Tom Hiddleston flying out for ‘Kong’ on Sunday, so no more Tom for a while

FFN_CrimsonPeakRC_CHP_101415_51879473

You know what I just noticed? Tom Hiddleston’s orange makeup problem got a lot better during his promotional tours for the past month. There were a few moments where he was the same old Orange Hiddles, but someone must have told him to either use a paler shade of makeup or to simply go without, because he has been looking better. Anyway, I know some of you are tired of the Hiddles stories. Just know that Tom is headed off to film Kong: Skull Island this weekend and we probably won’t have any new candid photos of him for months and months. Tom spoke to Variety about Skull Island and what they’re going to do to bring back Kong.

“Kong: Skull Island,” an origin story about cinema’s most famous ape, will offer a fresh take on a familiar tale, star Tom Hiddleston promised. For one thing, the original King Kong film’s period setting has been scrapped.

“It’s not set in the ’30s,” said Hiddleston at Wednesday’s premiere of “Crimson Peak.” “There’s no movie director with a map. There’s no out-of-work actress down on her luck. All of that stuff is respected, we’re just trying to do something new with the myth because Kong is an icon of movies. I think he’s someone people want to see again.”

He is particularly impressed by director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ (“Kings of Summer”) vision for the picture, saying he has “come up with the most incredible, deeply imaginative context for [King Kong] to exist in.”

“Kong: Skull Island” co-stars Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. It hits theaters in 2017. The hope is that this film will lead into a monster mashup, with a “Godzilla vs King Kong” movie due in 2020. Hiddleston didn’t spill about whether or not the film would unfold in the 1970s as some news outlets have reported, but he did say he was flying to the set on Sunday to begin shooting.

“I’m excited to play an adventurer and a heroic protagonist,” said Hiddleston. “I’ve been excavating some dark material and it’s time to lighten up a bit.”

[From Variety]

See… he’s flying out on Sunday. And this will probably be an epic jungle shoot too, like the second coming of Apocalypse Now. We won’t be seeing him for months! So enjoy this, Dragonflies. The Hiddlesdrought 2.0 will be upon us.

Meanwhile, Tom was confirmed this week for Thor: Ragnarok. He’s been saying in all of his interviews that he hasn’t spoken to anyone at Marvel for two years, but it seems like his agent has spoken to someone at Marvel. Tom is coming back as Loki, and it seems that Mark Ruffalo will be doing his Hulk thing for Ragnarok too.

@Lilacflowers, where you at girl?! Your man is about to leave us!

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’m here. Just for a few minutes, heading out to see Crimson Peak soon.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Your are going to like Hiddlesbum.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Well, that goes without saying. And I told my friend she had better like it too because I sat through Hamlet last night for her. (good, not great Hamlet performance. Overwrought at times. Some of the production stuff I could have done without. And I prefer my Hamlet in sequence as written, thank you, although several people around us didn’t notice the changes.)

      • NUTBALLS says:

Yes, I concur it was a glorious Hiddlebum. Best seen in IMAX.

      • Tiffany says:

I am going this evening. That’s right Tom, I am paying full admission to see you.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

The camera lingers on it appropriately. You will be happy.

    • vauvert says:

She is probably helping him pack:-) Lilacflowers, hope Tom gas all his shots up to date! Here is a care package with insect spray, sunscreen, some lightweight silk pj’s and a Shea butter lip balm…

    • Lisa says:

      I would SO do him!!!

  2. A.Key says:

    YES FOR RAGNAROK!!!!!!

    I’ve missed Loki.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

Me too, but I could really do without Hulk. After AoU I can’t stand him (or my previous fave Natasha).

  3. I hate Hiddlesdrought. I like Tompocalypse.
I do not care if he’s orange. Gives an excuse to suggest a shower. Wet Hiddleston is a gift from God.

  4. Lilacflowers says:

We have been preparing for the drought. I suspect there will still be several print articles appearing in the next few weeks to promote ISTL but no more Tom at festivals and such.

    But tonight – Colbert!

And the veranda and meadow are set up to party all weekend as a Bon Voyage.

Now, I’m still packing for our jungle excursion. Do you think a pith helmet will stand out too much when we’re filming in Atlanta? Or should I just send it on to Hawaii?

  5. kai says:

    Where are they filming?

