Will Michael Fassbender be a single guy for his autumn promo work?

fassy macbeth

There are some bits and pieces of news and updates about Michael Fassbender, and right about now, I need some Fassy. Don’t you? This ^^ is the just-released new one-sheet poster for Fassy’s Macbeth. We saw the first trailer back in June. I think this version of Macbeth looks pretty decent, although it probably isn’t something I would go to see in theaters. Macbeth will be released in December in America, although there’s a good chance it will have a limited release in the UK in October.

Fassy will be all over the place in the coming months – Jobs comes out October 9th, but will have a big premiere at the New York Film Festival one week earlier, then it will have a UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 18th. The film is actually closing out the BFI Festival. People expect The Light Between Oceans to come out in December, although an official release date has not been set, and the film isn’t on the schedule for any of the fall film festivals (yet). So… yeah, especially in late September and throughout October, we’ll be seeing a lot of Fassbender. Yay!

Then if TLBO does get a hard December release, we’ll see more of him then too. As you probably remember, I absolutely loathed the book, so while I think Fassy is decent casting for the lead character, I’m not at all interested in the film adaptation. The Light Between Oceans was where he met and fell for Alicia Vikander as well. A few weeks ago, I noted that Alicia flew solo in New York while promoting The Man From UNCLE and I wondered aloud if she and Fassy were done. Now it seems that Star Magazine is claiming that they ARE done. We’ll have more on that tomorrow, I promise!

Here are some new images & posters for Jobs.

  1. Kitten says:

Yay Fassy! Thanks, Kaiser. I needed this after all the gross Duggar stuff.

Alicia and Fassbender are such an unexciting couple. I hope they’re done and he can move on to someone new.

As resistant as I am to another Steve Jobs movie (ugh), I would give this one a chance because of Fassy and Boyle. And Sorkin is ok too.

    • LadyMTL says:

I second Kitten’s “yay”…more Fassy, less Duggar is always good to see. Fassy can move on to me any day of the week, even if he does sometimes come off as a bit of an as*hat. 😛

I would love to see him in Macbeth but I don’t know if it’s even getting a release date here in Canadaland, sigh. I’m not that interested in the Steve Jobs movie, though, so I’ll probably pass on that.

    • jammypants says:

Sorkin’s views on women are problematic and disappointing. I debated passing this film up because of him alone.

  2. ell says:

so excited for his upcoming films, he chooses brilliant projects.

i don’t give a crap if he’s still dating that alicia girl because while I think he’s a great actor, I think privately is a mess and unappealing to me, but they could probably both do better.

    • Renee says:

Agree about the upcoming movies. Can’t Wait for Macbeth and will give Steve Jobs a shot – mostly because of Kate Winslet.

      • ell says:

oh yeah, I also love kate so looking forward to that.

      • ichsi says:

Kate is the only thing interesting about that movie imo. I still think Fassbender was completely miscast and the more I see of this movie the more I loathe it.

But Vikander and he are still together. She finished the promotion tour alone but they went to some birthday (or wedding?) of a friend of his together afterwards . It wasn’t an “official Hollywood” event (if I was a mean person I’d say it was ignored because it doesn’t fit the fake relationship narrative) but there are pics floating around the web. Their slightly creepy relationship is still going strong.

      • ichsi says:

@Lisa Yep, that and the fact that she was his young, relatively unknown co-star when they met. To me there’s something off in their power dynamic that leaves me uncomfortable. Nothing major, I just can’t bring myself to find their relationship ‘awww, how romantic’.

    • danielle says:

Why creepy? I don’t know anything about their relationship.

      • lisa says:

I think ichsi is talking about their looks. The age difference is ten years, more or less, but Fassy looks older and she looks younger.

