Tom Hiddleston got pap’d in a suit in London: gorgeous or poorly-tailored?

wenn22829963

We’ve been in such a drought for photos of Tom Hiddleston this year. Yes, there were a handful of events (Comic-Con, BAFTAs) and yes, he got pap’d on a date with Elizabeth Olsen. But Tommy can and does go MONTHS without being photographed. But now that he’s got some films to promote this fall, look who’s getting pap’d on the streets of London? Tom wasn’t just slumming it in sweatpants either! Tommy wore a fancy, too-tight suit. I get that he’s a tall, lanky bro, but he needs to rethink his tailoring preferences. Also: look closely at his shirt. It’s DENIM. Seriously.

As for the dude with him in these photos… I’m getting a hipster-friend/younger cousin kind of vibe from the guy (update: the guy is his publicist Luke, apparently, according to commenters). I kind of wonder if the suit looks weird because the suit is borrowed and Tom was in the midst of some kind of photoshoot, hopefully for some upcoming magazine cover? I want to believe that we’ll be seeing even more of Tom in the coming weeks. I want to believe he’ll be in Toronto to promote High Rise and I Saw the Light. Fingers crossed. Autumn of Hiddles, here we come!

Meanwhile, I asked some of you Dragonflies on Twitter if this interview was new. I was told that it was done at Comic-Con, but I didn’t cover it then and several sites are running these quotes like they’re new. Behold, Tom discussing how he weeps when he gets scared. He’s like a frightened little bunny, you just want to squeeze him.

The 34-year-old actor is best known for playing Loki in Marvel films such as Thor and The Avengers. While his alter-ego can be pretty menacing, in real life, Tom is unlikely to be the one doing the scaring.

“Some people, the hair on the back of their neck stands out. If I’m frightened, I involuntarily weep,” he told British magazine Empire. “If we were sitting around a campfire telling ghost stories, I’d be like: ‘No, keep going,’ but there would be tears streaming down my face.”

Loki may be a mythical character, but Tom definitely believes there are spiritual beings around us every day. In fact, the Brit is adamant he saw two old women at the end of his hotel bed one time. “I felt I couldn’t move. I said: ‘What are you doing here?’ The smaller one leant forward and said: ‘No, what are you doing here?’” he recalled. “I swear on my life.”

His interest in the supernatural is what drew him to his latest role in Crimson Peak. The horror romance also stars Jessica Chastain and is directed by Guillermo del Toro. Despite bursting into tears when he first read the script, Guillermo felt that Tom was the perfect person to play the role of Sir Thomas.

“[He’s] literally the embodiment of the dark, brooding hero,” he said, before admitting the term is possibly not the most appropriate for his character. “The one thing I wanted to do was show what happens when you finally marry Mr. Darcy. You get Mr. Darcy, and one morning you open the door and he’s doing something unspeakable…”

[From Belfast Telegraph]

He’s saying his Crimson Peak character is like Mr. Darcy if Darcy was in a horror film? Hm. That’s interesting. As for Tommy seeing ghosts and Tommy weeping when he gets scared… bless him. I hope we keep hearing stories like this for months. And if the comments are about to devolve into people telling ghost stories, I have a few and they involve ghosts knocking on doors and playing with window blinds. Hand to God! I don’t know what I would do if two ghosts were at the foot of my bed.

The blue suit is from a photo shoot, done yesterday. There’s a gray pinstripe suit with a sweater vest – the pants of that suit are somehow even tighter but they have him running in them, putting himself in danger of going full Lenny Kravitz. There’s also a brown pinstripe suit and another dark pinstripe suit with a lavender shirt and a bicycle is in the mix too. No idea what the photoshoot was for but do hope we see the results soon.

The Empire interview was done at SDCC but it wasn’t released until about a week or so ago.

The veranda is open for the long Labor Day weekend. The meadow vending machines for the fray are fully stocked.

    • Catherine says:

The 1st pics I saw he was wearing a lovely pink shirt, think I saw 3 suits in all and he’s wearing trainers so the vibe is “running in a suit” pics. Looks like the stylist may have had his measurements before he started bulking up ( for Skull Island I assume).

    • Boston Green Eyes says:

Lilac, I do so admire your effortless ability to be the Grande Dame hostess around here.

      Truly amazing.

And I will help myself to a nice morning cup of tea and those delicious scones that your “chef” is known for!

      • Lilacflowers says:

What would you like in your tea? Colin will be right over.

      • scone says:

        It’s lunchtime here – a mere duck’s stroll from the Bard’s Avon.

As it is the last week of the holidays I am donating to the buffet some delicious Victoria Plums and some rather naughty Apple and Blackberry Liqueur.

        Bottoms Up!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Thank you, Scone. Colin is putting out luncheon selections as well. Duck might actually be on the menu but we can’t tell Tom. He thinks they are all his Shakespeare loving friends..

    • Lilacflowers says:

Colin has just asked me to remind everyone that there will be fireworks tomorrow evening. The veranda affords a most lovely view over the harbor and he does assure me that the meadow has good viewing spots as well. He will be directing the staff to provide picnic goodies for the firework display.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Who’s responsible for the fireworks, Colin, Mark or Tom??

You’ll find me where they’re being set off.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Uhm, the professionals hired by the City of Boston are responsible for the fireworks (which were scheduled before yesterday’s joyous court ruling). Tom is going to be watching them on the veranda glider with me. Mark will be patrolling the grounds.

      • Boston Green Eyes says:

        Which Tom? Oh do tell!

      • Lilacflowers says:

My husband Tom Hiddleston will be on the glider with me. The Bloke is free this weekend and I think I saw Tom Mison poking around the library

    • et alors says:

      Posted in wrong spot.

  2. Moxie Remon says:

I used to love him, but now i just think he’s so conceited. Everything seems so forced.

    • evermore says:

I never got the good looking hype with him , I don’t find him attractive at all, but he is a great actor.
He looks nerdy to me, like Chris Martin.

    • JWQ says:

I used to like him, too, but over the years he has shown to be a little too famewhorish for my tastes, and I have yet to see a movie in which he is really good: he is not bad, but usually he is just decent. That is the standard of the 90% of young actors nowadays, though.
Plus, I just don’ t like people who never voice a negative comment. He likes EVERYTHING. I’ m not saying that he has to bash other actors or movies, but I have never even heard him saying something like “I’ m sure it’ s great, but I don’ t like the genre.”. I tend to think that people, and actors in particular, who do that are either lying or don’ t have much personality.

As for the suit, the jacket is too big in the shoulder and it makes him look like he has foam rubber to look buff, and the trousers are too tight and too short. It would look good if it were the right size. Classical suits are the best for tall, skinny and high-class looking men.

      • p'enny says:

        @jwq

I think the ‘never saying a negative comment’ is a good thing, however, it can come across as too polished. He has said things a few political things now and again, he hates the class system, and he critisces london now and again, and he nearly put his foot in with his fans a couple of years ago But, he will never come out and say someone’s performance or play wasn’t good. He is very much on the diplomatic side.

But, at age 34, he’s to young to have negative opinions and is only worthy of being tied to my bedpost.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        Tom is the consummate politician.

p’enny, looks like you have a lovely assortment of ties to choose from… one for each limb.

      • Catherine says:

Jwq, check out the Time Out interview he did at the time of the Coriolanus run Dec ’13 I think. Hes more honest in that.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@catherine, more honest and lots is swearing in that one too. Quite entertaining

      • p'enny says:

@nutballs four limbs, one mouth and one whipping tie 😉 have i missed one out? i could decorate his fifth limb..

      • NUTBALLS says:

p’enny, you should have one of the dong sweaters that Miss Jane knits for the fellas at Thornfield. Preferably the edible kind.

Catherine, that Time Out interview is probably my favorite. It came off as an unusually open and *real* interview for Tom. Made him seem more human and less PRd-into-naff-nothingness, to borrow Sixer’s most excellent description.

