Christian Bale: ‘Let’s have bloody Idris Elba as the next James Bond!’

Embrace the fact that Idris Elba wears baggy leather pants for international travel. Only Idris!! I will only accept this behavior from Idris Elba. Kanye West tries to make leather jogging pants into a thing, but it takes Idris Elba to pull them off. These are photos of Big Driis flying into LAX a few days ago from London. When he arrived at LAX, he was accosted by paparazzi, and if you want a moment of Zen today, I would suggest you watch TMZ’s video of some annoying pap throw questions at Idris as he’s waiting for a car. Idris has no f—ks to give, but he patiently gives one word answers to the paparazzo.

One of the questions that stupid pap threw at Big Driis was whether he (Driis) should play James Bond. Idris shook his head and said no. He’s been saying no for a while. He’s been trying to shut down the speculation, because he correctly assumes that all of the outside pressure to hire him for 007 will end up blowing up his chance for the role.

For what it’s worth, I went to see Spectre this weekend and it was SO BAD. Like, Quantum of Solace bad. Like, it was just stupid-bad. I’m a big fan of the Bond franchise and I really like Daniel Craig as Bond, but the franchise needs better writers. The dialogue was so bad, people in the theater were literally going “OMG, shut up!” whenever the characters spoke. The plot made no sense if you are not a Bond fanatic. Anyway, what’s my point? Well, I think Daniel really is done. After watching the end of the film… I think Spectre is his last James Bond film and they’re going to find someone new now. So… should Idris still be The Guy? I think Idris should be The Guy if they get new writers.

Oh, and when Christian Bale was asked about whether he’s ever been asked to play James Bond or whether he’s interested in the role, he told The Daily Beast: “You know what? Let’s have bloody Idris Elba as the next James Bond!” WORD.

I concur. The only way you’re gonna get me to watch a bond film, of my own accord.

That man has charisma for dayssss.

    • bettyrose says:

IKR? Let the market decide. Very little gets me to the theater. Certainly not yet another Bond movie (which no longer even have fun futuristic gadgets now that reality has better toys than Bond’s world).

This I’d go see. I’d vote my approval with my ticket purchase. Cast Idris and let the global ticket sales speak for themselves.

    • V4Real says:

I’m not a fan of Craig’s Bond. I love Connery and Brosman version of the character.

And while I think Idris would make a great Bond how about a fantastic villain who just happens to be Black.

      • Naya says:

Yaphet Kotto (from Homicide) already played a black Bond villain in the 70s. It sucked. You know how 70s Bond villains were sophisticates trying to conquer the world? Yaphet was a drug lord who engaged in voodoo. Sorry but I dont trust the Bond franchise with a black villain, god knows what bs stereotypes they’ll heap onto the character.

      • V4Real says:

But that’s like saying we shouldn’t have another Black villain because….. Statements like that just keep perpetuating the stereotypes.

It’s like saying we shouldn’t have another lead Black female superhero because Halle Berry was horrible (and she was) as Cat Woman.

    • McLori says:

IF they smarten up enough to ask them, Driis should tell them to kick rocks. Bond is Dead, Long live Big Driis.

  2. lucy2 says:

I think he could breathe new life into the franchise, which it sounds like they desperately need.

Also, I saw an 70-80 year old woman in leather pants the other day. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

    • denisemich says:

Hmmm. But Idris is Luther. I think Bond while iconic, is not as good as the Luther franchise.

  3. Lara K says:

There are very few men who look good no matter what they are doing or wearing.
    This is one of them.

He is the epitome of Bond to me. Would be great in the role.

    • Lauren II says:

Idris looks good in any type of clothing. He is incredibly handsome /charasmatic.
Not to mention, he Is modest and kind.
Idris also embodies raw sexuality and intelligence. A lethal combination.

  4. MrsBPitt says:

I hate the Bond franchise….so, I’m torn…I love Idris Elba, and think he would make a sexy, cool, Bond…but I love Idris Elba, and I think he is too good to play Bond!!!

    • Crocuta says:

I have the same problem. I love Idris and wouldn’t mind him as Bond, but even he could not make me to watch those films (which means my opinion is irrelevant).

    • Luca76 says:

I’m ambivalent on bond andI agree with you that Idris is way too cool for Bond at this point and the racist backlash he’s already had to deal with is just cray cray.

  5. Naya says:

So Christian Bale and Colin Farrell are Team Elba. I approve.

  6. Mia4s says:

Bale is far too strong an actor to waste time on Bond…and to be honest Elba might be too (and Craig will do well if he moves on).