      • Isadora says:

It’s funny just how judgemental people are. When there’s an age gap everyone is quick to point out how “gross” that is, even if nobody has to find it great except the people involved. And when the age gap isn’t even that pronounced, they are quick to point how it’s still “creepy” because the people involved look a certain way to them. Maybe Fassy looks older, but to me Alicia looks like a pretty girl in her mid-20s. How’s she supposed to look at that age? Wrinkly? And even if she would look indeed younger – is she not allowed to date who she likes, just because nature happened to give her a certain look? She’s 26 years old and a working actress for 10+ years. I’m sure she has quite a bit of life experience by now and knows her own mind. By claiming that their “power dynamic” is off because she’s younger and female I feel like people automatically assume women in their 20s can’t be self assured and are easily manipulated by older men. That feels actually slightly insulting to all the strong mid-20s women out there.

  3. Mia4S says:

Maybe. Maybe not. But she’ll be filming that Bourne movie so you likely won’t see much of her either way except for the Danish Girl stuff she’ll be obligated to do. The tabloids will be able to run with this for months.

  4. Eugenie says:

Nah. Don’t believe it. I think they are in this until either the promo of their movie or the conclusion of the award season.

Did we ever get a coming out of a fancy expensive grocery pap stroll with $400 worth of groceries or did Kaley and Henry ruin that for everyone? Let me stop. I don’t believe this was completely a PR romance. I think they dig each other and are having sexy times but I also think they are killing 2 birds with one Harvey Weinstein.

    • Mia4S says:

Weinstein? It’s a Dreamworks movie. Also Weinstein is burying MacBeth in North America (partnered with Amazon (?)) and doesn’t have a cent in Jobs.

Cute conspiracy theory, makes no sense though.

  5. Iknowwhatboyslike says:

The poster for Macbeth is everything. He looks hot. I do hope he’s finished with Alicia. She’s a bit boring and I hated her acting in A Royal Affair.

As for the Jobs movie, is the horrible Jobs movie that every actor passed on? Or is it a different version? From the Sony hack emails, I was under the impression that there were more than one version.

  6. Tiffany27 says:

Here for Macbeth. It looks amazing!

  7. funcakes says:

Black Mass and Macbeth! I’m in heaven!

  8. Beth No. 2 says:

Well it seems like their movie together, The Light Between The Oceans, is not going anywhere in terms of awards potential, so contract over?

Steve Jobs looks rather dull but I’m keen to see The Danish Girl.

  9. Lilacflowers says:

Ah, Fassy! I always feel like I need a shower whenever i see him but it is a much more pleasurable shower than those the Duggars and ilk necessitate.

    • Velvet, Crushed says:

I always feel like I need to purge whatever asceticism has been sullying my existence and have a shower with him, but to each his own. Also, we of Thornfield have spring water super-jet showers which are also environmentally considerate, right?

  10. M.A.F. says:

Well, his relationships seem to last only a year so it this seems about right.

  11. NUTBALLS says:

I love that some of my favorite Brits have two movies coming out this awards season… red carpets! Festivals! Interviews! I’m looking forward to Jobs and MacBeth, for him and his leading ladies.

Since Fassy has shown less interest in Oscar campaigning in the past, it may not be huge motivator to keep a relationship with Alicia going if things are working out. I’ll be curious if this rumor proves to be true since they were spotted together this summer.

  12. A mascarada says:

He’s looking like Ed Harris in that first picture as Steve Jobs!

I’ll see as much of Fassy as I can in the theaters in the upcoming months.

  13. Esteph says:

I am such a weirdo, because I love his side profile….

Anywho, I’m really looking forward to Macbeth and watching the onscreen chemistry/relationship with Marion’s character.

  14. Kate says:

In order for Star Magazine to run and print the story that Alicia and Michael are done, they’d have to get their gossip over four days ago, and Alicia LITERALLY was just on vacation in Malta where Assassin’s Creed is being filmed FIVE days ago. That’s cutting it really, really close, so forgive me if I think this story is bullshit. And they attended his friend’s wedding together like a week and a half ago.

I do think that they’ll break up this fall. Between all their different promotional obligations and filming two movies, they just won’t have time to see each other.

    • Chichi says:

      @Kate

How do you know so much about their whereabouts? Not a shady question at all, genuinely curious.