      • Catherine says:

NB, Lilac, I wish he would do more interviews like that, bitchy Tom is much more interesting. I got the impression he was a bit stressed from the Coriolanus run at the time. Some quotes from that interview:
“I don’t want to sound like a twat, but sometimes you just don’t want to have to stop and take a selfie”
“Do the work, enjoy the work, take it seriously, don’t take yourself seriously and keep your head down! Nobody else needs to know anything more, and – in a way – they really don’t want to”

      • Lilacflowers says:

@catherine, he made some comments about being politically stereotyped too because of Eton and had some controversy because he doesn’t always want to stop for a selfie because sometimes he’s busy or simply having a bad day.

He was sick during Coriolanus too.

      • et alors says:

I think he said he hated Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and he still gets (light-hearted) grief for that.

      • icerose says:

and some people just have very caring friends and find the need for criticism etc tedious . He probably does do it in private and that is often a a very British trait..But each to his own -it just washes of my back.

      • icerose says:

Tom was voted head boy at Eton and part of his role to support the new students-so i imagine he was a naturally supportive/popular person with great people skills.Just looking at his family they seem to have kind caring faces.Nothing wrong with a kind heart who has the ability to remain inclusive with people even when he becomes famous-His charm has always it has always been part of his trade mark.I think there was a a period when he tried a bit two hard but i think the stint back in England with his past colleagus and Coriolanus etc seems to have sent him down the work road which suits me.

      • LadyLoo says:

TH wasn’t voted Head Boy at Eton, he was a House Captain – two very different beasts in the jungle that is a boys’ public school.

      • JWQ says:

For everyone who commented over the “never said anything” wrong: as I said, I’ m not talking about bashing or being rude. I am simply talking about opinions. I don’ t like actors who say out front that they despise someone in a nasty way unless that someone deserves it.
While I understand that for an actor, saying that he doesn’ t like a specific movie could be the end of his career, I also think that for someone who is trying to be considered real and brags about trying to not taking it too seriously, being this calculating is jarring. Which is why I automatically think he is lying when he says he likes everything, or that he is lying about trying to stay down-to-earth and sincere.

      • icerose says:

House captain is not dissimilar but his role
was still a supportive boy and involved supporting new students and was a post voted “There are a number of important senior boys with responsibilities in the house, the first of whom is the house captain. He will do his best to make sure a boy enjoys his time in the house and participates fully in the various activities on offer in the wider schoo

      • icerose says:

Penny people on here tore him to pieces when he mentioned his feelings about the class system so he could not win no matter what he says.My experience is that outwardly negative people are boring in the end but those who have positive approach are far more interesting and helpful in a crisis. And most intelligent people know that being openly critically about fellow co-stars and directors can come back to bite you.

      • LadyLoo says:

If you know anything about Eton and House Captains – my brother was one (and was in NO way in line to be a head boy!) – you’ll realise that the last activity on their To Do List is helping new boys or ‘being supportive’.

Sure, that’s a nice write up Eton has on what it means to be a House Captain, but it’s not exactly the whole truth.

If you think about TH’s cheeky smile in his House Captain pic – that will tell you more about what it means to be a House Captain than anything on Eton’s website.

      • icerose says:

if i use the wrong word/spelling the I get a pass as i am recovering from untargeted radiation therapy and my word finding ability took a bash.My brother has a beautifully cheeky smile it is not necessarily the sign of someone who has a hidden nasty streak. If you know any better let us know with evidence please. Not saying he was perfect who is no one is but my impression from his public role gives is a positive one and until i have actual evidence to the contrary i will stick with it

      • TotallyBiased says:

        What icerose said.

      • NUTBALLS says:

icerose, wishing you speedy recovery and good health. I hope you can make it to LFF this year and enjoy a bit of Red Carpet Tom.

      • LadyLoo says:

I don’t have insider information concerning TH’s time as HC, but from what my brother, cousin and two uncles (all of which were HCs) say, the HC is responsible for organising the house and the boys in them. My uncle says there are two types of HC. The first makes and joins in the mischief with the other boys. The other type is too soft to stop the mischief and turns a blind eye. I can’t say which one TH was – or if he was either of these at all. Eton has likely changed since my uncles were there – although with public schools, change is glacial in pace. Still, my brother is only seven years older than TH – and he was certainly one of the mischief making HCs!

      • LadyLoo says:

As an aside, icerose, speedy recovery and better health in the future. Some BFI-LFF showings (and a few TH sightings!!) would certainly be good medicine.

    • meme says:

he’s so meh to me. much too famewhorish and full of himself.

      • masy says:

How could he to be a famewhore if we couldn’t see him for months? He doesn’t go to twitter for months and there is no his interviews for years besides the obligated movie’s interviews. He doesn’t go to parties and awards for years. How he was a famewhore???????

      • p'enny says:

months, more like a year, the last black tie event was last years Evenign Standard Awards. But, apart from that this guy has not done one celeb party, well not been caught anyway.
The only bit of showbizzy stuff he’s done is the taxi fiasco of last month, but i am not going there. #jealous 🙂

      • NUTBALLS says:

It’s been nearly two years since he finished promoting TDW. Wolseley pap-walk aside, he hasn’t been famewhoring, he’s been working pretty much non-stop.

      • Smyling says:

I think people are confusing supply with demand. He supplies us with a small tidbit, and WE are the ones so thirsty that we tweet, post and reblog it ad nauseum. Therefore, it seems like he’s everywhere, when he’s really not.

      • Heather says:

There was the what’s on stage awards, Baftas dinner, Bafta awards (and after party they joked was a birthday party for Tom), Cumberbatch wedding… That was his February. Letters Live was end of March or early April. Wimbledon, Comic Con and disastrous date night was July. He’s been working the rest of the time, until now. Only needs to show up somewhere once and it can give us fantasy fodder for weeks.

      • Dara says:

@Smyling has a good point. If I wasn’t actively looking for all things Tom, he’d hardly make a blip in celebrity gossip land. That might change this fall when he has three movies that will generate a decent amount of buzz, but usually the smallest breadcrumb is enough to sustain a Hiddleston fan for months at a stretch.

      • P'enny says:

he accepted an award at the WhAts on Stage award with Josie. He presented at the BAFTA’s if I remember correctly, & he attend the charity dinner because he was host for the charity auction. The wedding, was not fame-whoring he took the bullet coming out of the front door, while the Bendy and Co went out the back. (Not saying he didn’t enjoy it) Comic con promoting Crimson Peak, which his job. Wimbledon & date night were the only 2 things that were $$$$$ Letters Live is for charity, and you can accused everyone else for fame whoring there too …

The jaguar adverts are pure ££££ but they really quality he’s not selling fairy liquid

However, saying all that I am not daft to year of 2013 where he was a loose end. But he is in an industry to survive you need to shout.

If he goes to the opening of a shoe shop for Weinstein, then I will call him a fame-whore

    • LadyLoo says:

Yeah, he has been around – just not promoting movies, so it’s seemed slow/a little PR-driven, when it’s really not, on either counts.

  3. Jamie says:

Yea. It was for a photoshoot. There were a bunch more really tight suits. I’m not even mad about it! The guy with him is his publicist, Luke Windsor. He is confirmed to be at the Toronto Film Festival for both of his movies, and he is confirmed for a few other festivals as well, including the London Film Festival.

  4. Astrid says:

For a second I thought Tom was walking next to Harry Potter.

  5. Div says:

His pants are too short. Supposedly I Saw the LIght is great according to buzz from a screening but I don’t think poor Tommy is going to have a chance at the Oscars with Leo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Johnny Depp, Idris Elba, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Fassbender, and Michael Keaton (apparently Michael Keaton is top notch in Spotlight) in the mix. Elizabeth Olsen probably will have a chance at BSA though.

    • icerose says:

all good actors but Tom can hold his own and his variety of characterisations are amazing.Redmayne and Fassbender are impressive.Tom Hardy can also shine given the right roleThe rest are good in but I have never found DiCaprio impressive but he has his moments in the right role so i wish him luck

      • icerose says:

Just read a very bad review of Redmayne’s Transgenderr film???

      • NUTBALLS says:

The reviews are mixed. Alicia V is being noted by some as having the better performance, much like Felicity Jones in TTOE last year.

