Jaimie Alexander in colorful Armani Prive at the Emmys: gorgeous or garish?

Jaimie Alexander

Jaimie Alexander made a bit of a Twitter splash last night at the Emmys. People were a little surprised because she generally likes to draw attention to herself by showing a lot of skin. In contrast, this Armani Prive dress covered everything up. There’s an ready explanation in the form of her Blindspot tattoos. Jaimie told Giuliana that she couldn’t remove all of the residual dye, and she even had some visible ink on her neck. This show had better work out for all this makeup trouble, right? Jaimie looked really pretty in this reflective, multicolored dress. The stripes remind me of those colored rocks you find in caves. Her hair is all slicked back for “the wet look,” but it works because this ensemble would otherwise overpower.

Emma Roberts wore a pale, Grecian-inspired Jenny Packham dress that wasn’t my favorite. Since her hair is blonde now, and her skin is so pale, she needed a darker color to prevent looking washed out. Otherwise, her styling with a simple necklace strand and a bold clutch, was good, and her makeup was very pretty. Emma has a beautiful smile, even if she often plays terrifying characters these days.

Aubrey Plaza went basic but not at all boring with this Alexandre Vauthier dress. The deep v-neck and the high-thigh split make this dress more interesting than it would otherwise be. The glittery red sequins dress up the jersey-style fabric. Her hair is a little too perfect, and I think it would have been a fun contrast to add some volume.

Jane Krakowski

Jane Krakowski looked uncomfortable in a pink and black Bibhu Mohapatra gown with a slight fishtail. I didn’t like this dress at all but get what she was going for — old Hollywood glamour. It just didn’t execute so well, and she’s pose harding like crazy.

Jane Krakowski

Kathryn Hahn wore a Vivienne Westwood dress that was too casual, which is heartbreaking. This dress would have been funky enough for a red carpet premiere, but it looks a little too chaotic for the Emmys. A sleek updo may have helped balance the wildness.

Aubrey Plaza looks absolutely fantastic – and one of the very few not to look like she is melting before our eyes, so always a plus!

    • Kitten says:

Really? My reaction was the exact opposite. I hadn’t seen pics of her in a while and I forgot how much weight she lost. She is VERY thin compared to her former physique.

  2. Matador says:

Kathryn Hahn, another contender for worst dressed.

  3. mia girl says:

Jamie Alexander’s dress looked even better under the tv lights

Aubrey Plaza looks great – sexy.

Poor Jane Krakowski wanted to win so bad. You could see her strained look of pain when Allison Janney won.

Emma Roberts is like a stepford teen devoid of personality

Kathryn Hahn looks like she’s auditioning to be a bridesmade at Helena Bonham Carter’s next wedding.

  4. Tilly says:

I thought Aubrey’s dress was disappointing … it just looked like she grabbed the first thing she saw. And her hair and make-up looked very ‘everyday’ … if you put your hand over her dress, and imagine her in yoga pants and trainers, she’d just look like everyone else … as in no effort was made whatsoever. Maybe she slept through her alarm or had the wrong day or something.

Jane Krakowski never disappoints dress-wise but really needed to use her purple shampoo to tone down those brassy highlights. It’s a shame she never smiles like she used to at these things.

Kathryn Hahn looks dreadful – the dress is bad enough, but her hair, make-up, the way she’s standing … ugh!

Emma Roberts does not suit blonde – it’s too severe on her and does her absolutely no favours.

I actually don’t mind Jaimie’s dress – although if it was shin-length and narrowed in at the bottom, it would look amazing – or her hair (I’m probably in the minority there as a lot of people were saying yesterday that they hated it), but I do wonder what treatments she’s having done to her face to make one side appear raised and the other side droop … she never used to have that problem.

  5. missmerry says:

ill never look at Roberts the same after the situation with Evan Peters.
She will always look like a rage-monster-who-will-strike-at-any-moment to me.

  6. Franca says:

Plaza amd Hahn were among the best dressed, I love both looks.