  6. Gingerly says:

According to the director it will be 4 month shooting. I cannot imagine what his skin will look like after that shoot. Please wear sunscreen. He will certainly enjoy running with monkeys and other monsters.

  7. Catherine says:

He’s not orange as he has a different groomer/stylist in the US (think it was mentioned on a previous thread) instead of that Amanda women who wants to turn him onto an oompah loompah.

  8. silken_floss says:

He has been looking so lovely ans well rested as of late. I think he’s been getting lots of sleep and sex. Especially the sex.. rawr!!

  9. p'enny says:

i dont get to see Crimson Peak till next Wednesday, please no spoilers just loads of descriptions of Hiddlesbum is fine, super fine.

in the meantime, the plane is ready stocked thanks to Colin Firth, Sean Bean has been transferred into the plane’s undercarriage and Mark Strong is walking around with a pilot’s Captain uniform, looking especially gay, but very very attractive.

Tom is tied up with his Alexander McQueen ties in the first class cabin upstairs, please form an orderly queue. 🙂

    Martini’s all round.

    • antipodean says:

Does Sean Bean die in this one? Also I assume you mean that Mark Strong is full of joyous joie de vivre when you refer to him as looking gay, and not that he actually gets on the other bus? I only ask because I like to think I would have the smallest chance of catching his eye. Could I place an order for an orange juice and vodka drink, I’m not very keen on Martinis. do you think Colin would find that appropriate?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Colin can mix anything you would like and we’ll have Mark deliver it

      • P'enny says:

No he’s not going to die in this one, just locked up until Lilscflowers deems necessary to release him, two years later he is still in the boot, however he is getting w change of scenario via our super plane.

The Captain’s uniform is 1970’s style with a big brimmed hat and huge brass wings….he looks like an extra from Pan Am. however, he carries it off very well indeed.

Colin doesn’t make vodka and orange, I’m afraid only 70’s weird alcoholic cocktails – however he is in enterprising mood and has called a refuelling jet to meet us on the way to jungle and refil the fridge worth modern mixers.

      • Lilacflowers says:

P’enny, orange juice and vodka was called a “screwdriver” in the 70s so it’s allowable

      • antipodean says:

Lilacflowers, you are exactly right, that is what that particular concoction was called in the 70s. I know, I was there, and that’s what I used to quaff in large amounts. My reference to Colin approving was actually in regard to the name of said libation which I was far too ladylike to mention. You got it in one. A gold star for you today!

      • P'enny says:

really? well ok, but only if we’re allowed to add a paper umbrella

      • antipodean says:

That sounds jolly festive, but Tom may regard it as a bridge too far. Watch him closely for any disapproving looks, I will be too busy getting plastered, and the umbrella may end up behind my ear.

  10. Catherine says:

Tom was interviewed for The Film Programme on BBC R4 (may need iplayer):
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06gwcp9

    • Gingerly says:

I liked the show as well as Mayo’s interview with him. I have an impression that he sounds the best in BBC radio shows. Maybe he feels more comfortable there or maybe they have good microphones? It is funny that Wheatley reminds Tom of UK though I can see the reasons.

  11. Dara says:

Counting down to Hiddlesdrought (quiet sob) in 3…2…1…

But in the meantime, the Crimson Peak promo juggernaut keeps rolling along. Tom and Jess on Huffpost Live – at some point today – I’ve seen two different times. Sadly I will miss both, someone take notes and tell me if they say anything new.

    http://live.huffingtonpost.com/r/segment/jessica-chastain-tom-hiddleston-crimson-peak-interview/56156d3c5a743c02bd000288

I’m still clinging desperately to the hope of Tom and group (or just Tom) appearing on the Charlie Rose show – the US appearances (aside from Times Talk) have been stunningly short and I think even Colbert tonight might be as well. Maybe it works like Bloody Mary, if you type it three times on a computer it magically happens…Charlie Rose, Charlie Rose, Charlie Rose.

  12. browniecakes says:

If he doesn’t give ISTL a big push, who will?

    • browniecakes says:

Good read by Crowell in Rolling Stone.