  6. Hiddleswardrobepolice says:

Alas, those are his clothes, albeit probably made when he was much leaner, that denim shirt is his fave blue shirt doing formal duty. And I don’t know how Luke, the cute one next to him is his long time publicist, let him walk out in that.

  7. Catherine says:

Kaiser, the guy with Tom is Luke Windsor his publicist.

There are candid pics from girls who were going to the Legend premiere then a guy on instagram, that he was doing a photoshoot in Soho (the insta pic hes with a bike by the Pillar of Hercules a street in Soho). The pap pics appeared later yesterday.

    • lower-case deb says:

what i really love about Celebitchy, is that you learn something new and random and amazing and/or amusing from time to time.

such as learning that someone actually okayed Pillar of Hercules as a streetname… this is gonna be one of my secondary bucket list: take a picture on Pillar of Hercules Street.

and probably try to weave in that name into every conversation i’m in.

      i love it.

      • Catherine says:

Correction the Pillars of Hercules is the pub at the head of the passage, on Greek St. Very nice pub and 18th C. There’s a restaurant further up called The Gay Hussar (it’s Soho).

      • EscapedConvent says:

I’m awed that the name Pillars of Hercules is remarked upon on a gossip site! And last week, someone mentioned Emperor Nero’s mother, Agrippina. I know of no other site where one would see this. I like that.

  8. Sixer says:

Blimey. That is the first ever photo of the Tomelette I’ve seen in which his legs do not look good.

BRING BACK THE MARSHWIGGLE LEGS, PUDDLETOM!

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’m sure we’ll see them soon. But have a refreshing beverage in the meantime.

      • Sixer says:

I could do with a Fizzy Hiddles, actually. Exhausted from yesterday. The legs shown appropriately wouldn’t hurt either!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Colin is sending the Bloke and Cillian to administer to your needs. The Bloke was saying something about needing to give you a massage. And he’s bringing Woodstock.

      • Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

Yeah that helps, especially the first one… MEOWWWW….

        *drooling….*

      • Sixer says:

        Better legs, I thank you.

I think I am in a Cillian frame of mind today, so I’ll take him and leave the legs to you guys!

(Nutballs – a BBC doco series for you to look out for if it ever gets to streaming services: Ascent of Woman. The first episode was quite the most intelligent thing I’ve seen in ages. Fascinating, too).

      • NUTBALLS says:

Will keep an eye out for it, Sixer. Your recommendations have been spot on so far.

        I want more Sally Wainwright!

In the meantime, I look forward to seeing the Mark Strong this weekend in A View from a Bridge that finally made it here.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Please do probe Cillian for some Peaky Blinders news. Like WHEN do we get to see season 3 and when do they start filming season 4?

I suspect Thomas’s legs and the fit issues at the photo shoot will be addressed in Photoshop. I do need to see that aubergine suit in full glory without somebody’s JakeGyllenhaal watermark across his mid-section

      • Absolutely says:

You are the bees knees, nutballs. Thanks for that!

      • NUTBALLS says:

Nighty, it just makes you want to climb on top, doesn’t it? It should be illegal for the PuddleTom to lay on a couch like that… alone.

That last one gives me ideas. For obvious reasons.

      • Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

@Nutballs I’m definetely having some ideas, I mean the couch, him lying like that, me crawling all over him… Meoow… ron ron..

      • Sister Goldenhair says:

Greetings all! Finally posting to CB for the first time after lurking for the past two years, so please be gentle with me…

Anyway, @Nutballs, @Nighty – unfortunately that first “legs” photo Nutballs linked has been identified as a manip. You can find the original (along with other identified TWH manips) here:
        http://hiddlememes.tumblr.com/post/108447194151/know-your-tom-hiddleston-manips-collages1

      • icerose says:

Cillian has two great early films -one of whivh he did originally on stage I was watching with a friend l this week.He plays completely different charactors and as the transvestite is amazing and acting to transform which always far more interesting to watch

    • Catherine says:

Blame the stylist Sixer. One of the suits is obviously too short for him as well.

      • Velvet, Crushed says:

I think you’re right, Catherine. My guess is that his legs are even more beautiful — long but with a little more shape — but that the fit of the suit gives the illusion oddly proportioned muscles.

I am going to hope that this morphological change will herald a new era of suits for him, and that Tom Ford is waiting in the wings.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Let’s hope he branches out from the black, grey and blue that he’s gravitates towards. Auburgine is a good color on him and paired with a pink shirt and offsetting tie/pocketsquare, he looks DYN-O-MITE.

      • koko says:

Yes to some new color Nutballs. I would love to see him step out of his comfort zone for the upcoming PR blitz. Though the traditional Tom will always be H*O*T*.

      • Dara says:

If all the clothes are samples from the Spring/Summer 16 collections, they were probably tailored with your average male model in mind. Have you seen some of the boys that do the runway shows? Most of them are not exactly super-buff body-builder types. And most of them also aren’t much over 6 feet, with 6’2″ being the max I think.

There’s only so much you can do with samples from designers. Tom probably fits into a standard size much better when he’s carrying his usual weight, but I think he bulked up for the TNM and is trying to carry that into the Monkey Movie so those poor suits never stood a chance.

  9. Swofty says:

I miss THE Loki from THE first Thor movie that came out a few yrs ago

    • p'enny says:

      why?

Tom is growing into a rather handsome man, he’s so over the baby-hiddles and loki stuff now.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I never understood the appeal of Loki. He didn’t make an impression on me until I saw his Prince Hal.

And Coriolanus is about to start its encore run on NT Live… bring on Brick Shithouse Tom!!

      • Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

That’s two of us NutBalls… Loki is so… pale… Prince Hal is so charming…

      • p'enny says:

to be fair, Loki is pretty sexy and i will be fair to Swofty, he really caught my eye in Thor. However, Prince Hal is fecking gorgoeus and i can only watch the sauna scene and the pour beer over his head scene in small doses because i come over all funny and gooey and…
Coriolanus is the closest Tom will ever get to hard-man
        But, Adam is cute
Sir Sharpe looks down-right rip-my clothes off now.

My head-jury is out yet Dr Laing and Hank

      • NUTBALLS says:

p’enny, the jury is still out on Laing??? Seriously?? That’s my #2 Tom right there. His hair has never looked better than in those still photos, imo. It’s like a work of art — I don’t even want to muss anything up with my fingers, it’s so perfect.

      • Absolutely says:

I’m with you, nutty. I am jonesing for more high rise photos. Swoon.

      • Velvet, Crushed says:

Team Hollow Crown, closely followed by his Series II of Wallander look. Delicious. I may be allowing Dr. Laing into contention shortly.

      • Waitwhat says:

Laing is rapidly moving into my #1 spot. As Nutty said, the hair is perfect, and I think the character is going to be, ahem, *interesting* – especially if they keep the nudity.

Looks like the boy has kept his Jonathan Pine body for the monkey movie.

      • Dara says:

Hmmm, I had a nice daydream trying to rank my favorite Tom iterations, so thanks for that. In descending order – Caius Martius, Henry V, Adam, and then Prince Hal. Jonathan Pine and Laing might crack the top 5 but I they aren’t eligible for the list until they’ve officially made their debut onscreen. Hank will break my heart but I think it will be too painful to keep revisiting that particular version on a regular basis.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@p’enny, you left out the “jump on the table and pretend to be Jeremy Irons scene.” That jump is so dangerous to the viewer. Also, the hands when he wakes up Falstaff. The hands waking up Falstaff kill me every time.

And ahem, blue sweater, tongue-twister video and wet white t-shirt ice bucket challenge.

      • Velvet, Crushed says:

For me, @Lilacflowers, the most titillating element of the play within a play scene is the index finger roll. Yes, the waking of Falstaff is also oh so memorable.

      • icerose says:

Hal was the first time i noticed him and it was love for both his acting ,smile and looks which just knoced me out.

      • hermia says:

Cassio in McGregor’s Othello was my first sighting of Tom. My friend and I looked at each other and thought “Yes”. I feel a bit of a talent scout, lol. 🙂

      • icerose says:

Hermia you lucky girl I would love to have seen that. One of the great thing seeing him at the Donmar live was the proximity.Give me small intimate productions any day. When I saw Rory Kinnear from the balcony live at the National I was not impressed but in the satellite broad casts he came over with more energy and personality.