      • petitehirondelle says:

i was going to ask the same

      • Kate says:

There’s a Fassbender blog on tumblr that’s pretty rabidly anti-Alicia but is constantly updating on both of their whereabouts. This person posted links to twitter sightings of Michael in Malta and Instagram photos of Alicia hanging out with her friends. Alicia’s been in Sweden the past couple of days though, for a premiere and fashion week. Also, there were reports a few months ago that Assassin’s Creed would be filming in Malta.

  15. Nayru says:

For the sake of gender equality, I’m getting the impression he’s a total playboy which makes him significantly less attractive. Lastly, dating young costars is trite. I personally hate the idea of people being in real relationships with their screen romantic other. It makes me think they can’t act or distinguish their real lives from their acting roles.

  16. I Choose Me says:

I think they’re still together but why would Fassy parade Alicia around as some kind of PR promotional push? When has he ever done that? It’s just not his style.

I’ve noticed that every single celeb pairing is now being side-eyed as a ‘contract arrangement.’ And I just don’t buy it. If a couple is only seen together when they have something to promote then yeah, I can see how that might be suspect. But what’s the benefit to hanging out together or macking on each other when no cameras are around if it’s just a showmance?

    • petitehirondelle says:

I agree for them, they are real and have spend many times far from cameras. I have more doubts about new pair like Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk for instance who are constantly papped

    • NUTBALLS says:

I believe in Fassy/Alicia because they’ve been together a whole lot longer and made the effort to see one another despite working apart for months at a time. I think it’s real and I don’t believe any breakup rumors unless it’s confirmed on upcoming red carpets going solo.

    • ican'tsnap says:

Even if they don’t show up for one another’s premieres – there are so many reasons why a busy actor couldn’t make their partner’s premiere, or why they wouldn’t WANT to. Those red carpet appearances are work events, after all. It’s not just a fun night out. And if it is a real-deal relationship, and you want to keep it low-key and to not be asked about it, one of the best ways is to avoid red carpets and official appearances as a couple!

  17. Carol says:

I guess I am the only one who liked the Fassy/Vikander duo. I thought they were perfectly suited for each other.

    • Peach says:

Carol, you’re not the only one. I thought they were well-suited too since they seem to have the same approach to their work and life in general. Reading interviews, their philosophies sound very similar. Work hard. Enjoy life. Travel. They both love to cook too.

They were just seen together so the breakup rumor could be total bs. Fassy does seem to have a hard time making it past the one year mark though, which is almost here.

      • Kiki says:

I just don’t care about any of the two anymore. I still think Alicia is a desperate actress who just wants to have the same fame as JLaw, and I still think she is ungrateful of the things she has now. She is famous and yes she will be more famous but why not rub it in our faces why don’t you twinkle toes. I am not saying anything bad about her, except her attitude is just not to everyone’s liking. If she would just lower her self expectations she will be more likable. As for her dating Michael Fassbender, I and the rest of the people really don’t care about the. I agree with most people, they are a boring couple, but the whole Instagaming stuff need to stop.

      • petitehirondelle says:

I agree that they seem similar on some points and are maybe happy. The media are not realy interested in them and they don’t do anything for so for the moment it is low key

    • Skedaddle says:

I like them! They are both talented, ambitious, and seem like they would be fun to be around. I have no clue why people dislike her so much.

    • Isadora says:

I have no real opinion on Alicia because I hardly know anything about her, but I get SO TIRED of people trashtalking every single celeb pairing ever, especially for totally banal reasons like “she looks young” or “they met while working”. Duh. Most couples, even your boring neighbours and the boring teachers of your children meet while working. Because that’s where adults usually spend most of their time and you meet people with similar lifestyles/passions (if they like their job).

  18. Twobirds says:

I also saw on a Fassbender tumblr pics of them at a wedding very recently. Apparently a friend of his, but they are very much both there. I think they are a good looking couple although sometimes I do think she could do better. Can’t wait to see all these upcoming a movies, especially Macbeth.

  19. Andrea says:

Light Between Oceans not coming out anytime soon. 🙁 It was an amazing book!

  20. moon says:

If Blindgossip is to be believed, I guess the PR people realized this romance wasn’t working and called it off. Just pure speculation.

