Chris Evans was super wired at the Disney D23 Marvel presentation this weekend

You guys know how I am about monitoring Chris Evans’ energy levels. A bit obsessed, perhaps, but it’s all good. At Saturday’s edition of the Disney 323 expo, Marvel did their thing. The big focus of the presentation was some Captain America 3: Civil War footage, but what is more interesting to me is the way Evans enjoyed himself onstage. Granted, the guy loves Disney far too much. He’s almost as bad as Ryan Gosling about taking dates to Disneyland. He also tweets his hardcore love of Disneyworld as a proud, 30-year-old man who fangirls on Mickey Mouse.

At the expo, Anthony Mackie took the stage a few moments before Evans. He didn’t mention grabbing Chris a mom-like date this time, but Mackie said the two had flown overnight from Germany (where they’re still filming Civil War). You’d think these guys would be exhausted, or maybe they slept on the plane. Maybe Marvel shot them both full of vitamin B before the presention. I hope that’s the case because Evans didn’t act like a drunkface, but the dude was wired. Here’s a video of Evans getting unnaturally excited about how he likes watching YouTube videos of other people’s Disney vacations.

And here’s a backstage video where maybe Evans is a little sloshy. Whatcha think?

a lil’ drunk maybe….as long as there were no kids there no harm no foul?

  2. Lilacflowers says:

Jet lag. He looks like he’s falling asleep at one point.

  3. lisa2 says:

He has that Bradley Cooper face..they both look “incomplete” without facial hair.. I just don’t find either of them attractive without a bit of scruff. He always looks so waxy.. like a mannequin come to life.

    • ncboudicca says:

I agree with you, but I’m having a hard time getting above his biceps to even look at his face in these photos!

    • teacakes says:

To me, he’s only attractive in character as Steve Rogers/Cap.

Though the facial hair isn’t bad at all, I rather fancied him in Snowpiercer – maybe if it was a different kind of movie….

  4. Kath says:

I really like Anthony Mackie for some reason. He’s given the Captain America franchise a bit of a shot in the arm.

  5. Snazzy says:

He seems like a big dork who got über famous and doesn’t know how to manage it.
I find that oddly appealing …

    • Lara K says:

      This.

He reminds me of Blake Lively a little bit – people who are really better of living a simpler, non famous life and just don’t know how to deal.

I keep hoping he will meet a nice normal girl who will ground him a bit and indulge his inner dork. But alas I don’t think he is stable enough at the moment.

  6. embertine says:

I see this as jetlag + anxiety + too much coffee. He’s not obviously high or drunk like on previous press junkets. I don’t care, he looks a little like he’s wearing a Star Trek uniform and I am into it.

Mackie looks just incredibly good in that suit. Damn son.

  7. Elizabeth says:

I have heard a ton of stories about Chris enjoying his alcohol and c*caine a little too much. In that first picture looks like he’s really high! He needs to slow down or he’ll end up in rehab.

    • Nessa says:

I don’t think he’s high here. He’s definitely acting weird, but I don’t think it’s anything but too much coffee and a bit of jetlag. He has addressed the fact that he has anxiety at these things, so I think his way of diffusing that is acting like the big goofball he is. He is one of those hot, dorky guys that can’t contain himself… He is almost literally like a 12 year old, especially at Disney.

However, during much of the AOU promotional tour… He was Drunky McDrunkface. That was quite obvious.

    • Dani says:

      Coke? That’s a first.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if he dabbles in cocaine when he’s out partying but he doesn’t seem high at all to me here. Let’s face it, Evans is way too neurotic and high-strung to do cocaine at a Disney Expo.

      • Izzy says:

Actually, there is a Chris Evans in the UK who is a recovering addict and cocaine was his drug of choice. Because the UK Chris Evans had such a public battle with addiction, it’s easy to start rumors about habitual drug use with the US Chris Evans.

    • Ashling says:

I don’t think he ‘s high here. He loves Disney to an enormous degree. He can still sing the songs the the Little Mermaid…

    • sunrise says:

He is a huge COKE head! My really good friend is a celebrity bodyguard and has witnessed him doing lines numerous times!

  8. Naddie says:

Maybe he’s high, or just too much coffee.

  9. MrsBPitt says:

I think Chris was definetly a little buzzed, add that with being tired and jet lagged! That’s okay, as a person who is terrfied to fly, I believe, I always get off a plane a little buzzed! At least he wasnt wasted! He and Mackie, seem to genuinely like each other…they both seem like cool guys!

  10. Izzy says:

I know I’m a bit of an apologist for My Cap Ass, but he doesn’t seem drunk here so much as jet lagged. Considering how far he flew, he’s been working, and he got off a plane and went to work at D23 with no downtime… I’m also prone to slurring a bit when I’m exhausted, and he still had to be “on” for the cameras here.

  11. Mia4S says:

Seems like a bit of an act honestly. His directorial debut was a bust so it’s part of being a good company man. I won’t knock him if that’s the case, he’s being well paid.

    • Marianne says:

his directorial debut wasn’t really a “bust”. It successfully got a distributor last year after it premiered at TIFF. And it got fairly good reviews. Nothing outstanding, but some solid B’s. It also has a rating of 7.2 on imdb. So that doesn’t really seem like a “bust” to me. I think he’s doing better as a director than Ryan Gosling is.

    • Ashling says:

Well, he has a long history of being a Disney fan even before Disney bought Marvel. You can find old YouTube videos of him talking about Disney and even singing songs from various movies. I don’t think he’s saying this just to be a good company man (although he IS).

  12. MonicaQ says:

I think it’s jet lag and coffee + trying to not be super anxious. I have an anxiety disorder and I always tend to “over do it” when I’m in situations similar to this e.g. parties, presenting, that sort of thing.

  13. Rice says:

Eh.. I don’t see anything wrong with loving Disney. My hubby absolutely loves Disney World and he’s 38. Come to think of it, so do I.

The Mack Daddy is wearing the hell out of that suit!

    • Lilacflowers says:

My brother in law gets more excited about going to Disney than his kids do

      • Rice says:

Funny story – my hubby never wanted to go to Disney World.

“That’s for kids”, he’d say and turn up his nose. Now he’s all, “When are we going back to Disney?!!!!”

    • Chinoiserie says:

I wish I had been at D23 myself, there is not such thing as loving Disney too much!

But Evans acts a bit wierd occasionally, but apparently he has some anxiety issues so it could be merely because of that.

    • H says:

I live 35 minutes from Disney and when they announced Star Wars Land was going to be built I did a dance like I was 10 years old! Nothing wrong with loving The Mouse as we call him here in Florida.

  14. Dunne says:

A friend of mine used to serve at TIFF and told me a story one time about Chris Evans spending an entire night in the basement of a bar doing coke and having servers bring people downstairs to party with him.

  15. QQ says:

He needs to tone down his corny ass LOL Seems like whatever stimulants he is on he went a bridge too far ( i also sincerely dont see it for this dude- least appealing of our Chris Overlords)

Anthony Mackie Though!!!! MMMM MMM Good

  16. Tig says:

Yep a bit frazzled from jet lag- can’t imagine functioning after a Germany to Calif flight. Totally off topic- Sebastian Stan was beyond cute in Ricki and the Flash. Whoever did wardrobe for that movie definitely did right by him! Hope for lots of screen time in Civil War for these three!

    • Lilacflowers says:

He was very pretty in Ricki and I kept wanting more of him

      • Tig says:

How much fun do you think he was having when he was on stage rocking out with Rick Springfield? I may have to get the soundtrack😃!

  17. Lila says:

I find Chris ridiculously endearing and sweet. Maybe it’s all a PR act constructed to make us love him? Either way he’s adorable and can go from cutie to sex god in 2 seconds.

    • Maria A. says:

I think it makes and keeps him human and I’m all for that. The alternative is him becoming too ‘serious’ and self-important, but so long as he’s just geekin’ out about what he does – and he seems to know how lucky he is to be able to do all this – and keeps being a big kid about Disneyland/world, then more power to him.

  18. Abby_J says:

We are Disney fanatics. I feel his pain. We’ve gone before kids, with kids, and even by ourselves as a couple since having kids (although those trips usually involve running some obscene distance for an overpriced Disney medal. Haha!) .

I think Chris Evans is just hyper by nature. Not saying alcohol is never involved, but I think he has probably always been like that, and will be.

  19. Jen43 says:

I find both of these guys super appealing. That is, physically, super appealing. I have a feeling their personalities are too bro-ish for me.

  20. iheartjacksparrow says:

    @Bedhead – It’s D23 not 323.

  21. Alex says:

If anyone ever met me after a long flight they would think I was on drugs. After flying internationally I’m always wired and ready to go explore. After a few hours I crash…HARD. It never fails

    • teacakes says:

Same here! I’m all perky on the flight and might even sneak 2-3 hours of sleep, and make sure to stay well hydrated – no alcohol, etc etc.

But once I’m on the ground, that b*tch jet lag ALWAYS comes to get me. 8 hours and no sleep later spent wandering around Sainsbury’s like a zombie because my brain won’t decide what food to get…..pretty sure I’d get the ‘she’s on drugs’ assessment too.

    • Maria A. says:

I have definitely been wired on lack of sleep and way too much caffeine from a concentrated dose of British morning tea, so I get it.