  10. bettyrose says:

Who is he walking with and how do I meet him? He’s rockin’ a tall hipster nerd boy (emphasis In tall) that’s totally distracting me from Tom’s ridiculous suit.

    • InvaderTak says:

Luke Windsor, publicist and Tom wrangler. I kinda wish we had disquis so i could post gifs, but if you search there are some hilarious ones of him behind Tom at events and such. He always looks so stressed.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Also has a steady boyfriend, so not available–though that could change, I suppose.

      • Chicky says:

Why is his publicist always with him? I don’t seem to notice other publicists being ever present.

      • Lucrezia says:

Cumberbatch’s publicist Karon stands out too. It might be an English thing? Perhaps US publicists concentrate on staying out of the shot, while the English ones don’t worry about that so much? Or perhaps it’s just coincidence. Karen stands out because of bad dress sense, while Luke is eye-catching because he’s a cutie.

      • icerose says:

not so much in the UK either-it seems to be something about the younger more aggressive actors who are marketing them selves and chasing a film career or it maybe something to how their agents/ work.

  11. Lk says:

I love how he seems to be bouncing joyfully down the road. Got some last night eh?

  12. AG-UK says:

Short trousers seem to be in now especially among hipster trader types. Looks silly to me and double breasted suits are tricky to pull off for many. He does have a nice smile but I kind have lost that loving feeling.

  13. Kate says:

Want want want want want want want

    • p'enny says:

add a few more and i shall grant your wish..

      • NUTBALLS says:

p’enny, no! We have too many ladies in the rotation as it is!! That’s less for you, me and icerose, girl!

      • Absolutely says:

Hey now. Don’t even tell me you’ve left me out. And Lilac. She will not be happy. Although he is her husband, so I guess he’s hers to lend out to start with.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Icerose is still banned at Tom’s request. He is still scared

      • Kate says:

        …want want want want want

      • P'enny says:

        @nutballs he has the stamina – he’s a fit boy 😻

      • icerose says:

Tom may well be in London at he London Film festival and we have already arranged our regular quickie as soon as I found out. What Tom says and what he does is always open to discussion,The man makes his own decisions.
And he does look absolutely gorgeous despite the suit which I am not crazy over,i will have to get it off him as soon possible

  14. GiGi says:

Omg. That looks like it’s from the Prince Charles junior’s section.

  15. NUTBALLS says:

The plum pinstriped suit fit him, and he had a sweet looking checkered(?) tie and pocket square. Too bad the best ones were watermarked.

Not a fan of the knitted tie, however I would simply take it off him (along with everything else) and re-purpose it for my salacious entertainment.

And why am I noticing LUKE WINDSOR in these photos?? He was looking particularly adorkable yesterday.

  16. p'enny says:

I am sure you guys have heard that the Loki cut-scene from AoU is not the Blu-Ray, reviewed by Empire magazine. IT was on twitter this week, that it was missing.

    #notamused.

    • Lilacflowers says:

      #equallyunamused

    • InvaderTak says:

I’m outright miffed, I tell you

    • TotallyBiased says:

Not buyin’ it. No, really–I’ve no reason to buy the AoU blu-ray now. And if they’re saving it for the phase 2 boxed set? I’m not spending several hundred dollars for something that will be all over the net. I used to be more supportive, but after this, just no.
Poor Joss–he promised the scene would be there, but one presumes it was a later decision made above his head.

  17. Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

Is he taking advices from Kim Kardashian in terms of size of clothes? Don’t like the suit, well, the suit per se is nice but it’s too small for him.

  18. et alors says:

I think (but I could be wrong) that suit is also part of the photoshoot because it’s along the same lines as the other three suits from the shoot (pinstripe, snug fit, mixed patterns/fabrics, too-short pants, all on trend). Tom tends to go for the classic rather than trendy when it comes to suits. I think the Wimbledon RL suit is more his personal style.

Anyway, there were more pap pics. I don’t like the color of this brown suit, but his smile is nice.

    https://twitter.com/Loki_Page/status/639678445887229952

Also, someone came across what is supposedly a picture of Jett Williams watching ISTL filming. You can see Tom in the background.

    https://twitter.com/AceMandrel/status/639771944095776768

    • NUTBALLS says:

tomismonochromaticallyfabulous had hilarious commentary on that icky brown suit this morning…

    • et alors says:

Ah, thanks, @NUTBALLS, I was waiting for them to post something about the new outfits. So funny how they go from the extreme of loving the purple suit to loathing the brown one. I actually think those two suits were the most well-fitted of the four we saw, but I agree about the colors clashing and the pattern mixing not working for the brown outfit. I love a good mix of patterns, but that black-and-white checked shirt was too much.

    • Absolutely says:

Wow. Those are some tight pants.

  19. M.A.F. says:

He was doing a photoshoot. There are other photos.

  20. pretty says:

hahahah i JUST watched Kingsman : secret service and Colin Firth just KILLLLS it with suits and i see this guy, and it makes me sad. ahah the fit is terrible!

    • EN says:

I loved Colin in Kingsman, even though it was a very very silly movie.
Now that I think of it, the pants ( or should I say trousers?) in those Kingsman suits were also rather tight.

    • jammypants says:

Colin brought my dead crush back to life in that film.

  21. Crocuta says:

    Luke’s tall!

I hate Tom’s haircut. Too short. Like his pants. And jacket.

  22. NUTBALLS says:

T-5 until the publicity onslaught… How much will THEO overshadow ISTL and HR??

    • Dara says:

I thought I was ready, but I’m not. I don’t expect THEO for HR at all – unless they show up together at the premiere…now there’s a thought. That would be a surprise.

It will interesting to see how they play it at all the ISTL events.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Dara, I like predictions — even if I’m gloriously and ridiculously wrong — so I’m putting my money on them holding hands on the red carpet when they make their grand entrance. Then when asked about their relationship, they’ll play it cool — “we’re seeing each other when we can, having fun, enjoying our time together, blah blah” enough to give them an easy out when promotion (and the easy hookups) are over.

      • Catherine says:

Dara, I agree I anticipate them together on the RC at the ISTL premiere and at any related events but it will be interesting to see if shes at the HR screening (personally I think it would detract from the film but who knows), of course there will be the inevitable fan backlash.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Catherine, I bet she’ll be at the HR premier… and yes, there will be an backlash and epic meltdown if THEO confirms a relationship next week.

My uninformed opinion is that the purpose of July’s sneaky pic and Wolseley pap walk was to give weight to the earlier rumors and to lay the groundwork for their coming out as a couple at TIFF.

We’ll see if I’m blowing smoke out of my ass next week…

      • Absolutely says:

You know, I’m going to go the opposite. I think they’ll go with a “just good friends” approach. Kind of an, are they or aren’t they thing. I think he’s seen what can go wrong with pushing that too hard. I don’t even believe they’re in a relationship right now.

      • Dara says:

I’ve given up trying to decide to if TH and EO are 1) just friends 2) casual but no commitment 3) ready to make beautiful babies together or – and it’s a longshot in my book – 4) planting stories about a fake relationship for PR.

If I had to pick, I’d go with 1) or 2) – but what the hell do I know. That’s why TIFF will be so interesting. It’s probably unfair, but we’ll all be playing photo assumption, reading body language and parsing interviews for any clues about what is really going on. Adds another dimension to the normally tame spectator sport that is Hiddles-watching, that’s for sure.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Absolutely, the only other option I see as viable is similar to what you described… giving just reason to think they might be a couple — enough to keep the chatter going about their status. Either option keeps people talking (PUBLICITY!) which is needed with the competition at TIFF. What I don’t see in my crystal ball is a straight up denial if asked about it.

Dara, you know THEO’s words and body language will be analyzed to DEATH on the interwebs… just like OtterComet 2014. I’m stocking up on copious amounts of gin required for the Pervy Tombangers I’ll be imbibing.

      • jammypants says:

In the words of Tom mimicking everything under the sun: “There will be blood.”