      • icerose says:

ISTL has been delayed until March 21 as it did not create enough buzz-so Tom will no longer even be in oscar contention.Crimson peak got 5/6 reviews from Telegraph,Kermode and Guardian reviews all reviewers i respect-i have given up on Variety-re seems to miss the point of everything-especially High Rise-maybe he is too mainstream

      • icerose says:

it was brilliant piece of writing by Holly and I felt I understood him a bit more after reading it.Sir Lonesome was an intriguing nickname

    • neutral says:

Will be interesting to see how that works out with his filming schedule.

    • Mia4s says:

It’s been bumped out of the Oscar race to March because reviews were crap. No awards campaigning (or of any kind).

      • neutral says:

        blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/tom-hiddleston-elizabeth-olsen-go-country-in-batch-of-new-pics-for-i-saw-the-light-film-pushed-to-2016-20151016

Do you think Abraham is going to do some re-editing?

      • Mia4s says:

“Do you think Abraham is going to do some re-editing?”

No. It’s just a bad movie, not a franchise that needs saving. It’s an independent so it’s also doubtful anyone will bother investing the extra money needed even for that. It was an attempt at an awards movie that failed so it will get a small release then off to home video. Happens a fair bit actually.

      • jammypants says:

        I’m not surprised :/

      • P'enny says:

its also been bumped cause Tom can’t promote it properly.

      • NUTBALLS says:

There was plenty of detailed criticism of the script and the direction. I would expect Mark will do some tweaking between now and March.

      • browniecakes says:

Is there enough material to re-edit? Sounds like it was a real short shoot. And as Mia4s said there may not be the funds. But why put out a movie that will be panned if you don’t HAVE to.

  13. neutral says:

Re Tom and the orange, there are stills from the Night Manager where he has just got out of a swimming pool and pushes his hair back so it is like in ISTL and the line around where his hairline was is still in evidence and that is on set. Whilst I’m not saying don’t lay off the bronzer I think some of it is down to pigmentation.

  14. Allegra says:

Chelsea Crowell wrote a nice article about Tom and HW:
    rollingstone.com/movies/features/becoming-hank-how-tom-hiddleston-transformed-into-a-country-music-icon-20151016

    • P'enny says:

This article is amazingly interesting, I love how Rodney calls Tom, Sir
Lonesome Lot. Rodney is a sharp cookie and the two had a big rapport, and
Chelsea’s insight, trying to reach his darker side and failing till the very end was brilliant! One of the best articles on ?Tom.

      • neutral says:

Get the impression that Tom let her know only as much about himself as he wanted her to know. As we are already aware, he likes to keep his private life private.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Yep, even after six weeks with someone who is not a fangirl and she still felt like she didn’t really know him. That’s exactly what I would have expected. I seriously doubt many people know him well. He seems very guarded. I recall him saying he kept his cards close to the chest at school so that even his mates couldn’t really read him.

Chelsea’s a good writer and I enjoyed the new bits we learned from this article. I hope it fares better at the box office with the delayed release.

      • Gingerly says:

        Loved the nick.

      • jammypants says:

Well, maybe he is guarded because he knows she is doing a press piece on him 😛 I’m sure his nearest and dearest see the real him.

    • Lilacflowers says:

      That’s a very nice article.

  15. neutral says:

Bother, you beat me to it Allegra.

  16. MexicanMonkey says:

Literally Just got back from Crimson Peak and although I am a little biased for being a huge fan of GDT but I still LOVED it! It is violent, disturbing and creepy as hell. But don’t expect a horror movie, there were a few jump scares here and there, but the most terrifying part of the whole thing was the Sharpes, hats off to both Tom and Jessica!
Mia was also spectacular as Edith. The most disappointing cast member for me was CH, I know Del Toro loves him but my God, he was so stiff, it felt like he was left in the dust a bit.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

I was disappointed in the ghosts myself. They seemed almost completely extraneous.

      • MexicanMonkey says:

I hated the ghosts, I understand how they helped movie the story along, particularly in the last scene. But they looked so cartoonish! And that’s shocking from GDT, I mean, pale man still gives me the creeps.

    • SusanneToo says:

A spoiler if you haven’t seen it yet ****

I made the 10 AM show and loved it also. Very well done IMO. All the players were great and I liked that, unlike the damsel in distress movies of my childhood, Mia saved herself instead of waiting for rescue. I can see why Jessica wanted to swap parts – she was terrific as Lucille. And Tom was IMO more suited to the role than BC.

    • koko says:

Bummer was looking forward to the “horror” part.
Still going with anticipation for the acting, sets and costumes.

