I was so disappointed with AH: Freak Show that I can’t sacrifice my time to watch this season religiously especially since the Dame aka Jessica Lange won’t be in this season, but I may still DVR and binge watch to check out Lady Gaga’s acting chops and fashion.

    • Jorts says:

The boyfriend and I had to stop watching AHS towards the end of the first season. In the beginning we enjoyed the show’s gory campiness but it became tiresome as it tried to outdo itself with excessively outlandish plotlines. I guess that’s the point of the show, but it was just too much for us old folks to take. That being said, we both agreed that Lange was the best part of the show. It was almost bad having her paired with so many amateurish actors because her epic screen presence served to emphasize their mediocrity.

On another note, I binge-watched Bates Motel when I was sick this past winter and I had similar feelings about it. But I am now a DIE-HARD Vera Farmiga fan. She is just f*cking fantastic in the role of Norma Bates.

      • Skins says:

There are at least 3 Oscar winners in the cast

      • Jorts says:

Four Oscar-winners on the first season? Mmmmmm I don’t think so.

        Care to name them?

      • mimif says:

I think Skins meant overall: Lange, Gabourey Sidibe and Kathy Bates. But creepy dude in the latex suit from Season 1 was totally robbed of an Oscar.

      • Skins says:

My bad, Lange and Bates won, Angela Bassett and Gabourey Sidibe were nominated. Still a great cast

      • Matador says:

        Sidibe isn’t an Oscar winner.

      • Jorts says:

Ok but my comment was only about *part* of the first season.Pigs aren’t flying out of my ass so I know Dylan McDermott didn’t win an Oscar.

I never made it as far as when Bates, Bassett, et al were on it.

      • mimif says:

I think we should fight about it.

      • That’s what it does…..the first few episodes are amazing/fun….and then it goes into a caricature of outlandishness…

      • mimif says:

I disagree with you, VC. I think it is an incredibly well crafted show that’s totally worthy of an entire cast of Oscar winners/nominees.

      • @mimif
I think the actors are amazing, but the storyline just veers too far, imo. But I don’t really like horror, etc, to begin with……..so I can only take it in small doses, but yea.

Coven is my favorite season…..I like Asylum after that.

      • mimif says:

VC I was just teasing ya! Show is campy AF. 😉

“the first few episodes are amazing/fun….and then it goes into a caricature of outlandishness… ”
That’s the Ryan Murphy Special. Every single show he’s done has had that problem. I think he’s good at coming up with ideas, but has no ability to follow through more than a few episodes.

I gave AHS 2 tries – season one and the witches season. Both started off good and had such potential and turned into crapfests by the end. No more, despite the talented actors they somehow still seem to attract. I will not waste my time on it again.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

Me too. The singing absolutely killed it for me. Most of the time the songs felt so arbitrary and took away from the feeling of submersion in 1950’s time period it was supposed to be set in. The 1st season was absolutely the best in my opinion and things slowly went downhill from there. Now that Gaga is in it, it’s probably going to be the most musical one yet. Barf.

      • FLORC says:

I sort of hated how it was more about Lange’s goodbye than anything else…
Ugh. Easily Freak Show was the worst season yet. And it had so much potential! Casting also seemed like just small introductions for this Hotel cast.

1st season was good. 2nd season more messed up, but better overall. 3rd… Had it’s (I can’t watch) moments. Mostly between messed up mothers and their sons… But 4th? Ugh! It can only improve. And while I hope less musical numbers… I know they will. And I know the Hotel theme is loaded with possibilities it’s going to be a cluster…ck jamming them all in rather than picking the best that make the most sense.

      • Crumpet says:

They are SINGING? Oh good lord. I watched the first season and loved it. By the second season they had already jumped the shark, and I was done with it. And now it sounds like that is a good thing.

    • fee says:

Same here Cali, like the Dame you put before The Great Jessica Long, she made the show for me. I don’t want to take away from the rest of the original cast but she had that factor that you cannot copy. By bringing in Gaga, they lost me, I find it disrespectful to the rest of the cast. Hope she makes it for the next. But I’m with you, don’t see myself following it.

Lady’s face in first pic and dude’s face in 2nd pic. The End.

  3. aims says:

Freak show was a bust for me. I’m watching the first season now on Netflix. It is the best one IMO. Plus, Evan is a hottie.

    • Here or there says:

      THIS.
While the 4th season was better than the 3rd (Are you the supreme? Maybe I’m the supreme!), it lacked the oooomfff that the 1st and 2nd seasons had. Come to think of it, I didn’t even finish watching the 4th season.

    • iheartjacksparrow says:

Asylum was the best season. And I agree about Evan; I’ll keep watching as long he stays with AHS.

      • elizabeth says:

I completely agree that Asylum was the best season but the first season was good too. They started losing me with Coven despite the most wonderful and talented Kathy Bates (Liiiiiiies). It was all over the place and never found its footing but I hung in there til the end even though by the end, I wanted them all to die a tragic and permanent death. I had to bail on the last season before we were even half way through. The first two seasons there were at least one or two characters left to root for but they’ve been disappearing fast.