      • koko says:

Well it’s sure to be a whole lot of something no matter what happens in the next few months. I’m honestly surprised that we haven’t had any recent couple pap shots. I know the last one was a mini disaster in some ways but if your establishing a relationship, pr or not wouldn’t you be out there “establishing”.

Koko waving to all on the veranda.

  23. seesittellsit says:

Luke looks about 14, and as for Hiddles’ ensemble – I dunno. You wouldn’t expect him NOT to be beautifully tailored if he puts on a bona fide suit rather than a leather jacket and jeans – he is after all a rich boy out of Eton by Cambridge – but it makes him look sooooo . . . overbred.

    • icerose says:

Tom sits on the British board of fashion or use to so another reason for him to know how to dress when required.

  24. natty says:

Luke is hotter than Hiddles 😀

  25. Phoebe says:

Lately I’ve been drinking gallons of the Hiddles kool-aid, so I think he looks beyond gorgeous in every single photo. And these are just paps and random girls on cell phones pictures- when the professional ones are released- batten down the hatches!!
Looked like there was a video camera at this shoot too- I’m hoping it’s for Flaunt- they do such beautiful pictorials and videos. The one he did a few years ago and the one Benedict did last year are basically lady porn.

    • TotallyBiased says:

The 1883 photoshoot video to Blue Jean is my kryptonite. The dancing–sigh.

      • Phoebe says:

OH YES. Boots in the bathtub! So good.

But Flaunt- the shadows, the perfect hair, the touching of his mouth, the camera-eye-f*^king, Shakespeare quoting, guitar playing, and whatever he is doing with that scarf that makes me wish he was wrapping it around my wrists… it’s all just so.flippin.good. I’ll be in my bunk.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi0bRKWdgh0

      • TotallyBiased says:

Well, yes. There was that scarf. And the heavy signet ring. And the Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock. Yes, that flaunt video was definitely something as well!

      • Lilacflowers says:

I wrapped that scarf around his hands like that.

  26. EN says:

I saw I think about 3 different suits on him lately , the suits are OK. I especially loved the one in combination with the pink shirt. But the pants seem to tight.
Since I have no idea what is on in the male fashion right now I assumed that the tight pants are the thing?

I also noticed he was wearing the same grey shoes Cumberbatch wore recently on one of the rare occasions when he was decently dressed (this is why I remember it ) and thought they probably bought these together or something.

  27. Dara says:

    I counted four looks total:
    1. Blue double-breasted pictured here
    2. Green stripe with gray suede (?) trainers
    3. Gray striped suit with sweater underneath jacket
    4. Pink/purple combo – was it pinstriped too?

Maybe stripes are the fashion story for the spread? As in how to wear a pinstriped suit without looking like an old-man banker. If so, mission accomplished. I’m also getting a spring/summer vibe from all these ensembles, do you suppose it will be featured in a spring issue – and for which magazine?

Oh, and they were also filming video at the photoshoot too, so there should be at least one hi-def action shot of the Tom-ster running in all of those too-tight trousers.

    • Lilacflowers says:

The purple was pin-striped too. There was also a brown suit with a checked shirt. I wish we knew what this was for. I suspect it probably isn’t the only one of these he has done recently. If spring stuff, maybe to run around the release of TNM in March?

      • Dara says:

That brown suit looks olive green to me, but then again I saw a white/gold dress when that whole kerfuffle was making the rounds so maybe my eyes are just wonky.

edit – looking at it on a different computer it does look more brown.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Maybe the color depends on the lighting and it is a brownish olive? Except for the blue and gray, he’s sporting colors he doesn’t choose for his personal wardrobe

  28. SugarMalone says:

Tom has been confirmed as a guest at TIFF.
I got my tickets for I SAW THE LIGHT and HIGH-RISE. There’s an “extended” Q&A after HIGH-RISE – I’m hoping the loonies keep their hormones in check and we don’t have a repeat of last year’s Cumberbatch “you’re so yummy” incident.

    • Lilacflowers says:

      Do have fun!

    • p'enny says:

      you lucky wench! #bestoffun

    • NUTBALLS says:

      Enjoy and report back, SugarMalone!!

I’m bummed that Telluride is only a few hours away from me and I’m not there to see all the movies premiering there.

That in addition to the glorious San Juan mountains:
      https://twitter.com/search?f=images&vertical=default&q=%23TFF42&src=tyah

    • Catherine says:

Ooh lucky you, please report back.

    • Dara says:

I got tickets to High-Rise at the Vancouver Film Festival! Early October. With no US distributor yet, I couldn’t pass up the chance to see it in a theater – even though it’s practically guaranteed to give me a case of the icks just based on the plot. I’ll probably know the movie inside and out before I even get to Vancouver from reading the press after TIFF, San Sebastian, and Zurich but I don’t care.

I Saw the LIght is showing there too on Oct 9th but I couldn’t make that date, and the odds that film will be come to a cinema near me is greater than that of High Rise so I went with HR.

    • icerose says:

i think there is a couple of others that I have seen him mentioned in as well-and i have seen him in the some top 10 oscar lists

    • lunchcoma says:

Ooh. I’m not entirely surprised since he’s been there before, but I’ll look forward to the pictues and wish I lived a bit closer.

    • icerose says:

lucky for you =I am hoping for High Rise at the BFI

      • Waitwhat says:

@icerose High-Rise is confirmed for BFI-LFF – it’s the Empire gala on October 9th. Tom will be there rather than Vancouver.

      • icerose says:

yes my daughter is already on it and so keeping my fingers crossed.I am hoping for Crimson Peak and ISTL if I am lucky

      • icerose says:

so is Benny’s gangster film but it looks like it may being clashing with High Rise film on the day

  29. KyleRandall says:

A man in a peplum suit jacket. That is a sure-fire lady boner killer.

  30. Jenna says:

That suit is TOO TIGHT. My brother is also a tall, lanky dude, with a penchant for Italian cut suits…and even he can afford to go to a f***ing tailor to make sure they actually fit and flatter his tall, lanky frame. Seriously, this tightness almost makes Tom look short!!

    • jammypants says:

I think perhaps they had the suits tailored but by the time they did the shoot, Tom bulked up for his next role.

      • Lilacflowers says:

And much can be fixed in Photoshop. Although I can’t imagine his Skull Island character would be bulkier than TNM’s Jonathan Pine

  31. Ginger says:

I was a paranormal investigator for some time. I’ve been dealing with spirits my entire life. I do have some stories. At times I have also involuntarily cried from being scared. It doesn’t happen often however. Looking forward to Crimson Peak!

  32. Reece says:

May I request more info about Publicist Luke!? Stats?
Will it matter if I move to London? 😉

    • Absolutely says:

I believe someone up thread says he has a boyfriend? Not sure….

      • TotallyBiased says:

Yup, ‘fraid so. Long-term, though I don’t stalk Luke quite enough to know if they live together. Also (oddly) they are never photographed together, at least not in such away that boyfriend is visually identified.

    • icerose says:

He is gay but so are Tom’ agents firm who manage a a lot of UK talent -and are just older and richer

  33. Miss M says:

Look our Hiddles, blond in such tight pants… It makes me wish he would do a squat like Lenny K. did, if it would rip… I am thinking now… is he or is he not on commando?!

    *Shout-out to Nutballs*

    • NUTBALLS says:

Miss M, I see that p’enny and I aren’t the only deviant ones around here, you naughty girl.

*mixes up a Pervy Tombanger and hands to Miss M*

      • Miss M says:

Thank you Nutballs, but I cannot drink. No, I am not pregnant, lol

I just wanted say Hi because EsCon said you asked about the Thornfield gang the other day. I was on vacation.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Miss M you holding down the fort this time. Sixer came and left in a huff when she saw the marshwiggle legs weren’t shown in their full glory.

I know which Bendy thread EsCon was talking about. It was a reunion of nearly all the Thornfield ladies, even Eve!

    • Lilacflowers says:

If you look up to the very first post of mine on this thread, I did mention that the running pictures in the way, way too tight gray pinstripe suit put my dear husband at risk of going full Lenny Kravitz

  34. Heather says:

He’s gorgeous. Perfect hair (reminds me of Coriolanus. Yum yum), bursting out of his suit – and I believe this suit to be a Hiddles original, not part of the photo shoot he was doing. He’s wearing his own ridiculous crotchet tie and the denim-look blue shirt. Those boots look familiar too, tbh.

