles away, but in a suburban environment with many home schooling families-#1 collection there is Romance. To say that each location has it’s own unique mixture of patrons and reading preferences isn’t offensive–it’s true. Is there some overlap? Of course. But it’s my job to figure out what is going to circulate best at different locations. Kim Kardashian’s fan base consists primarily of non-Americans, Blacks, and white teen girls. A town out in the middle of nowhere that is 95% white farmers that read mostly inspirational fiction is not the Kardashian fan base, so the likelihood of her book getting it’s maximum number of circulations at that branch is lower than it would be at my urban branch. My point was that her book isn’t circulating ANYWHERE in my entire county, and I only offered up this information to support the suggestion that her book is flopping.
But to me it was insulting and I have a right to state how I feel. Why would I “wait for her/him to answer” when I didn’t even know if she/he would come back to read my comment ??? Also, immigrants can be “white”…hello immigrants come from Europe as well and start a new life in America. The Kardashians want to cater to rich kids who spend their parent’s money…those rich kids could be white, black, asian, latin, etc. It’s about the color green.

Whether a book is successful completely depends on whether the publishing company judged the numbers right. Sold 10,000 copies? That’s wonderful–provided they only printed 10,000 copies. If they printed 100,000 copies, then it’s a disaster.
For a celebrity book, they would have been expecting to sell a lot. Whether Selfish sold enough to not be a disappointment is debatable, but the fact there has been more than one print run (assuming the Kardashian empire of lies is not feeding us BS here) implies the publisher did NOT make any errors.
It does seem from the number of runs that the publisher has been proceeding cautiously rather than having a large run initially. So maybe they weren’t so stupid about overestimating the sales potential – they may not have let loose with a large payment, either, but just a percentage of the profits. That way they can’t be burned. They are probably aware that the figures could be manipulated by Kanye and the Kardashian Empire stockpiling a large number of the books, and so they didn’t leap to large print runs. If the book price dropped down so low (pretty incredibly low for a book of this type), that makes it even easier for the Empire to stockpile. I wonder what the prices are in other countries?
So the Overseas sales are big, compared to the US numbers, but they switch to a US printing house anyway?

The US price is so low (even as low as $8), hard to see how they could produce an image-heavy book so cheaply in the U.S. Or is it possible today?

Yes, remember Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy issue? The orders were normal but they got a lot of returns, so it wasn’t selling as well as the holiday issue usually did. It takes a while to figure the true sales figures.