That said I would LOVE to see Bale as a Bond villain! How great would that be??

  7. mkyarwood says:

When manly men of manliness start casting their positive votes, it’s time to give us what we want.

  8. Nancy says:

He has the coolness and sexy factors on his side. Maybe this isn’t the issue. TPTB didn’t want Al Pacino as the Godfather. He wasn’t well known at the time, too short, but now…who can imagine anyone else as Michael Corleone. Sometimes it’s just luck and fate. If he is meant to be 007 he will be, I personally think he will be chosen.

  9. Joni says:

I was gonna say he’s too old but he’s only 43??!! He looks a decade older! Wow.

  10. Anna says:

I hate the James Bond movies (boooooring popcorn cinema) but would watch them for Idris alone. Seriously. If they had half a brain, they would hire him simply for the HORDES of women who will come and watch the movies.

  11. Darkladi says:

My love for Christian Bale just grew

  12. Breakfast Margaritas says:

Bloody Idris Elba??? Seems rude and disingenuous….was he just trying to beat the reporter to the punch? I think so many people have chimed in with ridiculous opinions Idris shouldn’t even be bothered with the nonsense.

    • Mia4s says:

LOL, what? You can’t be serious? Or do you just not understand how some Brits talk? You’re really reaching.

    • Betti says:

As i Brit i can say that Bale wasn’t being rude when he said ‘bloody..’ – in the context it was meant as ‘ffs just give the guy the role already as we all know he’d be great and it would be amazing to have a black Bond’. We use the term in a lot of context but the general rule of thumb is in an exasperated way. Its also used in place of its ruder cousin – the F word.

      • Mia4s says:

Thank you @Betti, that’s exactly what I meant. Sometimes people thinking they understand colloquialisms is worse than people not understanding at all.

As a non-Brit I also use “bloody” far too much. You can get away with it far more often than “FFS”. 😉

      • V4Real says:

I am far from a Brit or Australian but I use the word Bloody as well as wanker a lot.

And yes Bloody is just like an American saying “Oh just f-cking give the role to Idris already.

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

Thanks for the explanation. Still I think Idris Should refuse the role as a matter of pride if it’s offered to him. He has had more than one iconic role already and will likely continue being famous and successful without Bond. Idris doesn’t need Bond and I’d rather not hear people complaining about him not being quite the right type of brit for the role.

        I love Idris.

      • Lozface says:

Haha agree 100%! As an Australian we use it all the time – I use it often instead of very! It was bloody hot means it was very hot! 🙂

My take is he was using it to emphasise the point. Nothing rude at all! And I bloody agree with him too.

  13. K says:

Omg he is so hot, I mean I just can’t with him. He is literally everything!

And yeah only way I would ever punish myself by sitting through some ridiculous bond film is if he was the star otherwise no thanks I don’t hate myself.

  14. morc says:

Madonna bright him on stage recently and gave him a banana in her endless tone deafness.

  15. als says:

Wow, he really handled those paps. I like him.

  16. LMB says:

If DG does another Bond, IE will be too old to become Bond. An actor who will be late thirties or very early forties by that time would be better.

  17. hadlyB says:

People need to give up on him being the next Bond. At this point he’s too old. The new one JUST came out and by the time they start the next one and all future ones he will be way too old.

And while I love him as an actor.. he’s too “rough”? ( maybe not the right word but ). Not smooth enough to be Bond. I know everyone here disagrees but thats the way I feel about it.

    • pepper says:

      I agree with you.

Daniel revitalized the franchise. I think he will come back for one more Bond.

      • V4Real says:

Along with Moore, Craig is the worst Bond. Put a fork in him, he’s done.

      • pepper says:

        @V4Real
        In your opinion of course.

Millions dont feel that way thank god; else how else can we explain the successes his movies have had? 😀

Nope he is not done. He will do one more.

      • Malak says:

I understand Daniel Craig will make another one, and I think Tom Hardy should follow him.

    • LMB says:

I absolutely agree on that one. Hardy for Bond!

  18. phlyfiremama says:

Spectre was HORRIBLE. The editing was so bad, it made me cringe several times. WTF happened? Daniel Craig has NEVER done anything for me as an appealing, sexy man I would want to get down and dirty with even though he is usually a very good actor. The man who plays Bond should be panty melting~suave~debonair~smooth~have a voice that melts butter~and make me fan my biscuit when I see him. (*cough, cough Idris)

  19. Incognito says:

I like Daniel Craig’s Bond. I really do. I saw Spectre last weekend and it was just meh. The plot needed better development and I felt like a lot of it didn’t make sense. I was also able to “see’ Daniel’s age in this movie a bit. He wants out, the studio needs to let him out. I loved Skyfall, but this one wasn’t even half as good. And they ended it in a way that should release Daniel Craig from the series.