I love him in blue. *happy sigh*

  35. Bea says:

Somebody got some work done.. Good job, it looks very natural.

    • koko says:

      Curious, Bea, where?

    • Heather says:

I echo koko, what is this ‘work’ that you speak of? Unless by ‘work’ and ‘natural’ you mean his casual PR stroll with Luke. It is very effective, I agree.

      • Bea says:

I’m assuming he got a facial peel and some botox around his eyes and forehead. Looks very tasteful, his face still moves and it still looks like his face.

      • TotallyBiased says:

I think we don’t often get to see him with a well-done makeup job. Presumably he was made up for this photoshoot, and not by poor orange-biased Amanda G!

      • Lilacflowers says:

He still has the same lines around his eyes

      • Bint says:

I see what you mean…his face is much smoother than it’s been before. It has a bit too much shine to be makeup. I’m going with peel and some forehead botox. Not enough movement there to be botox-free.

        Overall, he looks fab-u-lishious.

      • P'enny says:

he’s just put some weight back on, it s not rocket science when he drops loads i.e Hank Williams and Henry V he becomes gaunt. Carries weight, aka Coriolanus, Night Manager, Prince Hal etc his skin looks good.

      • Mary-Alice says:

This is not Botox, this is deep hydration series of procedures without anything more invasive, yet. BTW, the wrinkles around tne eyes can also be erased by Thermage laser but I can’t tolerate this level of pain for now. He doesn’t have Botox. Yet.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Thanks, Mary Alice–what you say makes so much more sense.
British actor at this point in his career is NOT doing botox!
And it’s not like he’s afraid of what shows–or he would neverhave done that Andy Gotts shoot.

    • WaffleHour says:

I can’t quite see the evidence of “work” being done – but I don’t have the keenest eye for that. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least, though. He probably knows how beautiful he is and would likely want to discretely maintain that.

What I desperately want to know is what was he doing cosmetically during the WAR HORSE promotional tour? His skin was GLOWING!
      [References:

And whatever he was doing to look like that, why on earth would he stop?

      • DahliaDee says:

Having lots of sex, I presume. He had a steady girlfriend back then, Susannah Fielding. She accompanied him to one or two premieres.

      • NUTBALLS says:

He hadn’t yet started a 16-month string of work in which he had to bulk up, lose a lot of weight and bulk up again. The stress on the body will show up in the face as you can see from anyone who’s had a similar schedule to dropped a lot of weight for a role.

    • masy says:

He sleeps well now. That’s all.

  36. moon says:

Random, but he was AMAZING in Only Lovers Left Alive with Tilda. That’s when I realised what an amazing actor he was (past the whole Loki bs).

    • jammypants says:

Me too. I wasn’t too sure about him until I saw OLLA. Unlike many, I wasn’t too impressed with THC. But, with OLLA, he made a completely new character, so different from Loki and other angsty characters we’re familiar with.

  37. Beach girl says:

He has such flawless skin in these pics I’m assuming a photo facial? his hands are also perfect (as always) so I imagine he keeps them up too. I imagine most actors do this before they are to appear at awards, promo appearances. He looks good.

    • et alors says:

I think it’s because these are pap pics, which tend to be more flattering. I remember the difference between how his skin looked in the pap pics from when he was filming CP versus the candids taken with fans during the same time frame. He’s a handsome man, but he has so much sun damage.

    • Mary-Alice says:

Eh, not even only the actors. But yes, they do. Hydration is big, procedures not daily creams. Naturally , a laser doesn’t hurt either. I do it after each summer, my PR colleagues who attend the red carpets at all times do it for sure, and actors definitely. A deep hydration procedure leaves a baby like skin for at least two weeks even without anything more serious done.

  38. Dara says:

I have a dreadful feeling that all sort of interesting things will pop up this weekend – more High-Rise stuff, the rumored ISTL trailer, etc. etc.

The awful thing is I will be somewhere without computer or internet access for most of the long weekend. Someone keep a list of the things I need to see or know about, ok?

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’ll list what I see here for you but I don’t go deep into Twitter and I avoid Tumblr

    • NUTBALLS says:

Right now, all the news is coming out of Telluride. I wish I had been there to see the premier of ROOM. Tom’s next leading lady may have a busy awards season on her hands if the reviews at TIFF and LFF are as impressive as what I’m seeing after yesterdays premier at TFF:

      http://deadline.com/2015/09/a24s-emotional-knockout-room-draws-multiple-standing-ovations-in-world-premiere-screening-telluride-film-festival-1201516313/

Now, I’ve got to watch Short Term 12…

Don’t worry Dara, I’m sure I’m not the only one with twitter notifications set for the ISTL trailer we’re hoping to see this weekend.

      • DahliaDee says:

Oh, Brie Larson is spectacular in “Short Term 12”. I can’t wait for “Room”. She’s so, so good. If “Skull Island” puts anyone on the map, as it were, let it be her. Hiddles is a big boy, I’m sure he can take it graciously.

      • NUTBALLS says:

DahliaDee, all the reviews referenced her excellent work in the underrated Short Term 12 and I have it on my Netflix queue to watch this week.

All the critics reviews I’ve seen for Room have been excellent… and looks like it will be emotionally intense and nuanced. Can’t wait to feast on it myself. Will bring tissues. Spotlight is getting great reviews too especially Keaton and Ruffalo’s performances. These two movies have moved into my top 3 most anticipated along with ISTL…

And, seeing that Brie signed on the Skull Island makes me feel better about the loss of Keaton and Simmons…

  42. TotallyBiased says:

Evidently some of those High Rise pics floating around are actually bootlegs.
“We are the producers of High-Rise. We are anxious to show the fans the film, but in the right way, not as poor quality screen grabs and a pirated link. We request that you remove these protected images.”

    • Heather says:

Ooops. The person who posted the pics on Tumblr in the first place seems to have an aversion to sourcing things she finds. Its always “i cant link right now” but she has time to drop pics and run. Serves her right if she gets a slap on the wrist for posting what she shouldn’t this time.

But nevermind that, when will HighRise decide to give us the trailer legitimately??

      • Dara says:

Heather, it drives me crazy when people don’t link or source their material, but I’ve always found that particular blog to be very good about sourcing, especially the photos that could be considered sensitive.

    • Dara says:

That language and their follow-up message about thanking the “true fans” for not posting was a little over the top imo. Far as I can tell, the offending post was promptly removed as requested but they couldn’t resist doing a little passive-aggressive chiding after the fact. God forbid an excited fan should do something they don’t approve of. Phooey.

p.s. I thought the screen grabs were pretty good all things considered. 😜

OK, now I really am out for the weekend. Have fun in my absence.

    • jammypants says:

wow bootlegs already? I hope that bootleg never makes it far. It must be disheartening to see your hard work get passed around like that.

  43. hermia says:

Every time I see Tom live (being in London one sometimes sees him in a theatre – as a punter I mean), I’m surprised of how much better he looks compared to the photos. His fine features don’t always translate well in pictures.

  44. MBP says:

All double breasted clothing should be gathered and burned immediately.

  45. Bobafelty says:

Skinny jeans equivalent of a suit. Vaguely feminine and waaaay too tight.

  46. Chef Grace says:

OK, does he choose from his wardrobe? If so, please tell him no brown shoes with blue suit. I also cringed at the brown suit. other than that he looks great!
Loved that pink shirt. Still, he looks hottest in those muscle hugging white tees.

  47. LAK says:

That is very poor tailoring indeed.

  48. Beach girl says:

Off topic a bit, but does anyone when Emma H got married? Wasn’t it supposed to be sometime this spring/summer? If so they really kept it quiet. Good for them.

    http://blogs.indiewire.com/sydneylevine/gala-and-special-presentation-programs-at-viff-2015-announced-20150905

    An excerpt about High-Rise:

Throw in exquisitely unsettling turns from Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Irons, a string quartet cover of ABBA’s 1975 hit “SOS,” an orgy or two and spice with cannibalism, and you have a tour de force of astonishing architectural ambition.

