Tom Hiddleston hopes there’s ‘no fighting’ between his fans & the Cumberbitches

FFN_GGFF_Celebs_Today_Show_10142015_51878753

I hope New Yorkers spent a lot of time outdoors yesterday, because there was a heavy scent of Hiddles in the air. Tom Hiddleston was in town to promote Crimson Peak with the ladies (Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain), and I’m sure some New Yorkers were lucky enough to see Hiddles In the Wild. Hiddles On the Street. Hiddles On the Sidewalk. Hiddles Smiling At Paps. Enjoy! Early Wednesday morning, Hiddleston was spotted out and about around Rockefeller Center. He was there because he and Mia appeared on the Today Show:

This is one of the rare times that we’ve seen Tom in some kind of live interview situation or live-show situation where he didn’t come across like a try-hard dweeb or an over-eager puppy. He was totally fine here. Possibly because they make these actors get up at the crack of dawn to be interrogated by THREE Today Show people for what was just a four-minute segment. Weird.

Oh, and on Tuesday night, Tom did the TimesTalk, which is basically just a live discussion with an audience. The moderator, Melena Ryzik, asked him the hard questions. Hard questions like… if the Cumberbitches and Hiddlestoners got into a fight, who would win? To which Tom replied:

I don’t think … I think Benedict, if he was standing here, we would want there to be no fighting. No fighting involved. Only passion and very much try to inspire love as opposed to pugnaciousness.

[From Vulture]

At the end of the day, I’m more of a Cumberbitch than a Hiddlestoner/Dragonfly, although I do enjoy both men. As much as I would truly enjoy a fandom flame war, I think we just have to make our peace with the fact that Benedict and Tom truly like and respect each other.

Silly story! Its overkill on hiddleston stories in this site lately.

    • EscapedConvent says:

I agree. Let’s go back to Cumberbatch overkill so we can rip him to shreds!
      Kidding….😉

    • kay says:

That he even adresses this is the bigger joke.

      • NUTBALLS says:

How dare he answer the question being asked by the interviewer!!

      • kay says:

He is taking his fandom way too serious for a man his age. And yeah, it’s ridiculous.

      • Bay says:

So, Tom was supposed to answer back in “No! Don’t ask me that! It’s ridiculous! I’m leaving right this second if you don’t quit that nonsense! HUMPF!!!” terms? No, really, what do YOU want?

      • SusanneToo says:

Sometimes I’m tempted to go on Duggar or Kardashian threads and ask “WTH are these trashy people being covered?” but it seems rather churlish to do that, so instead I just don’t click on those threads. Problem solved.

    • TotallyBiased says:

And yet here you both are.

      • kay says:

Yes, here we are, imagine not only fans get to comment.

      • Leah says:

        @kay
They think celebitchy is a hiddleston fan site. Cant say i blame them, i get confused too….

      • NUTBALLS says:

Ladies, you do realize that there was a very long drought of Hiddleston stories as he was working nearly non-stop for 18 months followed by a short flood of posts in the past 6 weeks, right? This is how it works when someone who inspires 100-300 clicks goes on a promotional tour…

He’s heading into the jungle next week to film the monkey movie so he’ll be disappearing for the most part starting next week. We’ll get occasional posts on print articles that have yet to come out, that’s all. You won’t have to endure his posts on a daily basis…

      • kay says:

NUTBALLS : follow him to the jungle, I’m sure he’ll give you an interview.

      • NUTBALLS says:

kay, you sound like you could use a drink. You’re getting way too worked up over an actor promoting his movies and the fact that CB knows who inspires the clicks and therefore, generates income.

If he bothers you so much, why don’t you just skip over his posts? That’s what I do for 75% of the people featured here. I don’t care so I don’t click. I don’t get upset about those posts since other people do enjoy reading and commenting. I have no problem with them having their say on posts that don’t interest me. Why do you feel the need to come and trash talk and try and spoil other people’s fun?

      • p'enny says:

        nutballs, our plane is waiting

      • SusanneToo says:

        @Nutballs and TB. +1

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Nutballs, come away, dear. Have a sparkly beverage and help us discuss more important things. Like which blue shirt Thomas should wear to this afternoon’s taping of tomorrow’s Colbert show. And then, as P’enny says, our plane to the jungle is waiting. No need to fret and argue. Kay can like or not like whoever she chooses – and she’s one less on the share list

      • Ali says:

        @nutballs
You do realise he’s not the only actor who’s got a movie to promote right now? The number of posts about him is insane.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Ali, It’s about supply and demand. We’re already closing in on 80 comments for a post that didn’t have anything particularly newsworthy. No one but Cumby inspires the number of comments that Tom does on this site. He’s usually over 100 and often in the 200-300 range. Why? Because the ladies who regularly come here to chat talk about more than the subject of the post and when posts are less frequent, we come back and chat for days, which drives the numbers up. Same with Cumby. His posts will stay active for days with new comments and discussions.

      • Ali says:

I wouldn’t say it’s supply and demand as much as its a few of his most ardent fans making 10+ comments in each post about him. It’s actually a relative small number of individuals as far as I can see who make the majority of comments. I’ll give his biggest fan girls credit as they are totally devoted to making the writers on this site write as much about him as humanly possible.

