Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Tasha McCauley welcome a secret baby boy

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The title of this post sounds like some comic-book movie operative, but it’s true! Over the Christmas holiday last year, Joseph Gordon-Levitt secretly married his secret girlfriend, Tasha McCauley. Word leaked out a week later, yet the two got hitched without any sort of publicity. They sort of made an official acknowledgment but only after everyone found out. Tasha isn’t a celebrity, and the two are rarely seen out together (although she certainly would look fetching on the red carpet). She’s a CEO of a tech company, Fellow Robots. She’s brilliant, apparently, and oh-so-secretive.

Now another secret major life event has happened for Regular Joe. By way of Daily Mail, an offline Us Weekly article confirms a new addition to the family:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s wife Tasha McCauley gave birth to a baby boy.

The couple, who married in a secret ceremony on December 20, welcomed their new bundle of joy in mid-August.

An insider told Us Weekly ‘everyone is happy and healthy’ following the birth of the newlywed’s first child.

[From Daily Mail]

Such mystery is unheard of in celebrity land, but JGL always was a different kind of former child star. He’s only seen when promoting projects, and his wife is a busy, driven, professional woman. And now they’ve accomplished a seemingly unachievable feat by gestating an entire pregnancy in secret. We’ll probably never learn this child’s name, right? Congratulations, and well played.

  3. Penelope says:

JGL is SO freaking cute and seems so “normal.” Good luck to them!

  4. Beth No. 2 says:

I still have a soft spot for JGL, and the low-key way by which he conducts his private affairs just makes me like him more. Well played indeed, and congratulations.

  5. aims says:

Good for them!! Living their lives with out the BS.It can be done.

  6. DTX says:

Boooooooo! My boyfriend got married :'(

I’ve loved JGL since I was a little girl (he’s my age) and always thought he’d make the only acceptable hollywood husband…because he isn’t very hollywood to begin with!

Anyway! Congrats JGL and lucky wife!

  7. Chichi says:

Wasnt he supposedly in angsty on/off thing with Michael Pitt? Damn you Blind Gossip for lying to me yet again.

    • Abbott says:

I thought that was Chace Crawford?

      • Chichi says:

Pretty sure Chace Crawfords dramatic love-thing was with Ed Westwick, but then you never know. Perhaps all four were in a passionate, anguish-ridden polyamorous relationship with each other, the sluts. Perhaps theres even a sex tape…

    • Magpie says:

That was a lainey blind and she pretty much said it was him.

  8. Abbott says:

I think I’ve hit Peak Gossip for the day.

  9. QQ says:

Would You Look at That.. It CAN be Done!! We DON’T Have to know your Business!! see Jennifer Garner and rest of Mafia Moms?? I STILL can’t tell you the names or faces of a Handful of celebrity kids!! ( Anna Paquin, Rachel Evan Woods, Matt Damon..)

    • jaye says:

Right?? And it’s not like you don’t see the actors you’ve named out and about. They just don’t use their kids as props.

      • meme says:

Exactly. Celebrities who say they can’t have a private family life are full of it. Meryl Streep did it. Julia Roberts is doing it. Spielberg, Damon, Denzel etc….

      • QQ says:

YUP! SHIT Even Will Smith and Ozzy Osbourne have Non Thirsty Kids that don’t want to be a part of it at all and we don’t even know what they look like! when you see/know their kids Is PRECISELY cause they want us to and they are advancing a certain viewpoint and narrative

    • lucy2 says:

Yes! These are high profile celebrities, and still manage to keep their children’s lives (and their own) private. They don’t drag them down red carpets or share personal information to the media. If I were a celebrity, I would try to do the same thing.

I forgot JGL even got married. Congrats to them!

    • lunchcoma says:

No kidding. It isn’t even like Gordon-Levitt spends most of his time on some ranch in the middle of nowhere. He lives in LA. Yet somehow we never seem to see pictures of him going grocery shopping or to the gym. It’s almost as if there’s an entire city where he can easily be ignored if he avoids that one Whole Foods and that one yoga studio. I’m going to guess we won’t be seeing his kid at that one pumpkin patch, either.

