Johnny Depp showed up to TIFF with Amber Heard for the premiere of her movie, The Danish Girl. We haven’t heard much about her performance. All the buzz is about Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne, but that’s usually how it goes with Amber’s movies. She’s pretty and talks a tough game but doesn’t make an impact onscreen. It’s nice that Johnny showed up to support his lady when he’s also got all of his Black Mass promotion to do. Maybe they walked the carpet and split, but Amber probably wanted to watch her own movie.
Amber’s dress is Elie Saab, which is beautiful on her. I think she could have mixed up her hair and gone with an updo. Ever since she and Johnny officially hooked up, she’s been resisting the updos. Maybe because they’re so bohemian together, and so free. Remember when they got the munchies and raided bulk food bins with their bare hands? Those days are long gone, and I miss them. Johnny looks more dapper than usual in his pinstriped suit, which is probably not Dior Homme. Johnny has to wear Dior for his official appearances, but he can probably wear whatever he wants otherwise. Like, this suit looks more like Johnny’s own style than anything Dior would offer up, but I could be wrong.
Meanwhile, Page Six posted a mean weekend column about how Johnny’s lost his youthful looks. The article talks about Johnny’s awful teeth, which are fair game but might be remnants of his Jack Sparrow costume. Then they go further to talk about how he “will next appear in Black Mass” and “is evidently taking the Mass part of the title literally.” Page Six is usually not so aggressively snarky. So harsh.
Yet I do think Johnny is wearing lifts.

And I am guessing that trying to keep up with Amber has left him looking tired and defeated.
Johnny used to be so beautiful. Just gorgeous. But yeah – now he is dirty and nasty and Page 6 is right – he’s put on quite a bit of weight. If you believe Blind Gossip, it is because he had to stop drugs and now he is “medicating” with food. I’ll believe it. Looking at Amber, obviously working hard on her appearance and gorgeous – I wonder if she wants to yell at Johnny to take a shower and put on something that fits. He has turned into a caricature of himself.
I’m with you Celine, never found him appealing in any way. To each his own I suppose. I always thought he was smug and creepy, even when he was younger and cleaner.
He used to be such a pretty boy back in 21 Jump Street and the first Nightmare on Elm Street, but yes, he now perpetually looks to need a bath, a shave, and a tailor. The blinds say he gained alot of weight in rehab and he’s trying to hide it with baggy clothes. I feel bad for him. If I had to choose between sobriety for him or staying thin, I’d choose sobriety.
I liked him best at the time of Chocolat. He was already a grown up man, the boyish was gone but he was HOT. And their chemistry with Binoche was insane.

I used to adore Depp and seeing him like this is sad. It’s not age, look at Harrison Ford or Tom Hanks or Sean Connery or… long list of men who aged really nicely. It is the lifestyle – the bloat, the bad teeth, the greasy hair, the vacant look, the ill fitting clothes and all the embellishments – we get it, you are hip, cool and edgy, NOT! He is hiding behind the hats and scarves and necklaces, rings, bracelets, sunglasses and lifts. Get help Johnny, this is pathetic.

I saw the film too and Amber Heard is barely in it. When she is, she is mostly irritating. Maybe they were hoping that bringing Johnny Depp to the premieres will help with press?
But the director in introducing her prior to the film said when a role calls for getting the perfect embodiment of beauty you hire Amber Heard, I almost barfed a little. I mean Alicia Vikander is just as pretty and actually was able to act.
Maybe he was doing that to keep Johnny happy and interested in his next movie.
Amber has no scruples about stealing the spotlight from the real stars of the film. She did the same in Venice, big hair, big dress and Johnny on her arm. I guess she has to, because her job these days is to bring the glamour, for lack of acting talent.

The problem with Depp is more his fashion style: the bracelets and chains and scarves and hats. And the hair style. And the new partner. He never looked old next to Vanessa Paradies. They always had a very elegant french old Chanel style with slight dark or gothic touches which suited them well. But next to Amber? She doesn’t know how to dress up her man. @Lucia, I totally agrees with you. JD is abusing booze and or drugs. I saw a video of JD and AH last week on a red carpet and I noticed AH guiding him when he was turning around. I could Tell he was totally out of it. Btw, I’m not a JD fan but he was very handsome back in the day, not anymore. I red laney today and she mentioned she saw JD over the weekend and he was wearing his stripe suite, and in her opinion he looks much worse than in those photos.

Evidently Johnny is very insecure about their height differential. Three obvious ploys to get him closer to her height. He’s wearing platform shoes plus a tall hat. Any taller and it would be an Abe Lincoln stove pipe hat. The third trick is that she skips an updo because they do add visual height.

The wax statue looks 200% better of course. No, he isn’t ageing well. Must be an unhealthy lifestyle. When you compare him to Tom Cruise (roughly the same age?), the difference is astounding. And I don’t think Tom’s had work done – no more than lasers anyway. They do both wear lifts though lollll. The post on Johnny’s lifts last week was hilarious.

I don’t get the contempt these 2 get. It’s not like for the first time in Hollywood an older unkempt star/director/producer hangs out with a younger stunning woman or leaves his wife/partner for a younger model. Alicia deserves to be a big star. I saw her in Ex Machina and she was absolutely breathtaking. I mean, she commanded the screen and it was hard to take your eyes off her.
I agree. Alicia was wonderful in Ex Machina but she was supported by a first-class cast, script, and production in general. I haven’t seen Amber in any memorable roles or movies. She was in Pineapple Express; that’s all I remember. She seems to play the femme fatale roles and then complains about not being offered anything else because she’s just too beautiful.
I’ll have to give it some time and check out a few more of her films but at the moment, I find Alicia Vikander super-annoying. I saw her on the Tonight Show and she was so irritating with her aggressive insistence on everyone doing her Swedish holiday drinking game, chastizing them for not saying her name right, generally just being stuck up and pushy in a way that usually gets levelled against “Americans” from U.S. by Europeans so it’s surprising when I see the same behavior. Yes, she is gorgeous and I am still open to liking her characters but as a person, she feels a bit try-hard and snobby.

I didn’t know those awful silver caps were for Pirate’s reshoots. Anyway, sleep is a human right and poor Johnny needs to get more of it. Lainey’s post was right on about that. Nothing ages you more than lack of sleep, but combine that with alcohol and smoking, and even the genetically blessed – which Depp undeniably is – start looking like this when they hit 50.

I do think Amber is a pitiful replacement for Paradis looks wise. Amber looks like the 90’s to me. Kind of a corn-fed healthy wholesome thing going on, but ultimately not interesting or stylish in any way. Paradis in the other hand, wow-za, she only gets better with age. Funny how Johnny wants to be taller than the woman who he is with. Tom Cruise and Mick Jagger appear to desperately want to be shorter than the women who they are.