      • Bay says:

No, Ali: Tom haters who click n’ post, also feed in to those numbers. Thus, don’t be so humble: credit goes to you too.

      • Ali says:

        Bay:
Am I a “hater” because I think he’s overexposed? It’s hardly an inaccurate comment if you look at all the posts about him. It’s not even a critism against his person. There’s no need to insult people.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I find it slightly disturbing that someone is counting the number of posts individuals put up. Also, it is called “discussion” and “debate” and “conversation.” People have those on these threads and others and people are going to gravitate to the subjects that interest them. I steer clear of Anniston threads or Leo DiCaprio threads but those get quite lengthy too and I’m sure people are not posting just one thought. They engage in discussion. Any opinion expressed on any topic is going to generate responses pro, con and indifferent and people need to accept that and be polite. If there are other actors you wish to hear about and they’re actively doing something, let Kaiser know but don’t wish less of something others do enjoy.

      • jammypants says:

@Ali, the site owner happens to like Hiddles so she’ll post as many articles as she wants. His posts usually always garner fun discussions. It’s not up to the users what the site creators want to showcase as hot topics. Like, I really am really sick of Kardashian-Jenners, but I have no energy or care in the world to say what the content creators should share. When the Cumberbatch posts got too heavy, I just don’t bother. There are so many topics to choose from and discuss. Why pick one you don’t like? I mean you are free to do so, but what’s the point and complaining to the users of the site who are just trying to enjoy some chit chat? He’s like the current CB boyfriend (Cumberbatch the year before and Fassbender before that) and next year who knows who that’ll be. He’s also promoting 3 movies all at once so there’s a lot of stuff to discuss. I’m enjoying it and so are many users so let us have some fun 😛

      • Hannah says:

It’s also disturbing to call people haters if you are over 12. Let’s be mature ladies!

      • Fluff says:

I just hope we get one David Tennant article when Jessica Jones starts.

        *waves lone David Tennant flag*

      • icerose says:

me to I gnore most of the posts.I occasionally go into other posts (apart from Benny and Tommy out) of curiosity rarely comment I fail to understand how people can say it is a Hiddleston fan site when Kaiser admits that she is a Cumberbatch fan.
I do think this site has other favourites like Anjelina and Brad Pitt

    • Bay says:

It’s in fact nasty somebody is making you click news of actors you do not like. Please, do tell me who is making click links against your will. Tell meeeee….

    • seesittellsit says:

      +1,000 – IKR?!!!!1

    • Madly says:

I think it is overkill too. That just happens at the end of a promo tour, you want the person to just go away for a while. I imagine he is sick of being everywhere too.

      • jammypants says:

It’s only been a whole month of some Hiddles love on here (mid September to mid October). We got Cumberbatch everyday for a year and a half. THAT is overkill >.<

  2. TotallyBiased says:

How could you NOT mention the waltzing? Even for those of us who otherwise never watch the View, it was worth it for waltzing.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Joy Behar waited her entire life for that and will probably never recover.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

He waltzed on The View? Sorry, even THAT could not get me to watch The View….

      • Gingerly says:

He waltzed during the commercial break probably because someone asked him to do so. As there is a separate video clip you don’ t need to watch the show. Actually it is not bad.

        Here is the link.

        youtu.be/4bHGUGIvWwc

      • NUTBALLS says:

Thankfully, you can just watch his 4 minute clip, which is fine. They commented on his height, now nice he smelled and he talking about waltzing.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I think you might be able to find just the clip of him waltzing with a Twitterpated Joy Behar without the excited squeals of the others exclaiming about his height, scent, and accent, or how Whoopi really wants him back.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Yeah, I saw the waltz clip on twitter as well.

      • SusanneToo says:

But then you missed Whoopi pooh-poohing JLaw”s essay on pay inequality by saying that”s been going on for fifty years. Well then, Whoopi, it’s still a problem, so STFU! It wasn”t solved by women of your age or my age so maybe the young”uns need to take it on.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Please don’t ask me to watch that show…. Clip yes, show no.

Is it too late to order a mimosa. I am at work and might not make it through the day.

I waltzed a few nights ago with a tantric sex instructor btw. he had an interesting take on waltzing. Top that, me hearties…. 🙂

      • jammypants says:

I was bracing myself to cringe, but it really was not bad at all. It was very short so no time for the embarassing stuff. Tom did a good job on Today Show, The View, and The Daily Show.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MissJupitero, mimosa on the way but tantric guy must provide instructions on the veranda. Tom also had some things to say about waltzing, which managed to stun that yippy chipmunk Raven into silence.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Miss Jupitero, waltzing with a tantric sex instructor?? We need a post about that!