  7. Rockin Robin says:

Awful. She looked like a Christmas tree.

  8. Shambles says:

Emma’s blonde is not working for her. Much too Playboy. She needs something ashier, IMO. But she does have a lovely smile. She looks like her Aunt Julia with that signature smile.

    • I Choose Me says:

Yes to everything you said, esp. about her smile being so reminiscent of Julia. Seems like her personality’s just as rotten as well.

    • lucy2 says:

Yes, the blonde is not flattering to her. She has pretty but large features on a tiny face, kind of like Anne Hathaway, and the darker hair works better, IMO.

  9. MG says:

I love Aubrey’s dress because it looks so comfortable….but still sexy. That would be the look I want.

  10. Hudson Girl says:

Jaime Alexander’s dress was meh. Not horrible, not good. But, I can’t stand Armani’s dated cluelessness.
    Her face, though, is breathtaking!

  11. serena says:

Um, no, it doesn’t work on Jamie. The slicked back hair looks just dirty to me, and the dress would have been fine without sleeves, like that it’s just too much!

  12. vauvert says:

Jaime is gorgeous, and I loved seeing her in a slinky dress that showed her killer curves without going all nude on us, but the fabric /pattern was weird, gave me a overheated electronic motherboard vibes. But that’s just me. If the dress would have been just one or two of the bold colours it would have been perfection.
Aubrey’s dress is so close to greatness… but again with the deep V – my Lord, when is this trend going away??? And the fabric looks like a really cheap Le Chateau teenage glam pick.
That Vivienne Westwood dress… oh where to begin? She was never my jam, but every once in a while she comes up with something so revolting looking, like a moulting grandma shawl that had an affair with a Victorian couch, that you just want to burn it all. Yikes.
Emma is boring, her dress is boring, her eyebrows are too dark or her hair too blond – anyway, the contrast is too much.
I love Jane but that dress is as try hard as her posing.

  13. SamiHami says:

Emma Roberts is a lovely young woman…when she is a brunette. Blond hair does not suit her at all. And her brows are awful! I hate the giant, thick eyebrow trend of late. It doesn’t work on anyone.

That super-colorful dress is gorgeous! Love it! Jaime Alexander nailed it, imho.

  14. Carol says:

I think all these ladies except Katherine Hahn were the best dressed of the night.

  15. Cinderella says:

Jaime looks gorgeous. Emma looks washed out.

  16. Scarlet Vixen says:

I actually like Jaime’s dress–I appreciate that she’s not half naked, and I’m a fan of a good sleeve. I HATE her hair, tho. 1920s style finger waves would have still been sleek and sculptural, but just enough softness to not look gross.

  17. Mar says:

I would love Emma’s look on someone else’s- but it washes her out dreadfully.

  18. Anare says:

Jaimie Alexander’s Armani dress was perfection. Loved it! I agree with a slick hair style with that dress but her chopped ends flaring out like that is bugging me.

  19. Carmen says:

Absolutely love Alexander’s dress but she must have been roasting in it. It was 106 degrees at the Emmys last night.

  20. Miran says:

I like the dress but for the life of me I will never understand that slicked back wet look hairstyle. It always just looks greasy and dirty.

Also I’m sorry but Emma Roberts doesn’t do it for me. I don’t find her attractive at all.

  21. taxi says:

Jaimie’s dress is beautiful & shows off her great figure but it isn’t weather-appropriate. Save it for November-December. The weird apron-bib on Jane’s dress confuses me. Emma’s heavy eye makeup is bad – aren’t we over the heroin chic look?

  22. Bridget says:

I can’t even get through the previews for Scream Queens, Emma Roberts is so bad.

I love that Jaimie did something different. The dress isn’t necessarily seasonally appropriate, but it’s fun.

  23. lucy2 says:

Aubrey’s look is my favorite by far, simple but gorgeous.

I can’t decide if I like Jaimie’s, but the slicked hair isn’t flattering to her, IMO.
