Jennifer Lawrence, America’s Klutz, dislocated her toe with her other foot

There are actually Jennifer Lawrence Klutz-Truthers out there. As in, people believe that she’s not legitimately a klutz. That she’s secretly capable of walking like a normal person in heels, and that she just “falls down” a lot to be America’s Dorito-Laced, Fart-Soaked Sweetheart. I don’t think this is the case, but I will give the Klutz Truthers one thing: I don’t really think she cares that she’s constantly going ass over tea kettle. Like, she’s not going to change the way she walks or how she approaches most things (work, sleep, drinking, winning awards) like an overeager puppy that gets tangled up in his own legs. So, maybe she knows that people expect her to fall down and she’s just not worried about it. Whatever the case may be, J-Law has a message for her Truthers: she’s really falling. She’s really that much of a klutz.

She says she gets “mad” when she falls, but I don’t know… I think it’s just part of who she is. She’s like the gawky teenager who grew six inches overnight, and is unfamiliar with their new body. Except J-Law is just an utter klutz. Also: what’s better, the “OMG, Elizabeth Taylor!” story or the “I flashed my thong to Francis Ford Coppola” story?

Liam Hemsworth was on Seth Meyers’ show and Seth asked Liam about J-Law’s walking problem too. Liam is really funny here and he says Jen is “just terrible at walking.” He then lists all the ways J-Law busted her ass during just this promotional tour.

And finally, J-Law told Conan O’Brien that she dislocated her toe because she was too excited to fall asleep. Seriously.

Some of us just are truly klutzy. I’ve almost always got random bruises from walking into things and I’ve been known to trip myself up as well.

    • lama says:

I’m the same way, so I believe her. I’ve hurt myself in the most klutzy ways. I once gave myself a concussion by flopping onto my futon (I hit the wood arm). And I broke my toe taking a step while my foot was still asleep.

      • lucy2 says:

        Ouch to the futon story!
I flopped onto my bed in college and somehow sprained my thumb. I’ve also fallen down the front steps of my office, wiped out at my local convenience store, and if there is one little hole or rut in a field, I will immediately step in it and twist my ankle.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

I think I’m a normal amount of klutzy but I also don’t wear a ton of super long/tight/awkward dress + heels with cameras filming my every move. I think in those situations I might be way worse off. The Liz Taylor thing was hilarious!!! Like hysterical. Then she ran away afterward?! LOL

    • Skyblue says:

Me too. I fell over backwards in one of the TSA lines at LAX and knocked down part of the “fence”. I couldn’t get up right away because of my backpack. A nice guy brought me my passport and ticket which apparently I tossed quite a distance when I was going down. “Don’t worry” he said “it wasn’t that bad” then he laughed and said “No, actually it was bad!” I keep thinking someone caught on film and I will wind up on a
      YouTube video. I’m horribly clumsy.

    • Ange says:

Indeed. I’m great at softball and can take catches that scare my younger team members but off the diamond I’m always hurting myself somehow. At one time I had crutches and a wrist splint thanks to two separate pratfalls.

  2. tealily says:

As a similarly afflicted individual, I believe that she is a true klutz.

  3. Tiny Martian says:

Oh, I don’t think she’s doing it on purpose, why on earth would she? There are lots of much better ways to get attention, who wants to be known as a klutz?

But I will say that, although I’m normally very coordinated, I’m incredibly clumsy when I’m tired. I’ve always suspected that a lot of Jen’s clumsiness comes from fatigue, especially as many of her falls seem to happen at premieres and award shows where we all know she is in the midst of a completely exhausting schedule. Plus, she seems to have a lot of nervous energy, and people like that can have a hard time winding down and sleeping when they finally have the chance. At least, I know that’s true for me!

    • Linn says:

Fatigue and wearing uncomfortable and impractical clothes. If I would have to wear gowns and high heels all the time I would probably fall down a lot, too.

  4. Lama Bean says:

I don’t understand the mechanics behind this. How does that happen?