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Tantric dancing, I am not making this up. Has a lot to do with eye contact and connecting the heart chakras as you whirl about and arch back. Back in the mid-nineteenth century, this was a very scandalous dance due to the body contact. We followed it up with strawberries and chocolate. #tantricyogadude! #lifeisprettyawesome

      • icerose says:

He did a module in dancing at RADA -it was mentioned by the dancing choreographer in Return to Candleford and how much easier it made her job and i think the fight choreographer in Thor mentioned it as well and how it helped with his fight scenes

  3. KikiGee says:

Kudos; he’s not afraid to display that seriously receding hairline.
    Still kinda cute, tho.

  4. meme says:

very disappointed. very very disappointed. Charlie Hunnam apparently is barely in Crimson Peak; some of the reviews don’t even mention him! Del Toro WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!!!

    • seesittellsit says:

Well one thing he’s done, I must admit to my surprise after seeing the trailers, is get a 4-star review in The Guardian today . . . and no, Hunnam isn’t mentioned but Hiddles gets great reviews, including for his voice . . .

      • Mary-Alice says:

Guilermo is a visual master and the movie is a gem. Sure, Iam biased as a big Guilermo fan and a Casa Loma lover but still, Guilermo’s imagination gone beautifully dark albeit not as wild as in Pan’s Labyrinth. Huge mistake the movie was pulled off TIFF, we love Guilermo here(and he loves us :)) and it should have closed Midnight Madness.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

He is very much in Crimson Peak, never fear. You will be happy. 🙂

    • icerose says:

I read that Hunnam only took a small part because it was de Toro

  5. SusanneToo says:

Blue shirt, black jeans – very nice look. And I loved the waltzing.

  6. Lk says:

Damn it, Tommy. I think i can see your poki stick there.

  7. Silantro says:

I look at I’m, I always see Loki. Enjoyed Loki…but still.

  8. Becky says:

I wonder if he reads this site lol

  9. NUTBALLS says:

The Times Talk this week was the best. Followed by the Daily Show, where he charmed Trevor Noah. Hell, he charmed The View ladies too.

    http://www.cc.com/full-episodes/hhmu4e/the-daily-show-with-trevor-noah-october-14–2015—tom-hiddleston-season-21-ep-21011

Tom’s bit starts at the 15:00 mark.

    • neutral says:

      Not available at my location

      • NUTBALLS says:

We have the same issue with BBC videos, but once I added the Hola Unblocker extension and told it I was in the UK, I was able to see it just fine.

      • morc says:

        @nutballs
        Hola spies on you

      • NUTBALLS says:

morc, I noticed something funny a few days later and took it off. So unless someone knows of a better extension, I’ll just use it when I need it and delete it afterwards.

      • Sixer says:

        Nutballs

        You’ll have to pay for a non-spying, secure unblocker/VPN.

Unblock-US is quite a good one.

ZenMate is free and better than Hola in terms of privacy/security, but you have to mess about with your Flash settings to make it so.

  10. koko says:

    Silly.
There’s room enough in this big ‘ole world for everyone.
    Moving on.

  11. Irene says:

Why the hell have there been so many Tom Hiddleston posts lately? They’re not even about anything, they’re like ‘King Dragonfly inhaled today’. Is his publicist paying for this boring ass coverage?

    • Lilacflowers says:

We dragonflies are seeking equal time with the Duggars and Kardashians

    • NUTBALLS says:

It’s called promotional tour and clicks. Anyone who inspires a lot of discussion (clicks) will get featured when they’re marketing their upcoming film. The flood will end this week as he starts filming a new movie in Hawaii next week.

    • MexicanMonkey says:

Well, he’s on a promotional tour, which means talking to a lot of different outlets to get to a wider audience (obviously the view and TDS don’t have the same audience)
On this site, every thread on Tom gets at least 100-200 comments, which is why they covers every single thing he does.

    • Vesta says:

I think “boring ass” very clearly refers to the Kardashians, not Tommy’s skillfully sculpted gluteus maximus. Irene, honey, are you sure you’re in the right thread?

    • Gingerly says:

A very simple answer: CLICK = MONEY. On any site in the entire universe.

If I really want some celebrities to disappear from this site, I will not click, much less commenting. That’s the only thing I can do. You cannot silence or kill the CB posters who want to chat about Hiddles.

    • SloaneY says:

Why do people click on and comment on things they’re not interested in? *scratches head*

    • Miss Jupitero says:

It is a bit much, I have to agree. Tom has run out of things to say, and I don’t think Crimson Peak is going to have overwhelming reviews.

But I need distraction, and if we all keep posting here, maybe we can drown out the Duggar threads and other horrors for just a little while.

I need just a little less reality today.

      • NUTBALLS says:

You need a tantric sex instructor to waltz you away from reality!

      • Ankhel says:

The reviews on CP are mostly solid. The Telegraph and the Guardian gave it five of six points. Some reviewers were unhappy because the script lacks originality though. I couldn’t care less, haunted house movies tend to be formulaic – you know what you’re getting. Ghosts, fantastic sets, beautiful people running around, a sordid backstory. I’m fine with that:-)

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I just saw it! I won’t post spoilers. I will only say I can see why some people who expect certain things are not going like it, but I am weird and I really, really loved it. I have more to say, but will shut up for now.

      • Lisa says:

It’s at 67 percent on RT right now, I think it’s going to settle around 65.

