Jessa Duggar & Ben Seewald have welcomed their first child, a boy

duggar3

It felt like Jessa Duggar-Seewald was pregnant forever. That’s probably because, like all Duggar women, she announced her pregnancy as soon as she got knocked up. It also felt like forever because the whole Duggar family imploded during Jessa’s pregnancy. Josh had to come out and admit that he was a child molester, then he had to admit that he was a porn addict and a cheater and go to fake-rehab. The Duggars had to do months of damage control, and for their efforts, Jessa and Jill are basically the only Duggars allowed back on television. And I’m sure the birth of Jessa and Ben Seewald’s first child will be featured heavily on an upcoming TLC special. All we know now is that she gave birth to a boy.

Jessa (Duggar) Seewald and husband Ben Seewald have a big milestone to celebrate: the birth of their first child. The former 19 Kids and Counting star and her husband welcomed a boy Thursday evening, a rep confirms to PEOPLE. Jessa, 23, and Ben, 20, shared the news of their pregnancy exclusively with PEOPLE in April.

“I think having this first year together to share our lives, just the two of us, has been special,” said Jessa before adding that the two are “definitely excited to be parents.”

Jessa celebrated her baby shower in October with a big, co-ed blowout attended by their families, including Jessa’s parents Jim Bob Duggar, 50, and Michelle Duggar, 49. The birth of the new baby will be a focal point in Counting On, TLC’s upcoming series of specials featuring Jessa and sister Jill’s lives now.

[From People]

Well… congrats. I guess. I’ll admit that I’m interested in hearing the name, but Jessa and Ben are probably saving the name and the birth details for next week’s People Magazine cover story, what do you want to bet? Jessa had a difficult pregnancy not because her health struggled (it did not) but because no one was paying attention to her. She was SO MAD that no one paid attention to her pregnancy and no one wanted to give her money and no one wanted to film her. It was like she didn’t even see the point in having a baby if she couldn’t be the center of attention and film everything for a reality show.

Lucky for that baby to have been born a boy. Such a lucky baby

Also, her eyes freak me out! She’s a scary one

    • whipmyhair says:

The tight smile, raised eyebrows and crazy eyes. The duggar photo standard.

They try so hard, but the crazy has to come out somehow.

    • Franca says:

No kid born in that crazy family is lucky, but yes, he’ll be much better off being a man.

      • manda says:

yeah, that’s pretty much what I was saying. I’m not the best at conveying a sarcastic tone. But yeah, I think in their horrible lifestyle (in my opinion it is horrible, maybe it’s over-simplifying) that it is much easier to be the man.

      • Franca says:

Oh, sorry, I didn’t get the sarcasm. Doesn’t come off well in prnt.

    • Elizabeth says:

Agreed. Hopefully, the family will only have boys going forward.

    • Pumpkin Pie says:

That’s the first thought that came to my mind when I read it’s a boy. But then, see how Josh turned out. And I bet there are more skeletons hidden the duggar closet.

  2. Nancy says:

I could write a novella on my negative feelings towards the Duggars (Josh, Michelle and Jim Bob)….but this lovely woman gave birth to her little boy……may he have good health and a happy life.

    • nora says:

Jessa has, more than any of the other girls, said some pretty terrible things. However, she was raised in a terrible environment and had a rough childhood (to put it lightly). I hope she can be happy but I doubt it. Thank God this child is a boy, not a girl.

      • Nancy says:

She was abused by her brother, her parents are squirrels. She has 18 sisters and brothers, who all speak in the same style, dress alike, school with each other, etc. She doesn’t know the meaning of independent thinking. They’re like the Stepford children. So yeah she is a freak like the rest of them, but as I said she just gave birth, so there is hope, and even she deserves a day not to be scorned, at least not by me.

      • Gwen says:

@Nancy, sorry can you explain what do you mean with “Squirrels” ? I only know that’s cute Animals…..:)

      • Nancy says:

        Gwen: “Nuts.”

    • Jackson says:

….and rule his females with kindness and benevolence. And not turn his future wife into a broodmare.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

This “lovely woman” is an uneducated, attention seeking twit who believes men are superior to women and a woman’s place is in the home making babies. She has extremely limited life experience, but spouts right wing nutball garbage as the “correct” way for everyone else to live as if she has the answers to the universe. She decries abortion rights while posing and pouting with guns. She happens to be pretty. That hardly makes her a lovely woman. She’s quite the opposite.

      • Ughhhhhh says:

She’s also a cult victim. I think that’s worth remembering.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, and a victim of sexual abusive. I do have compassion for her, but it has limits. She’s an adult. And honestly, her pouting and eye batting at the camera while spouting off about her virginity and virtue just make me wonder how much she even buys into the whole thing. I don’t think she could possibly be as naive as we have been led to believe, because she seems to take a lot of cues from racy magazines on posing. I think she’s full of it. She just exploits her family’s so called religious beliefs for money and fame and attention. I can see how she was bound to be messed up, but she has a lot of very unpleasant personality traits that her married sister does not seem to have. She and the Cinderella sister are the ones I feel for the most. This one is a user, I think.

