Prince Carl Philip & Princess Sofia release two new portraits: lovely?

carl sophia1

Since Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia are increasingly popular royal figures, I thought you guys might enjoy this. Yesterday, Carl Philip and Sofia announced that they are expecting their first child. Along with the announcement, they also released these two black-and-white portraits. Beautiful, right? And they feel authentic too. I love the body language – in both shots, Sophia has her hand on his stomach. Which is intimate, sexy and funny: traditionally, with “we’re expecting!” photos, the dude has his hand on the lady’s bump. The photos make it look like Carl Philip has a bump. Amazing.

Carl and Sofia released their announcement in their own words, not wanting some royal lackey to do it for them. They said: “We are so happy and excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. We are very much looking forward to it.” But the palace also released a statement, which was: “The birth is expected to take place in April of 2016. No changes in the schedule of The Prince Couple’s public engagements are planned during the fall of 2015.” Shocking! You mean Sofia isn’t going to need endless Mustique vacations while pregnant?

And in case you think that I’m the only one making comparisons between Sophia and The Wiglet One, just know that I end up reading a lot of the British papers’ royal coverage and there are many royalists in the UK drawing comparisons between the two women. And there’s a feeling of “wow, Sophia is really doing it so much better,” even among pro-Cambridge people.

So…he’s the preggo, right? I mean, her hand is on his stomach.😝

Mazel on the first kiddie! Will probably be a cutie!!

  2. Pri says:

Not gonna lie, but Carl looks really happy, like really happy.

  3. BooBooLaRue says:

    Lovely and in love.

    • Pip says:

      Yes.
Lovely Prince Couple – mature, responsible and respect for their position, people and role as SRF.

No whining /sickness and she may have travelled alone in early stage, to give Global Child speech.

  4. Mia V. says:

Her look on the 1st pic is “yep, I snatched this prince”.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

And his is like, “TOLD ya it would all work out!” Vindication must be sweet.

      • Allie says:

@Who are these people, While I hold no bad will towards either one of them, let’s not jump the gun. They haven’t even been married a year yet, so an “I told you so” isn’t something he should be thinking right now.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Well…I hope time treats them kindly.

  5. Lrm says:

They really have so much chemistry. It’s palpable. It also gives them charisma and allure as a couple. Love how into her he is. They seem effortless and it gives off a chic vibe. Reminds me of JFK Jr and Caroline Bissett as far as elegance but accessible. I’m not into royals at all but really enjoy posts about this couple. Like hee fashion sense thus far too.

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I really like them because they work hard, and because I’m shallow and they’re pretty. Can’t wait for baby clothes!

  7. Cali says:

She is so damn gorgeous and he is equally handsome, they look so happy ❤️ And her hand on his stomach is funny and cute, I love this couple!

  8. Who ARE these people? says:

One of the many nice things about this is that they look the same as they do in candids.

  9. kri says:

You know who they remind me of as a couple..Angelina & Brad. It’s there, it’s real. They are partners and in love. And they are happy to be happy and happy to show the world. That’s captivating. I’m in love envy.

  10. Astrid says:

    Awwwww….

  11. Cee says:

The Wiglet One! Thank you, Kaiser, thank you.
The SRF must be one of the most popular, even if the swedish press apparently do not like Madeleine at the moment.

Even though Sofia has a “past”, while dating CP she begun to do charity work, unlike Kate, who spent 10 years doing nothing usefult or of note that would help her in the LR. The main difference between these two young women is that one lacks substance and interests beyond “clothes, beauty and husband”. At least, that’s how it’s coming across.

  12. Fallon says:

Ok. I really like this couple. Please keep up the coverage!

  13. Sixer says:

There’s a bot aspect to the role of princess, isn’t there? And if they can break out of the bot aspect, I think they are doing well, even though I also think PRINCESSES SHOULD BE SENT TO THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY AND/OR THE PAGES OF FAIRY STORIES.

This one seems so much less bot-like than Katie Bucket. So, even though she is neither in a dustbin (and really, I only want the role in the dustbin, not actual people) nor a fairy story, I quite like her.

Or something. I’m a bit distracted. Too much w-w-w-work, what with my not being a princess an’ all.

  14. Neners says:

I adore them. The Swedish royal family is by far my favorite!