    • Heather says:

      Is it a paint-splattered orgy? Oh boy…

    • Lilacflowers says:

The next three weeks are going to be crazy with festival news and reviews.

      • p'enny says:

        @lilacflowers

better get your bar over stocked… we are going need a lot of drinks.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Colin and Mark spent the weekend strategizing. Everything is fully stocked with scheduled daily deliveries. Mark has strengthened the security measures to ensure that the fray in the meadow stays clear of the veranda. My stylist has been working overtime to get my ensembles ready. We’ve had to ask the Alexander McQueen people to take the sharp points off the antler headress I’m wearing to the High-Rise premier as I was in danger of poking Tom in the eye

  50. Beach girl says:

There is not going to be a trailer for High-Rise until they get a distributor for US and/or firm release plan for UK.

I really want to see High Rise. I will probably have to be either tipsy or drunk to get through it but get through it I will!

  51. Karen says:

Is he less famous or popular than Cumberbatch now? There are more buzz about Cumberbatch lately.

    • TotallyBiased says:

      Whaaaat?
Is Mars more or less famous than Jupiter?
Is ice cream more or less famous than hot dogs?
      What a pointless question.

    • NUTBALLS says:

It’s hard to gauge their comparative popularity since they’re mainly “internet famous” due to Sherlock and Loki. Neither of them are regularly featured in US supermarket mags or magazine covers, which is a sign of true popularity here. Also, neither are Hollywood A-listers yet — as in “can command 10+ mill a picture” — but they’re working steadily and mixing things up between theatre, TV and film, so my perception is that they both seem to be doing quite well in comparison to their British peers.

Ben’s had a lot more promoting to do the past year and Tom’s been working like a dog. Now it’s Tom’s turn to start a media blitz and will certainly overshadow Ben’s Hamlet when it kicks off later this week. It all depends on frequency and timing of promotional work they’re doing.

    • Lilacflowers says:

What difference does it make? And why bring that up here? There are other actors and these two are NOT interchangeable. I assure you that the absolutely last thing I would ever think of while looking at Tom Hiddleston would be that other one.

    • jammypants says:

haha! are you BennyBatches PR lady, Karen? 😉 😛

  52. Beach girl says:

According to TIFF website the HR screening on the 18th had been cancelled. I believe the other two earlier screenings are sold out. Also since it’s not a premium event there will be no red carpet. Shucks.

    • et alors says:

There are Q&A’s after both High-Rise screenings, though, with Tom, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, and Ben Wheatley at both. I think Jeremy Irons will be at the first Q&A, too, IIRC.

  53. NUTBALLS says:

I’m wondering why SPC is waiting so long to release a trailer for ISTL. With a festival premier within days, why would they not want to create buzz and excitement for the premier?? SPCs Diary of a Teenage Girl and Grandma had trailers out at least 3 months in advance of the release — why not ISTL, when every other Oscar-buzzed film has one out by now? It seems like they’re shooting themselves in the foot now that Spotlight, Black Mass, Room, Jobs, Danish Girl, Beasts of No Nation have all had premiers and people are talking about them on social media and generating more excitement for their release.

  54. Beach girl says:

One theory I read is they may be waiting for HW birthday on the 17th. Makes no sense to me. The little ray of sunshine coming for TH I think will be Sir Thomas Sharpe. He will get massive exposure highlighting his versatility as an actor.

  57. Lilacflowers says:

He’s tweeting about Crimson Peak today because we might forget or something.

  58. Beach girl says:

TIFF website said no red carpet for HR. Now HR movie Twitter says RC on the 13th. I’m sticking with TIFF comments as final word and moving on. I just want a trailer from one of his movies!!

    • P'enny says:

I think they may changed their mind about red carpet, because quite a few of cast are turning up and they maybe thinking it’s worth the effort now. Moss, Evans and Tom, who knows Jeremy irons is hinted.

      • Lilacflowers says:

If they’re doing a Q&A afterwards, it makes sense to have no red carpet. They’re going to want to be a little more comfortable when sitting on a panel answering questions, which isn’t easy in a long dress and heels

      • Heather says:

Didn’t OLLA have a red carpet along with a Q&A at TIFF in 2013? It’s possible they could have both.

On a note for the fray down in the meadow, he spent the day working at NTLive instead of serving as arm candy at the tribute events in Deauville. Discuss. Colin has restocked the vending machines for you. Tea is served on the veranda.

      • NUTBALLS says:

What’s three hours when you get brick shithouse Tom as a reward??? We have to wait until January before it comes to the mountain West. Good thing I’ll have plenty to watch between now and then.

Were fans expecting him to be in France?? Hahahahahahahahahah… yeah, whatever.

      • Beach girl says:

I’m not touching that even with a 10 ft pole. That way madness lies……..

      • et alors says:

@Lilacflowers, when was the last time you checked for showings in your area? The NT Live website didn’t have anything listed in my general vicinity for a couple weeks, even though one of the local theaters already had showtimes listed on their website, but now, the NT Live website is updated to show that theater plus two more within 20 miles of me.

      • Lilacflowers says:

The THEO crowd in the meadow weren’t expecting him to support her when she’s being honored?

      • Lilacflowers says:

@et alors, I checked this weekend and not only was it hours away, it is in February and it’s showing near Mt. Monadnock. I guess they have deemed the 4 showings we got last year as sufficient. I disagree

      • NUTBALLS says:

“The THEO crowd in the meadow weren’t expecting him to support her when she’s being honored?”

Not if they think THEO is nothing more than a convenient hookup with marketing benefits.

      • NUTBALLS says:

The meadow dwellers may be given fodder for their discussions if Lizzy takes a detour through London on her way to Toronto, though.

      • Lilacflowers says:

“Not if they think THEO is nothing more than a convenient hookup with marketing benefits.”

Which would be all the more reason to be seen together at a film festival where she is being honored on a day when nobody else is getting attention. Not being there for the photo ops, where they don’t have to compete with others for camera time, would be a missed opportunity to draw attention to themselves. For marketing and all that.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I wonder if they gave new interviews and perhaps added some Evening Standard Award footage?

      • NUTBALLS says:

Lilac, I look at it differently. I would not have expected him to be there unless they were a real, bona fide couple, which I’m not convinced they are. If they’re casual fuck-buddies or FWBs, I doubt he would hop on a plane and be her arm candy, even for that extra bit of attention.

But, if they are casual, then I would expect them to take advantage of the studio-paid trips to TIFF & LFF, especially after they did the pap walk(s) in July. It’s convenient and serves a dual purpose of enjoying some sexy fun with a costar and bringing more attention to them and their movie.

      • Lilacflowers says:

They don’t have much of a choice with the festivals, unless they have a legitimate work scheduling conflict, because the festival appearances are usually written into their contracts. TIFF, even though it is a big party, is work.

      • Heather says:

and someone on twitter just said they saw Tom in Toronto today but they were too shy to say hi.

        https://twitter.com/SincerelySanaa/status/641807404368306176

Mistaken identity? Time Travelling Tom? It’s a 7 and a half hour flight from Heathrow… *tries to do the maths*

      • NUTBALLS says:

I’m not arguing against their obligation to promote at festivals, so I’m not sure why you brought that up. What I’m saying is I don’t expect them to spend their own moulah flying across the Atlantic for what may be — at best — a casual dating relationship. When they’re brought together by the studio to promote ISTL, it makes for a very convenient hookup throughout awards season, at a time when they need to garner as much attention for their film/performance as possible.

I would also argue that she needs the attention more than Tom does. Unless every one of his films is a critical & commercial flop, he should be in a good position career-wise. She, on the other hand, hasn’t signed on to anything in a year… that would scare the bejesus out of any actor.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Et alors, Josie is tweeting about it now too. Guess they had a fun day reminiscing and doing whatever it was they were doing.

      • et alors says:

Yes, I saw that. Not to rub it in, but the six rebroadcasts in my area start in November. Looking forward to seeing any new footage. I think the people who are hoping for a DVD release are going to be disappointed, though.