      • antipodean says:

It riles me no end that this special snowflake and her dimwit “husband”, has done such a very unique thing. She got married and got knocked up! What a spectacular achievement, nobody else in the history of the world has ever done a more noteworthy and unique thing! Let’s celebrate with myriad magazine covers, and a plethora of cameras to record this unbelievable occurrence. I wonder if she will be this chipper and cock a hoop when she is spitting out the twentieth one. I am sick to death of her poppy eyes, and her loathsome family. What a sad thing that she is held up as an example of modern womanhood.

      • qwerty says:

GNAT werent there rumours that she was caught having sex before her wedding? Like, right before? Or was that the other one…

  3. Senaber says:

Posing with your baby bump and your scuzzy magazine cover story in a wal-mart? Damn she just out-Duggared herself.

    • OSTONE says:

Hahahahahaha if only she was wearing camo…

    • Shambles says:

Oh there was a whole Facebook post that went along with that wonderful photo, and it’s just golden.

“Cracking up over this one! Ben and I were surprised to find out that ‪#‎BabySeewald‬ was already born last week! I must say, it was certainly a relief for me to find out that all that labor and delivery work is already behind me. Oh, and A+ on the cover picture. I never imagined I’d get my pre-baby body back so soon!
Haha! We both had a good laugh over this!
      ‪#‎UnreliableSources‬
      Lol!”

      Courtesy of Jessa’s Facebook.

She an Ben had such a great laugh about it that she had to post about it on Facebook, because they are just so #famous and so #aboveitall.
      #PayAttentionToJessa

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        Gag.

      • Lilacflowers says:

“Ben and I were surprised to find out that ‪#‎BabySeewald‬ was already born last week!”

She didn’t know that she had given birth? Was she in a week-long coma?

      • jwoolman says:

Well, I think I’d post a pic like that on Facebook, too, if my birth drama was published as a cover story a week before it was likely to happen… It was funny and appropriate. The mag was a wee bit too ahead of itself!

      • Wren says:

I would have posted about it too. It’s pretty ludicrous and amusing. She was probably a bit freaked out over giving birth (because what first time mom wouldn’t be) and was using some humor to diffuse her feelings. I’d laugh too if I saw that.

Can fault her for a lot, but not this.

    • MG says:

She really has turned in to quite the famewhore.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Such a greedy attention seeker. That picture of her holding her own magazine cover made me ill.

I’m glad the baby was a boy. At least he’ll be raised as a douchebag, not a servant. Poor child.

    • Shambles says:

See above for the caption of the aforementioned photo. It gets even better.

      #GetJessaSomeWater

    • Ughhhhhh says:

What a cruel thing to say about a victim of childhood sexual abuse.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

A victim of childhood sexual abuse can be a jerk, too. I’m sorry your love for the Duggars is being challenged. I find the parents, Josh and this woman to be hypocritical, self-righteous bigots. I feel extreme compassion for any child who has been abused in any way. But she is no longer a child. It’s not an excuse for the rest of your life to spout hatred and ignorance. If that’s cruel so be it. Where’s your compassion for THIS child? Who will be raised by this minion of the cult and her douchebag of husband? He is the innocent who will suffer.

      • BearcatLawyer says:

Sorry, but there is a statute of limitations on childhood traumas. You don’t get to use them as excuses forever.

  5. NewWester says:

You wants to wager that some fresh dirt about Josh will hit the fan soon? It has been awfully quiet lately

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m waiting for the dirt on JimBob. I feel it in my bones. Where did he learn his behavior? Why is he so obsessed with sex? That man is a sicko, and I hope one of the kids will come forward. Maybe the girl they skipped over for marriage and elected to stay home and take care of the kids? She has to be seething when she sees her sisters getting all the attention.

      • NewWester says:

I was thinking the same thing, Jim Bob must have a graveyard of skeletons rattling in his closet. When(not if) the dirt on Jim Bob becomes known I have a feeling it will be worse than what Josh has done.

      • Betti says:

Josh had to have learned his peado ways from someone – me thinks Daddy has been diddling with Jayna. Also i have a feeling that there are some skeletons around money and his time when he was in local politics. Also there is more from Josh – prob around his supposed rehab if he actually went.

Only a matter of time before In Touch flings more skeletons out of the closet – they are not done with the Duggars yet.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’m waiting for the dirt on Squirrel.

      • Annie says:

I’ve wondered if Jim Bob acting like a horny adolescent and pushing himself upon his wife like he does in front of his children has had a detrimental effect on Josh. For me, I need look no further than that to see where JB could have effed up Josh. Throw in the Quiverfull teachings and … shudder.