  15. Kate says:

Pretty couple, and any excuse is a good excuse to look at them. I didn’t realize royals releasing photos with baby announcements was a thing, though? As for the Kate Middleton comparisons, I don’t think it’s wrong at all to compare the work the two women do. William and Kate are severely derelict in their duties, and they’ve shown a complete contempt for the British Public with their insular, selfish behavior. It’s totally legitimate to come down on them hard for that. I just get irritated when people compare the two women on their looks, grooming habits and fashion. It’s sexist and boring. The Duchess of Cambridge just isn’t glamorous, and I don’t think she’ll ever be a fashion icon. Nor does she need to be if she would actually DO SOMETHING meaningful. One thing I don’t get, though, is the wiglet thing? Is that sad joke meant to be clever? If so, it’s a bit embarrassing for whoever actually thinks that’s a smart jab. I can’t think of any celebrity who doesn’t use hair extensions these days. But then again, I suppose that particular contempt was called for when they made up a fictional scar to explain away what was clearly the seam of a hair extension on Kate’s head at the In Kind Direct charity event a few years ago. That was one of the many poor PR choices in a long list of poor PR choices for the Cambridges.

    • LAK says:

Re: Kate’s wiglet/extensions…..it’s funny/amusing because the palace released an official statement about it where they attempted to deflect the notion that Kate’s hair wasn’t all her own.

call her lazy, vapid, work-shy etc etc and so forth, and she ignores you, but print an article pointing out her extensions and the palace issues a strongly worded statement about it within a couple of hours of the article going up.

    • bluhare says:

I guess you don’t read here much, Kate. We’ve been jabbing about the wiglet for ages. She denies she wears extensions/falls; we go looking for them and have some fun doing it.

  16. Delta Juliet says:

The thing is lazy people don’t change and half the time I think they have themselves convinced they aren’t lazy anyway. So it’s not like Waity is going to see this and think “Oh I should really step it up”.

  17. Pinky Rose says:

Sofia is fast becoming a favorite of the new consorts. She truly gets her role unlike others and seems totally in bliss. Hope she continues in this path.

    • Cee says:

I could be wrong, but it seems their marriage was nothing short of a miracle and her image had to be improved the moment they moved in together to ensure she would be elligible for marriage. CP had to ask permision from the King AND the government (example: the late Prince Johan Friso of Nassau asked permision to marry his wife and the government refused – she had been involved with someone shady – so he married her, lost his place in the line of succession and his title of Prince of the Netherlands).

CP Victoria and Daniel went though the same thing, except it was her father who had to be convinced.

  18. Shelby says:

They look very much in love. Nice =)

  19. TessD says:

We as women are better than putting these two against each other! Does anyone put Prince William against Prince Phil? No, no one does.

    • Pip says:

      …now that you mention –

we all agree limpet went to one of top university (Princess Sofia may not but is fabulous in her very new royal role and getting better). Willnot also went to the best (and Princess Maddie Chis) – is something wrong with these millions rich, ‘top’ universities, because the people they turn out in privilege global roles, seem very lacking – and service to the people (selfish/ only take take), just saying.

  20. Bea says:

@TESSD actually here in Sweden, people aren’t that impressed with dear Phil and do compare him to Harry… To Harrys advantage. Prince P, just like Princess Maddie have a reputation for being spoiled partyanimals without substance…

    • Tiffany says:

I have read about them in the past as well. I feel they are trying to collect the goodwill and go back to the partying, racecar ways. Philip’s not now or has never been a working royal and nothing is going to change that and he has found an equal in that mindset. Sophia had to do something to clean up her image after her and CP became public. Then there was the marriage, honeymoon and then him racing cars. I seem to be the only one who thought her visiting her hometown under the guise of a offical visit left a bad taste in my mouth. The upside ( or downside for their fans) is with Victoria expecting another child, that keeps him further away from the crown.

      • Sarah01 says:

Your comments actually got me thinking, if they become complacent I’ll stop taking an interest in them and totally be off any new royal couplings. youve got some valid points.

I never liked the Brits royalty they are too slimey.

  21. Laura says:

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia look so happy and in love! Nice pictures. They will be great parents, and their baby will be beautiful. They quietly show other Royals how it’s done! Please keep up coverage of the Swedish Royal Family.

  22. Sarah01 says:

I hope she has a great pregnancy and a healthy baby in April. Their kid is going to be gorgeous just like their cousins.

I’m not going to even entertain any posts on the British royals unless I really get riled up. The Swedish Royals know how to keep things elegant and down to earth.
