As many of you mentioned yesterday in our story on Matt Damon’s fake divorce on the cover of Star Magazine, it’s got to bother him so much that he’s getting tabloid attention. Damon has said multiple times that he’s not a tabloid or paparazzi target because he’s a boring family man who married a civilian. Then he made several missteps with his public image and helmed a fall blockbuster. Boom, tabloid cover.

Yesterday we covered Star’s online preview, with narrative alleging Damon’s marriage is falling apart because he’s been hanging out with drunk cheater Ben Affleck. Star had insider quotes claiming Damon’s wife Luciana is ‘jealous’ of his bromance or something. As they did last week in their Ben and Jen story, Star took it further in their print edition, adding details and quotes to make it sound believable. They did a good job! They even say that Affleck has been staying on Damon’s property, pissing off his wife. Nowhere in the story do they say that Matt and Luciana are close to divorcing, just that they’re fighting over Matt’s friendship with Ben.

Ben moved into a guesthouse behind Matt and Luciana
“Luciana didn’t want Ben there, but Matt refused to throw his friend out. Every evening, Matt would go out to the guesthouse to check on Ben, who was obviously very fragile at the time, and they’d end up having a few drinks and reminiscing. It drove Luciana crazy, because all of a sudden her husband was devoting all his spare time to Ben instead of to his family.”

Luciana worries Ben will influence Matt
“Ben acts like a frat boy around Matt, which she finds obnoxious. And she knows his history as a ladies’ man. She was worried his bad influence will rub off on Matt. Of course, when she complained, Matt refused to hear a bad word about Ben, and it caused some blowout fights. Luciana felt like her husband was shutting her out, and her trust in him started to plummet.”

Luciana is ‘insecure’
“Luciana won’t let Matt go anywhere alone; they’re always together. She even went with him on his press tour for The Martian. But the constant togetherness has put a lot of stress on them.”

“He doesn’t want the tensions in their marriage to impact the girls. That’s why he thought Luciana should stay home with them, instead of coming on his press tour. They fought about it. He expects her to have some trust in him at this point.”

Their vow renewal was Luciana’s idea
“Matt wasn’t enthusiastic about the vow renewal; he thought the big production of it all was tacky and reeked of desperation. But Luciana really wanted to do it, so he ended up giving in and paying for the whole thing – even though everyone knows vow renewals are the kiss of death for marriages.”

Star pointed out at the end of the story that Damon has put his Pacific Palisades mansion on the market and that this is a positive step for the couple. Can you imagine being rich enough to have a guest house, not to mention multiple guest houses? How much fun would it be to have your best friend stay in your guest house for a while? You could go out there, hang out with them, and then walk a few steps home afterwards. I can see how that would get annoying to your spouse, though, and Affleck has said as much about Luciana. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2012, Affleck admitted that he was over Damon’s house all the time since Damon moved down the street from him. He said “We see each other almost too often. I wonder if his wife is thinking, ‘Is he really going to come over every night?‘” We know that Affleck has been renting Brooke Shield’s house since his separation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was staying over Matt Damon’s guesthouse a lot too.

Star probably has it wrong about Damon’s relationship with his wife. She doesn’t seem like the jealous type and their relationship looks solid from the outside. They were just spotted running in London Wednesday. (See photos below.) Damon gushes about Luciana and says he doesn’t like to be apart from his family. I wonder if Damon will switch up his go-to comments about how he’s just a boring dad with a civilian wife. He needs to start complaining about how wrong the tabloids are and how he’s so misunderstood.