    • Uber says:

SPOILER ALERT** I’m getting to the stage where plot is overrated (too many films rely on random plot twists to move the movie along) and visuals, style, and acting take centre stage. I agree Jessica stole the show and she was soooo fabulous as the crazy sister (her accent was a bit weak though; accents aren’t her strong point). Tom was perfect as the tormented brother. The ghosts were almost over the top but Mia’s hair and outfits more than made up for it. Loved it. G Del Toro balanced the film out with a few light moments at the beginning. You barely noticed how quickly the early set-up scenes were paced. I loved Charlie in this as well. He does the kind, good guy well (see pacific rim). And I’m glad Cumberbatch and Stone dropped out; they’re both okay actors but Tom and Mia have the looks for the period.

The only thing left to ask is, where the F was Mia’s hand-shaped belt? I remember those photos that were released while they were filming. I wanted to see that in the movie.

      • TotallyBiased says:

When you go see it again, pay better attention to when she is NOT dressed fancy …during the Buffalo scenes. You will see if.

  17. neutral says:

A little something to keep you going:

    pbs.twimg.com/media/CRdHApfWoAEp38q.jpg

    • Velvet, Crushed says:

Thanks, @neutral, for a photo that seems to capture such lovely vibes of trust and affection. I really dislike reading comments on Wasikowska that assert her “wet mop” nature. Most Hollywood-related interviews seem to want to establish a type of hyperness and abusive humour as somehow normal, when in fact they have been been an indication of every psychopath I’ve ever met. If that photo makes the rounds, I want to think that smile will make people think twice before complaining about her.

  18. Lilacflowers says:

    !!!!!TINY NON-PLOT RELATED SPOILER!!!!!!

Nothing bad happens to the little dog

    SPOILER END

    • neutral says:

@Lilacflowers, on the other thread you said you didn’t know when TNM would be shown in your area. Roughly where are you, if you din’t mind me asking?

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Boston

      • neutral says:

Ah, thanks Lilac – hope it comes your way fairly soon after we get to see it. I’m hoping it will be as good as the BBC series of Tinker Tailor which I saw back in the day.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

      I had a somewhat different impression…..

      • TotallyBiased says:

        Miss Jupiter–
I am very much with you. We get so distracted by the OTT parts of CRIMSON PEAK, the subtle moments can sneak right past. I’ll be seeing it again for that very reason. And, without dropping a spoiler, I think there was some subtle evidence to think otherwise.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Well, we don’t see anything happen to the dog.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Pretty much true, so that’s good.

      • SusanneToo says:

        The tea?? Bad, bad Jessica.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

ON the other hand, someone decided to write about the dog:

        http://www.bustle.com/articles/117601-the-dog-in-crimson-peak-is-a-metaphor-for-edith-proving-that-you-can-be-beautiful

Though I still disagree that the dog’s fate is that certain.

      • Lilacflowers says:

That’s probably the most intelligent article to ever appear on Bustle.

But, this much is now evident. We all have to go back to see what happens to the dog.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I don’t know about seeing CP for plot minutae. It is riddled with plot holes and dropped narrative threads.

My theory: Lucille offs the dog, but at the last minute the director decided he did not want to alienate animal lovers, so the scene was edited so that it is left unresolved.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I mean seriously: the plot holes and inconsistencies are all over the map. Watching this movie with an eye of making sense of it all just doesn’t make sense. Just imagine it is a weird dream with great costumes, props, and a nice satisfying moment of Hiddlesbum (I think he went to the spa to have his bum exfoliated for that scene) and let it wash over you.

      • DahliaDee says:

        @Miss Jupitero
I agree with you, it was my impression that Lucille broke its neck. One of the most nonsensical things was “Mother”‘s age. That portrait was of a very old woman. And if the Sharpe children were 14 and 12 at the time of her death, imma do my best Gaby from The Man from U.NC.L.E. impression and go, “so she gave birth to him at 65?”

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Oh god, we could make a running list of inconsistencies, dropped plotlines, plot holes, and things that were unintentionally silly and be here all day. I thought the same about mother’s portrait– she would have been in her forties at her death.

What about the wheelchair? First she is injured enough to need it to get around, but one scene later she is able to run all over the house. That broken leg did not get in the way of some Victorian parkour.