      • Wren says:

She may not actually want attention. Some people legitimately don’t. Never watched the show so I can’t say one way or the other, but she may be fine without the spotlight.

That said, I’m waiting for some more dirt too. I can’t believe Josh was an anomaly here. Where did he learn this behavior? Why the creepy attitudes towards sex? Because it IS creepy. There’s a lot of kids, at some point SOMEONE is going to come forward, maybe anonymously. I’d like to know a lot more about the ringleader of this circus.

      • kate says:

It’s not just JimBob, it’s everyone in their religion. So much of it is basically set up under the assumption that if a man or boy is left alone with a woman, even if that woman is his sister or his daughter, he’s going to get turned on and act on that. That’s a real special kind of warped, even for fundies, and it’s essentially normalising incest and rape as a natural urge. When molesting your sister is on par with watching TV, kids grow up thinking it’s normal. The ‘forbidden’ kind of normal, but still normal. And we all know even the most devout do plenty of ‘forbidden’ things throughout their lives. The creeps who started this ‘movement’ were sick, they attracted other sicko’s, and they created a system that creates more of that sickness.

I grew up in what would be considered a very conservative religion. Women shouldn’t tempt men with revealing clothing and all that bull. But none of that applied to family members. There was never any hint that girls might have to moderate their behavior so their brother or father or uncle or even third cousin wasn’t attracted to them, and anyone who claimed that was an issue would have been treated with great suspicion.

    • antipodean says:

Because for the one cockroach you do see there are fifty more nearby. There is always more with this tribe of breeders. I’m with Nero on this one, I will cheerfully fiddle when this bunch are shown to be what they truly are, rampant misogynists, and self righteous ignorami.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

      @NewWester – sucker’s bet! It’s only a matter of time.

      • Lille says:

I was having dinner with two psychiatrist friends, and they both thought that Josh’s issues were much more likely to be rooted in narcissism from being on television. Although it goes without saying Josh himself was probably sexually abused (most sexual abusers are, especially the really young) they didn’t feel like his religious background itself would make him an abuser.
Anyway, I thought that was interesting, and it was something I hadn’t even thought of. I think Jessa might have also been one of the more susceptible ones in the family, and the fame got to her, too. Jill seems a lot more down to earth, and less affected by it.
They operate in a very small.community of like.minded people, so that would only have compounded the fame/power they felt.
Also, I saw them speak one time (I specifically.attended an event in my area to see them out of curiosity) and I would say that Michelle is really the one in charge, and Jim Bob just goes a.long. I feel a bit bad for him when everyone thinks he is such a control freak… when it was pretty clearly the other way around. I think she might defer to him in final calls on decisions, but he is not driving the boat.

      • qwerty says:

Lille – the show started in 2007 or 8. They first appeared on tv in 2005. He molested those girls between 2002-3. So thats a BS theory.

    Baby Boy Walmart Duggar Seewald

  7. littlemissnaughty says:

I can’t even be mad at her for being this attention-starved about her pregnancy. After all, this is what she was raised to do, right? Babies are to her what education and career (in whatever shape) are to many of us. I was super proud of my degree and if nobody had cared, I would have been pi**ed as hell. I feel bad for all of these kids, they don’t even know that there’s a whole different world right in front of their doorstep that they will probably never get to experience.

    • Ughhhhhh says:

Yup. Not to mention having your worst memories exposed for everyone to judge during what she thought would be a joyous time. She has lived a very sad life and I’m not down with vilifying her.

  8. vauvert says:

Thirsty famehos be thirsty famehos. No one – except maybe their craziest fans on FB – paid any attention to her pregnancy or fussed over her on TV. Poor Jessa, how sad. I really hope and wish all these uneducated miserable bigots go away and stop procreating. And whatever other dirty secrets they are hiding, I hope they come to light. Until one of them goes to prison, the cult indoctrination will continue.

  9. H says:

My question: does the husband have a real job yet? Babies are expensive and the TLC money seems to be drying up quickly.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Real job? He doesn’t have a proper university degree yet. So back on the famewhore stroll they must go…

  10. Kelly says:

Did anyone see the Law & Order: SVU episode this week that was “loosely based” on the Josh Duggar scandal? I’d like to hear more if any of the Duggars watched it…

  11. JudyK says:

    And this is newsworthy, why?

    • Pandy says:

Just what I was thinking. I was enjoying a Duggar-free website for the last while!!! Too good to last …

    • claire says:

Seriously. Who cares. These people are creeps and it’s best to stop giving them attention.

  12. Tiffany says:

    Dear Kid,

God does not always place us with the smarter, kindest parents to truly look out for your well being. So my prayers are that you will have the strength to accept that at birth and drooling over yourself daily, that you are already smarter than your parents.

  13. Gabrielle says:

I have hope for Jessa. I think she’s been a “source” for a lot of stories about her brother. I think she’s already gone a little bit rogue and is likely to pull away from her family more and more. She may be married with a baby already but she is still very young. Of course now she spouts the views she’s been raised with when she was never allowed out of JimBob’s sight for 1 second and never allowed an education or exposure to anything that JimBob did not approve of. When you watch the show though, she is the only girl that has any spunk in her. Give her time to grow up, I think she’ll change.

    • Betti says:

Won’t happen – Daddy bankrolls her family. Her twit of a husband works for JimBob so there is no way they would dare rock that boat.

The only one who could strike out on her own is Jill – her husband is able to support them. He has a college education and had a job in the real world.

  14. Tiffany27 says:

The baby’s name is Jedediah Godisgoodallthetimesinnersrepentwhyisnoonepayingattentiontome Duggar.

  15. Ughhhhhh says:

I have sympathy for this woman and her sisters. They are victims of a cult who were repeatedly assaulted as children. I would say that having your childhood trauma exposed before the world while being forced to make excuses for your rapist qualifies as a difficult pregnancy.
I hope she and her sisters find a way out before they become more complicit in perpetuating the cycle of abuse.

    • stephanie says:

The wheels on the bus go round and round. Round and round…

    • gracie says:

Idk, she seemed fine when she was standing around with the rest of her dimwit family while they were making a game out of trying to hit that poor cat with a sled. Little Miss anti-choice didn’t seem to have much respect for life then. I really don’t understand your sympathy for this disgusting woman. She is in her 20’s and adult enough to stand up and acknowledge that her brother is a predator and the rest of that nasty family are a bunch of enablers. It’s scary that her perv brother is the father of daughters and nobody in that awful family is showing any concern for them or acknowledging the very real risk they are at. I can only pray their local CPS has plans to keep a close eye on Josh when he completes his bullshit “rehab” . Screw Jessa and her alleged difficult pregnancy. Her nieces are at major risk for having horribly difficult childhoods because of the scum who fathered them. They are the ones who deserve the sympathy, not that horse toothed hick Jessa Duggar.

  16. bleu_moon says:

Why would any one watch “Counting On?’ The original show had the “I can’t believe they have all those kids” factor. Two couples with a kid each? So?

  17. ojulia123 says:

Let the “blanket training” begin. Poor little guy.

  18. Lisa says:

Ugh, she is so smug looking!

  19. Amy M. says:

To be fair to her, she announced her pregnancy when she was about 2-3 months along. Jill pretty much conceived on her wedding night and announced when she was only 2 weeks along!! I was like girl wait until the first trimester is over! It just feels she’s been pregnant forever due to all the Duggar drama this past summer. But now she’s given birth… So it’ll be a race between Jill and Jesssa on who gets pregnant next since they’ve pretty much been in competition with each other since they got married.

  20. Lily says:

Did anyone else read about Ben’s younger sister Jessica stealing their thunder? She announced that she had a nephew on her fb and made a post on her instagram before People broke the story. I bet you Jessa is pissed, it seems like they’d been guarding that gender reveal for months for a big exclusive after the birth. As much as Im not a fan of what she stands for I feel bad that she didnt get to announce it the way she wanted to, every parent should get to break the news about a new baby themselves!

  21. Nicole says:

    Those are some fakea$$ smiles

  22. My two cents says:

This girl grew up in front of the cameras too and we all know what dysfunction that seems to create. They can’t make that kind of money doing anything else. I’m sure her and hubs plan on having a baby a year so they can carry on the legacy.

  23. jwoolman says:

I don’t understand why TLC is going to put them on tv again. Is there some contractual obligation that would be too costly to get out of? They’re just young parents with first babies. Are people really that interested?

  24. Castor & Pollux says:

I sincerely hope people are not interested. I tried to write to TLC to ask them to stop putting the Duggars on television and I could not figure out how to do it. I was at their website and the Discovery Communications site (their parent company) for quite a while to see if there was some sort of place you could comment or send them a letter and I didn’t see anything. Maybe the full browser version instead of the mobile site… Does anyone know how you could go about doing this? I’d also like to complain to People and ask them to stop featuring these a**holes on their cover!

  25. aenflex says:

Duggar girls were raised in an isolating, abusive, male-centric, fundamentalist bubble. Strike one. Then the TV people come in and tell them it’s cool to be that way. Strike two. They have never been taught to think for themselves, in fact it’s discouraged. And that’s strike 3.
Expecting rational behavior from the girls in this family is like pinning wings on a pig and expecting it to fly. That’s the reality.
Without first the desire, and then therapy, critical thinking and some true self-actualization, I don’t see hope for any of those girls. And it’s a bit sad.

  26. MizFabulous says:
