Kate Winslet looks Botoxy, claims Botox rumors are ‘100 percent not true’

tk

This is easily one of the oddest editorials I’ve ever seen with Kate Winslet. Usually, Winslet is styled in A) classic English rose or B) total vamp. Rarely does she agree to high-fashion androgynous/minimalist styling. I can’t say that I really feel like this look suits her. If anything, it makes her (alleged) face work a bit more obvious. Anyway, Kate has a lengthy feature in the new issue of WSJ. Magazine. You can see the full feature here. She chats about everything, from how she got the role in Steve Jobs to where she keeps her Oscar for The Reader. Some highlights:

Keeping the details of her divorces private: “No one really knows what has happened in my life. No one really knows why my first marriage didn’t last; no one knows why my second didn’t. And I’m proud of those silences.”

Failed marriages: “I know lots of people who are not in the public eye who have gone through several marriages, I really do, and it’s just those are the cards that life dealt me. I didn’t plan on its being that way . And f— me, it hasn’t been easy, you know.”

Her husband, Ned Rocknroll: “Thank God for Ned — really. He’s just so incredibly supportive, and he’s so much fun. He’s absolutely everything to me. And to all of us.”

Traveling with family: “People assume that [actors] go off for months on end. A lot of journalists say to me, ‘So, I bet you’re looking forward to having some time with your kids,’ and I think, ‘I’m with them all the f—ing time.’ I don’t leave anyone behind; that’s just not the way it goes.”

Botox rumors: “Just a couple of hours ago, my publicist sent an email saying that some journalist from the Daily Mail has a picture of me from an event last night and is saying that I appear to have lost all the baby weight and how did I do that? And do I want to comment on the fact that experts are saying that I’ve had Botox? I just get irritated by that s—. First of all, the latter is 100 percent not true, and secondly, it’s f—ing 18 months later. Of course I’m going to get back at some point.”

Preferring not to be referred to as a movie star: “I’ve always been so uncomfortable with that. I just don’t feel like one, and I don’t live like one either— not the way I imagine a proper movie star living.”

Why she keeps her Oscar in the bathroom: “The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad’—and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed. They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.”

Nude scenes and body image: “I don’t think I can get away with it now,” she says. “I’ve never had a body double—that would feel like lying. So I am probably done… I get really big when I am pregnant. There are things that will never go back, but in terms of physically feeling back and healthy, I do.”

[From WSJ. Magazine]

Again with the Botox denial? Sure. I do feel sympathy for all of the crap she gets about her failed marriages. I think she’s a bit like Jennifer Lopez, you know? In love with love. Always ready to drop everything and have a baby with the new guy. And I’m actually surprised that whatever she has with Ned RockNRoll is working. Aren’t you?

Most of the piece is just a straight interview with Winslet, but there are quotes from her colleagues interspersed throughout. Winslet herself talks about how amazing it was to have Michael Fassbender carry the burden of being the lead in the film and how she was “maternal” towards him, constantly offering him tea and snacks. Fassy says the same thing, telling the magazine that Winslet “was always doing things like booking hotels for me to get away and restaurants and trying to make sure that I was looking after myself.” Aw. That is nice.

I think she looks beautiful and I really like her as an actress. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorite movies of all time.

    • Hudson Girl says:

She is an incredibly talented actress and seems sweet if not a little loopy.

In these pics- even after Photoshop- it looks like she had a facelift that hasn’t settled yet. It’s hard to tell about Botox in still images.
(I’m not at all against facelifts. But, I do think Botox is dumb for an Actor who needs to move their face and show emotion.)

    • evermore says:

She is one of the most beautiful actress in films, I think she’s absolutely stunning. Saw her in in Beverly Hills at a BAFTA event, she doesn’t look worked at all, she looks like a beautiful English woman. She has good bones and is ageing nicely.
Not everyone ages the same or turns to pot as they age , she looks good and she can’t help if magazines photoshopp.

She is still gorgeous. I don’t think she does botox at all.
I have a Aunt with barely a line on her face and she’s 70, not everyone’s skin gets all lined and wrinkly.

      • hadlyB says:

Is she over weight? A lot of people who are over weight tend to not show wrinkles.

I had one Gran overweight with the most beautiful skin, no wrinkles but she was fat there was no doubt. Another one was thin all her life and her face showed it. Both stayed out of the sun, the latter ate very healthy, no smoking etc.