    • SusanneToo says:

      That’s my #1 requirement for a movie – DON’T HURT THE DOG!!
But where did it go at the end? Stay in the crumbling mansion alone? That’s been worrying me for four hours now.

    • Elizabeth says:

Hate to be the bearer of evil tidings, but it did, actually. They just didn’t show any details.

  19. Dara says:

Deadline is reporting that SPC has pushed ISTL to March 2016…

    • neutral says:

Have posted a link upthread to indiewire article.

Well the monkey moview will be filming until around February, so then at least Tom will presumably be available for promotion before disappearing to Asgard or further distant points.

    • Dt says:

I just read that as well? This is bad right?

      • M.A.F. says:

March is better than January /February.

      • neutral says:

Unless they are going to do some major re-editing?

      • Dt says:

Why is it better? sorry not being shitty, I just meant this is a really bad sign for the film? Isn’t it supposed to be shown this weekend somewhere? I saw on twitter people had tickets for something

      • Allegra says:

Here another article, like this reporter said Tom wll be just fine.
” Finally Hiddleston is a rising movie star and many women may want to see the movie because of his engaging, charismatic performance, a real feat from a British actor. That Hiddleston survives the movie at all is a testament to his charm and skill. ”
        blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/why-sony-pictures-classics-pulled-i-saw-the-light-from-awards-season-20151016

      • NUTBALLS says:

It’s better that ISTL come out in March when it won’t get lost in the sea of movies this Christmas.

I thought I read somewhere that Night Manager is being broadcast in the US that month. If that’s true, it could draw more people to the movie.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@DL, March is better than February. February is when they release badly written rom coms for Valentine’s Day and the studios dump bad films and do no PR. March is when business starts to pick up again.

      • TotallyBiased says:

At Variety they immediately went to the logic that Tom’s the big draw and he won’t be available to promote it. Since Miles Ahead isn’t exactly getting rave reviews either, don’t think they will be replacing IStL in this tough awards season competition with that.

      • DT says:

I see what you mean about good for business in March, I guess I was just still holding onto some hope that he might get an awards nod even though the film itself is shit. I feel really bad for him it sounds like he put everythin into this performance, even though he is still gettin praise it still can’t feel good when he was so excited about showing people the film.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I find it interesting that they decided to announce today that they are moving it just hours after releasing more stills from it. And they have known for months that he wasn’t going to be around to do promotion in November/December.

March is still not great and rarely gets awards notice (Grand Budapest Hotel being an exception) but it is better than February or direct to video. There’s a chance people will actually see it.

      • P'enny says:

        no, it makes sense.

      • NUTBALLS says:

It is a good move in light of the panning that it got at TIFF. It won’t have the competition from the bigger films and they have more time to build it up between now and then. I suspect it’ll do better with a March release and Tom will be available to promote it. They could put him on some smart shows like Charlie Rose or Fresh Air and generate additional interest in the film and do more promo within the country music market.

      • Gingerly says:

Not exactly good, but it makes sense. Maybe it’s a wise business decision. I don’t care about awards and I suspect at this stage both SPC and Tom are quite realistic about the award possibility too. If more people can see the film, it would be better, simply. SPC’s explanation sounds pretty detailed and specific. So I would like to think that they took pains to sell this film. Good luck.

    • Dara says:

I think that once SPC realized the film wasn’t good enough to make a serious Oscar run they changed strategy and decided to market it as a more mainstream release and go after box office first and awards second. After that decision was made, they realized their star had to be A) available for promotion work and B) in demand by the entertainment press. The Monkey Movie eliminates option A for a late 2015 release and all the promo stuff he’s been doing for Crimson Peak eliminates option B, he’s oversaturated in the marketplace.

Not a bad strategy from a business point of view, I hope it works for them. And the SPC guy isn’t wrong about Star Wars, I bet every film is having difficulty getting screens booked for late 2015.

      • EN says:

I actually think Tom should stay away from promoting that movie. Olsen needs to,do it.
The target audience is Americans, conservative Americans from the South.
The less of them realize a Brit is playing one of their icons, the better.
Or he has to give all the interviews with the southern twang and speech patterns, lol.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I wouldn’t be concerned about southerners not accepting him. He’ll win them over. Lizzy lacks the selling power that he has. Tom is key to promoting the film.

