Star: Charlize Theron got stood up for a lunch date at an LA sushi joint

I go back and forth on how I perceive Charlize Theron’s reported unpleasantness. Like, is she just a straight-talking lady who doesn’t suffer fools? Or is she genuinely rude and unpleasant, the kind of woman who would roll her eyes and say “OH MY GOD” when a mere peasant smiled at her and said “hi”? I don’t know. I think it’s probably a little of Column A, a little of Column B. Charlize has been keeping a lower profile this summer, following her split from Ol’ Ham-Face Sean Penn. In late July, Charlize adopted a baby girl and she hasn’t said anything about it publicly. Even though she’s now a mom of two young kids, she still managed to find the time to meet a friend/date for lunch one night. Except her date never came!

If Charlize Theron can’t get a date, who can? Despite being one of the most beautiful ladies in the world, the 40-year-old lived every woman’s nightmare on Aug. 19 when she was stood up!

“Charlize had clearly planned to meet someone at the restaurant for lunch – she waited in her car for almost 20 minutes because she was early,” shares a witness at Hollywood sushi spot Sugarfish, where Charlize is a regular and frequently dines with a tall, bearded mystery man.

“The minute she sat down, she looked impatient, glancing around and checking her phone every few seconds… she even ordered two meals, assuming someone else was coming, but her date never showed! She ate alone and spent the whole time awkwardly on her phone to distract herself before she stormed out looking really annoyed!”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Oh, I would be FURIOUS. If you’ve ever been stood up before at a restaurant, it is absolutely one of the worst feelings in the world. I can’t believe the guy (??) didn’t even call! Seriously, even if this was a casual friends-dinner, the guy would be on my Sh-t List permanently. I know we’re supposed to be like “Oh, Charlize is so unpleasant, that’s why she got stood up.” But it’s rude as hell. And as someone who is perpetually early to everything, the whole “she waited in her car for 20 minutes” thing was particularly heartbreaking.

she is so gorgeous. I wish she’d make more movies because Charlize is a terrific actress. so glad she dumped Leatherface.

    • evermore says:

Love her. Stunning woman, great actress.

Yes, date Keeanu ….love him too. 🙂

    • Dhavynia says:

I know, I’m always mesmerized between her and Angelina because they’re both beautiful but Charlize can pull off that short hair like no one else. Plus they both have PBF which I can relate

I hope whoever stood her up made it up to her. That’s just rude

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

I am with you. I think she is absolutely stunning, and probably one, if not, the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood today. She has that old Hollywood glamour appeal. I remember the first time I ever saw her in that white cat suit in “Two Days in The Valley,” I think my jaw dropped. She reminded me a bit of Monroe. Since then, I have always been a huge fan. However, I was disappointed when I read here that she could be highly unpleasant because she always seems so affable in interviews, but then again, she’s an actress. 🙂

Thankfully, I have never been stood up before. But, I once waited almost half an hour and was just about to leave, when the party finally showed up. It is a crappy feeling, but luckily I was in a public park, so I could have just been sitting there anyway. In a restaurant? That is unacceptable.

  2. Shitler says:

    Can she date Keanu already?

    • Maya says:

Nooooo leave my poor beautiful Keanu alone – he deserves much better than someone who is rude and bitc*y like Charlize.

      • evermore says:

She’s stunning , talented and a lovely lady. He and Charlize have wonderful chemistry together.
        Yes Keeanu and Charlize, please.

Never believed all the hater crap. Love her.

    • KLO says:

      +1

Keanu seems like a tortured soul but to me, so does she. They looked like they adored each other every time I saw them together doing something on TV

    • Ronda says:

      please no.

    • Tilly says:

According to the blinds, he (allegedly) stalked her incessantly for years before Sean told him to back off, so they’re not likely to date anytime soon.

Besides, Keanu has his ‘someone special’ who he’s been seeing for a while (allegedly), and it’s not the person who he’s photographed with on occasion who is a mere distraction. All will be revealed in time to come … or maybe it won’t if he doesn’t think he’ll receive support from his fans.

  3. ashley says:

It happened to me,one of the worst feeling ever.

    • doofus says:

one of my male friends got stood up by his gf…he had gone to dinner with a ring, and I think she caught wind of what he was planning and bailed. didn’t call or anything, just left him sitting there for an hour. I felt SO bad for him.

  4. Maya says:

I don’t like Charlize but no one deserves to be stood up and be humiliated like that.

Unless there was a valid emergency – that person would be on my list as well.

  5. alex_r says:

I have always liked her acting but wasn’t a fan until Mad Max:Fury Road. She completely blew me away. The lady can act!!! Who cares if she isn’t the nicest person in the world? She is damned good at her job. And we are so much more forgiving when it comes to the male actors and their issues but god forbid, if a female actress is less than perfect.
And to whoever stood her up – what an asshole.