However, secretly rooting for Marion and Michael over here!

  21. Patty says:

It wouldn’t surprise if they were together or if they split. He does seem to split right after it appears that everything is okay. If I recall correctly, Fassy and Beharie split after they had spent time together in Thailand and in NM or something where he was filming Frank. Same with Kravitz, they were together and loved up one minute and not together the next.

That being said, I am excited for MacBeth but I have absolutely no excitement for Jobs. Zero. None. I did watch Slow West on Amazon Prime this weekend, really enjoyed it. 🙂

    • Kiki says:

That is what I said in earlier post. Michael seems to split up evertime I each country and then months later it was announced they broke up. I would be surprised if they did broke up. Do I think they are the perfect couple. No, but with most people fingers crossed they were hoping they are together, as I tell them, like most of his dating lifestyle, I give 2 years or less.

  22. Chaiselongue says:

If this is a ‘PR relationship’, no-one has told either of them the rules. They’ve posed for one photograph to date. Everything else is either paparazzi pics, fan snaps or photos on their friends’ social media.
From these it’s clear they regularly travel across the globe to be with each other. They discreetly support each other at premieres ( Cannes for him, New York for her). And they do normal couple things like attend music festivals, hang out with friends and vacation together. Within the last few weeks he has celebrated a festival in Sweden with her family and friends and she has attended his friend’s wedding.
If friends of mine were this involved with each other, i’d think they were pretty serious. So, i’m going to extend the same courtesy to this couple.

Macbeth looks great and has a European premiere in Edinburgh in September

    • Velvet, Crushed says:

I agree completely; they do not seem like a PR couple. Also, I like your name.

    • Isadora says:

      Everything you said. Thank you.

      • Chaiselongue says:

Thank you, Isadora. I agree with your comments too. Yes, there are fake celebrity relationships . Yes, there are ones where the relationship is genuine but there is over the top adoration and pda on red carpets to create a perfect image.
But overall ,celebrities are just people. Like everyone else they want someone to love and be with. We don’t need to dissect every single thing about them.

  23. Vesta says:

I like the two posters. Fassbender looks nothing like Jobs but he’s one of the best actors working right now so I’ll give it a chance. Vikander is my current girl crush, the book is meh but I will watch The Light Between Oceans just because they are the leads.

  24. Abigail says:

I like Michael and Alicia as a couple, and I hope they stay together. Both seem to share a strong work ethic and to enjoy each other’s company. The suspicion of this relationship as only PR comes from last year’s Cumberbatch craziness–but Cumberbatch is married with a child, they seem happy, and Weinstein as publicity genius would never have dreamed up the messiness of the Cumberbatch situation, or the way the two of them handled it. Michael and Alicia seem low-key, they are rarely photographed together, and tweets from those who have met them suggest they are indeed a real couple.

    • julie says:

Strong ethic? If they have strong ethic they wouldn’t start dating on set… Yeah, I can SEE how ethic both are.. lol

  25. ican'tsnap says:

Just based on Fassbender’s track record, I doubt it will last, but they do seem well-suited. They both take their work seriously, want big careers, both like to work a lot and take back-to-back projects*, both are based in London… They could become a power couple (at least, that’s probably what THEY’RE thinking).

*This will be either the reason they break up – because works keep them apart, or the reason it works – because they understand having to be away for work. Basically, I won’t be surprised if they break up in a month, and I won’t be surprised if in a few years they’re married with a baby.

  26. Chaiselongue says:

I agree it could go either way quickly but I’m veering towards them staying together. An engagement/marriage would not surprise me. Some relationships just give off that vibe; that there’s an inevitable trajectory to them. This strikes me as one.
When he was with the previous women he was still openly flirty with attractive female journalists who interviewed him, very publicly flirty with co-stars to the point that you could believe there were on set liaisons and from reports from private parties, happy to flirt with female guests. I didn’t get the impression those women were particularly important in his life as a whole.
It’s just a gut feeling, but I think this is a different, more involved, fuller relationship.