      • SusanneToo says:

@EN. We aren’t all cousin marryin’ crackers down here. Many of us know and like TH. When I heard, last year, that he would play HW, I said, “Perfect casting! He’s a dead ringer for Hank and he can learn the accent and singing.” Also, the Southerners you’re talking about wouldn’t know country music if it bit them on the ass going by the slick pap that is played on “country radio”. It’s the liberal crowd, like me, who supports alt country and reveres the old masters – Carters, Rodgers, Williams, et al – who will turn out for ISTL. Them and TH admirers, so, yes, he should do promo.

      • EN says:

@Susanne, maybe in Austin there are some liberal people but overall outside of college towns all of the South is very conservative and I don’t think anyone other than fan girls know who Hiddleston is. They know him as Loki, that is all.

      • SusanneToo says:

@EN. Don’t agree. There are quite a few of us libs right here in little, ol’ Mobile, Al with a nice alternative music scene. Of course, all the Trump loving, Obama hating yahoos don’t give a damn about TH, but they likewise don’t give a damn about Hank, Sr. either. They’d prefer the odious Hank, Jr. That said, it gets tiresome that a few posters always paint ALL Southerners as if we’re still living in the 1950s. I would never say that ALL Brits or ALL Canadians or ALL Bostonians, etc. conform to certain negative stereotypes because I know that’s not true and I’d appreciate the same courtesy. How about using some modifiers like “some” or “many” when dissing us? Thanks.

      • Dara says:

@EN, I think you are grossly overstating your case – do you live in the South and what do you mean by conservative? If you mean Republican, I might grant you that – if “conservative” is code for “close-minded bigots” then I’m going to reject your notion. I have friends in Nashville, Atlanta and outside Houston and none of them still believe the earth is flat. They, and their friends and neighbors, are more educated and well-traveled than I am.

For the sake of argument, let’s say you are on to something and “conservatives” won’t accept an Englishman. If they really are that conservative they for damn sure won’t be seeing a film with an R rating in the first place because of all the cussin’ and fornicatin’.

And why is it bad that the only thing the vast majority of the movie-going public knows about Tom is that he’s Loki- so what? They still know who he is, and they like him. With all his manners and charm (a bonus in the South), he is the best promotional weapon ISTL has – they’d be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn’t use him.

      • P'enny says:

Lizzie has made no effort of to attend the other film festivals, she puts fashion first these daYs. I don’t think she is 100% focused on acting.

Tom is proud of his performance, and running away from it because it’s edited badly is a mistake. His performance is good, he is rolling with it.

      • Dara says:

He’s in Nashville today doing press – with Rodney. One last stop before heading off for the Monkey Movie.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I’m not sure Lizzy’s presence would make much difference since it’s Hank’s movie.

I think she’s attending fashion shows because she’s unemployed, that’s all. With the delayed release, she has even less going on until Cap 3 promos start next year.

Dara, I saw a snap of him with a guitar during one of the interviews in Nashville.

      • Dara says:

The whole gang is in Nashville for the screening (can we still call it a premiere?) tonight. Lizzie’s there too, along with the Drifting Cowboys and the director.

@Nutty, I saw the guitar pic – and made another one of those involuntary noises that are becoming way too commonplace where Tom-related things are concerned. Part if me is glad for the upcoming Hiddlesdrought, I need to get my equilibrium back.

      • EN says:

@Dara, I live in Houston and I think I have a pretty good idea about how people think here.
It was an honest advice, not some kind of underhanded shade. They would love Olsen if she put her Southern belle act for the promotion.
If people choose to believe otherwise, that is fine. We’ll see for ourselves what happens in a few months and we’ll be able to discuss whether my thinking was right or wrong.

    • jammypants says:

Great interview. Love Tom’s support for representation of women and equality.

    • neutral says:

Great interview, and doesn’t Jessica like taking the mickey out of Tom?

    • NUTBALLS says:

I enjoyed this with one notable exception. It’s yet another example (among many) in which Tom allows or directs the spotlight on others both in his words and actions. The excitable puppy label he gets at times is more due to his uncontrollable enthusiasm in a particular situation than trying to hog the attention.

The only disappointment was calling attention to the Hiddlestoners… again. Poor guy has had this brought up in nearly every US interview. Jessica got nothing but “smart” questions and Tom gets Hiddlestoners thrown in his face. I hope this isn’t what we can expect as he becomes more well-known on this side of the pond.