      • Josefa says:

Yeah, Asylum was fantastic. But I’m weird when it comes to AHS. I loved Coven and Freakshow. They were a lot of fun despite the lazy writing. Murder House for me were just 12 episodes of nothing and soooo predictable. Plus the acting (minus Jessica Lange,Evan Peters and the goddess that is Frances Conroy) was sooooo bad.

      • koko says:

+1 to the Asylum season, it was the best. I liked the first season and freakshow but was not thrilled with coven.

      • FLORC says:

I’m so glad i’m not the only 1 thinking these things.
Coven though… I liked. It had some weird moments, but myrtle was amazing! And the short periods of comic relief was nice after such a dark season like Asylum.
The only issue Coven. The damn Sara and Jessica duo. The good and bad balance they try. It was too obvious right away Paulson was to play the supreme with Lange the current one.

      • Lostara says:

I also think “Asylum” was the best season, followed by season 1 (how is that called in english? Did it even have a name apart from “American Horror Story”?) I started to watch “Coven”, but that started great and then became quite a nonsense imo.
But at least, “Coven” made me interested in Marie LaVeau…. 😉

Didn’t watch “Freak Show”, I am not sure if that was on German tv already. Won’t watch “Hotel” – without Jessica Lange, it is not AHS to me anymore.

      • Marianne says:

        Asylum was my favourite too.

    • Kiddo says:

I’m out. They start with a decent storyline and somewhere along the way, they KILL it, the story takes a beating with a slow boring death.

  5. KLM says:

All I have to say is I love the colour of that dress

  6. Eleonor says:

I love the dress and the jewel-encrusted hand.

  7. Claire says:

I think the problem was the RM let Jessica Lange dictate too much of what was going on – I’m hoping without her, it will go back to being better.

She’s a fantastic actress, but Freak Show was her baby and it was weird.

  8. nicegirl says:

I cannot read her poker face

  9. funcakes says:

Love Jessica Lange’s version of Lana del Rey’s “Gods and Monsters”. Every time I go on you tube I have to play it.
Waiting for tickets to go on sale for” Long days journey into night” on Broadway. She will be excellent as usual.

  10. tallo says:

I love AHS it won’t be the same without the epicness of Jessica Lange

    • JWQ says:

I don’ t know, unlike the other actors, Jessica Lange has played the same character (a woman who wants to be younger, with delusions of grandeur, a desire to be under the spotlight, and psychotic tendencies) in every season she has appeared in, so I’ m not particularly sad to see her gone, because I can bet my ass she would’ ve done the same thing in Hotel as well.

She was great, mind you, but the point of an anthology series like this is to have the actors play different characters, or at the very least, play similar character in a different setting a couple of times, and I think it was her and RM’ s fault in equal measures.

As much as I loathe Emma Roberts, and as much as I think she is a terrible actress, at least she was given two different characters to play.

      • Josefa says:

I agree. I’ll miss Lange, for sure. Even if all her characters were slight variations of the same thing, she was a blast to watch, and it’ll be weird to see her not leading. But on the other hand, I think this may be the chance for other cast members to truly shine. I think Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett are both equally capable of making characters real and human enough to feel for them, while ridiculous and campy enough to not take them so seriously (which is what AHS aims for, I think).

Rhonda Rousey vs Donald Trump? #shutupandtakemymoney

  12. Incognito says:

I loved the first season of AHS. The second season was really good but it felt like they tried to throw too much into one season: nazis, the devil, aliens, insanity, a serial killer. I could have done without the alien angle. I liked the third season too, although it was weaker than the previous two, I still liked it better than asylum. I tried to watch freak show and couldn’t do it. And Lange’s singing did nothing for me. It felt like AHS married and had babies with Glee.

I will give hotel a chance but not going to expect anything. RM does a great show for a couple seasons and then it usually goes to hell while he focuses on his next project, which is Scream Queens.

    • FLORC says:

Murphy is forever so talented with the 1st few seasons of all his shows. That’s why I thought AHS would thrive. It’s like the 1st season every season! And then it seems to be progressing like it’s 1 season after the other… Shame.
and Scream Queens looks ok… i’ll watch it if it comes to netflfix..

  13. Starrywonder says:

OT but did anyone else notice Wine and Sass closed?

  14. Susie 1of 3 says:

I thought the picture was of Tori Spelling, with heavy eye make up, until I read the title.

  15. miasys says:

Gaga has a really intense Brienne of Tarth vibe going on. I likey!

  16. Mary s says:

I love the dress, but I think it would look better on someone with a longer neck. Gaga looks really flat in these pics. I don’t think she’s carrying off the dress, cape, and heavy jewelry very well. They seem to be wearing her instead of the other way around.

  17. Madpoe says:

Can’t wait for the new season. Freak Show left me disappointed. So much could’ve been done! So far my faves was the Coven and the Asylum.
Fingers crossed for Lady tho’ 🙂