But still, even with no wrinkles at a certain age you don’t look young. Your face DOES change as it ages — there is the thinning out, the sagging, the neck, the jowls, the eyes, lips get smaller, even your bones change underneath that is a fact and your teeth and gums etc. No one looks 30 at 70 even with no wrinkles.

Unfortunately there is much more to aging than just wrinkles.

    • Sarah says:

She looks way more photoshopped than botoxed to be honest.

      • Granger says:

I was going to say the same thing. I couldn’t possibly tell if she’s had Botox from these seriously doctored photos.

      • jammypants says:

yea thought the same as well. Her face doesn’t look puffy or stretched at all.

      • anna2222222 says:

Also they’ve given her a Croyden facelift. That’ll give an overly taut look to anyone.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I think she’s been photoshopped, and botoxed, and had plastic surgery. About 5 years ago she looked like Madonna, but then her face started to fill out again and she started looking like her old self. But now I think she’s doing it again. Whatever. She’s such a liar that she’s starting to be like Tom Cruise to me — can’t watch them in movies anymore because I dislike them so much personally, and I can’t get over that.

      • Anne says:

@Mrs.Krabapple: Yes, I think early in her career she had some very good work done. It grates on me a bit when people get defensive about those rumors when the difference is apparent. She might as well be saying, “I am lying to you.” Just tell me it’s none of my business, I’d agree with you.

      • siri says:

I agree, those pics are so doctored, it’s impossible to say anything about Botox. I found this photo, and that looks very different from the ones above:
        http://a.abcnews.go.com/images/Entertainment/gty_kate_winslet_mt_141003_12x5_1600.jpg

    • lola says:

I liked her in the HBO Mildred Pierce mini series.

She shouldn’t have done the nude scene in that, there were a lot of things jiggling and bouncing on her body that shouldn’t have been.

      • piecesofme says:

I had the exact opposite reaction–I was so glad to see a body that looked like a body and be so gorgeous! Skin is elastic so that it can bend and stretch and fold and bounce, so our bodies can do all the amazing things it can do. The lie is when all of those things are erased or only the very young and child-free are photographed unaltered.

  2. Banjo's Ma says:

I love Kate but lady has a few roos loose in the top paddock.

Coincidentally we just watched Holy Smoke and my god it was crap. Her and Harvey Keitel? Just revolting.

    That is all.

    • NewWester says:

“A few roos loose in the top paddock” I love that expression! I will have to remember that! Lol

    • Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

I liked Holy Smoke. The scene where she made him up to look like a woman as gold.

  3. bellenola says:

I don’t think she looks botox-y. I think she kind of does her own thing and I like her.

    • evermore says:

Love her. The woman is stunning and she looks gorgeous. She has good bone structure. Her face is beautiful.

  4. paola says:

I don’t think she is like JLo at all.
JLo seems clueless and her pants are always on fire while Kate Winslet is always trying to excuse herself for her life choices. As if she knows exactly what people think, maybe because she thinks that herself too?
She looks incredibly beautiful botox or not. Her forehead free from any kind of lines is very suspicious.

    • kay says:

      It’s called photoshop.

      • Palar says:

Exactly she looks more photoshopped than botoxed.

      • QQ says:

to me too Palar, I Think she is a bit like Jolie in this, all the expensive good care money can buy, expensive facial, cold laser all that good stuff but not necessarily Injectables yet?

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

I think she’s beginning to look like Keira Knightly, and I bet there’s a reason for that.

    • Kate says:

You’d have to be next level delusional to marry a guy who legally changed his name to Rock’n’Roll and not realise a lot of people would judge. That’s the kind of decision you can get away with when you’re 21 and drunk. If you’re a twice divorced mother of two in your late 30’s, people will think you’re stupid and/or nuts and you’d have to be blind and deaf not to pick up on that.

She’s so defensive about that choice I’m somewhat surprised he hasn’t changed his name back.

    • evermore says:

Exactly it’s photoshopp, not botox. Kate just has some stunning bone structure. She has always been gorgeous.

  5. Maum says:

She would never admit to Botox.

She’s too obsessed about her ‘normal’ image.

    • alice says:

Absolutely. Why not just admit it ? Robin Wright admitted it and basically said that everyone on Hollywood is doing it and she’s not less talented or not to take seriously as an actress because she admitted the botox. More of less obviously, good or bad work, but 99 % actresses do SOMETHING surgical or cosmetic…I could tell even Meryl is having facials and peelings…It’s just that Kate is trapped in her hypocrite crusade

    • What was that says:

      Exactly!
“Just ordinary ” Kate is full of it…Not for the first time either!
It’s probably something like Botox or similar so it’s ‘deniable’
Although talented that woman is capable of some story telling about her life!

