Gwyneth Paltrow in a cut-out Cushnie Et Ochs dress: smug or cute?

Here are some photos of a fit-looking Gwyneth Paltrow on the red carpet for the Environmental Media Awards. The dress is by Cushnie Et Ochs. It’s cute, but it seems designed to show off Gwyneth’s abs and the fact that she’s not wearing a bra (even Goop worried that her boobs were falling out of it). More on the bra stuff in a moment. I do like that Gwyneth didn’t do a center part with her hair but I don’t really care for how pale-orange she appears. Goop’s date was her mom, Blythe Danner.

Gwyneth deigned to walk the carpet and appear at this event because they gave her an award for being an environmental person in the media. The specific reason for the award was Gwyneth’s work on behalf of GMO labeling – she gave testimony before Congress about it and she used Goop.com to push for more GMO labeling.

While a lot of people believe in GMO labeling and there are a lot of activists on that front, I kind of think Gwyneth lacks some critical legitimacy on most health/diet/exercise/wellness issues. It’s not just the bra thing – where Goop published a story about how bras MIGHT cause cancer, a theory that was widely debunked many years ago – it’s that Gwyneth’s Goop.com has become a one-stop shop for whatever half-baked nonsense Gwyneth believes in this month. That’s what we’ve learned about Gwyneth from Goop: she pays fake doctors, gurus, frauds and bullsh-t “healers” to tell her what she wants to hear. What I’m saying is that this award probably should have gone to someone else.

PS… I will give her this: her skin is looking a lot better these days.

She must have gotten a peel or something… Her skin never looks this good. Either that or she is wearing a ton of makeup.

She looks very pretty and the color of the dress suits her but I don’t think that the style of the dress is very flattering, especially around the midsection.

I thought The same thing about her skin… It looks radiant. Her skin usually looks a little coarse.

    • Yoohoo says:

Her skin looks great. That dress is unfortunate. Front the cutouts up it doesn’t look like it fits well and the A-symmetrical is throwing me off. It looks like the top was accidentally pulled to the side.

    • the_blonde_one says:

I think she may have just drank some water. She usually looks as thirsty as she acts.

    • Twinkle says:

She definitely did something intense to her skin because it was a wrinkly mess a few weeks ago.

  2. Danielle says:

    She looks good here.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed. I’d say this is the best she’s looked in a long time.

      • mimif says:

She looks like she had some very subtle fillers done. She does look good.

Anyone have an ID on those earrings? I need them immediately.

      • Charlotte15 says:

@MIMIF I would say check Goop first and I’m not even being facetious! She really does seem to pimp out (sorry, WEAR) a lot of the stuff that she sells on her own site, just like Reese Witherspoon.

  3. Ana A. says:

    Blythe Danner looks absolutely fabulous.

    • mp says:

If you died Gwynnie’s hair the same color as her mom’s, I would think her mom was younger (by a lot).

  4. Jag says:

That dress is ill-designed and awful. She has a nice body, but that dress is not the way to show it off to its best.

Yes, her facial skin is looking significantly better these days; unfortunately, her chest skin is showing a lot of what appears to be sun damage and she might consider not highlighting it in such clothes. (Yes, I know a lot of women have sun damage on their chest, but there is makeup to hide such things and she’s paid to look good.)

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, I can’t believe people are liking that dress. It’s a mess, does nothing for her body at all and that color is terrible on her. Her skin looks good, though. (Face)

      • MrsBPitt says:

I agree….the dress looks like she was going to a Halloween party as a mummy, and forgot to finish her costume! Plus, she should wear color…she is too pale to wear white, it does nothing for her. On the other hand, I would die for her body, and her skin does looks awesome. And I like the fact that she brought her Mom with her!

  5. Nev says:

    She looks amazing. WERK Goop.

  6. astrid says:

I’m going to go with “smug”

  7. ImJustMe says:

I don’t care for the dress at all. It’s just such an awkward, random cut out and it appears to be pulling too much across the hips. The color looks nice with her complexion though.

  8. RH says:

I’m not q fan of hers anymore. However, the woman has a rockin body and can pull off most outfits. I like this one. Love the color on her.

  9. NGBoston says:

A huge NO to the Goopster on this dress.

Gwennie looks pretty damn good overall, but we would too if we had her money and all the personal “assistance” and help she receives.

She makes me want to lose my lunch. BARF

  10. Lara K says:

No to the dress. No to her deserving an award.
Just no to Goop in general.

  11. Nancy says:

Sorry to the Goop, but she’d look smug if she was dressed as Santa Claus. I don’t think she cares about what us commoners think though, she appears to be quite content with herself.

  12. lucy2 says:

Her non-center-part hair looks so much better.
That dress is a MESS. So random, awkward, and saggy.
For anything science related, she should be automatically disqualified for all the false nonsense she puts out there.

    • Esmom says:

Agree about the science part but I’m guessing she gets recognized not because the GMO industry people think she’s credible but because her celeb status might bring more attention to the cause.

  13. Barrett says:

    Dress is a fashion NO!

That is not working. Like a fashion school drop out designed it!

  14. Jayna says:

She looks great here. She looks good in the dress, but to really wear that dress to its full potential, though, she needs better posture. Nicole Kidman would work that dress with her amazing posture.

  15. Theodore says:

The color looks good on her, but I am a bit meh about the cut of the bust. She looks lovely here, she has a great body.

  16. Veronica says:

Not a fan of the dress, but she does look good in it. And I’m not sure Gwyneth can do anything without a touch of smug. 🙂

  17. JenniferJustice says:

Her skin looks better. Dress is a mess – just no. Environmental award – again, just no.

  18. Tiny Martian says:

That dress is just…..unflattering? I don’t like the way it is all rumpled up at the waist. And I can’t stand any dress with a cut out right over the woman’s diaphragm. I’ve never understood why anyone would choose to highlight this area of their body, it’s like having cutouts to show off your elbows!

  19. Whatever Gurl says:

She looks good but also maybe a bit desperate for attention?

  20. annaloo. says:

No. She’s celebrated for too much that – honestly – she doesn’t have merit for. As for the braless look, for how long have we complained about her saggy chest area? I remember her “goth” dress from the Oscars several years back, even then, we knew she had slouchy posture and the dress didn’t look its best bc of the wearer.

As for environmental rewards, I don’t share her positions on GMOs, especially in light of the role these foods will play in food production facing global population increases and how climate change is affecting crop productions (droughts, floods, etc) , plus the science I have seen so far has not backed a link that persuades me that they are as dangerous as some people think they are, but everyone is entitled to know and choose what they are eating.

  21. Hauschka says:

That dress is really bad, but she’s in great shape as usual. I prefer her mum though. She’ll never be likeable. Sure, she’s probably inspired people to eat better and avoid GMOs in general (trust me, 99% of the GMO industry is just about making more money, controlling small-time farmers, and making us dependent on specific seeds and products), but com’on, she’s got a greedy, consumerist fill-up-the-closet-with-crap-you-don’t-need agenda. By all means, enjoy shopping in moderation but the GOOP lifestyle is terrible in terms of its impact on the environment (and the hip pocket).

  22. E.M.Maxx says:

I dont understand the smug comment in the headline , pertaining to this particular dress…..
    She’s smug in everything