P.S She had the most sizzling chemistry with Tom Hardy. It’s a pity they didn’t get along – I would love to see these two in a movie together again.

    • Maya says:

      She was brilliant in Monster

      • alex_r says:

I have seen Monster – she is brilliant in it and deserved the Oscar. It’s just before MM:FR, I could admire her on an intellectual level but didn’t connect emotionally. I used to think, she was a cold actor but Furiosa changed my mind.

    • doofus says:

LOVED her as Furiosa. Just watched our newly purchased blue ray of Fury Road last night.

the behind the scenes stuff was awesome…all the info about the cars? SO COOL.

    • Tara says:

I agree. I just like her acting. People are so quick to call women the b-word when they are strong, intimidating and don’t put on phony smiles everywhere. Meanwhile truly difficult male actors get a pass and are seen as cool bad boys. Case in point: Tom Hardy. The man who shot Fury Road said how unprofessional he was and had the whole cast and crew waiting for a long time everyday because he was very late to the set everyday. He didn’t seem to have a problem with Charlize, but if she had done that, oh it would have been on every blog.

      • Tilly says:

Oh, but a huge number of those who work in the industry at all levels – make-up, PR, runners, … – all say the same thing about her – she is extremely rude, insulting, difficult, and just awful to be around. And it’s got nothing to do with her not smiling; she’s just awful. Her beautiful looks do not match her personality.

      • Tara says:

Who are these people? Give me names and quotes. Not tabloid people, paparazzi, annoying journalists. Because the people who actually know and work with her all say the same thing, that she is a very cool person with a great sense of humor. The list is endless. Her make up crew and other tech people frequently name her as one of their favorite celebrities to work with. Of course you would not want to believe them.

      • Tilly says:

Tara, who are these people that DO say she’s wonderful to work with? Do you have evidence to cite? I work in the biz so am not about to name names, but can assure you that she’s not as sweet as you’d like to believe.

  6. Ann says:

Meh. She’ll live. Sugar fish has great food. Do people really think that is the “worst thing that could ever happen to a woman”‘? Because I sure as hell don’t think so.

  7. Tiffany says:

She was upset and should have been. The story does not read she was rude to staff, just annoyed.

Also, it makes me wonder if Baked Ham stood her up.

  8. Amanda says:

This is Star Magazine so…. this is never happened.

    • PrincessMe says:

That’s what I’m thinking too. Plus “she even ordered two meals” makes me not believe it even more. Who just orders a meal for someone who’s not even there yet?

  9. Margaritachum says:

I’m sorry ladies but I’m still waiting for Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock to happen. I don’t know why it’s taking them so long. 😃

  10. KyleRandall says:

    Would you rather:
    a) Be stood up at a sushi restaurant and have to eat alone
    b) Share your birthday dinner at French Laundry with close friends and Sean Penn. He pays.

Dinner alone is the correct answer.

  11. Nancy says:

Didn’t even read the story, just want to gush over her. Just saw her in Mad Max with a shaved head and no makeup or glorious wardrobe and she stole the film. So gorgeous. I have a good friend who came here from South Africa about ten yrs ago and she too is striking. Another tall slender blonde….come to think of it, so is her husband. They make them pretty over there!

  12. Tara says:

Star routinely makes up stories about Charlize. They also claim Brad Pitt dates men on the side.

    • Tilly says:

Where there’s smoke … there have been blinds about Brad and what he gets up to.

      • Maya says:

Oh sweety – this is Brad Pitt we are talking about – one of the world most famous and recognised men.

If he did have affairs with men or women – it will be exposed.

      • Tara says:

Exactly Maya. I’m going to take a wild guess that the Brad Pitt story was not true. Someone believes a little too much of the trash tabloids they read. Star completely fabricates stories often. Sometimes it’s funny, but no one with sense takes them seriously.

  13. Faithmobile says:

If it means anything, my husband waited on her and said he was suprised at how nice she was. I don’t think she suffers fools.

  14. Doc says:

She looks like she storms out of everywhere looking annoyed.

    • Tara says:

Well that photo was taken at the airport where the paparazzi are at their most obnoxious and frequently bombard her with Sean Penn questions. It doesn’t represent her demeanor all the time.

  15. Debutante says:

All I know is I want and Lust over that gray bag she is carrying …Gorgeous !!

  16. Atrociousgit says:

    Haha at ol’ ham face.

I rather like Charlize – if she’s a bit hard faced and arrogant that’s no big deal.

I got stood up at the Ritz in London once. I was more furious than upset. I called a friend and said ‘please come here so I don’t look like such a massive loser drinking my bloody £19 cocktail on my own’ (neither of us had been there before).

  17. daniel says:

So seriously, who the hell stands up a beautiful woman like this?