  5. Mark says:

So real, so quirky, so perfect.

  6. Green Is Good says:

I truly admire and respect her as an actress. The Hunger Games will cement that admiration forever. Those were big literary shoes to fill , in my lame- ass opinion. And she’s wonderful in interviews. So there you go….. Happy Friday!

  7. Tala D says:

Jennifer and Liam look adorable together – I would love to see them together down the line.

    • Lilacflowers says:

They always seem to have better off screen charisma with one another and have a good rapport. They’ve also helped one another through rough breakups. I think they would be good together.

  8. CornyBlue says:

In the last picture with Liam, they look like they are sending their kid off to college. I love her interviews so damn much. I am personally not fond of the Hunger Games movies save CAtching Fire but damn isnt the press tours amazing and she can tell a good story.

    • Tiny Martian says:

Love the sending their kid off to college comment, it does look like a sweet moment. And when I one day send my kid off to college, I’m going to wear exactly what Jen is wearing here, lol!

  9. Angie says:

I love her makeup here, she is so beautiful!

  10. Cindy Carp says:

I doubt she’s pretending to fall, but I actually came here just to remark on how tiny Josh/Peta is! In that last picture he looks like a child standing in the frame with Liam and Jennifer. He really is petite. 🙂

  11. boredblond says:

She and Fallon would make a great pair, with all their–cough cough– mishaps..

  12. Lucy says:

I mean…you could tell she was mortified after falling at the Oscars, even if she laughed it off. I don’t know, the more some people try to bring her down over the dumbest things, the more I will continue to root for her. Also, that picture with Liam is adorable. This is not often the case, but I truly believe she has built a strong bond with both him and Josh.

  13. Brittney B. says:

I’m exactly the same way. I understand the urge to side-eye her mishaps, as though they’re preventable or intentional… but I was a dancer and figure skater, and I still injure myself almost daily. Slamming my hip into a doorknob, slicing open my heel with the toenail of the other foot, banging my head into doorframes… etc. As a kid, my legs were always covered in bruises. They still are. I spill almost every drink, too.

I even have a very similar story: on my way out the door to attend my first homecoming dance in high school, I walked into a coffee table and one of the table legs split my big toe away from the rest of my foot, right down the middle. Huge tear, blood everywhere, couldn’t put on the high heels (or walk, really)… and I wasn’t even running. Just casually walking. I DON’T KNOW WHY.

I also broke my foot so badly I needed surgery and couldn’t walk for months… and I didn’t even *fall*, just took a step the wrong way as I was headed downstairs. It rolled and snapped a bone in half.

Okay, apparently I could go on forever like this… but I won’t.

It’s just so easy to say “be more careful”… but these things happen when I’m distracted and not thinking about the possibility of injury. When I’m having fun, enjoying a drink… or carrying a load of laundry through the house… or running to catch up with someone. Every day I feel like an idiot for not preventing it… but there’s some kind of mental or physical disconnect, I guess. I also have trouble identifying feelings of hunger, and sometimes I think I’m going to vomit but a sneeze comes out. My brain doesn’t have full control over my body; it’s a lifelong thing. I totally get it, Jennifer.

    • RisiaSkye says:

I cannot tell you what a relief it is to hear that someone else has the identification problem. I mean, there are plenty of clumsy people, but I have never heard anyone else talk about the related issues. I also have a hard time identifying hunger, telling the difference between stomach pain and menstrual cramps, or knowing when I’m going to sneeze. I was a dancer and a cheerleader, and ran a marathon. So, I *can* coordinate, but I have to be paying attention. And nothing helps the identifying body feelings problem.

  14. im over it…. and that’s all i got

  15. Blairski says:

This is one of my favorite Celebitchy posts ever! As a fellow klutz, it’s great to have someone who is otherwise beautiful and accomplished, owning her klutziness! Love these clips.

  16. Lou says:

Why would you send that video to put on a chat show…………

  17. reader says:

Why the toe incident was videoed? And then shown on the talk show? I wonder if it was staged?
