Kendall Jenner’s been pretty quiet lately, at least for a member of the Kardashian Klan. Outlets recently figured out that she has a nip piercing due to a tight dress. She’s also been doing the catwalk thing at New York Fashion Week. Kendall’s very in demand at many of the international fashion weeks too, and now her success is translating into major dollars. She made her debut on the annual Forbes list of highest-paid models, which is interesting because people think she doesn’t have modelling cred. She never had to work too hard to get recognized, although I don’t doubt that she works some long hours in the job itself. Anyway, Kendall made the list with $4 million annual earnings, right behind Kate Moss. Forbes says her seemingly overnight success is down to the power of social media:
“We’re getting to a point where image visibility is more potent – it’s not just the money you earn,” explains Ivan Bart, President at IMG Models. With 19 million Instagram followers and 3.7 million Twitter followers, [Cara] Delevingne is one of the most prominent models on social media, bested only by newcomer Kendall Jenner, who joins the ranking at No. 16 with an estimated $4 million in earnings–and 36.4 million Instagram followers.
“Kendall’s generation is more influenced by digital media than television, magazines or any other forms of advertising,” agrees Chris Gay, general manager of The Society Management, which represents Jenner. Indeed, Jenner’s following – 58 million fans across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook combined – ensures any campaigns she appears in reach millions more, making her a smart bet for the likes of Estee Lauder, Calvin Klein and Karl Lagerfeld eyewear.
It also helps to be part of Taylor Swift’s much-publicized girl gang, which includes Jenner, Delevingne and Karlie Kloss (tied at No. 8; $5 million). Though Kloss is no longer a Victoria’s Secret Angel, having turned in her wings earlier this year, the 23-year-old is flush from deals with L’Oreal, Joe Fresh and Kate Spade.

It helps to be part of the Swift squad? I believe that’s the truth. Karlie Kloss and Kendall can both maintain high profiles just by hanging with Swift and appearing on her Instagram page. Swift receives validation by increasing her number of collectible friends, and they get something out of the deal too. Sure, maybe the friendships are real too, but not many people can maintain such a huge number of best friends.
Kendall is enjoying high success, and maybe she’ll be the only sister to ever break free of Kris Jenner’s clutches. $4 million must put Kendall in second place (behind Kim) as far as earning power goes, but Kylie is still winning the app war. Oh, and don’t download those apps. Apparently, people’s data is being compromised by those silly Kardashian apps.

Even though her name got her in the door, Kendall has proven herself to be good at her craft. The job of a runway model is to be a living hanger for the clothes. Pretty enough to not be a eye sore, but not so pretty and expressive you don’t look at the clothes.

She may be successful in modeling, but that does not equate to be good at modeling. The girl has dead eyes in every picture I see of her. It’s the same face. I don’t understand her popularity, especially because I consider her the dullest member of her family.

Look at all the models on a runway, they all look miserable. They’re probably hungry! Runway models are supposed to look dead in the eyes. They are supposed walk down the runway with a blank expression as not to distract from the clothes. NYFW’s clothes were pretty awful this year.

Which is all fine and well, and I honestly I could care less, until people start saying she’s a good model, because she’s not. Her face is the same in every shot, and her walk is awful. She’s an it girl because of her family name and the way young girls look up to her lifestyle. THAT is why she keeps getting jobs. And you need to check her Instagram if you think she is refreshing from her family. It’s all the same. Selfies, pictures of her naked body, etc.

I also think her sisters are ill advised to take close-up selfies with her. Kendall’s natural face just highlights the ridiculous work they’ve all had done to theirs. Add in the fact that she doesn’t trowel on the make-up and they all look really bad next to her.

Also, Kanye marrying Kim is a big part of why fashion even began thinking it was ok to go near reality stars – they’d have previously been considered downmarket hair extension/celebrity perfume peddlers, but Kanye marrying in happened at just the right time to give the family some cachet and for Kendall’s career to take off.
@teacakes: You sure give the Kardashians a lot of clout in the fashion industry. None of these bimbs know high fashion, except for Kendall. The K sisters all dress horribly, are about five foot tall and in Kim’s case wide. Kanye’s show was laughable and tanked. Kris Jenner is the center of her world, but hardly the fashion world. Kendall is not the first person from a famous family to model and she won’t be the last.
With the exception of Kim and Kourtney’s children, Kendall is the only other member of the Kardashian/Jenner family to not have some sort of nonsense hit the tabs this year.
I remember some business involving Kendall and running out on a restaurant tab, but nothing since. Even who she is dating has been kept low key with the exception of the rumour of her and a Jonas brother.

Meh. I read that she walks far fewer shows than the average model. Her success stems from her ads, which stems directly from her recognition, and I don’t think she worked at all for that. She hasn’t screwed up what she was gifted, but saying that she’s working all that hard is dubious.
She was all over NYFW. I think she does a good job. Plus, being in that family, I think the name would hurt her more than help her. I believe the majority of their fans are teenagers and it doesn’t hurt them at all that this site and ones like it keep their name up on a regular basis….in fact daily. We’re all keeping them alive by buying into the hype or at least commenting on it.
At least she is doing her Fame somewhat correctly, yes she had it easier in some ways but I think she has proven herself in many ways also. At least she has some class about her.
Class? My mother, grandmothers and aunties taught me that class is the culmination of a woman’s choices and that a lack of poor choices alone don’t bestow it. Not making regrettable decisions only prevents you from being gauche. Class/sophistication is the total effect of the layers we add and the reward for a holistic approach to being our best.
Kendall just happens to not have leaked an inappropriate video, drastically altered her body with cosmetic procedures and take selfies all day.she can only be compared to her sisters at this point. And even ignoring the fact that modeling isn’t known for its depth/longevity Kendall has a bit more to do before she attains classy status, imo.

I know most of her friends are girls she grew up with in Barbados.
When was Kendall every seen with Taylor though? I know she’s somewhat there by association with Gigi et al, but I’ve never seen her on Taylor’s instagram or elsewhere. Even at the VMAs Kendall was with her family, not with the Swift clan.
Not enough for it to affect her career. Kendall already had many millions of young followers on SM before any sort of ties to Taylor. They seem to have hung out only a few times, times which have been well-documented; they are not that close.
Walking on the runway has really turned into a popularity contest my gosh! All of Kendall possy are front and center. Her Gigi Bella are getting more jobs than legit amazon girls! People comment that they are nt good on the catwalks either. The designers have them opening and walk out with them! Especially gigis younger sister. Every time I see a story about her, I think about when she talked about her mother pulling them out of school for “homeschooling” (translating: being famous and doing nothing) and how sad she was to give up running track with the school team.
I too think she might be the only one to break free of that dreadful family and all their gross issues. I hope she leaves her face and body alone, strives to be more and more independent, and doesn’t let her mother control any of her career. I still think she hopped the line quite a bit with her family’s fame, but if she can prove herself worthy of it, at least she’s doing something.

Nepotism is a reality in all different industries, but I can’t fault her for this. She’s quietly freeing herself from her mom’s nonsense, while walking those runways (and, modeling is a really, really tough job, and I’m not being sarcastic). She could be doing like 90% photographic modeling, ads, and all that, without having to work it on every fashion show. She could easily do this, and still make crazy money.
You have to love it, especially considering that she could probably make hundreds of thousands by doing the easier stuff and live tweeting/instagramming/snapchatting everything.
And also, dead eyes, I think she has the blank expression all models have on the runway (with the exception of VS fashion shows), their job is not to be smiling and taking attention from their clothing, it is to be a walking display of the garments. That’s what she’s doing, and doing it well.
I like Kendall. She’s by no means perfect but I respect her so much for using her name to actually build a career for herself and make her own money. Just like it happened to Paris Hilton, the Kardashian empire of reality TV will eventually fade. Kendall at least built herself a cash cushion to fall on.

The fashion industry is not about how much you work, but who you work for. Gisele broke the “pretty face” barrier of models, becoming a celebrity in her own. Labels can book her the same way they would book, say, Keira Knightley, for a campaign.
I used to be a huge model-follower back in the day, but I’m out of touch now. Idk who Gisele is working for, but she’s in a position where she’s so in demand she can ask for big paychecks.
I used to find Kylie the most beautiful among them before she turned herself to a muppet. Kylie is obviously the most beautiful now even though she had some subtle works done to her face too. I have no problem with her getting the highest paid. Among all of the models this NYFW, she was the most watched and most followed and most mentioned on media outlets. She is working hard (for her profession) and she deserves it. I still think she needs to stop denying the fact that she got in to professional modeling on her own not because of family name and connections and needs to acknowledge Kim (more because of Kanye) for letting her step in the fashion world and giving her the opportunity to be a model.

Nowadays, the one with the most social media followers is the one who will make the most money in the modeling industry. She isn’t natural. She’s CLEARLY had some kind of eyebrow lift or eyelid surgery. Eyelids don’t change that dramatically during puberty. Look at her before and after photos. She’s also had something done to her cheekbones and nose. It is SUBTLE but she’s plastic as well. I’m not against plastic surgery, I’ve had some done myself. I have an issue with people applauding her like she deserves a medal. She’s bloody privileged and she has the cheek to say she worked for it and her family didn’t help her get where she is. They may have been bad for her image but without their fame she wouldn’t have been noticed. Send them all back to the succubus they came from.