      • Lilacflowers says:

And they did just recently add one in Providence! A friend actually called me an hour ago and asked if I would go with her. So, I now have nice little journey down to Rhode Island to see a friend I rarely see any more and an afternoon of watching Tom, just days before ISTL opens.

      • waitwhat says:

Can’t wait to see it this time around – unfortunately had to miss both local showings last year.

      • et alors says:

Glad everything worked out for you, Lilacflowers!

      • Lilacflowers says:

@etalors, and now I have to book a one-way Amtrak ticket down there immediately because I hate the drive (especially if rain/snow), the local commuter rail won’t get me there in time for the showing, it’s Thanksgiving week, and some of the Amtrak trips that day are already booked solid. I can take the commuter home.

  62. NUTBALLS says:

Did you see that Anne Thompson is reporting that Miles Ahead’s release it getting pushed back to next Spring? No going head to head with ISTL.

    http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/oscar_predicts_chart

    • Beach girl says:

I was thinking the same thing. Tom still in UK and TIFF starts tomorrow. Probably fly in together.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Annie T’s been saying that all along about Miles Ahead; in the podcast linked to one or another of these recent Dragonfly threads she mentions pressing SPC for an answer re ‘wide release’ versus ANY release in 2016. Maybe she got that email she’d been waiting for!
She is the one to point out (when people implied that Miles Ahead closing the NYFF was a clear sign it would be given a limited release in 2015) that SPC picked up the film for distribution AFTER it was already scheduled for that gala. They could hardly pull it–but is it going to any other festivals?

So I’m willing to go along for now with the idea that they are reserving Miles Ahead for next year (it gives them a strong foundation for the 2017 Oscars even before the year begins.) Given that Miles Ahead has taken several years to be made already (wasn’t it Kickstarter’d?) I don’t think another six months or so–if it means full backing and no conflict for SPC–is going to hurt it.

      • KTE says:

The fact that they picked up both Oscar-bait musician biopics means they can make sure they get released in separate years and don’t compete against each other. It does neither of them any good to be released at the same time – they’d likely cannibalize each other’s audience and/or award nominations.

      • et alors says:

@TotallyBiased, an AW poster said GoldDerby clearly heard that Miles Ahead wasn’t going to get a 2015 qualifying run but that SPC couldn’t pull the film from NYFF after the acquisition. I remember wondering a couple weeks ago why no one was talking about the fact that the NYFF world premiere was announced prior to SPC acquiring MA, so MA closing NYFF didn’t automatically mean that SPC was going to dump ISTL for MA this awards season. SPC still not officially announcing a release date for Miles Ahead nor releasing a trailer for ISTL two days before its WP has me worried, though. They could be waiting to see how ISTL does at TIFF before finalizing their plans for both films.

  63. Beach girl says:

Nutty–yes, yes it does. I was particularly amused by him putting the turned milk back in the fridge. As we had just seen Audrey getting a wee bit curdled herself, I found it apt.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Good observation, TB! This only whet my appetite for a full-blown trailer. Did you see the new still on Twitter of Hank and Audrey that was released?

        https://twitter.com/BrittanySherwin/status/642033251570307072

      • jammypants says:

        He sounds fantastic.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I suspect we’ll have a new thread tomorrow with this new clip.

      • Lilacflowers says:

His voice is actually stronger than Hank’s but he does a nice job with it. The scene is set up as a recording so it can lend the idea of this being a recording that may have been re-recorded or mixed later to get the vocal sound the world became accustomed to hearing. Nicely done. Need more now.

        Also love Lego Loki’s version.

      • Absolutely says:

He sounds better than I thought he would. I’m holding out to hear the speaking accent though. I think it’s easier to sing with an accent than to speak with one. And Brits can never get the southern ‘r’s right, so I’m not expecting that.
Does anyone know what Williams was like as far as energy? It felt like that clip had a lot of Tom energy.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Hank was known for his charisma on and off the stage, but from the few videos I’ve seen he wasn’t as facially expressive as Tom. He had the jimmy leg tapping to the beat in the slower songs so I could imagine him jiving to Move It On Over like Tom was.

You’re right about the r’s. That’s the first thing I noticed about his accent.

My kiddos wanted to see Loki singing their favorite Hank song, so I just finished playing that clip about a dozen times. I like his take on Hank the more I hear it. The vocal maneuvers bring more personality to the delivery. I’m distracted by the veins popping out of his neck though!

    • koko says:

He looks good, this movie is just not my cup of tea, as they say.
My only other comment, the clip was too short.

  66. MI6 says:

    @nutballs
Yeah, I heard that too. You make some very legitimate points, btw. Don’t let nobody tell you any different.

    • NUTBALLS says:

      Thanks, MI6.

Have you recovered your speech? What did you think of Tom’s Hank?

      • MI6 says:

I’m not sure yet. He doesn’t sound exactly like Hank, but he doesn’t have to. He brings an essence to the character that is so brilliantly Tom Hiddleston that I don’t think anything more needs to be said.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Marc said they weren’t going for an exact replica. I like his interpretation of it. My biggest concern was the twang and pitch, which I think he did fine on both counts.

I want to hear Lizzy do Audrey. It needs to sound as horrible as it does here at 1:50:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36n-eNT2Y34

I also want to hear Tom speak in his best ‘bama drawl.

  67. NUTBALLS says:

Twitter is blowing up with this clip.

The Tommy Tsunami is gathering strength by the minute, by Sunday we’re gonna be drenched!

    • Heather says:

It’s alright, but I’m still cringing over the singing tbh. Why didn’t they release a trailer instead?

I want my High Rise clip now. Boo.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Perhaps we’ll have both trailers next week after the movies premier… although HR needs a US distributor still and a release date.

  68. TotallyBiased says:

Edited to add–Sorry, Nutty, didn’t see your post!
    https://twitter.com/POPSUGAREnt/status/642032572323766272

From Pop sugar, a different shot of Audrey on Hank’s lap. Whatever else is going on, I fully expect excellent ON-screen chemistry with these two!

    • Ladytron2000 says:

Eh. Twhiddles could have chemistry with a dried piece of bark. Case in point….

    • NUTBALLS says:

Whatever else is going on, I fully expect excellent ON-screen chemistry with these two

Yep, especially if something was brewing off-screen.

      • Madly says:

On screen chemistry is a poor indication of anything. You can have actors hate each other and show great chemistry in their work. He also has great chemistry with Naralie Portman in the Thor 2 movie. I think he is just good at that except with Rachel Weiz. Not saying anything didn’t happpen, just pointing it out.

Weird that the clip showed the home part and wasn’t just of him singing. And then the picture at what looks like from the same scene.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        *sigh*

They’re both good actors and can demonstrate chemistry with their co-stars. If there’s any real romance between these two, I expect no less. That’s all I meant. I wasn’t addressing every other possible scenario that can occur.

      • madly says:

        I know. lol, calm down.

    • NUTBALLS says:

This project has had so many changes and delays. I hope the move to Warner will help them pull things together once and for all.

After seeing Brie Larson in Short Term 12, I feel even better about her casting in the monkey movie. She’s one of the best young actresses I’ve seen in awhile. Looking forward to Room when it’s released.

      • MI6 says:

        @nutballs
Totally agree on all points. I saw Short Term 12 yesterday ( thanks for the Netflix tip, btw) and BL is just phenomenal!
I still hate this project for him, though. I can’t help myself. Don’t tell anyone😞

      • NUTBALLS says:

Ahh… I’m glad to find at least one C’bitch that can appreciate my enthusiasm for Brie. She knows how to give a very convincing and nuanced performance and I may just have to watch ST12 again soon, it was such a delight.

I’m not enthusiastic about a Kong movie either, but will probably see it for the actors I like. Perhaps I’ll be surprised and come away a fan of the franchise. Trying to keep an open mind about the whole project.

    • Beach girl says:

This just doesn’t feel right. Legendary has the same type of development contract with Warner as it does with Universal. Aren’t they building a SI theme park attraction? Why switch now???? Maybe Simmons and MK had the right idea.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Warner’s holds the Godzilla franchise. Legendary wants to do a Godzilla v Kong movie. This deal has been in the works for a long time.
