Sienna Miller still explaining how she’s too young to play Maid Marian

Back in January, Sienna Miller left the Ridley Scott production of Nottingham, a retelling of the Robin Hood story with Russell Crowe as the lead. When Sienna left, a “source” (a.k.a. Sienna’s publicist) spun the story to Page Six as this: “It is a mess. Russell never lost the weight he put on for Body of Evidence – and so the love scenes between him and Sienna would have been laughable. He’s so old and fat and she’s so young and gorgeous. It’s just . . . gross… Producers are now looking for an older, plumper actress to play the role so [Crowe] doesn’t look like a paunchy grandpa. Someone in her late 30s or early 40s.”

After that, everything just turned into a mess. Accusations went back and forth between the camps of Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott, Sienna Miller, and the producers of Nottingham. The general consensus (in my mind) was that Sienna Miller had to find some way to explain why she had been pushed out of the Maid Marian role. The role ended up going to Cate Blanchett, so that was a plus.

Sienna is still defending herself. She’s given a new interview where she tries to explain what really happened. She actually does it without calling Russell “old and fat”, so that’s nice. But she does allude to her youth, saying “The script has been evolving and changing and it often happens in films… they needed someone who was older. There’s a husband who has been away at war for 10 years and he comes back, so it’s just not feasible for me to play her. Cate Blanchett is doing it.” Because God knows, Sienna couldn’t just put on some make-up and act like she was 10 years older. Of course not.

Sienna Miller claims she was dropped from her role as Maid Marian in new movie The Sheriff of Nottingham because she’s too young.

Miller, 27, had been attached to the new Ridley Scott movie for over a year.

But the Factory Girl star is adamant nothing could be done to make her appear older after bosses opted for Australian Cate Blanchett, 39, to play the part instead.

She explains, “The script has been evolving and changing and it often happens in films. They’ve been trying to make this for a couple of years and they rewrote the script and they needed someone who was older.

“There’s a husband who has been away at war for 10 years and he comes back, so it’s just not feasible for me to play her. Cate Blanchett is doing it.”

“The media doesn’t have to make quite as much a meal of it as they do when it happens to me. I’m sure it will be a wonderful project but this is not an absolutely shocking thing to happen in the movie industry when scripts evolve and casts change.”

“Other people have changed in that cast, but the media just won’t document it. I would obviously love to work with Ridley and still I hope to in the future.”

[From Showbiz Spy]

A more diplomatic route, I’ll admit. But I doubt if she’ll ever get the chance to work with Russell Crowe or Ridley Scott again. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – how did Sienna get cast in Nottingham in the first place? Cate Blanchett should have been the first choice, not Sienna’s last-minute replacement.

Here’s Sienna apparently stumbling around the airport in New York City after arriving from LAX on Monday. Images thanks to WENN .

Wasn’t the movie he played in called Body of Lies?

Sienna just needs to stop commenting on it and move on.

If you want to be viewed as a more mature actress, just move on and focus on your future career. I actually never had a problem with her, and hope she gets better rolls.

  2. Orangejulius says:

She’s apparently ‘too young’ to have learned not to burn bridges.

I hate to break it to Sienna, but I wouldn’t have batted an eye had I seen her in the role opposite Russell Crowe. How old is she anyway? Just looking at her, I’d put her at early 30’s. And she thinks she looks so young that it wasn’t feasible for her to play Maid Marian. Please.

    “He’s so old and fat and she’s so young and gorgeous. It’s just . . . gross…”

Right. Like we’re not used to seeing old and fat Hollywood/rock stars dating or married to young, gorgeous starlets.

And anyway, in Robin Hood’s day, girls were 16 and under when they got married, so a 27-year-old waiting 10 years for her husband to come home isn’t that far from the mark.

  5. KateNonymous says:

Cate Blanchett may be older, but she sure isn’t plumper. However, I’d far rather watch her in this or any role.

Except for the part where I’m really bored by the idea of Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe collaborations, that is.

BTW, what’s the name of this movie? IMDB has it as “Robin Hood.”

  6. nony says:

Cate Blanchett is a complete goddess.
I finally saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button the other day- and wowza, what a classic great-beauty (IMHO), and her acting abilities seem much more appropriate for this type of film (you know, the ones that exist outside of her cajoling men into thinking she has independent thoughts).

  7. Samantha says:

I think her problem with the role is that she stays faithful to him/and he to her, for ten long years – a concept she probably can’t grasp, given her track record.

  8. A says:

Ridley, Russel, and others realized that the damage of this ‘fu*king animal’ is enormous, and ergo, irreversible.

“…and still I hope to in the future.”

what future?? there is no future for people in Denial. you’ll be hoping ad infinitum.

is this a direct quote? you’ve got to be kidding me right? wow, i’m speechless. if that’s verbatim, then ms miller should not expect to get any roles in the near future…

Hmmm.. husband away at war for ten years. So it’s… just unfathomable for her to have been married as a teenager?
    In, like, the 1400s?
    Ri-i-iiight.

  11. becca says:

rbsesq: She’s in her late 20s (don’t ask me how I know that). But honestly, she could have pulled it off. All of that partying and sleeping around with married men makes her look like she’s pushing 40.

  12. Dingles says:

She may only be in her late twenties but she could pass for a woman in her thirties…easily. It sounds like someone’s in a little denial.

  13. Trashaddict says:

It’s time for this tiresome little git to fade into obscurity.

  14. barneslr says:

She may be 27, but she has a LOT of miles on her. She could very easily play someone much older than her actual years.

  15. Lady T says:

Did they just age Brad Pitt like 30 years? They couldn’t have added a few years to Sienna if they really wanted to keep her? Puhleez they better dealed her for someone without a terrible rep who could act.

  16. Tudor says:

Let’s see, in the past year, she has insulted the director or GI Joe, Ridley Scott, Russel Crowe, Cate Blanchette, women in general, every ex she’s ever had. Well, just keep talkin, darlin. You are just guaranteeing that we will not be bothered with your presence much longer.

  17. fern says:

There was no reason to document the change in other cast members because the other cast members DIDN’T MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF BEING LET GO. How many of the other cast members who were let go said that they backed out of the film because they were “too thin and pretty” to play alongside the “fat and old” leading man? And here we go again, she can’t walk away with some grace and humility, she has to always be the victim.

  18. fern says:

SM can only do roles that are a variation of herself. What’s the most common denominators of these roles? Sex, drugs, alcohol, competes against another woman, partying, smoking, club hopping, removing her clothes, etc… This role was going to require much more than this.

She is too young to play MM? Has she looked in the mirror because as a 27 yo she can easily pass for her late 30s. The real reason she can’t pull off this role is because she has the mentality of a 12 yo. As evidenced by these nasty comments about RC being old and fat and implying that CB fits into the part because she already looks old.

If HW can make BP look like an old man, then they most certainly could make SM look “old”. That’s what make-up artists and the technology people get paid to do, or are we supposed to believe that this movie was so “low budget” that they couldn’t afford these luxaries?

Sienna Miller…acts? Funny, I’ve never seen any movie with her. Ah, now I remember…she had 5 minutes in Layer Cake and 10 minutes in Stardust? Wow, impressive.
I just wonder why Ridley ever considered this tramp for the part anyway. Did she sleep with him too? Because, from what I remember, this girl is only famous for the people she slept with…