Idris would be a great Bond.

    • Chibichchai says:

      +1

It felt like they threw all the elements of what makes a bond movie together from a checklist and hoped it made sense. Explosions? Check. Helicopter scene? Check. Make that two scenes. Plot twist? Check. Inside man? Check. Random fight scene out of nowhere? Check.

It was poorly written but I was entertained
      By the actors overall.

  20. frivolity says:

    Stringer Bell! 🙂

  21. FingerBinger says:

Enough. I don’t want Idris Elba as Bond. I’d rather have a Luther film.

  22. Anna says:

Idris would make a great Bond right now. But even if the series were to be rebooted right away, which is not happening, he would be well over 45 by the time the first film came out. I think that’s just too old. He may still be very sexy, but I like it when Bond actually looks like he can pull off some of the physical stuff he is supposed to be doing — which is why I never really enjoyed Roger Moore as Bond.
I do feel bad though for whomever is actually chosen as the next Bond. He will at most be second-best.

  23. Manjit says:

I loved Spectre! I enjoyed the links back to previous Bond films, I loved the interaction between the MI6 characters and I loved the use of lesser known areas of London as locations. I enjoyed it so much I’m seeing it again at the weekend with some friends. Maybe it only appeals to middle-aged, menopausal, London based biddies like myself : )

    • BrandyAlexander says:

I really enjoyed it too! I don’t understand why people are being so hard on it, it’s pretty much the epitome of a James Bond movie to me. And the dialogue that people are complaining about, I thought was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, and was pretty clever when you look at it like that. I loved Skyfall too, and pretty much concluded I just really like the direction Sam Mendes takes it in. To each their own, I guess.

    • L says:

I loved Spectre and am in my 20’s 🙂 Daniel Craig is so attractive to me and I love his portrayal of the character. I hope he returns for another movie! Not sure how I feel about Idris Elba as Bond, I think I’d prefer someone else, like Tom Hardy.

      • pepper says:

I agree. His portrayal of Bond in Spectre was perfect. Cool and sophisticated. I loved the first half. The second half dragged a bit. Didnt care for Lea and Waltz was weak.

Dont care for anyone else as Bond.

  24. Sarah01 says:

45 too old Pshawww!! Idris for bond. I can’t watch Daniel Craig as he looks like an oyster no charm and no swagger.

  25. lila fowler says:

Shut up, Christian Bale. We see you over there, trying to get back on the public’s good side after shamefully doing brownface for cash last year.

  26. kimbers says:

Why cant he have his own effing franchise. F*ck James bond bs.

That’s as stupid as all wonen remakes!!

    Making an original movie!!!!!!!!!

    Ok done.

  27. Green smoothie says:

I read the synopsis on wiki and I couldn’t handle the idea of seeing it when every critic was saying it’s almost as good as Skyfall (which I thought was utterly stupid because he basically killed Judi Dench’s character by dragging her off there). They need a reboot with someone like Idris or go nerdy with a smart, techie Bond. These movies haven’t been itneresting since the ’80s and they’re full of product placements.

  28. alex says:

Finally someone opinionated in here! Thanks, Christian Bale. You got my respect.

  29. Kath says:

I keep forgetting that Christian Bale is English!

  30. Cynthia says:

My question is what happened to the writers of Casino Royale, that was the only reason I watched the last two bond movies, hoping for the magic they created with Casino Royale, they had a real dialogue in there.

I swear why do they pay these executives all the big money and yet they don’t know what the market wants. If I were Idris, I would ask for new writers before I take that role.

But here is the taboo, if Idris is chosen, his love interest would have to be a white woman, because if a black woman is chosen then that would make it a black movie. And is the fan base ready for an interracial Bond movie. ( Please don’t say Halle Berry)

At this point they might as well choose Idris, cause I can guarantee you that it will break box office record.

    • Green smoothie says:

Absolutely. I don’t see why they’re not ready. What’s that Will Smith and Margot Robbie film? No one cares and no one would bat an eyelid with a white/asian/whatever bond girl and a black Bond. They need a black Bond or just to do something different and new and interesting with the franchise. Yawn, yawn, yawn.

    • EM says:

What magic? Casino Royale [and Quantum of Solace] was rubbish.