      • KTE says:

It’s annoying as well because people take the Hiddlestoners thing way too seriously. I mean, all of those fandom names are basically in-jokes among very small groups of people until they get picke up by the media and become a thing. The number of people who would use the label seriously is probably really small.

      • jammypants says:

Haha it’s kind of funny because it’s usually women who get asked the brainless questions, but in this case Jessica gets asked career questions and Tom gets relegated to the internet bf questions.

      • Dara says:

Hah! Good point @jammy! After all, she has a couple of Oscar nominations under her belt and has never gone in for the eye-candy roles a lot of actresses have to take early on in their careers to pay the bills.

    • Gingerly says:

Loved it really. He was calm and witty, and kept focus on the movie. They are truly good friends and I can see why. For god’s sake, can we forget Hiddlestoner just for a moment? The guy has three movies plus a drama and would like to talk about them for hours if he has time but interviewers keep asking the silly question. Really it’s for their own interests.

      • Lilacflowers says:

That and “so, are you the next Bond?” and “what’s going to happen to Loki in the next Thor?” The first is a rote question that they’re asking every British male (seriously, Carey Mulligan is doing PR, ask her!) and the second, they all know he cannot answer even if he knew, which he doesn’t because Yost says he is still working on the script. Lazy journalism. There is just so much more they could be asking but they all ask the same tired questions.

  20. seesittellsit says:

I could use a break. His hair looks thicker, so do his eyebrows. I think he’s done something. Seeing CP either tonight or tomorrow. I dunno – a bum’s a bum, you know? I’m more interested in whether he can generate real erotic heat in the clinches with a woman onscreen. You can do that with or without display of bum: but if you can’t do that, display of bum won’t suffice, although I expect it will justify price of ticket once. I have a male friend who is my platonic “movie buddy” – we see a lot of films together when other parties refuse to go – he has categorically refused to see this with me because of the whole “Hiddleston thing”. My sister has also bugged out. I shall be alone with His Nibs. Better be worth it.

    • neutral says:

Perhaps he has just let the hair be more natural than in ISTL and left his eyebrows alone.

    • jammypants says:

Really? It still looks receded to me. Maybe his hair is strategically combed to look fuller.

    • Butterflies says:

It’s totally worth it. I saw it twice yesterday, once on IMAX. It’s beautiful. I tried to ignore story spoilers that were out there cause I wanted to be lead by the film experience, and I was totally enthralled in the story and the beauty of the film. The whole film is beautiful, Tom (omg TOM), Jessica, Mia’s clothes, the set. The house is beautifully decrepit. This is the kind of horror film that’s not terrorizing the audience the whole time but rather seducing and penetrating our psyche through our senses, brilliant. I enjoyed it despite the violent scenes (I closed my eyes).

As far as generating erotic heat with a woman onscreen. Yes – for me most certainly, Yes. I don’t want to make too much of it cause I don’t want to spoil or impact anyone’s experience of the film. So I’ll wait for more people to see it before I say more on the subject and CP scene. Maybe Kaiser will use this topic during Hiddlesdrought to discuss the film and Tom’s performance.
BTW I went and saw it by myself too. I wasn’t going to wait around for someone to be available or try to convince anybody to see a scary movie. I figured I’ll just see it again with anybody that wants to see it. And that offer still stands — I’m Los Angeles.

  21. Lilacflowers says:

I thought P’enny had burned all copies of the blue woven tie? Yet there it was tonight on Colbert. What happened?

  22. Sister Goldenhair says:

I wonder if now the Opry appearance will be postponed/rescheduled, since the release date for ISTL has been pushed to March 2016.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I wondered about that too. It would be awesome for him to show up with Rodney and do some songs on the radio show that Hank was on.

  23. wrinkled says:

There goes that Oscar nom. A mediocre to poor movie wasn’t going to sustain that kind of buzz.

    • chelsea says:

Plenty of actors have been nominated and even won for mediocre movies. It depends on the performance and the competition.

  24. Dara says:

Thank you Nutty!! I was afraid I’d never get to see it, I’m scurrying off now to watch it.

  25. neutral says:

Have really enjoyed some of the interviews with Tom, Mia and Jessica. They seem to get on really well.

