Here are some photos of FKA Twigs at last night’s MOBO Awards, where she took home an award and performed two songs off of her latest EP. I’ve been listening to some of her new songs, and by far, my favorite is “Figure 8.” She performed that song and “In Time” last night. While I think she puts a lot of work into her live performances to make them visually stunning/interesting… I also think that you can really tell that her voice is really weak when she performs live.
While a lot of people are just covering Twigs’ performance and win – and that’s great! – at a gossip level, there was something interesting too. You see, over the past few months, there have been a lot of rumors about Twigs and Robert Pattinson and the state of their engagement. While they didn’t flat-out call off their engagement, they did push back their wedding, which was reportedly supposed to go down in August/September. Sparkles has also been hard at work on The Lost City of Z, which means he and Twigs barely have any time for each other. But Sparkles flew in to see Twigs last night! They didn’t walk the carpet together, but people are now saying that everything is fine.

Nonono, it was actually a double who attended the MOBOs, the real Pattinson was running through the secret tunnels he had built so he could visit his wife without being seen. Such is the power of their true unwashed hipster love.

I don’t like her, but that’s because someone told me something truly disturbing about her being on some kind of content-creating/marketing show on the internet. The details are a little fuzzy but basically it was something about interacting with fans as a version of marketing, and she’s one of several stars who “play” the part of one carefully chosen fan. Or something. I’m not to clear on it. What was so disturbing is the person they chose wants absolutely nothing to do with it but the people who are running the show refuse to replace her because it’s a big hit. Apparently, FKA is aware of that but doesn’t care, either because of the publicity it generates for her.

Don’t most celebs plan controlled fan interactions as a way of boosting their image and PR? I mean, that basically describes all fan events, autograph events, fan cons, etc.
Unless you meant celebs hire actors to pretend to be fans, and that Twigs is pretending to be a fan of someone else. Which doesn’t make a ton of sense.

So many people simply have a problem with her being black. There is nothing wrong with her at all. Not her art, not her interviews, not her music, not her personal life. People just can’t stand it when successful white men start dating black girls, and they will go through such lengths to justify their disapproval even if their arguments make no sense.
Yess, time to polish my SparkleTwigs badge. I love them! Especially her! Yeah, it was evident when she resumed live singing from dancing at the end of her performance. She doesn’t have the most incredible voice ever, but IMHO, being a singer isn’t necessarily about having a voice that will win a vocal competition. It’s about doing creative things with what you’ve got, and for me, what she does is compelling every time, standing up to repeated listens. She works with smart producers and is very clever in how she puts together her music and performances.
Robert looks really thin, no? He also looks like the spark of joy has returned to his life with those genuine-looking smiles, in spite of being super tired from all appearances. I hope he’s laying off the boozing and partying and is taking better care of himself (though that table piled full of booze in front of them suggests maybe not?)

I’m looking forward to seeing Rob and twigs at the Go Campaign Gala in LA on the 12th. It’s nice to see them enjoying themselves after a month long separation.
Right! It was also rumored that because he’s in a relationship with such an athletic woman, he was working out more. But no doubt the role is the main reason.

Yay for hopefully a less boozy Rob! I assumed they ordered all those for the table like the plebeian I am, unaccustomed to fancy awards shows. Seriously, he is looking less pasty and hungover than a couple of years ago, and in better shape too, which is great.

I find her schtick repetitive. I was mesmerized at first, but grew tired really quickly. Same sound, same moves, vogueing which is not that interesting to look at for long…and yeah, weak voice doesn’t help, Adele she’s not

A big turnoff for me. I find her really unattractive, but the interview she gave layed it all out– she is in it for the money.
Sure, everyone wants to make money but I need to suspend my disbelief to enjoy a performance and she burst my bubble right there. She wants to make bank, to support her descendants so they can all live a lavish lifestyle in perpetuity. Sheesh. So much for art. To her, it’s just a shtick.
Where are you getting that from? I think it’s the opposite – she is all about the creation and the artistry and her vision. When I think of schtick I think of Katy Perry with her left shark, or Taylor Swift’s girl squad where only the coolest need apply.
If twigs were only in it for the money she would probably be pursuing a much more mainstream/traditional pop star career, and not be so weird and avant guarde with her creative choices. She knows she doesn’t appeal to the masses, and she is totally fine with that. I agree she is very ambitious, but her ambition (imo) is to create the best art she can create, in the way she wants it to be. Some people will like it, some won’t, but it’s enough to build a nice career for herself.

I know she gets a lot of love here but I find her so boring, and her open mouth is really unattractive. I don’t give a fig about him, could never understand what women see in that sullen boy who looks like he doesn’t shower and who is rarely, if ever, dressed nicely. If they’re happy and a good match, good for them.

Hi Mimi! Imagine, a Kristen fan like yourself, finding fault with Rob and twigs…..LOL.
The first pic I saw was her leaning into him at the table. He is sitting in between her and her stepdad and mom, her family. If she had paid him extra attention when she won her award you would accuse her of attention- seeking with her famous boyfriend. In a fan pic today he has his hand on her back and the fan commented what a nice couple they are, laughing and normal and happy. They were papped again together tonight.

Gosh so boring to watch her. Robert looks so dirty now ever since he ended his relationship with K stew. I hardly ever see him cleaned up. Now that he’s with twigs..he has just become more weird….I blame that on her influence. She’s weird too. I’m not feeeling her music tho.

Damn Rob looks good at this event!! Fine, damn fine after filming for 3montgs straight. Twigs performance was a stunner. Loved it, Figure 8 & In Time are the best tracks on her latest release. I don’t think they ever planned on getting married in Aug/Sep – that rumor came from People Mag not them. Rob had always had a full fall schedule and so did twigs dropping an album and finishing her tour, why would they plan a wedding in the middle of that. I call false media info. Twigs lives in a falsetto and carries a strong but soft voice. I remember when people said the same about Janet Jackson. In person live though she’s pretty impressive. I find people really need to educate themselves on the difference between a mainstream artist and a indie artist. When people say things like she’s in it for the money as an indie artist – do you realize how ridiculous that statement is? Indie artists are in it for the music Bc it’s makes less money to be a mainstream artist and if she wanted only money she’d tour nonstop – that’s where you make money. But her brand deals: Google, Apple, etc that makes her money too. Comparing Adele (full vocal range & a electronic trip hop artist vocalist is like comparing Netflix to Comcast. Yes they provide entertainment but in two diff ways and fields of interest. It’s like saying Josephine Baker wasn’t talented enough Bc she doesn’t sing like Aretha Franklin. Lol MOBO was created bc like most alternative highly regarded entities – people of color weren’t being recognized in their field in UK – so this was formed.