I think it’s bigger problem is budget. I’d guess the double the production cost times two for the total price tag with marketing applies here, and it’s being projected at just a 14-15 million opening. It needs to make 100+million plus to break even. Maybe it’ll it pick it up in the overseas market.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MissJupitero, seeing it tomorrow morning. Ty Burr of the Globe said it had some flaws but overall, he liked it a lot and I find I tend to agree with Ty so I’m looking forward to it. Wished I could have seen it tonight but was at NTLive Hamlet. And well, I wish I could have seen it tonight.

      • Dara says:

@Lisa, Legendary/Universal really did crack open the marketing piggy bank didn’t they? I lost track of how many times I had to avoid the television commercials this week. I am curious to see how it does worldwide. I will say I was pleasantly surprised at just how many people were in the theater I was in tonight. It was nearly full.

I’m still trying to absorb it all – in a way it was exactly what I expected, and yet nothing like I expected. I will say that Jessica Chastain scared the living sh*t out me – any reviewer that panned her performance is a blithering idiot.

p.s. one of the trailers was for a movie called “The Boy” – that thing looks creepy as hell, and since I’m generally a wuss when it comes to scary movies, I will be avoiding it at all cost.

      • icerose says:

a good Guardian Review and generally ok

      • icerose says:

Times Talk interview had some interesting information and he did it off the cuff because de Toro could not make it. Look at his hand when one audience member asks him how he deals with his black moments or something like that-a great bit of body language although I did feel the question was a bit intrusive

      • Miss Jupitero says:

It has many, many serious plot holes, but I think you have to accept that this is that kind of movie. Some people are not going to do that, and I get it.

Just let yourself soak in the mood and the setting, relish the emotion, and accept that it has all the logic of a weird dream. My only complaint is that if it is going to be like this, then I don’t think it went far enough.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I saw it in IMAX last night and agree that while it’s not a perfect movie plot-wise, the production was exquisite. Chastain was scary as hell and was the standout performance.

We may be thinking of different things, but would agree with Miss Jupitero that GdT could have pushed the boundaries and gotten wierder. I would have liked more character development for Thomas and Lucille as well.

      • Lisa says:

Definitely, Dara. Lot of money went into marketing here, that’s why I think they need to cross at least $200 million for the studio to be happy, $100 mill to avoid bombing.

    • Bay says:

The funniest is that your click cemented the notion there’s actual general interest in this dude, so more “King Dragonfly inhaled today” posts should follow suit either way. So, as a fan, thanks for that! 😀

  12. NUTBALLS says:

So how many of you saw the pictures from the NY premier last night? Tom and Jessica looked cozier than ever. There were some really sweet snaps of the two of them. Too bad she’s seeing someone and refuses to date actors, ’cause damn those two make a fine looking couple.

    • Lilacflowers says:

There is another thread covering the premier and The Daily Show. Kaiser asked us not to thread jack that thread for this one’s stories and vice versa.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I didn’t see the other post until after I posted here. It’s buried on page two. They should have been combined since i don’t expect two TH posts by 8am.

    • Die Zicke says:

… Are we sure there’s nothing going on between them? I mean, they seem more like a couple than he and Lizzie Olsen did. Like THEO seemed friendly, but him and Chastain are very flirty.

  13. Gingerly says:

I laughed when Mia said she would play Bond and Tom quickly followed “MW Llcensed to Kill.” They look frindly and comfortable in that show.

    • Dara says:

I enjoyed that interview – it was over far too quickly, as were most of the US press Mr. H has done in the last few days. Mia was cute.

  14. Phoebe says:

As a recovered Cumberbitch, what I learned is to not affiliate with a fandom that gives itself a name.

Having said that, those hardcore Bitches will rip your eyes right off your face if you say a word against the man or his “blushing bride” so I would put my money on them in a fight.

    • jammypants says:

      lol!!

    • Dara says:

@Phoebe – “I learned not to affiliate with a fandom that gives itself a name”… you have no idea how much I agree with that statement!

That trend needs to stop, now. It’s juvenile, bordering on infantile, and it belittles not only the people who say they are fans of something/someone but also the object of their affection. It’s the same when I hear people discuss a ‘fandom’. Please – as if clumping a group of vastly different people together because they share one comment interest is going to create some kind of unity. That’s an artifice I simply refuse to buy into.

Apply that behavior to an inanimate object, and you’ll see how silly it is. I enjoy Rocky Road ice cream, but I’m not in an ice cream fandom, and I’m definitely not a Rocky Roadster. I may encounter someone else who also enjoys chocolate ice cream filled with mini marshmallows and nuts, but if they are an a$$hole, I’m not about to overlook that fact simply because we share a common passion for a frozen confection.

I enjoy the Dragonfly comments here because I think they are tongue in cheek, and mock the named fandom trend, but if anyone ever suggests formally adopting that name, getting t-shirts made or having a convention I’m outta here!

Sorry – I went on a bit of rant, it’s been a long week. I’m seeing Crimson Peak in less than 12 hours so that should improve my mood greatly.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Ditto. As long as tongue remains firmly in cheek, Dragonflies can keep flying the flag here.