  26. Sister Goldenhair says:

OK, apparently I’m not allowed to post a link, as my last comment disappeared – but it looks like despite the release delay, they’re still going ahead with the ISTL premiere in Nashville this evening. Which would explain the photos of Tom and Rodney that surfaced earlier.

    • KTE says:

Too late to cancel it, probably.

I’m hoping for a re-edit before the March release, but this version has played at so many festivals and received so many bad reviews that I’m not sure they’ll bother – the word is out, now.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Pretty much the full cast attended the Nashville premiere instead of just Tom and Elizabeth. He’s wearing blue. She’s dressed like a saloon girl in mourning.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Black, as usual. And not occasion appropriate. Girl needs a better stylist.

I loved that Tom played some Hank songs at the after party.

    • Dancinnancy says:

Tom was 10 min from me and I missed it?! Where did you see about the Opry?

    • Gingerly says:

It’s good to see him sitting with Rodney Crowell again.

  27. Uber says:

I thought he’d have little chemistry with Mia but he was soooooo wonderful in Crimson Peak. Vulnerable, a little dark and tormented, and conflicted and sad. So were Jessica, Mia, and Charlie. Dream cast – abso perfect; 10/10 – and the movie was a really well-done goth horror. Loved the outfits and colours.

    • Butterflies says:

Me too. Loved it. Saw it twice. He is beautiful in it. Jessica is lovely too even with her scars, and Mia’s clothes were tremendous. Why is it that Tom and Jessica look so ravishing in dark hair? It really brings out and defines their facial features especially their eyes.
I thought Tom and Jessica worked really well off each other too mostly because of the story and their characters. It was a very good decision to cast them together for this relationship. And this role was perfect for Tom. I don’t know how much of “substantial elements” Guillermo changed for Tom after Ben opted out, but Tom fits the role perfectly as though it was tailored just for him.

  30. Lisa says:

I knew the budget was an issue. CP’s box office dropped and is coming in well under expectations. *sigh*

    Hopefully it’ll kill overseas.

    • DahliaDee says:

      @Lisa,
When I saw it the theatre was half full. Now one might think that is a bad sign, but I saw the very first preview, 2 days before opening night, because I’d been waiting for it for 2 years, given that I loved everything about it, and neither rain, hail, or my friend bailing out on me would have stopped me from seeing it. I think it’ll do alright here (overseas). It’s the right season for it to do well.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I went to see it opening night, and was immensely cheered to see a long line as I approached the theatre– only to find out that the line was for the Jobs movie. CP was only a third filled. It was disheartening.

    • Butterflies says:

Crap. It really deserves a good turn out. It’s more than just your average horror movie. Its scale alone is impressive and worth the ticket price. Unfortunately many people expect transformers or crazy graphic action when they think of large scale graphic films. I hoped CP would be triumphant in showing the more psychological side of Guillermo’s visual talent.

  31. Gingerly says:

Aol Build was awesome. I loved the way the three interact and Tom’s mispronunciation was glorious. He seemed to be terribly tired and have difficulty in keeping his focus. I cannot blame him for that. It was a crazy schedule. He did his best to sell his project and I don’t think he did anything despicable or inappropriate. Now take a good, sound sleep and go to a jungle.

    • Anon222 says:

@Gingerly About the AOL talks, I agree. It’s a bit out of character of him to lose track of the conversation. He’s finally showing sign of being tired. Incredible energy to have gone thru this promo tour since TIFF 6 plus weeks ago for 3 different movies. He probably woke up everyone forgetting which city he’s in and which movie he’s promoting.

  32. EN says:

Is Crimson Peek truly a gothic romance or more of a scary fairy tale a la brother’s Grimm?
When people say “romance” it makes you think there is actually going to be a romance but in this case it seems the marriage is a way to get money and the story line reminds the Blue Beard fairy tale of Grimm.

    • Sister Goldenhair says:

@EN, you are not wrong about the Bluebeard aspect. Tom himself mentioned that tale as an inspiration for the CP story in an interview last year – which in my opinion was itself too much of a spoiler for anyone reasonably well versed in fairy/folktales (such as I am).

    • Chloe says:

SPOILER ALERT*** Well, Sharpe did fall in love with Mia’s character, so there was definitely a love story. Interesting, the Bluebeard point.

  33. neutral says:

I hope Tom gets on a plane and sleeps all the way to Hawaii.