  6. lucy2 says:

I don’t think we can judge Botox or not based on these or any other magazine photoshoot, giving the amount of Photoshop that goes into them.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Agree. Who knows?

    • BW says:

Agreed. It looks more like photoshop to me.

I think it’s great that she keeps her Oscar in the loo. That’s a great idea.

    • Joaneu says:

Kate has publicly complained about the use of photoshopping in the past, particularly that her own legs had never been so thin in real life. They do it to everyone these days ….

  7. Lilacflowers says:

Those pictures look like they photo-shopped her face away.

  8. Square Bologna says:

    Botox or Photoshop or both.

    • Pandy says:

Yeah, you can’t tell from a magazine shoot and frankly – I don’t care that she uses botox. So do I – and I don’t have to look at my face on a giant screen lol.

  9. Astrid says:

I didn’t even recognize her in the header photo. Over the top tox and strange styling. I’ll always think of her from Titanic and marrying some guy with a crazy name RockNrolla….what a legacy.

  10. ali.hanlon says:

    Love these pictures.

As for the Botox? Is she using something else?

  11. vauvert says:

Kate you are beautiful and talented, but please stop with the potty mouth in interviews. You are an adult long finished with whatever teen rebellious phase you have gone through. Enough. And stop defending your life choices, you know, and the humble brag about how you didn’t spill dirty details about your exes and divorces. First, I don’t think people care all that much and second, why bring them up again? Lastly, do you really think anyone is blind. Yes you had some good work done. We understand, it is HW. Denying it doesn’t help, really.
PS Hate this styling, doesn’t suit her very well. In fact I have never seen anyone with nude makeup and photoshopped to be so streamlined that looks good.

  12. arbelia says:

I don’t think she looks botoxy at all. There’s tons of videos of the cast promoting Steve Jobs, and her wrinkes are really visible ( particularly on her forehead). But she said that during the festival/awards period she had a facial every few weeks at a facialist that Mary-Louise Parker recommended her .She always look fresher during the award season .

  13. leigh says:

I can’t judge people–especially actors–for wanting to look their best. I have always found her stunning and whatever she uses I would like to know what it is, so I can save my pennies and do it.

Her hubby must be great. He would have to be to get passed that embarrassing name.

  14. Peggy says:

She was booking hotels for Fassy, maybe Fassy did not get the hint that she wanted to come over later.
The guy did not just fall off the turnip truck, he is almost forty, he does like women with a bit of olive in their skin, so sorry Kate.
Oh poor Kate is just like Aniston rinse and repeat, Botox, body issues, baby daddies, marriages, and a poser for a husband.

    • Adriana says:

I don’t get why people hate Aniston much on this site . No need to drag her in and put her down and even put down Kate. Both of them are very low profile and are good at what they do.

      • FingerBinger says:

Aniston gets dragged into everything. It happens so often I don’t think people realize they’re doing it.

      • lucy2 says:

I don’t get why she needs to be brought up in every post. Every day someone mentions her in a post that has nothing to do with her.

      • JenniferJustice says:

        Apparently it’s time again….now everyone…all together…..BALLS!

  15. kri says:

She has def done something. I thought it was Julianna Margulies.

  16. Gabriella says:

I love what she said about keeping the Oscar in the bathroom.

    • Mica says:

LOL, yes I loved that too

    • sills says:

Me too, that’s hilarious and hell yeah I would make an Oscar Speech in the mirror too.

    • boredblond says:

Not me..I’m so f’ing sick of these ‘I’m such an artiste actors’ –an Oscar puts you on a list with some truly talented people..it was not forced on you–you submitted your name, made the talk show rounds to promote yourself, and in most cases had a clause in your contract that the studio would pay for all Oscar promo expenses. If you think it is so below you, then don’t submit your name for consideration!

    • Tiffany says:

It sounds like the same story Emma Thompson told when she won.

      • K2 says:

It is the same story – Kenneth Branagh used to tell it too, as they were still married at the time.

Kate also told the exact same story Reese Witherspoon used in a US interview when appearing on British TV. Both claimed people ask who their chef is, and they say, “Reese/Kate!” It was word perfect identical. Can only imagine they have the same publicist.

  17. minx says:

She’s a good actress and I usually like her, but sometimes…
She’s always “answering her critics”–I think, just let it go.

    • I Choose Me says:

This is how I feel about her as well. I’d like her to just not give a sh*t ya know? And stop trying convince everyone she’s so down to earth. The thing is, I think she probably is down to earth but like Anne Hathaway, she want people to like her and is bothered when they don’t.

  18. Nan says:

She LOOKS like JLo in this editorial.

  19. ell says:

I must be going blind, but I see no botox, just airbrushing probably. that said, we need to stop crucifying actresses for choosing to get some work done, they can never win. if they don’t “oh they look so old” if they do “why did they do it”. let’s just let people be.

as for her marriages, i mean mendes cheated on her with rebecca hall, it’s a very well known fact. it’s hard to blame a person who gets out of a marriage because she was cheated on so I don’t see her as being like jlo at all. however, her current husband seems to be let down, she could do far better. maybe he’s supportive and it works.

  20. Freddy Spaghetti says:

Those photos are awful. The styling is horrible and then she was photoshopped very badly. I’m sure she’s had work done but she’s so adamant about botox that I think maybe she really doesn’t want a toxin that can kill you if eaten injected into her face.

  21. lizzie says:

she seems to develop deep relationships with her male co-stars that i truly believe are platonic and maternal. her and leo are super tight and were never a thing. i think several of her male co-stars have made similar comments to fassbender.

  22. ickythump says:

She’s photoshopped to the hilt in these – check her out in “Enigma” 2001 – you wont recognise her.

  23. mkyarwood says:

Maybe it’s a combination of whatever that thing Lainey gets done is and photoshop?

  24. parissucksliterally says:

Please. She denies a nose job too. A few years back there was an article on her in InStyle Magazine. There were 10 side by side pics of her – you can totally see her nose is thinner, and used to have a bulbous tip – no longer there. She said something like, “You’d think I had a nose job! But I have never had anything done!”

    LIARMOUTH.

    • minx says:

I thought the same thing. If you look at her nose from the Heavenly Creatures/Hamlet/Titanic years the tip was definitely thicker. What she had done was subtle but it had to be from plastic surgery.

      • hmph says:

Shame. I don’t think some women realize you actually look younger with rounder features and that includes the nose. A roundish tip actually makes your face appear younger.
Not that younger = more beautiful but let’s face it, for an actress it definitely helps to keep ones “youthful beauty”.

  25. alice says:

She and some other Brit actresses have made a crusade against Botox so now, even it’s so obvious that she’s using it and fillers too, she’s trapped by her own words and will never be free to admit it, ..now who’s the hypocrite Kate?

  26. Ennie says:

She looks so smug that it somehow looks botoxy (the higher eyebrow and attitude.

  27. bloghopper says:

speaking of botox, did anyone watch modern family last night and notice julie bowen’s face? i couldn’t stop staring at her – she got a lot of tweaking done over the summer…

    • tttttttt says:

You are right she does seem frozen and with fillers. so weird with actresses esp in US ,,,, the whole point is to be able to show expressions. Also I don’t like her hair color I wish she would change it maybe something warmer

    • misery chick says:

@ BLOGHOPPER-ITA! When I saw her on the Emmys I had absolutely no idea who she was until she started talking. She looked good I guess, but nothing like Julie Bowen 😱

  28. Reece says:

Nah that’s airbrushing, angles and lighting. A lot of them all!

    • tttttttt says:

You are right thats a photoshoot so can’t rely on that at all. On other hand I don’t doubt she does laser treatments etc

  29. Bonnie says:

FWIW, my mom works for TSA meets a shit ton of celebrities. She met Kate Winslet (one of a hundreds of celebs, politicians, etc). Mom says she was makeup free, and naturally beautiful. Stunning.
Also, her voice was almost “regal, very proper and very well spoken. Almost hypontic. ” My mom was so excited to meet her.

I don’t see this woman using botox. She seems to have always been proud of herself without modification.

  30. TopCat says:

Frankly I don’t care whether or not Kate has had botox. I adore her as an actress and person. She is a mother, an incredible actress and a hugely successful woman. Why should we care if she did or didn’t have botox?

  31. Cam says:

There’s no reason to not warm to Kate but I am not warming to her anyway, now or ever. She’s just so eager to show she’s down to earth all the time, and she’s an overracted actress (good but not great in The Reader, as in most of her roles), like a more senior version of Carey Mulligan, another go-to English-rose type for HW. And she did talk about Jim Threapleton disliking being outshone by her much more successful career and telling her to turn down very good roles and that’s why they divorced.