      • Ali says:

        @dara
Not all of them are tongue in cheek. Some of them are downright aggressive. Lately there are quite a few of them who become irritate if there are comments that aren’t positive.. Some of them are starting to behave like twiligthers. Bit of a shame really.

      • Dara says:

@Ali – I can’t speak for everyone, but I rather enjoy having a wealth of different opinions…as long as A) you have something interesting to say and B) phrase it in a way that isn’t just intended to rile folks up simply to watch them spin out of control with righteous indignation.

If someone comes to any comment section (not just a Hiddleston one) merely to say “ugh” or “gross” or “boring” then I’m going to think you are a troll or a simpleton and will promptly ignore you – most of the time. Others might engage, which is their prerogative, but sometimes I find that defensive reflex a bit pointless as well.

      • Ali says:

But it’s also people’s prerogative to find him boring or unattractive. This place is public gossip site.Henceforth you must expect that not everyone finds him interesting or indeed impossibly attractive.
It’s hardly different from anyone else. It doesn’t mean that said individual is a troll or a simpleton. It’s just an opnion and it shouldn’t be upsetting to you unless you are his family or manager.
The overexposure is probably the main reason there are nasty comments. Usually people get fed up when they are force fed someone, see kardashians, cumberbatch, garner/Affleck.

      • neutral says:

But Ali, nobody is being “force fed” at all. Don’t like, don’t click.

      • Dara says:

@Ali – I absolutely agree, and everyone is free to express any opinion, just as I am free to judge how that opinion is expressed.

I rarely get upset about anything here on CB, and I am certainly not upset now, but what I do find mildly irksome is when someone makes a strong, definitive statement without saying anything about why they feel that way. If you feel strongly enough about someone or something to take the time to comment, then – for me at least – I want to know why you feel that way. Who knows, if you state your case well enough you might just convince me you are right.

@neutral You’re missing the point. It’s a public site about celebrities. People will comment on what they like, they don’t have to like him. I see your point, naturally, why bother with someone you dislike. Unfortunately this is the nature of the gossip industry.

@dara of course, I just don’t understand why people make it personal, it’s not very civil. I was just called a “hater” up thread. Apparently to say he is overexposed makes me a “hater”.
Regardless the irony is I have contributed too by replying so I will bow out and wish you a nice day, enjoy the post. 😀

      • neutral says:

@ Ali I only replied in respect of you use of the phrase “force fed”. I don’t think I’m missing the point, my interpretation of “force fed” is that one doesn’t have a choice. One always has a choice as to whether to read an article or not.

      • Vesta says:

Tomorrow I’m going to McDonald’s, order a meal & eat it, and then give a lecture to the personnel & other customers how people are being force fed unpleasant tasting food and explain how McD ads are overexposed. This is the nature of free world. Or something. I’m confused. (Just KIDDING!! I’m going to Burger King. Also, sorry for undirect advertising.)

      • neutral says:

Vesta, I do have to question your taste! Burger King???????? I only ever went once and that was enough. 🙂

      • Vesta says:

@neutral, it isn’t the culinary heaven, I’ve just bad taste. Besides, kids should not eat junk food 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Vesta and Neutral, does Five Guys get no respect?

      • neutral says:

Never heard of Five Guys before. 🙂

      • jammypants says:

Personally, I don’t think he’s overexposed in the general sense, but on CB it might feel that way with the daily posts. I’ll be sad when his posts thin out because he is about to disappear into a jungle (literally). We’ll go back to Kardashian overload *sigh*.

And I’m part of the Smashburger crowd. Yum.

      • Vesta says:

Lilac, I’m Nordic, so I live mostly on herring. (No 5 guys here.)

      • NUTBALLS says:

Have to agree with Jammy… Smashburger beats Five Guys. Both are topped by Chipotle, though.

      • Miss M says:

“I enjoy the Dragonfly comments here because I think they are tongue in cheek, and mock the named fandom trend”

Finally someone understands the intention that those of us had when we created the dragonfly term. We simply got tired of being asked what it meant and many posts were written with the intent of describing the dragonflies as if we were the hiddlestoners. I think this was an attempt to attract the tumblr crowd. It was the time that i exited stage left and barely posted on any of the “hot” guys posts.

      • Hannah says:

I like his work. But he is overexposed on CB.

      • icerose says:

Ali I do not mind people saying they find him boring etc but some explanation or rationale does help because it just makes for a boring post. But in the end I can choose to by pass the comments which I some times do

    • EN says:

To be hones, phoebe, it doesn’t seem like you are fully recovered. You are still at anger stage.

      • Phoebe says:

I may seem angry, but it’s really just frustration about the whole thing- it became really divisive in Cumberbatchland. Anyone who said anything about him that wasn’t 100% positive was met with attacking, angry responses and name-calling. And I mean anyone; some searched for mentions of his name on Twitter and trolled comment sections of articles and attacked/challenged randoms who were not fans. People opened anonymous Twitter accounts so they could say what they wanted without being attached. UGLY. There were two extremes of course, but many people in the bell curve who just left because it stopped being a fun distraction. I’ll probably always be angry/bitter about it because it was fun until it wasn’t.