      • Carey says:

LOL @ the pumpkin patch, those pics are the worst, starting with Christina Aguilera pimping her son after her split became public.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

So true. Plus it’s much easier, because the paparazzi are lazy these days. I remember watching a docu-series about them before the internet gossip era and they would hunt down celebs like crazy, hiding in their trees, following their children to kindergarten etc. Now we live in an era of the Kardashians and Hilary Duffs, who have paparazzi on speed dial. Why would the paps stalk people who hate them, when their phones are ringing all the time and those celebs who don’t inform them of their whereabouts, constantly hang out around that one Whole Foods, or that particular farmer’s market or The Nice Guy, Chateau Mormont or a Pumpkin Patch in the fall. And they can always photograph others at LAX or around the movie/tv set. They only move their backsides, when there are big money to be made – when something particularly juicy or tragic happens, but they don’t even care enough to stalk Chris Martin and J-Law, which says a lot. People like JGL don’t have to hide, I would strongly argue with calling them secretive – they just live peacefully and don’t have that famewhore streak in them.

    • JWQ says:

I like JGL and I agree that compared to the usual celebrities he’ s great regarding privacy, but one think I will never understand is why did he need to tell the journalists that he got married and that he had a kid in the first place. If you really want to stay away from that s**t, why make it public? If you really think that your private life isn’ t THAT interesting, why think that you need to call the paps and inform them about what happens off the screen? It’ s not mandatory.

      • jaye says:

It seems more like the story was leaked by an ‘insider’ instead of JGL issuing a statement. I doubt the ‘insider’ was his press team as it doesn’t seem like he rolls that way.

      • Mieke says:

        Blabbers gonna blab!

If you ask me if I’m married I will tell you that I am. If I would deny it, I would be lying and completely disregarding my husband, when actually I’m very proud of him. That would be odd. I guess he feels the same way?

      • JWQ says:

You don’ t ask a person if s/he is married if you don’ t have hints that s/he has a relationship and might get married. No one knew he was dating, why asking him if he was married? He wasn’ t casually asked during an interview. He released a statement saying that he got married. This, to be honest, seems the same. The insider the article talks about, to me, is either part of his pr team or someone who did it with his approval. He kept secret his girlfriend before the marriage, which means that his friends and relatives are not the famewhorish kind that go to a magazine to spill the beans. So I guess it’ s all from him.

    • boredblond says:

What? No media hype? He clearly isn’t Kardashian/Klooney material 😏

  10. InvaderTak says:

Congrats, JGL! Kudos on the secrecy dude.

  11. jaye says:

More proof that you can be a major celebrity and have a private life.

  12. OhDear says:

Congrats to him on the whippersnapper and well done on keeping things private!

  13. MP says:

Just because it was private doesn’t mean it was a secret. I hate it when media talks about “secret weddings” and yet mentions how the family and friends were there. If they had eloped without telling anyone then it would be a secret.
It’s normal not to send out a press release about getting married or having a baby.

    • PrettyBlueFox says:

Agreed. And unless his wife was Garbo-ing it in their house for the entire pregnancy (unlikely since she has a real job to go to), their baby wasn’t a “secret” either. It just means they and their family/friends/co-workers don’t go running to the media to report every single life event.

    • Dara says:

+1 to the private vs. secret. Just because a celeb doesn’t have reporters on speed dial or call the paps to shadow their every move doesn’t mean they were going out of their way to hide something. In reality they were probably just living their lives, and the showbiz press folk were too lazy or focused on other things to notice.

It feels like the press does sometimes do some CYA after something like this is discovered waaay after the fact – it happened when Kerry Washington got married too – it’s like they have to pretend the celeb was actively trying to hide something, otherwise it looks like the reporters (or their sources) aren’t as in-the-know as they like to pretend.

  14. Tacos and TV says:

He’s adorable and a fine actor. Good for him! I respect actors/actresses/musicians, or other famous types, who treat this as a job rather than famewhore and celebrity themselves. I really do. It’s refreshing. Like “Yeah, I promote my movie. I will make the movie. I’ll do a magazine and interviews. But this is a career, not my life.”

  15. WallFlower says:

Congrats JGL! He’s another one of my past boyfriends in my head, lol.

  16. Murphy says:

Congratulations, I’m a big fan. Very proud of how they’re able to live a normal life.

  17. Ronda says:

to be fair its easier when the celeb is male and his partner is lowkey.

    • Carey says:

True but Eva Mendes pulled it off and she was even photographed while pregnant but managed to hide the belly.

  18. Naggy Pants says:

I loved him on Third Rock from the Sun. That was a great show and funny as hell.

  19. Lilo says:

    Did…did they name him Culkin?

  20. I Choose Me says:

Congrats! He’s one of my faves and I wish he and his wife and new baby joy.

  21. Jessiebes says:

Ohh that’s nice. Congrats to the family.

  22. Down and Out says:

She’s not CEO of Fellow Robots, btw. That would be Marco Mascorro.

  23. noob says:
