Here are some photos from last night’s Glamour Magazine Women of the Year event. Glamour honored several prominent women in culture and it seemed like a nice evening. Unfortunately, the fashion was kind of meh-to-bad. Let’s start with Lupita Nyong’o in this custom Jason Wu. Lupita was and is a style star. Even from the very beginning, when she first started showing up to red carpets, she was always notable and interesting and often wonderful. But this seems… wrong. Ill-suited for her beauty. Is the color off? Is the design too conservative for her? Is her hair throwing everything off? I do miss Lupita’s short hair. Still, does she seem like a bitchy ice princess to you?

Here’s Reese Witherspoon in Erdem. Erdem is increasingly popular with a certain segment of ladies who enjoy “fussy” dresses. That’s how I think of them. Like, there’s something too uptight, too lacy, too high-collared about Erdem these days. This dress is a good example of that fussy trend – there’s no real reason for the lace at the top. Instead of making Reese look ancient, it makes her look like she’s wearing her school-aged daughter’s frock.

Victoria Beckham wore her own VB design, of course, and her son Brooklyn was her date. She must love the fact that her sons are getting old enough to walk red carpets with her.

Sofia Bush in Zac Posen. The satin looks kind of cheap, right? I would have been more into this if it was designed as a two piece, like a mermaid skirt and a cropped satin top with cap sleeves. I think the whole idea of cutting off the fabric at the breast is weird, and it leads to weird satin bulges in the mid-section.

Karlie Kloss in Thierry Mugler. Meh. It’s not a “boring navy dress,” but it’s not all that noteworthy either.

Selena Gomez in patent-leather Valentino. I… don’t have words. The design is “schoolgirl” but the patent leather is “dominatrix.”