      • Dara says:

@Phoebe, +1 to everything you’ve said, and I really feel badly for the vast majority of Cumberbatch fans that wanted no part of that ugliness. I only briefly dipped my toe in Cumberbatchland before making a hasty retreat back to Hiddlestown, and it will make me very sad if this place ever goes down that road as well.

I find the Twitter thought-police especially disturbing. Some random soul recently discovered they lived in the same neighborhood as BC and tweeted as much – I too would be excited if I found myself living in the same neighborhood as a celeb. There was no mention AT ALL of any specific location, and you couldn’t even tell which area of London the tweeter was from, yet some BC fan took it upon themselves to “politely” suggest the tweet not only be removed but that person should consider deleting their entire account to maintain the great man’s “privacy”. Last I checked, London itself is a giant metropolis – and it’s not exactly a state secret that he lives somewhere within it. People like that really need to get a grip.

      • EN says:

        > Anyone who said anything about him that wasn’t 100% positive was met with attacking, angry responses and name-calling.

I think that happens in all fandoms, though some are more vicious than others that is why I say I am a fan but I am never a part of a fandom.
I experienced the same thing right here on CB when I said that Hiddleston’s movie choices were too risky and he needs to regroup and rethink his strategy.

Now I just don’t say anything because really, I don’t care enough about the subject to have to endure attacks for stating my opinion.
If people think he is doing great, fine, let them think that, It is not like my opinion matters anyway.

      • Dara says:

@EN, I agree he’s made some risky choices, and I think only time will tell if they were indeed too risky. I rather admire him for it, but do realize they could indeed come back to bite him if he’s aiming for a typical mainstream Hollywood career. I’m curious about why you think he’s already damaged his prospects when none of his recent projects are even in the theaters yet – am I missing something?

p.s. If you ever felt I was one of those attacking you, you have my apologies. I like a good debate, but hope I never make it personal.

      • Mary-Alice says:

Pff, he’s made some clearly stupid choices and I said it long ago, and I stand by my words, and I don’t care at all about any police or aunties busy to jump to his defense uninvited. It’s my opinion and of course I will say it.

      • Dara says:

@Mary-Alice, my question still stands – which choices and why were they clearly stupid? I’m not trying to be difficult, I honestly want to know. I find the whole nature of how someone crafts a lasting career as an actor really interesting, that’s the only reason I’m asking.

      • EN says:

@Dara, not to worry, I didn’t mean you.

As for risky choices – the Hank biopic and High Rise were very risky and it looks like they are going to be duds. Crimson Peak will probably fare better but is also fairly risky. Have to withhold judgment until we see more of it, though.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Of course, everyone has a right to voice her opinion but everyone should expect that others will have different opinions and will state those as well and it is really unnecessary to hurl labels at people like “police” and “nannies” just because they may have different opinions.

      • icerose says:

EN The script of ISTL got panned but Tom has received rave reviews from just about every critic so I doubt it will hurt him personally,.saw High Rise lasts week and really enjoyed it although not every one who saw it did.Tom was excellent and got very good reviews.
He seems to likes a mixture of block busters and innovative indie films which is also my experience. I admire him for the risks he takes.Next week I see Crimson Peak which is getting good reviews in the UK-especially Tom and Mia.
It is also very English for actors to mix your genre of films and media so it does not seem risky or strange to me -only time will tell where his career goes-personally I hope he continues down risky and innovative.

      • SusanneToo says:

I agree with all you said, i erose. I admire actors who mix it up, swapping off between mainstream fare and indies, working with new directors, new writers. For me at least, it keeps them from getting stale.

      • jammypants says:

@Lilac, ditto. Different opinions does not make people police or aunties.

I haven’t seen Crimson yet so can’t comment, but I thought his choices for ISTL and High Rise were brilliant. He’s shown he has range and that is important. I also like Fassbender but oh boy does he also make terrible choices. No one is criticising his career moves. Tom will do fine. These films probably won’t win Tom award recognition, but they will open doors for him. I thought he was wonderful in both ISTL and High Rise. His Laing and Hank were like night and day.

    • neutral says:

      wrong place.

      • KTE says:

High Rise is definitely not a dud! I loved it. It’ll be talked about for years to come. It’s definitely an acquired taste, though.

      • icerose says:

KTE I did to and even my daughter he knew nothing about Ballard etc thought it was great-I the way the women kept referring to him as Byronic

  15. Hannah says:

Why is this even a post? This is just pointless and stupid. Like something only 12 year olds on tumblr would be interested in.

    • MexicanMonkey says:

I don’t understand why the interviewer at the Times Talk (which is supposed to be a bit more serious than say, MTV) would ask such a ridiculous question.

      • Gingerly says:

I guess that as she did not have enough time to cover TH’s works – it seemed to me that she only checked his Times Talks Madrid, coming films, and short CV – she had to ask light questions. Or she might be familiar with Cumberbitches. It’s funny and somewhat sad that Vulture made an article from that silly question because there were quite interesting discussions in the interview. But again CLICK rules.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’m going to give her a pass. An hour beforehand, she was set to interview GDT, mostly focusing on her visit to his work space, which Tom has not seen. She had to scramble on short notice for Tom.

        Plus, I liked her shoes.

  16. Nanea says:

Let the Cumberbitches fight with the Hiddlestoners, while I stick to my One True Love© ® ™, The One aka Neo – Keanu!

  17. Monroe says:

Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review, with Tom tomorrow on @bbc5live at 2pm UK time.
    bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06gpy5r

  20. Gingerly says:

Tom will be on Kermode and Mayo’s film reviews (BBC 5 radio) 2 pm tomorrow. They usually upload interviews to youtube. They love both TH and del Toro, and Kermode liked HR. So it will be a serious and pleasant chat.

    • Allegra says:

I hope they skip all the embarrassing questions unlike this one from ETonline that asked about Bond(again) and his butt:
      youtube.com/watch?v=C8p23NfRrCc&sns=tw

      • NUTBALLS says:

I agree, but I giggled at his comment about showing his bootie was that his understanding is that if he’s keeping his pants on, he’s doing it wrong. That much he knows, ladies.

      • Dara says:

As inane as that question was, I really enjoyed his response to it. It’s probably not very often that Hiddlesbum gets surprised by a red-carpet question, and his rejoinder was classic Tom – and exact proof of why I’m still so smitten with him.

      • Vesta says:

With these type of golden answers, I’m all for some occasional inane questions.

    • icerose says:

it is basically a film review programme so no stupid questions

  21. Dara says:

There’s also another panel interview with the CP cast (and hopefully Guillermo), on Friday.
It’s for a site called AOL Build – http://www.aol.com/build/ in NY.

Audience tickets are sold-out, however it looks like they might stream the events live but only post snippets of video to view later. Since I will be unable to watch this sucker live, I’m putting it out there for others that may be able to view it. I can’t get any of their videos to play on any of the three browsers I have installed on my laptop, so I wish everyone luck.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I’m still waiting for someone to post up the Google Talk. You ladies who scour the internet, is anything available?

      • Dara says:

Other than the teaser they posted, nothing yet. I have an alert set up for their YouTube channel so I’ll know a nanosecond after it gets posted there.

      • MexicanMonkey says:

They said that the discussion of the movie was in depth so for fear of spoilers they will post it shortly after the movie is released.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Good, so we’ll see it next week perhaps, after some of us have gotten to see the film.

      • Dara says:

I’m also holding out hope for Charlie Rose, it seems like such a perfect fit.

  22. Queen says:

After watching all newest tom interviews, I have a feeling that he,s ashamed of his fangurls. Is it jyst me? Or does anyone else feel the same way

    • Lilacflowers says:

I suspect he wishes that people would just ask him about his work, which is why he is doing interviews in the first place. He did have some nice things to say during the Times Talk about how some had raised a substantial amount of money for UNICEF for his birthday.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I agree with Lilac. It’s gotten ridiculous how many journos are bringing up his fanbase or his naked butt in CP, when you know what he really wants to talk about is the film and his work in general. He doesn’t want to be known for having an invested fanbase, but for being a really good actor.

      • Queen says:

Tom is insanely intelligent. I wish him all the best and hope he gets an oscar one day. He also has an amazing sense of humor. He is absolutely fantastic

      • Lilacflowers says:

Or James Bond. And I put that one squarely on the BBC reporter who asked him that stupid question from the start and that’s the only question from her interview she released. His handling of it has been deft – every British actor of a certain age is going to be asked the question. That’s it.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I thought his answer to the ET journo about Bond was perfect:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8p23NfRrCc&sns=tw

Did you notice how she mispronounced Guillermo’s name?? You’d think being in LA, she’d know better.

      • Vesta says:

The same old Bond question is understandable, it’s such a famous role. If a reporter actually follows Tom’s career, even sporadically (like myself), he/she knows that Bond villain role would be much more potential for TH. (And I won’t be surprised if it happens someday.)

    • CJ says:

He’s promoting a Del Toro movie, is in the Oscar/Globe conversation for ISTL (even if he doesn’t get nominated everyone in town will get a screener of that movie and will see how good he is in it), he’ll be in the Emmy conversation for TNM and is about to start filming the lead in a new franchise, and all anyone wants to ask him about is the comic book character he played and hiddlestoners with hiddleboners. Any actor who wants to be taken seriously after working his way to this point would be frustrated by it.

  23. seesittellsit says:

I’m surprised the Cumberbitches are still around, frankly – he has gotten so damned boring – he and his wife are like tepid tea, he doesn’t look nearly as good as he used to, and despite Hamlet is rapidly becoming more celebrity than actor. Hiddles and Hardy are going to be well ahead of him after this year . . .

    • EN says:

He just got different fans, the boring ones likes me. Not everybody wants to live on the edge. Though I wouldn’t call myself a b*tch of anything, not in a thousand years.

    • SusanneToo says:

I just got home from seeing Hamlet(NTL). I wasn’t sure how I’d view it given all the hoo-hah of the past year, but I was caught up in it immediately. I thought he was excellent and pretty much looked like the old BC. It’s given me incentive to go see Black Mass, which I’d planned to skip. The accent shouldn’t bother me as it’s only cornpone Southern accents that enrage me.

      • Dara says:

Crap, I’d forgotten about Hamlet in all the Crimson Peak run-up. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been on the fence about whether “to see or not to see” – sorry I couldn’t resist. I may be out of luck as there probably won’t be an encore nearby. I might drive 60 miles in a driving rainstorm to see Coriolanus, but I won’t make that kind of effort for Cumby.

      • neutral says:

OT I got home from seeing Macbeth and was disappointed.

      • icerose says:

i saw it last night with a very mixed audience age wise.About a third of the audience were responding -but the rest barely laughed,
The biggest problem for me was casting him as a 25 year old student-every time they they said we are sending you back to college -I thought in your dreams-He has far to much gravities to pass himself off as a 25 yr old on student.Might have worked with a younger more baby faced actor.
However despite the low energy and some of the poor cast acting he was the best thing in it and it was very easy to follow if a little slow

      • SusanneToo says:

I’d love to see Coriolanus, but right now the closest is 500 miles away. If it makes it to 100 miles, at the U of Southern Miss, I’m there.

      • EN says:

I also saw Hamlet last night.
I have one big HUGE complaint – wtf was up with Horatio? That actor was CRIMINALLY bad . Horatio underpins several important scenes and it was a complete fail. Who is he, how did he get the part?

Overall, I loved it, though I agree that on big screen with close up you could see that BC is 40 and it 5-10 years too old to play Hamlet.
His interpretation was different from the regular broody Hamlet, and that was unexpected but it was still great. My favorite parts where the parts with Ophelia, Gertrude and the whole toy soldier thing,

The actress playing Ophelia was criticized a lot, but I loved her interpretation, I think she was great, very strong.
All the female actors were great. I also loved the black lady playing a travelling stage actor.

Also, the stage set and director’s choices were great. turner got a lot of criticism, but I loved her work.

      • EN says:

        > I’d love to see Coriolanus, but right now the closest is 500 miles away.

Apparently it is going to be broadcast in February again. They was an advert for it before Hamlet last night.
I am not sure why, but a several in the audience giggled at the sight of Hiddleston. At first I thought, I must’ve imagined it, it didn’t look funny.
Then again, there was a close up of him and again giggles – so, no I didn’t imagine it.
I wouldn’t rive 50 miles for anyone. I might go and see Corialanus in February to be able to judge for myself, it is 3 miles from my house. But I wasn’t impressed with the parts I saw, there was no stage presence from anyone.
“Mice and Men” with Franko looked much better.

      • neutral says:

EN – if you don’t like Coriolanus then there is no hope for you.

      • jammypants says:

@EN, the giggling might be due to fangirling, not necessarily the clips being humorous.

I’m one of the few people who wasn’t keen on Coriolanus. Everyone should judge for themselves, but I didn’t like the production very much.

      • J says:

i loved hamlet too, but yeah icerose he was killing it but then there was like horatio who was just bad. i went with 5 people, 3 of who never saw/read hamlet or really know shakespeare at all, and i thought it was cool that they could follow it & it held their interest

i actually didnt even think about ages tbh but my aunt got her 1st degree at 50 😀

im sure hiddleston is great in Coriolanus, seemed so from the clips imo, i just don’t like that particular play. it never comes by me either for some reason. we got frankenstein and hamlet and mice and men but no coriolanus. gonna see Crimson peak tho

      • icerose says:

The audience i was with had a mixed response 2/3 sat in silence whilst the rest laughed at the funny bits-i would not watch it again but Bunny was the best thing in it.

      • J says:

my audience was pretty diverse but gave really good responses. the ratings on fandango are super positive so far

i would watch again tho. im glad they took risks tbqh, i was worried it would be hamlet by rote which i have zero interest in at this point

  24. MND says:

These guys are like clones of each other, so it’s no wonder their fans are going to fight. They’re like warring factions of a religion.

  25. Ivo says:

    He is so likable ❤

  26. MI6 says:

I find all of this fighting rather ironic, given the nature of the article. Just sayin.

  27. neutral says:

Right, having caught up with the posts, and not having the patience to post these in the right “reply” places I’ll do a collective one.

First of all regarding the questions about his fans: given that Luke is following him round on this press tour, why doesn’t he give a list of no nos to the interviewers – like no mention of hiddlestoners/boners this time, stick to the work? That is what we are here to promote. And definitely no hugs with the audience!

Regarding his choices: how do we know how many choices he has had? He may not have been offered many parts, we don’t know. And I actually think he has done some brave film making. Whatever happens to these three films, the general consensus is that Tom has done some outstanding work. Can’t be all bad for him then.

  28. neutral says:

For those complaining of being over-Hiddled, apparently production on the monkey movie begins on Monday.

  29. YupYepYam says:

Too easy. I prefer to ‘fight’ with Fassy or Hardy fans. Lol.
